I was so surprised at 5:03 to hear you pronounce Holmsjö SO WELL. The SJ sound doesn't even exist in English. Love your effort to pronounce everything correctly 👏👏
I agree with you about the trend to put form over function. As a person who suffers from back pain, I find that most modern sofas are unusable because the backs are so low that they offer no support at all.
Worst thing are the things that are bought for function and they still don`t hold up over time. I am SO scared to buy a new desk chair because my budget isn`t huge but my back and butt need propper support!
@@Hopischwopi Honestly, just buy office chair. Ofc these cost a bit, but basic chair that businesses use are usually pretty good since they need to fulfill ergonomic requirements. These are usually also pretty durable since it makes sense to buy good chairs so they don't have to replace them often. If you are fine with used ones, you might even get them for very little somewhere as businesses move or go bankrupt.
Ooh, the Persbol chair reminds me of an Ercol set my parents had. I loved it as a kid (though it wasn’t great for snuggling up in). We would take off the back cushion and sit behind the chair watching Dr Who from behind the safety of the “bars”.
Wanted to chime in on this as well! Hearing your pronunciation of “Holmsjö” I was baffled and had to rewind because it honestly sounded really convincing and natural to my Swedish ears! Bravo!! Seems like all of those IKEA trips and hours browsing the catalogue are starting to pay off 😅
Are you guys even Swedish? There is work to do with how to pronounce the Swedish words still. I would recommend putting them in to Google Translate on Swedish and click that speak icon to get the pronunciation. While some where okay, “Nytillverkad” and a few others were very very wrong 😂
I loooove my green Jattebo sofa! Also, such a relief to hear someone actually making effort to check how the names are pronounced. Some major interior design "content creators" can only aspire to your professional quality of videos.
When I saw the glass drawer of the Ridspö desk, I immediately thought that a light source hidden in the drawer would be a great way to copy drawings. I really like it :)
Great idea! Not specific to this table but I also quite like the idea of having a deliberate 'hole' or cut-out on a table - one such idea I came across was a square hole cut-out within a cement coffee table which would be later re-purpose for placement of table lamp, or plant, or even a natural ice bucket for entertainment purposes.
The RIDSPO desk, i think it has a glass hole is for drawing. They had something similar and it was cool to use. You put light on the drawer and can use for sketching. You can personalize the hole too with sketches or some textile.
In the IKEA I visited today the drawer under the glass was set up with crafting supplies, very decorative. How long would they stay like that - well… ;-)
I have had Ivar shelves for over 30 years (including cabinets, and I am gutted they have changed the cabinet type, instead of just adding a new cabinet type). Still 100% happy. Of course, unlike with Billy, you have to organise the books so they do not fall, but they can be dismantled and re-mounted...Moved 6 times since buying them.
Like it too. Pine ages nice gets almost red-brown over time. And you can customize Ivar a lot - and use chalk paints or stains to leave a trace of the wood below. Not all is perfect - the doors and drawers are a bit flimsy. But I like that it's real wood and pretty easy to dissamble, but still can take pretty heavy loads.
The ‘Friheten’ corner sofabed is fabulous for gamer/tv families. Just pull out the extra bit, and the whole family can cosy up with their feet up. Mine has gotten a new life at another family after 10 years or so of use, and I bought a new one with a custom cover at my new house. It’s great!
One Ikea furniture item I've absolutely loved is the Idasen table top electric height adjust standing desk. I had been researching various manufacturers for a while as I really wanted an adjustable "desk" for my laptops and various hobbies. It was frustrating because the local stores that sell office furniture had some in their catalogs, but not in their showrooms. I live in the US, but happened to visit downtown Toronto, which had a small Ikea. To my delight, that showroom had several electric adjustable desks. When I got home, I ordered the one I picked out, and it did not disappoint. It's lightweight enough for me to push around and clean under, but has a sturdy feel with smooth operation
I’m moving into my second apartment with high ceilings (3.3 meters) and I will equip my new bedroom with a PLATSA wardrobe again. It’s stackable, it has everything you need and its drawers are roomier than those of PAX. Sure, it doesn’t have those “nice-to-have” glamorous add-ons, but it has a very clean and modern look and does the job perfectly.
Dear Daniel, thank you so much for this video! I'm renovating my home, which is also my office: I'm a school books writer, and I work from home. I'm looking for inspiration for an office area that is both visually pleasing and integrated with the rest of the house. Your advice is so smart and tasteful! Truly valuable! Thanks from Italy!
Shopping at IKEA as at even high end stores we really need to look into the details of the item. When we can't find a cover for the chair we can go online such as Comfort Works. I also ordered covers from the UK. I have some IKEA furniture that has lasted 15 years. When we understand how it is created we can figure out how to give them longer life. I also have some of their lamps and artwork that have sold for more than I paid. I also appreciate being able to switch out legs to change the style. I've had a Tylosand sleeper for many years and have adjusted the design to fit into three different households. Still super comfy and a great sleeper.
As someone with architects in the family, it’s so nice to see a professional giving advice that actually considers *function* 😉 as well as form/design. (And budget, but that’s usually easier to deal with). Thanks from a new subscriber😄👍🙏
Malm dressers are the only ones I like as dressers from any brand. Perfect as his and hers and the size and depth of drawers are perfect for our family
Hell's teeth Daniel! Thank goodness you posted this video because I had my eye on several of the products you mentioned as being not such a good buy! ❤
I must disagree with the generic "sofabeds are bad" comment. When I lived in a tiny apartment I had a sofabed from IKEA and it was one of the most comfortable sofas ever. As a bed it was meh, but it worked for me when I had guests. (If the guests were elderly I used the sofa and they got the bed)
One of the most comfortable Ikea armchairs I've had the pleasure of sitting in is the OSKARSHAMN Wing Chair. It's quite modern looking but it's so comfortable! It's expensive for Ikea but given the comfort factor and modern look it's worth it.
I love love love the Persbol chair. It's definitely on my wish list. I do also think IKEA has a lot of nice vases now. Several that are simple and classic, but have enough personality to elevate a room.
Soderham is The most uncomfortable sofa. Big regret of mine. However I have repurposed the ottoman by ordering custom linen covers and wooden legs to replace the existing grey fabric and metal legs and it looks lovely in my living room. A large square wooden tray on top and coffee table transformation done!
I think these comparisons fail to realize that anyone who would consider buying a bed for 650 dollars is going to compare it with other beds for 650 in different stores, not with beds for 100 at IKEA.
What I will say as a consumer is to do your product research. You can get a dining chair from ikea that u have to assemble and will likely wigle for $150 or a corner blocked heirloom chair from a brand like arhaus (during their store wide sale in Jan or sep) research research research !!
NYTILLVÄRKAD footstool is a great thing, it go great in a kids room or in the garage, for ot can be used as a side table too, and turn it upside down to use it store pillows or outdoors to store your garden hose. I have 3 of those (1 was stolen) that are the originals that my mother had, and it was my dad that had one in the garage that was used to stand on, to have tools on, to sit on and be used (upside down) hold up tires. It was more a tool than a stool :D
Thanks for the review. I have 2 of the Nymane lights. I would only recommend the one you showed. My husband (who used to fix helicopters, so it's not his lack of ability) cursed the design and product quality of the Nymane with the extension arm.
In the last 20 years, I have done 3 gut reno's on coop apartments (please don't ask why). I have installed Ikea kitchens in all three. I have found that they are durable in function and design. Also, they have added to resale desire and value. Neither of the two I sold during poor seller's market, have been on reality listing for more than one month. The most recent sale went down at the first open house. I have always gotten the top price in the price point range for these apartments. It may be that I was just lucky but I feel that this is, in a large part, due to the Ikea kitchens. Assembly can be a bit of a pain in the a$$ but not all that difficult when approached with patience.

I've been an Ikea fan for years and love the design of the PAX system, but it was the most hellish shopping experience of my life. They frequently lied about availability, everything is out of stock, overcharged, charged for shipping that was free, I had to wait in line behind 25 people in store, their computer systems were down, their printers were down, their system said items were in stock and weren't and it took 5 employees 50 minutes to figure that out. Highly discommend PAX until they figure this out, and Ikea as a whole at this point. I do like the coffee table you showed, and I'm tempted to get a marcus chair.
did you complete your wardrobe? I've seen a few breakdowns on this system and lots of other people are saying to plan ahead and print out everything before going in otherwise the staff fall to pieces without everything done for them lol
@@Cut_tape-x9j I designed the entire wardrobe myself and was ready to order. I actually just got off the phone with Ikea today (and called them for hours yesterday) and they transferred me three times and said their trucking company picked up the order and never gave any status update. Ikea has been miserable for me for many weeks if not months. Used to be a big fan too.
For me pax was a really good experience at least in Germany. I planned it at home and checked the availability in the nearest shop. Almost everything seemed to be there so I wrote on a paper exactly which pieces I need and on which row they are. It didn't take more than 15 mins (we entered from the exit side to save time).
Thanks for the chair info-- I am looking for dining chairs! I am super excited about your new home tour!! Make it soon! You have done amazing things in all of your homes, but as your daughter is growing, it would have been harder to continue living in your old apt.
I was listening to music with my eyes closed when your video popped up next and you sounded like a commercial for a few moments before I realized the previous channel ended. You have such a crisp and melodious voice , you could literally do commercials - just wanted to mention it. And kudos to you for saying all those Ikea names out loud. Apart from bringing cheap furniture to the world, Ikea can also be credited with launching the Swedish language at the unsuspecting public at large. LOL.
Corey Sofa out of Montreal gets my attention. 3 different styles, assemble yourself as 2 seater, 3 seater, 4 or sectional. They are shipped to you, easy to move, have covers that can be washed, hold their shape and satisfaction guaranteed.
This video is so well done! Thank you for the information in here 😃 I'm setting up a home office from scratch, so I went to Ikea today and got the Lack shelves in oak and the Kolon clear mat/floor protector that goes under the desk (that floor protector is cheaper than anywhere else that I've been able to find, and it's good quality). I think those are two really good products. Anyway, happy to come across your channel, and I just subscribed!
As an Ikea lover and huge fan of Daniel, the only recommendation that I disagree with has got to be the Markus desk chair (at least if you're 6 feet or above). I bought it last year as an upgrade from a wooden kitchen chair and only kept it for about 6 months. The top of the headrest only came up to the bottom of my head, lumbar support was hitting my mid-back, and the seat of the chair was too short for my legs. It's a shame because I think it looks visually great for the price, but the long-term performance just wasn't there for me. But please take my feedback with a grain of salt, and make sure to try it in-store to see if it works well with your height. If I had to rewind and pick again, I would either save up to get the chair that I eventually settled on, or would've preferred the Langfjall.
My favourite new-ish IKEA item is the MÅNHULT dining chair. The round backs are a statement, and I found it to be the *most* comfortable dining chair they had, with the best lumbar support. Also if the colour becomes dated they wouldn't be very difficult to re-cover.
Recently I've bought the 6 drawer Kullen storage unit, its basically a budget friendly version of Malm units. If you can't get a Malm, go for Kullen, you won't miss anything at all. Highly recommend it.
@@tonylarose4842 Bought it only a few weeks ago. Perhaps in my country they're getting rid of the remaining stocks, idk. But I genuinely like it, no concerns whatsoever.
Fantastic list, Daniel - so helpful to have your pro opinion on these pieces! I'd add the IVAR cabinet for a solid wood piece at a great price - I'm working on turning three into a long media cabinet with a built-in look. Takes some creativity and extra effort, but can't beat $400 USD for 95 inches of cabinetry! Would love your picks for best/worst home accessories too - so many great ones ✨
Just started to follow. I always get a kick out of the pronunciation of the words - (I speak Danish), and what IKEA names their products. Like Bank Office for a carpet (too swank for a bank, imho), or farts (Pruta) for tupperware? A few chairs, roughly translated to 'forest living'. It's all kinds of awesome. I had very comfy Klippan sofas for two decades that never lost their bounce. Glad I stumbled across your channel.
the glass cover over the drawer is for tracing things. Just turning on the mobile phone flashlight and put it in with the flashlight facing up. Then you're all set to trace.
The Jattebo design and texture is perfect. The only thing that stopped me was the cushions were too fluffy you just sink in. It’s going to hurt your back and not sure if the shape will last long.
I gotta disagree with you on the glass peekaboo in the desk. As someone with ADHD, I like a clean clear workspace, but when I put things away I forget they exist. I have clear drawers on my desk for this exact reason.
Well a drawer to look into would be perfect for me or rather my adhd brain to put stuff in so I can still see but not have it around ontop of my desk the whole time. It would free up space and yes the clutter would still be visible but overall the desk would look less cluttered.
Do you have any tips for a kitchen backsplash for someone who is renting and doesn't want to use tiles? The kitchen walls are completely bare and don't have anything at the moment... I would be happy to hear your thoughts :)
Hard disagree on the "sofa beds are bad at both parts" to be honest. Living in a small apartment in a place where we get a lot of friends visiting from out of town, the Friheten couch has been life changing. Not worth its current jacked up price, but so many are for sale - it's a comfortable enough couch with few drawbacks. Multiple people have said it's super comfortable to sleep on, and it even has huge storage in the "L" piece. No regrets at all from me :) PS, good job with the product names this time! I don't know why they keep doing this to foreigners haha
What a fab video! Thank you! I’d like to point out that non-cushioned timber chairs are also uncomfortable for people with lower back issues (me being a victim). I even had to buy seat cushions for our already padded dining chairs, from IKEA of course 😁.
Thank you for this amazing video! I’m definitely going to share it with my friends who are in the process of designing their homes. I could use your advice on choosing the right armchair. I’m planning to buy a Jattebo L-shaped couch and want to find an armchair that complements it perfectly. My goal is to create a cozy, country living vibe throughout my home. Any suggestions?
The solution to the Hemnes bed is using a regular old iron bedframe to support a thing box spring and mattress, and use the Hemnes as a purely decorative enclosure. They are NOT strong enough to hold the mattress for a large American - especially if one is getting frisky with a partner, as a friend found out the hard way!
IKEA turns a profit with food. It's one of the biggest fast food chains in the world. The furniture is just the vehicle to get people into the store and consume everything food related :D
Why are attractive cordless table lamps -not like camping lanterns-so hard to find? In an old-ish house, with not enough outlets, I’ve been ISO of cordless lamps for months. Am I *that* picky?
Great video.. tho I feel overwhelmed and not sure what I really like! Lol I have a very small 2 room house (900 sq feet) and i really want to replace my dining table and bedroom furniture. They are nice, but there are extremely irritating things about each that bug me. My daughter sends me FB Marketplace options that are tempting at times, but I don’t want to waste a nickel on “possible” options. So I look and look.. feeling frustrated at my inaction. I look forward to your tour of your place!! Maybe lighting will strike for me?! Love your videos.
How are the Skogsta Chairs ergonomically like to sit on? The design is so appealing, I’m drooling but I am concerned about its application and durability.
I have the Klippan sofa and I actually liked it better than most of the others I tried there! It's a question of whether you like firm sofas, I guess. (Also, fake leather ones.)
Hi Daniel great video! Looking forward to the new home tour and the course! I know you mentioned in a previous video the financial savings of having your office and bedroom in one room. Im wondering what is the reasoning behind choosing to move even after considering the financial savings of a smaller space? Thanks again
Great list, I actually need a new standing lamp for my living room, but didn't want to spend a ton of money, I think that I will pop into IKEA. Looking forward to seeing your new home.
they changed the bergmund chair and they took away a lot of the slip cover options that were actually better. they also went cheap and made it with less padding so it is even more uncomfortable but upped the price.
You can always cover the glass in the desk with some pretty paper. I love the idea to place a light source in it an copy drawings like someone else wrote here in the comments.
Cable management is necessary . Your room is so plain those cords standout as an eyesore. Just a little advice from out here in UA-cam land. Thanks for the recommendations.
Lisabo is stunning, isnt it? I just can't get over that table. I also wonder what are your opinions on sofas such as landskrona, bastubo/bennebol. Do you think they will be a good purchase in a long run regarding pricing, storing and durability?
I’ve been shopping for furniture for 6 months and have not found anything worth buying. What is the best comfortable lounging sofa in a velvet or flannel, 200-250cm long, not a low back, that will last 7+ years in a low usage space.

Thanks for the great in-depth analysis and lots of insights. There are a lot of IKEA videos and this one is my favorite.
Flindshult. Pricey but the most comfortable Ikea chair ever!
As always, excellent video! Looking forward to your home tour.
Highly recommend it.
you must've gotten one a few years ago. Kullens are currently discontinued due to tip over concerns
@@tonylarose4842 Bought it only a few weeks ago. Perhaps in my country they're getting rid of the remaining stocks, idk. But I genuinely like it, no concerns whatsoever.
the open back on the Skogsbo. The one it’s inspired by at least has a second bar
That sounds like a great hack!
love the Ekenaset range, but really wish they did a high-back version, especially of the armchair.
That looks like a really nice view. Congrats on the upgrade, can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Well a drawer to look into would be perfect for me or rather my adhd brain to put stuff in so I can still see but not have it around ontop of my desk the whole time. It would free up space and yes the clutter would still be visible but overall the desk would look less cluttered.
Was thinking the same!
I agree re the stool with black seat. Nice
The Odger Chair is amazing as well.
Do you have any tips for a kitchen backsplash for someone who is renting and doesn't want to use tiles? The kitchen walls are completely bare and don't have anything at the moment... I would be happy to hear your thoughts :)
Congrats on the move! Hopefully not as stressful as the country hop!
No regrets at all from me :)
PS, good job with the product names this time!
Great intro! Can't wait for the rugs segment
Hey Daniel, Do you have a best standing desks video?
The solution to the Hemnes bed is using a regular old iron bedframe to support a thing box spring and mattress, and use the Hemnes as a purely decorative enclosure. They are NOT strong enough to hold the mattress for a large American - especially if one is getting frisky with a partner, as a friend found out the hard way!
I've been looking at the Persbol chair. Nice to hear you think that it's a good value option.
IKEA turns a profit with food. It's one of the biggest fast food chains in the world. The furniture is just the vehicle to get people into the store and consume everything food related :D
Padded seating is a must! #teamboneybum 😂
Hi Danial i love watching your architect redesign type videos please post more
Thoughts on the Malm pull up bed? Tons of storage but trying to think of downsides...
The seat cushion on the Holmsjo is upholstered quite poorly, recommend adding a couple more staples in if you do want to get it.
This video is *very* helpful. Thank you!!!
This is a very good video, very well explained and logical. Thank you. 🙏
Why are attractive cordless table lamps -not like camping lanterns-so hard to find? In an old-ish house, with not enough outlets, I’ve been ISO of cordless lamps for months. Am I *that* picky?
Great video.. tho I feel overwhelmed and not sure what I really like! Lol
I have a very small 2 room house (900 sq feet) and i really want to replace my dining table and bedroom furniture.
Window in drawer? Great light box set up
Hubby and I are tall. Some of the seating is too low for us.
Hi Daniel great video! Looking forward to the new home tour and the course! I know you mentioned in a previous video the financial savings of having your office and bedroom in one room. Im wondering what is the reasoning behind choosing to move even after considering the financial savings of a smaller space? Thanks again
I couldnt help but notice your loose wires in this video, bearing in mind I had just came from watching your wire storage video🙂
The Persbol chair is so smart looking! 💙💛
Couldn’t stop looking at that cable mess behind but a great video as always!
What do you think of the Poang armchair and ottoman?
Great list, I actually need a new standing lamp for my living room, but didn't want to spend a ton of money, I think that I will pop into IKEA. Looking forward to seeing your new home.
The stool Holmsjö! WEE! I grew up 5 miles from Holmsjö village.
Massive props for pronouncing those names right! (At least they SOUND right to me 😂)
they changed the bergmund chair and they took away a lot of the slip cover options that were actually better. they also went cheap and made it with less padding so it is even more uncomfortable but upped the price.
The glass window desk seems like a great opportunity for something purely decorative.
You can always cover the glass in the desk with some pretty paper. I love the idea to place a light source in it an copy drawings like someone else wrote here in the comments.
I agree with most of your picks but not the lamps. Too modern for my taste. I enjoy your videos. Glad you finally moved into a bigger space.
Thoughts on IKEA Sektion kitchen cabinets?
IKEA just needs to hire you to help them with their furnitures. It'll really help us all.
Your IKEA pronunciations are getting better! Did you ask them to voice clip these before filming?
