I really wonder how they are going to deal with the fake bids. I feel it would be really awkward in the aftermath if an auction item closed with a fake bid. Along with that, notifying the banks to pull money because it was "fraud" seemed to be a thing that happened last charity auction.
Maybe they'll find a way to regulate such problems in time. Hopefully everything goes well. It really is depressing that there are people fake bidding to charities.
I am very confused on why it's not a thing having been properly addressed yet. Like, auctions are anything but new at this point; surely there had to have been cases of fake bids and credit card fraud in the past
@@midknightcrisis8612 It's been adressed as they come, as fake bids come in, 99% of those fake bids are done using fake or stolen cards, so as they get verified fake/stolen, the bids get removed, for valid cards Tiltify can either change the name displayed and contact the person using the email provided to verify validity. If no answer in a timely manner because the card is valid but mail is fake , they can then remove the bid.
Since this has now become a recurrent problem (ppl still keep maliciously adding fake bids continiously seems to be a 1st for them ) Tiltify are adding more security measures in the coming days to automate the process, I guess?
I am sure this is the first time they encounter this 'persistent' problem on their auctions because of ppl going out of their way to shit on Pokimane even if it is for a charity event. Haters are such chitty ppl.
@@midknightcrisis8612 Fake bids, where someone just cannot pay what they bid, are usually dealt with by simply offering it to the next highest bidder at their bid.
Charge backs are harder to consider, but some IRL auctions don't accept credit, and you may need to prove you have the money to cover a bid before you're allowed to get a bidding number. If your card number or account has multiple charge backs on an online auction site, you'll likely get banned since if it's a pattern, then the auction site loses money.

The thing is you can't just put a MAX BID. 500K. usually you top the person who bids the highest.. Like the highest bid is 30K, then the next bidder just drops 500K? that's obviously not a normal person.

Not really. If they don’t have the money, they don’t have the money. What can the charity even do about it. Put them on a payment plan?
Even if somehow this became criminally enforced, which it won’t, then they’ll just go to jail, and the charity will still be effed over from having been able to receive amazing amounts of money/resources from people able and willing to pay.
This has been an issue for AGES with online auctions. When you bid it should charge your account and only submit the bid if the charge clears, then for subsequent bids it should just charge the difference between their current bid and their next bid so there arent concerns about multiple charges.
Its insane that this is still a problem in 2024 when the solution is so obvious.
The issue would be, who pays the fees? There is one of the actual charge. There probably is also one for canceling it.
The fact that there were millionaire streamers who were streaming this and sending fake bids is so disgusting. They could have donated the 500K and not break their bank. But they were still fake bids. They were just donating for attention from Pokimaine

There is a discussion to be made on to what point the product offering for charity is so bizarre and creates so much fuzz that it kind of becomes counter intuitive to the purpose of the charity.
The IDF is a charity heavily focusing on informing people, yet this charity is more popular for all the pokimane drama that completely shadows the purpose of supporting IDF.
By the way I am not suggesting that this is pointless nor am I fully against it, but I do feel that a discussion regardless of the outcome is necessary at this point.
The actual event will do an amazing job of promoting IDF. But the pokimane drama will basically leave it out of the discussion. This is fine because at this point in the event most people not watching Connor would have no idea about it anyways.

Some do, but nearly all just do credit card number and the CVV number on the back, which are very easy to grab. The US credit card industry and security are oxymorons.
@@sanhakim1335 im from Asia so I dont have much knowledge about the USA credit card but whenever you withdraw cash dont you need some sort of password separate from the info you can find literally on the card, in Vietnam we even need facial recognition to make a transfer over 1000$

Problem is that there is real money at stake here so for those who have actual intentions of bidding, this needs to be brought to their attention.

You can bid leading up to the auction. And then during the auction each item will have a final call to bid on and end. Brings some hype beforehand while previewing the items available.
