If you have insurance and it has a missed port inclusion, you can get a letter from the cruise saying they missed the ports, and the insurance will compensate.

I have great insurance and they wouldn’t. Weather related doesn’t always count. I spent over $100 getting a visa for a port that got cancelled and nada.

Missed ports due to any hazard, though possibly disappointing, hey, no problem--be happy--you're on a cruise. Frankly, we enjoy and make the most of a ship experience anyway. Live in the moment, it is what it is, yesterday is a memory , tomorrow has NO guarantee, don't mess up tomorrows memories by allowing today to he garbage in your life. (There are plenty enough of days in life that we cannot control as it is. I certainly can control how I feel on a ship with power, food, entertainment and still afloat.)🛳️😎🤟

We’ve been on a recent cruise where we couldn’t tender into Grand Cayman and we couldn’t. Understandably however….. I’m hearing this is all too common and due to the weather. If it’s all too common then, can one really just blame it on weather. That’s easy! Just don’t sail there or put a caveat into the specific island. If it’s all too common. Now, if it is not then c sure one can understand. But, when it happens more often than not (can’t port) it’s clearly a known issue and wtf are we going to that island to begin with only to be disappointed. I book for the ports. And sure there’s thee occasional “can’t port” and it’s the fine print; to reiterate when something is so common it’s ought to be known and one ought to be liable for failing to provide me/ us with reasonable enjoyment.

I just did a video on the loss of P&O & the Pacific Explorer. We have been on the Pacific Explorer twice and have 2 more booked before she gets decommissioned. She is beautifully renovated but definitely showing her age. The sad thing is that Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth are now losing another one of their extremely limited cruise ships. I love Carnival but now we have to add another $2000 to any cruise we choose to do with flights for the 4 of us, food and accommodation. It’s sad but I understand.

Hi Don we have been on lots of p&o aussie cruises and over the years have enjoyed them all. However after the openning up of cruising here we went on the Explorer out of Auckland and although the ship was great sadly there were a lot of first time cruisers who dropped their teens. There was lots of drunks and large groups of teens hanging around the ship til late and probably all night. Security was hopeless. Its understandable they are closing p&o down it was like the wild west out there. We are going to miss the ships and the team onboard they are excellent security really let them down.

There's definitely a way to measure precisely where a modern cruise ship is, or where it was, at any time.
The on-board GPS knows exactly where the ship is, and it is recorded from moment to moment.
It's also public information: go to one of the cruise tracking web pages.

Indescribable huge turles in water and waterfalls along that Napili Coast and Sacred Heiau pools...of Hawaiian royalty..on top of mountain and just so rich and incredible eye watering scenery.

It is just one of those things that happen. I know they aren't obligated to compensate, but any compensation would be nice and would leave a good impression for the cruise line. However, I have been on 3 cruises that missed a port due to weather. One, they stayed a day longer in the next port, and the other 2 no compensation. It did not leave a bad taste in our mouths because we knew that it was possible to happen and our safety was 1st and appreciated.

If you really wanna go someplace fly there and take a land tour , cosmos, Brendan, costsavers tours etc.
it’s a lot better than a cruise you can see a lot more and don’t gotta worry about missing cities because of the weather.
    You go rain or shine.
And you get to see more because you don’t get dropped off at 9 am and gotta be back on board in 7 hours.
Most tours I’ve been on you get 1-2 days on your own.

This is in no way equivalent, but it involves a Carnival ship and a port missed due to "weather". We just got home from a four-day cruise on the Carnival Freedom, calling on two ports, Nassau and Bimini. When we got to Bimini, it was rainy and overcast, but sitting on my balcony as we approached the pier, there was no wind and the sea was very calm. Rather abruptly, the ship turned around and the captain announced that we couldn't dock due to bad weather. I guess he knows his skill level, but nobody saw any weather that could have caused this. We did hear people saying that they booked this cruise only so they could go to Bimini. The only refunds were for shore excursions.

My husband and I LOVE cruising! But we've missed a port or two here and there.
In fact, back in 2002, on our Hawaii cruise on Norwegian Star, we were supposed to land on the island of Kauai, but the sea was REALLY rough; 15 foot swells, so the Captain wisely opted to cruise back and forth on the North Side of the Island, just like this ship did. BUT we were a good two miles away from the coast.
We spend the day learning how to make different styles of Leis, and doing other things. We kept occupied and still had a good time.
We DID get to Kawai three years later when we were cruising from Hawaii to Tahiti, though.

Get multiple cruise ships in and it would be very bad. When you go on a cruise one of the chances are that you may not get to one or more ports.

That Celebrity Edge Captain is a nut. We toured the Hawaiian islands two years ago and when we couldn't stop at one port, so the Royal Captain also added the NaPoli coast, going back and forth to allow both sides of the ship a clear view. However, we were so far away I had to use a big Telephoto lens to get good shots. Better to do a land tour of Kauai, I think. As for Greenland, we did a long cruise in 2017 that included 5 stops in Iceland and 2 in Greenland as we came back across the Atlantic. Iceland was wonderful and every stop was worth it. Greenland not so much. Visually, Greenland and it's Prinz Christian Sund is exciting and stunning. The one port I got off in was about the worst I have experienced though. I enjoyed the tender rides, but the fishing village had little to offer except millions of little black flies (some people had netting on hats as protection) and hikes here and there. They did have one pub I could get to. As a senior who now has limited mobility, I would skip Greenland in future. Note of course this was not Ilulissat, which appears to be the major tourist destination. Also, if they couldn't stop at Greenland, passengers should get their port fees refunded. I don't cruise Carnival, but Royal has done this before.

AIS Data, publicly available, will show where the ship was. So do the electronic nav Logs. The cruise line could have gotten ahead of the Public Relations curve by showing the ship was OK or admit they were not.

As a minimum, port fees and taxes should be refunded. But missing a major attraction, the reason for going on the cruise, should be compensated for though (just can't quantify it though).

They should not visit our neck of the woods nor Greenland in May and June. Too many stalled low fronts this time of the year that brings days and days of RDF. Carnival Pride is a “Vantastic Ship”. We sailed to ICELAND on her last August. She stops in my childhood home town of Corner Brook today.
    Enjoy the hot Ottawa weather.

All passengers should receive a chunk of Greenland ice to take home . . .

As long as they can keep their ships clean, I would consider Margaritaville at Sea for the right price. I hope cruise lines continue to respect Hawai'i's rules. I saw Greenland in the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) and that is good for me because Greenland seems to not have much ... Iceland would be better. There should be some compensation if a Greenland-specific cruise doesn't deliver Greenland, though, even when the issue is the weather.

I'm booked for Greenland / Iceland next year. I'd be highly disappointed if they didn't stop. Plus, nine days at sea is a long time. It gets worse though. They can't swap out their entertainers, or bring on fresh provisions. I was once on a cruise where their shipment of yeast they were taking on in the Azores wasn't there. They had to ration it for the rest of the cruise. They had to stop making breakfast pastries and things like that.
It's not just missing the ports, it's also things like that.

If you wanna go to Iceland and Greenland just fly there instead of a cruise. You can see a lot more and you won’t miss anything because of weather.

The cruise line definitely knows it was too close to the shore. The ships have GPS that is continuously recorded to the ships "black box". The ships position is also being sent to co. hq. I don't know why you would fall for the co. BS line.

It's always sad to have to miss ports but I love sea days also, I would think that people would get some money back or something for missing ports.

We did a greenland cruise that left NY and ended in Iceland, it was awesome.. however greenland was boring and there was basically nothing there unless you booked an excursion. We stopped in Qaqortoq and basically all you could do was wander around looking at people's houses, it was a teeny little village. There was 1 tiny shop selling touisty trinkets that was so jam packed with people desperate for something to do that we didn't even bother going in. It was nice to say I went to greenland once, but I don't think I'd want to go back. It was beautiful scenery though when we were just cruising through the area.

I'm sure that captain may have gotten a little to close by mistake. The wind and waves could have been a factor. Your right, it is disappointing missing those stops. But we can't help the weather.

Margaritaville larger ship with more days will just be a longer time frame for people to drink & get drunk & stay that way. That and other unpleasant things are what their cruise line is known for. No thanks even if it’s less expensive we will pass.

Poopers, already missed 2 ports. I am happy to hear they received $400. Per cabin. That would help covering the cost for a couple extra cocktails lol

Have no idea why carnival was trying to reach Greenland in early June. Seems like late July or August is best bet.
