Not my favorite song of theirs but listening with you made me remember how many unique riffs were on each song on this album. There’s like 20 sections to this one alone. They play this stuff for 1hr+ each night & drunk & running around. Legends
You're actually spot-on with hearing the theremin! Their keyboard player at the time, Vadim Pruzhanov, used the theremin to record sections on this album and the next album (that I know of) and there's even a behind the scenes "making of" of the album Ultra Beatdown where you see him recording with it. Super talented keyboard player.
Speaking of the interactions between the guitars, the arpeggio section between 10:52 and 11:00 is insane when you see the sheet music. One guitar is playing in a mixture of straight notes, triplets, and quintuplets, the other is playing mostly quintuplets and the occasional sextuplet. The weird echo effect it gives is one of the coolest things I think these guys have ever done.
People can say what they want about DragonForce, but they are masters of combining speed and energy with endless catchy melodies and hooks. "The Last Journey Home" is probably my favorite of theirs, and woudl be an interestign song to break down musically. Granted, they put stuff down in the studio with so much layering and things happening that they are impossible to pull off live without stripping them down a lot, but people put too much emphasis on the live, and don't appreciate the art bands crerate in the studio. Back in the "classic" era of music, hearign or seeing bands play their stuff live was a rare treat, but the records they made in the studio are held up as their legacies. Today live footage is so readily available, people use it as the standard to judge bands by.
The ZP days... 🔥🤌 dont get me wrong, Marc is a great singer and unique in his own right💯🤘 but the nostalgia when you go back to the earlier albums and literally hear ZP's voice grow to what it is now 💯💯
This song and Valley of the Damned are my absolute favorites from them. Cry for Eternity is a musical masterpiece in my honest opinion. Anyone who says they don't like this song is lying to themselves.
One of their masterpieces for sure. Especially guitar wise , they went all over the fretboard on this song lol such an adventure of a track. More DragonForce reactions !!! You shoud definitely listen to their Japanese exclusive track called E.P.M, that song is insane. Operation Ground and Pound and Heartbreak Armageddon are some good recommendations too, or Soldiers of the Wasteland, so many good songs

It’s the double bass that makes it sound fast. But other than that it really isnt as fast as you think. Not to take away how hard a double bass is to master. The drummer is still amazing.
Dragonforce has never played this song live as far as i can see, so i chuckled a bit at the last part of the video. I'm no musician, so take this with a grain of salt, but for many years (probably 10 at least) i have checked in to see if i could find anyone on UA-cam actually covering the entire guitar solo of this song, and only recently i discovered that a guy with the username HalfDuck did it quite well 3 years ago. I don't know, but it seems like the "Hawaii" sounding part (in lack of a better term) is very hard to pull off consistently.
Since you listened to so much japanese stuff already, I'd recommend Ado, especially Fleeting Lullaby, she is a very young singer and her vocals are really unique and quite amazing Edit: nevermind you listened to Ado already haha :D
If you haven't, you should react to the entirety of Agony album by Fleshgod Apocalypse. You're in for a very wild ride. Or any albums or songs from Kamelot.
It is hard to relate to this level of ability! Like this has to be approaching the upper limits of technical proficiency, but it's still artful and emotive. Next level stuff for sure.
@@sn1p3s29 They're still ridiculously fast guitarist. While they play the guitars to compliment each other, that doesn't mean that its easy to play a guitar like they do
@@eliblanton7698 96 Madison is my fav show of all time... but things changed a lot with that corps and their show design. I miss the latin days! I go to finals in Indy every year as a spectator. Paul Rennick's percussion design is my favorite sound as far as drumlines go but I tend to appreciate the artistry of how complicated field shows are at that level. I do miss the days of massive drill on the field but hey... things change.
@@DrumRollTonyReacts Yeah, I miss the big drill too. Particularly the cavvies stint of the late 90's early 2000's drill was amazing. I am not a huge fan of the props but like you said things change. Paul rennick is unmatched in drumlines. SCV has had an amazing drumline sound the last 10 years.
If you love great guitar work I would HIGHLY recommend you check out Galneryus. They are well known as the Japanese version of Dragonforce. The Songs Angel of Salvation (NOT THE MUSIC VIDEO), The Force of Courage, Raise my sword, Brutal Spiral of Emotions, Hunting for your dream, Destiny and Ultimate Sacrifice are all amazing songs
Now you HAVE TO react to Ne Obliviscaris! I recomend listenning to the live version of "And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope" (ua-cam.com/video/rNuVdsx7qJY/v-deo.html), it is very well mixed. That song is also included in a teaching curriculum at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, one of Australia's most prestigious classical Conservatories. With all the bands you recently listenned to, I'm pretty sure you will love that one. "Imagine... you're the tech... on tour... you get to see that all the time." I don't think they've ever played this song live and it's become a little bit of a meme for people to keep asking for it. Probably more work than it's worth to re-learn all that.
Ok... I have been until really tonight (listening to an other songs from them), very critical of their music... I 120% love Herman Li as a human and what he does for music. I had, until today, not wrapped my head around their music. I'm NOT a music nerd, but I LOVE music and hard rock / metal. And until today I was torn between their INSANE instruments skills and their music I truely never was able to appreciate... until I finally had this epiphany... They are INSANELY talented musicians (I already knew that) that can 100% destroy any band musically, BUT what I never got around was the fact they are never putting themselves above others (while they absolutely could) And this is 120% serious music made 120% not seriously... That was the part I struggled with... Every song they have is really making fun of all of what has been done in metal / hard rock. DragonForce is a concept, not easy to get into... and it needed to grow in me. Was not instantly pleasing to me, but the more in listen to them, the more I get it I guess ? 😂🤣😂 I always tried to listen to them "seriously" which is the absolute worse way to approach that band... You need to be drunk, open minded, and ready to laugh hard at yourself as a metal music fan to get into it...
I guess I can kind of understand what you're saying because when I first started listening to them in 2006? I was thinking to myself wow this is way too fast for me and now when I want to do physical labor or anything like that DragonForce is my go-to

Cry For Eternity should have been the first track on this album. That’s how underrated this song is.
Na the album is in good order.

Maybe not one of their best but for sure some of the best solos on the whole album.

afaik he started using the Theremin during the Ultra Beatdown era

Do you have a link for the sheets?
Theres another youtuber called halfduck who did a full solo cover w/ tabs of this song and its honestly insane
i have already seeing it him solo of halfduck so was insane
Excellent album, and some of their best guitar solos ever! It's a fun challenge on Guitar Hero 3 PC and Clone Hero.
One of my favorite DragonForce songs. This is simply a masterpiece. Glad you made a reaction video to it.

This is exactly how I feel. ZP Theart will always be the voice of DragonForce for me. I simply like his voice more
Same. They've been with Marc for 12 years now, that's how long ZP was with the band but he's still the voice of DragonForce for me too
It's a glorious song, one that I WISH they would play live.

The reason why dragonforce songs sound so impossible to play on a guitar is because its not 1 guitar its 3 playing different parts of the same riff
