I only recently discovered Dragonforce because of Dan Vasc's covers of their songs (love his covers, too). First thing I thought of hearing their guitar was possibly influenced by Yngwie Malmsteen. I believe Dan Vasc & Victor the Guitar Nerd included the chorus of this song in their montage "10 Power Metal Songs in 6 Minutes"...which is awesome.

In the 90's, heavy metal had fallen out of commercial favor by 1995 and most metal bands from the 80's folded... Others kept the faith and continued to record and tour. Their live performance of this song in Japan is insane especially how easy they make it look! It's the video suggestion on the bottom row after the video finished if you're interested 😉
Saw them live a while back and Herman Lee jumped off the stage and ran around the audience on top of all the lined up merch tables with a backpack and go pro on while playing this solo and never missed a fuckin note. Absolutely floored me

Nope you're not tripping. They're all about Fantasy driven themes in their music. Herman Li and Sam Totman are absolute beasts on guitar but for me the vocals and harmonies are what makes them so good. My inner nerd and D&D lover found a band that provides a soundtrack for those things. They're from England and have been around for a while. You should also check out similar bands such as Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Rhapsody of Fire, to name a few. Europe has a lot of bands like these. Power Metal and Symphonic Metal is huge across the pond.
Fantasy and Metal go hand in hand, there’s even a metal band with the lord of the rings actor Christopher Lee doing this dark fantasy narration but they’ve been doing it since metal started before fantasy was even common in movies compared to books. It’s meant to be Epic, in the ‘grand tales of old’ style epicness. And yeah these dudes are virtuosos, calling out Van Halen was also on point.
You should check out the drum cover of this song by Junna. I don't know how old she was at the time but she looks like a little 12 years old Japanese girl who just tears it up on another level. The Dragonforce drummer himself watched the video and loved it sayinng it was one of the best he has seen.
Dungeons and Dragons rock is a great description. They're definitely gamers^^ I never even knew there was a music video. I think I only ever have seen live renditions and covers.
Also I think Unleash The Archers- Awakening is sort of a spiritual successor to this. A male and female singer and all band members crushes it both individually and together. A very popular song in the reaction community, but it would be great to hear your thoughts on it.
That Tech N9ne comparison blows my mind. I started listening to these guys when I was a teenager, then when I got into rap Tech N9ne instantly became one of my favorite artists and you just made that connection for me.
"Are all their songs this fast?" - Pretty much, yeah. That's kind of their whole "thing." "This is like some Dungeons and Dragons Rock" - Welcome to the Power Metal Genre.
It’s power metal my guy, a lot of power metal has fantasy themes and is stylistically known for being super technical. Many songs are basically a 3 to 10 minute guitar solo. This song in particular was made to be the most difficult song in guitar hero 3.
Haven't played the song in Guitar Hero in about 10 years. But if I listen to it and close my eyes I can still see the patterns. Dozens of hours were wasted on mastering this xD
Dude... their current vocalist(Marc Hudson) does a duet with a somewhat unknown female vocalist(Gabriela) of a cover of Helloween's "Eagle Fly Free" that's effing amazing. I'm not going to advertise for the YT channel because he sells vocal lessons. But clues.
Interesting you make the comparison between DragonForce and Tenacious D, considering a lot of people were introduced to DragonForce through Guitar Hero 3, as this was the song that was unlocked after completing the game's career mode. Tenacious D's "The Metal" was also featured in the game. Also, the blast beats and super-fast riffs are pretty signature for these guys. I highly recommend checking out their song "Fury of the Storm," if you really like this one. Both songs are from their Sonic Firestorm album, which I believe released in 2005.
your instincts are insanely on point, if it were a chicken and egg situation like you were saying, then both dragonforce and tenacious D would be eggs that dio was a huge part of laying.
I can't do anything but laugh my ass off to this song every time i hear it, it's just so wild lol. WTF is going on is the perfect way to express listening to this. XD
This is Powermetal and Powermetal is all fast paced, maybe not always to this extent but it is the genre as a whole. Powermetal also has a theme of being the mythical, DND, video game orientated. Think of a movie or anything based back in medieval times and them charging into battle. Thats roughly at some point what the theme will be or is. I would say this song is so great a song for this band that even if they made any other songs that could be hits, this song alone would force them to be a one hit wonder. I believe that Dio did birth or heavily inspire Powermetal without ever being Powermetal, the whole mythical land basis that Dio loved to use that is.
There is a drum cover of this song by my favorite little Japanese drummer named JUNNA ... find it. You will be amazed and entertained. Herman Li is a genuinely good human.
viking rock...tends to be a little bit different. I feel like the most popular band that's specifically inspired by vikings and old norse things in general is Amon Amarth who have a ton of songs and albums inspired by old norse mythology but they're also a melodic death metal band where as Dragonforce is more progressive speed metal. if you ever want to check out Amon Amarth, most of my favorite songs are from the Deceiver of the Gods album, like As Loke Falls, Father of the Wolf, and Hel. The whole album has to do with Loki. Their most popular album is Twilight of the Thunder God, with the most popular songs from that one being the title track and Guardians of Asgaard Another route that "viking" music sometimes goes down is the route of Heilung, who are a group that create their own instruments and construct songs based on ancient poetry and texts, sometimes in dead languages that they have to reconstruct. They're so cool to listen to, and it's just such a unique and primeval experience. A lot of their songs have the vibe of like, preparing for battle late at night with a heavy fog rolling in, in a clearing in an old growth mountain forest. Some of their popular songs are Krigsgaldr, In Maidjan, Svarand, and Norupo. I would also recommend either watching the Lifa performance video or listening to the Lifa album (which is just the audio from that performance) because it has the ambient sound of a live, open air performance, which I think enhances the listening experience since it adds the sense that the music and chanting are taking place in a community. Although the studio albums are really good for background music while you're trying to focus or like to meditate to since some of the chants are pretty repetitive, like Hamrer Hippyer.
I'm not gonna act like I know this information cause I didn't, but the tempo for the song is 200bpm (170bpm in the first half of the guitar solo). The song is written in the key of C minor, but in standard E tuning. My source for this is Google so you can fact check me on anything if anything is inaccurate or if you just confirm. Being a musician myself, this level of musicianship and being able to play any instrument this good makes me gush over the fact that people are so incredibly talented.
This is considered power metal with what’s gotta be a speed metal influence. Power metal is big on melody and clean singing. And even other pro veteran metal guitarists think it’s prob the fastest playing ever.
Weird fact about me: If my life feels like everything is moving too fast...I'll listen to an hour of DragonForce and then everything feels and sounds like it's on slo-mo. 😅
I could do every song on extreme on GH3, minus Raining Blood, and this bad boy in question. Cost me a lot of street cred at 16 on the piss at a party. I've never recovered.
funny I'm not a huge rap fan but YEARS ago tech nine played at rockfest & it was pretty fire 🔥🔥 , gotta rep KCMO & speaking of soundtracks....check pretty much any song by EPICA, sooo many could be in a movie, i actually want "the fifth guardian" by them played at my funeral lol

You should check out the drum cover of this song by Junna. I don't know how old she was at the time but she looks like a little 12 years old Japanese girl who just tears it up on another level. The Dragonforce drummer himself watched the video and loved it sayinng it was one of the best he has seen.
Trauma of the final level of Guitar Hero and the carpal tunnel that followed 😂
Lol that fact that he had to check the playback speed to make sure it was normal had to dying.
Dungeons and Dragons rock is a great description. They're definitely gamers^^
I never even knew there was a music video. I think I only ever have seen live renditions and covers.
This isn't D&D metal. Windrose, now that's some Dwarf Metal.
Windrose - The Gates of Ekrund are calling to you to witness their defense!
I loved tour reaction
Also I think Unleash The Archers- Awakening is sort of a spiritual successor to this. A male and female singer and all band members crushes it both individually and together. A very popular song in the reaction community, but it would be great to hear your thoughts on it.
That Tech N9ne comparison blows my mind. I started listening to these guys when I was a teenager, then when I got into rap Tech N9ne instantly became one of my favorite artists and you just made that connection for me.
Heavy Metal was never a boring Music !
Hermans second part in the solo battle has always been my fav its a definite vibe
"Are all their songs this fast?" - Pretty much, yeah. That's kind of their whole "thing."
"This is like some Dungeons and Dragons Rock" - Welcome to the Power Metal Genre.
"That's some D&D metal..." Truer words have never been spoken :)
now if ihe wouldve done the album version which is 7 minutes where the solo is longer his mind wouldve been broken
Got instant finger and wrist cramps, this song hits me in my muscle memory from Guitar Hero 😂
"How fast is this song?"
DragonForce: yes.
your instincts are insanely on point, if it were a chicken and egg situation like you were saying, then both dragonforce and tenacious D would be eggs that dio was a huge part of laying.
I was thinking of my days working at a record store, having fun to this. Then you said 17 years ago. It's official, I'm a dinosaur 🦕 😂
Never thought you would be doing this this soon. The hardest level of guitar hero three.. Never mind that.... any guitar hero
The speed and the clarity is so awesome, you should check out
Shepherds Reign a different kind of rock
I can't do anything but laugh my ass off to this song every time i hear it, it's just so wild lol.
WTF is going on is the perfect way to express listening to this. XD
Herman Li has his own youtube channel the band has changed a little as far as members but they just finished a tour
Also another one you'd ❤ because of dueling guitar part. Operation Ground And Pound 🔥🤘👍🔥!
Dragonforce - Heroes Of Our Time.
Now that you've seen this, you can now watch Tina S. playing this song on guitar.
5:45
Core memory recalled
There is a drum cover of this song by my favorite little Japanese drummer named JUNNA ... find it. You will be amazed and entertained. Herman Li is a genuinely good human.
My favorite song to play on Guitar Hero.
this song is in guitar heroes 3 and brutal legend a game that jack black voiced the main character in
Should check out Rise by Extreme, not as lengthy, but Nuno Bettencourt's solo is incredible
I love the drinking water to show this is real speed.
viking rock...tends to be a little bit different.
Their most popular album is Twilight of the Thunder God, with the most popular songs from that one being the title track and Guardians of Asgaard
Another route that "viking" music sometimes goes down is the route of Heilung, who are a group that create their own instruments and construct songs based on ancient poetry and texts, sometimes in dead languages that they have to reconstruct.
I am once again suggesting Avantasia- The Scarecrow live at Wacken
Imagine coming up with this....check out Between the Buried and Me: Ants of the Sky and they say hold my beer.
This is considered power metal with what’s gotta be a speed metal influence. Power metal is big on melody and clean singing. And even other pro veteran metal guitarists think it’s prob the fastest playing ever.
Steve Via Joe Satrania,Jimmi Hendrix,Eddie Van Halen and Herman Lui (the again guy) are some of the best
Guitar hero PTSD just kicked in
So many little gamer noises throughout.. the mario ones are easy to catch 😊
Weird fact about me: If my life feels like everything is moving too fast...I'll listen to an hour of DragonForce and then everything feels and sounds like it's on slo-mo. 😅
this is power metal, brotha! its all fast paced af
“How fast is this song?”
Me: yes…. As in yes is the answer to this question
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I played this to a battle finale in my dungeons and dragons game :)
Funnily enough they are a British band. Just a pity they don't seem to be releasing new tracks of late.
You definately need to watch the full version of this song, this is the short version. The album version is even better and over 8 minutes.
I could do every song on extreme on GH3, minus Raining Blood, and this bad boy in question. Cost me a lot of street cred at 16 on the piss at a party. I've never recovered.
funny I'm not a huge rap fan but YEARS ago tech nine played at rockfest & it was pretty fire 🔥🔥 , gotta rep KCMO
& speaking of soundtracks....check pretty much any song by EPICA, sooo many could be in a movie, i actually want "the fifth guardian" by them played at my funeral lol
2:19 - ahahahaha, fcuk, he actually checked to see if the video was sped up)))))))))
Dragon Force E-guitar Players are S Level while playing!
