Glad you enjoyed the song. What you've heard from Guilty Gear, they do often have some unique patterns and compositions, but Love The Subhuman Self along with a handful of others compositions will maintain a general pocket, but will still have some fun with some things. Ps- Thank you for the analysis as well, as I really enjoy learning new observations with these songs that I didn't notice until you broke it down.
I've been waiting for this one. Gotta be one of my favorite tracks in the game, alongside 'Symphony' and 'Ups and Downs,' can't wait to see what Tony thinks of it.
@@Skynordgameryes he knows it's just a thing that people in the community say about game for example two players keep clashing on purpose and someone will say "this is daisuke's vision"
@@leafycu-sparky2619 lol it feels like he has reacted to nearly all of them except my favorites. This one and Faust's themes are some of the best though so that's a plus. I need the elphelt, Jack-o, and May themes as soon as possible
I think this one is more "conventional" than others we've heard on the channel, but sometimes it's nice to have songs like this, and this one is one of my favorites especially because of the chorus. I hope you can listen to Roar of the Spark soon!
I adore Love the Subhuman Self. This used to be my favorite song from the base game for a long time. The spot might have been taken by Necessary Discrepancy, but man, this one is up there. I love how the all the instruments go hard as hell, while the synths add a texture that's almost floating. Then the second singer comes in and makes the song even heavier, but, every single time, the chorus manages to sound incredibly vulnerable and human, and that makes me weirdly happy. My favorite section is probably towards the end, where it actually sounds like Millia is putting all of her insecurities out there "Don't leave. Don't leave me" before picking everything up into this catchy chorus immediately after. But also, I think this is one of those songs where no one part stands out that much to me, as I just appreciate it as a whole.
I get so excited when I see one of these Guilty Gear videos pop up, man. Always love to hear your perspective on it. Huge shout out to Sebastian for the consistent requests, seriously.
Finally you hear a full Aisha song! You've heard her before in Necessary Discrepancy but that was still mostly Naokis song. You also heard Jamison before, way back in Smell of the Game where he recited the mankind speech. Aisha's tone in this is so surpising compared to how she usually sounds, usually she sings in much more upbeat songs, but she killed it here she's amazing. She's been streaming on Twitch lately, learning to play Strive as her first time with a videogame ever, and she apparently forgot what her other Guilty Gear songs other than May and Bridgets sounded like, so when she heard this one in game she was like "that's ME??". But yeah I'd love to see you hear more of Aisha's tracks, The Town Inside Me and Perfection Can't Please Me are my other favorites of hers.
One of the things I see from Daisuke Ishiwatari the composer is that he uses silence as a rhythm. Like that drop out of the drums you caught. It's so fun to me.
I love the composition highlights like at 11:48; It's the kind of thing that as a casual music person you might not actively catch or understand why it's interesting especially in a (by Guilty Gear standards) relatively tame track like this one. GG was my gateway into all kinds of Japanese rock and it's been fascinating listening to genres I've enjoyed for 20-some-odd years through a whole new and sometimes very different lens.
Some context for the chorus switch-up sounding very power-metaly "So carry on - love the subhuman self". Likely the chorus is a nod to the band ANGRA and their song 'Carry On'. Millia's hair-demon is called ANGRA which is a reference to the band but they doubled up on it for this song lol. Original chorus for Carry on goes as: "So carry on - there's a meaning to life." In a way it is the same message in the greater context of Millia's story. (Also she has a move in game called "Secret Garden" which is an ANGRA album. Really drives it home lol.)
I will allways love how the GG songs aren't just bg songs, instead they are like part of that character story or personality like: Subhuman Self has a male singer on the background along with Aisha refering to Zato and his relationship with Millia, at the same time the song feels aggressive but also like a heavenly lullaby some times like Millia itself being this angelical woman on the outside but a professional killer inside Sol's theme being badass like sol Or Elphelt theme being composed like a christmas song because she was borned on december 25th
Favorite part of this song is definitely how strong the chorus is, I feel if Daisuke ever re-composed this though he would give the second vocalist more parts, even if it’s just alternating lines with AISHA
the songs featuring Aisha have been more traditional ones (but still good of course), though The Town Inside while not explicitly different, tweaks the tone and layers of instrumentation, helping you feel the journey of character the song represents. All of Guilty Gear Strive's songs are about the character themselves. Their perspectives, journeys, philosophies, struggles, etc. the more you understand the lore, the more you're like "yeah, this makes sense"
You're listening to these wildly out of chronological order, but in general with Strive, the songs from the base game at launch roster, like Smell of the Game, Carve Your One Way, & this are a bit more "normal", & the post-launch DLC characters have been getting more & more out there with the composition.
@RuzPav I know! I'm just letting Tony know that there actually is a rhyme and reason to the level of of progressive structure changes, it's not just all over the place.
Heck yeah another off the GG list! Great analysis as always, love listening to you geek out about the songs. Still gotta do Extras. They got a different female lead, Molly, for that song and she kills it
Love reactions and analysis to GG songs man, you nail the point every single time and get all those details that make this soundtracks special. Keep going, the next you should do must be Extras - Elphelt theme
I may be taking a break to learn A.B.A. but Millia is my forever main since GGX. Writhe in Pain, Lily of Steel, and Love the Subhuman Self are all spectacular themes.

If i recall right you already listened to Necessary Discrepency so you're familiar with Aisha, she's the other singer for the guilty gear themes and I love the contrast between her style and Naoki's very distinctive style
OxT the guys who did the 1st 2nd and 4th op for overlord made a new song for the movie called WHEELER-DEALER and it is awesome plain and simple. maybe check it out?
my favorite part of guilty gear music is that in the actual videogame of guilty gear you never get to hear all these awesome latter halves of the songs because a match of guilty gear only lasts like ~2 minutes at most
I'm just realizing now that the songs with Aisha on vocals don't really ever have a big twist - they're just really solid all of the way through. Still an amazing song though.
Yup the reason you got used to the final section going somewhere else was because lately you have been hearing the DLC character themes that came after the game finished and Daisuke went even more experimental on those ones 🤘
Do the League of Legends Worlds Song that comes out on the 24th or 25th(I forgot which)! it's super popular so you'll get lots of views, plus the songs bang and the animation is sweet!
I'm still sad about the change to the instrumental palette between this official version and the one that played in Millia's reveal trailer. Still good though
Okay, so Millia is the ex lover of Zato=1, which is why you hear male growls in the second half of the song. You can also hear Millia’s vocalist in the very last line of Zato’s theme with “I’m a shadow always with you.”
I don't know where you got that from but she was adopted and raised by zato hence the whole "Assasian" thing source:strive, xrd,xx accent core plus guide, wiki, and me being no1 millia currently lol
@broseidonofthebrocean What i meant to address was the comment that the portion of the song is addressing that because they were *ex lovers and not because zato learned to let go of the hatred he had for millia and vowed to protect her and be on equal terms which the song is most likely addressing
@@broseidonofthebrocean "Born in Russia, Millia lost both of her parents to the Crusades at an early age. In 2173, she was found in the ruins of a village and taken in by the Assassin's Guild, now under the recently-appointed leader, Zato-ONE. Taken to be trained as an assassin, Millia activated the 6th Forbidden Spell in 2175, although whether she took the curse freely or if it was forced upon her is unknown. She was then trained to use her hair as a lethal weapon, but Millia wanted no part of such a loathsome life, and tried to commit suicide several times. At the same time, her relationship with Zato evolved from savior, to teacher, to lover, even as she questioned her life as an assassin." While I wouldn't call "being taken in by the Assassin's Guild" an "adoption", it is what the wiki says. She was taken in by the guild 7 years before the events of the first game.
