Looks like a nice bag. I was lucky, I found an upstart out of Ontario on etsy. I got a full veg tanned leather messenger bag with brass hardware that holds my macbook air, external monitor, ipad air, ipad mini, power bank and airpod max for about $275 CAD. The sitching isn't perfect but it's not going to come flying apart. I doubt it's fancy veg tanned leather, it looks and feels like the veg tanned leather you can get for around $70 a side from Tandy leather that comes from mexico. I think what seperates these sub $500 bags with the far more expensive ones is the lining details. For the price I feel mine hits the 'good enough' margin, which is what I've been looking for in a bag for a long time now.

Oh, and I’ve got a Filson large briefcase. It’s 25 years old, bought it at Eddie Bauer on Michigan ave in Chicago. Oh man does that thing have wear and tear. I sent it back to Filson for repair and they told me no beuno, they can’t repair it and I can have a new one or my old one back. It was an easy choice, the old boy is still in use and showing up for duty every day stains, holes, and worn leather included.

Leather craft is cool like bracelet making or hand made watch straps good history lesson. If I do buy bags more then anything else it was to have stage and a ton of pockets next water and grease proof and can take a beating.

A good review of the bag but also highlighting the different options both within the brand but others as well. A good balance with the good parts and the could do better was great to see.
I like it. One of my hobbies is leatherworking. And I've made a handful of "mail bags" of my own design. This one looks very nice. I really like the felt pocket and the applied front pocket. The side pockets are (as you said) unnecessary, but a nice touch. I personally don't care for the decorative buckles and button stud closure of the flap. Or the way the side straps are attached with D rings. But those are the details that make a bag fashionable instead of utilitarian. I think you got yourself a bag that should last a lifetime, and at a reasonable price. If anything is going to fail, it will be the D ring attachment on the back. Stitching across the strap holding the D ring just creates a perforation at the highest stress area of the bag. But if you don't overload it constantly, you should be fine.

I own the Hobo from Bleu de Chauffe and use it all the time for going to week-ends and even longer trips. I have it for 5 years and the patina is amazing. You will see with yours...
Nice review! Bag looks great. It looks like some of the competition uses other fasteners to hold the top handle on, looks like they just sew it on. I carry my current messenger bag around a lot by that handle, thoughts on durability of just that?
I think it really depends on how much weight you’re carrying in the bag. If you’re loading it up everyday with, say, textbooks and a water bottle and a laptop, it might not be the best choice to carry it by the handle; I’d want a couple rivets there if you’re carrying heavy stuff all the time. Otherwise, I think it would be okay. I have a tendency to overstuff my bags, so it would give me pause, but I also always carry crossbody, so the handle is something I only used to move it short distances.
Great to see another video from you. I watch videos and television/movies and try to catch all the watches. In this one I saw a retro gold-colored Casio digital, a Dan Henry Chrono, a Tudor Black Bay 58 and a G-shock. Was I close?
Pretty awesome messenger bag, the tumbled black leather really pops in contrast of the color of the leather strap... The choose of felt is really interesting, although I think suede could have been another interesting option. Congrats for your bag, you look like you're enjoying using it. And thanks for video.

I got the BDC camera bag of the same colour to replace my Billingham Hadley pro and it’s awesome - like you no break-in required and it’s stylish.
