    Possibly the most gorgeous workbench I've ever seen! Your craftsmanship and attention to detail are spectacular. The design and ability to break it down for moving is excellent. The sliding vice design and details are awesome. Art, heirloom furniture, and tool. This is a masterpiece workbench I hope your kids catch the wood bug and it stays in your family for several generations.

    Wish more of the craftmen would be like you, Sir. I'm currently using my grandfather's tools and starting to learn joinery and simple woodcrafts from all the material he left here.
    I'm living in the old winecellar/garage with my girlfriend at the small plot of my grandparents and trust me, when I say it: your attitude, precision, talent and perseverance will live on and speak to your children just as you wished!
    Through your work and thoughts You are giving priceless heritage to the world, not just your children. Keep up with it, never cease to create!

Your grandsons grandsons and granddaughters granddaughters will still treasure that bench and I would recommend keeping a copy of this video on a memory chip hidden inside one of the pins so that in 200 years someone will watch that speech at the end and hear the voice that they could only have imagined.

  • @framerguy
    @framerguy 8 років тому +11

    I watched some of your early videos awhile back and I had to reserve judgement on whether you were just another frustrated hippie kook or were you the real thing?? You have more than proven your worth with this project. Even at such a condensed speed of construction, I could see the pride, the attention to detail, and the thought that went into making each and every cut, join, and finishing touch in a series of separate works of art all contributing to the final mosaic that you call the Samurai Workbench.
    It would not have bothered me one bit to be able to watch that entire project from the measuring of the first board to the last stroke of the finish onto the last support in real time video. I am old and humble enough to admit that there were moments when you were adjusting something or taking a hair off of a tenon by hand, that I had to fight back the tears. I felt the emotion that was there in your actions as you made a minor adjustment to a fitting and your reflexes when that fitting slid together as planned.
    Do you realize that, when an entire project has the hand of the master upon it from start to finish, it reflects all of the balance, the blending of species of wood to form the whole, and I almost was embarrassed to see that square mortising chisel used where a hand chisel should have had the responsibility of making those cuts. It was almost like someone spliced a piece of another video into an otherwise perfect representation of the tools used and the knowledge and skills needed to do what you did with that bench.
    You will do great things in the woodworking world, Grasshopper ... :-), I would love to be there when you reach my age and see what you have done with your skills. It would be a highlight in my life to witness the results of such dedication. You are to be commended on your excellent start on a career that will have no bounds but those in your own mind and body as you challenge yourself to move ever higher in your education and training.

      +The Samurai Carpenter I have to say I feel sorry for the guys kids. Dad had me by his side showing me how to do things and letting me play with and use his tools.. that led me to find I love working with wood... flash forward many years and having bought a home in California with a nice garage and porch, and a need for some new furniture, and a wife who likes crafts style furniture..I'm putting a shop together and then I get to build her a settle.. or a craft style couch.. cheers and thanks for the awesome videos. Your kids are very lucky to have you for their dad.

    Put this bench in a museum and build another one out of crappy 2x4s. 😂
    I wouldn’t be able to do actual work on this beauty.
    I built a deck on Bainbridge Island many years ago . the client wanted old growth clear red cedar for the deck boards . When the lumber arrived , my partner and i just stared at it and then i said , “ i don’t think i can cut it, it’s too nice”. so we sat for about thirty minutes contemplating the impending destruction of those boards.

    I love that man whatever. I am a non-believer with Muslim background. When I was young I read a book about that guy and I just loved him. I don't care what was his belief or what. He was a very nice human-being. People would ask what does all these non-sense have to do with this video. It's quite relevant dear Sirs and Madams. I am talking about Francis of Assisi 0:10
    Such a great word he has said.

    • @chrisis9030
      @chrisis9030 7 років тому

      There is no relevance to your comment whatsoever, +mogbaba. Who gives a hoot about your religion-oriented ideas???
      This channel is about fine woodworking, sir. Education, indoctrination ect in Muslim countries and families has nothing to do with it.

    • @mogbaba
      @mogbaba 7 років тому +2

      Chris Is
      I am sure you did not read my comment at all. Typical western biased people, you just saw "Muslim" and begin to type against me. Take a glass of cold water, relax and read my comment. In fact, I have predicted people like you there. After you have read and understood, comeback and tell me if my comment is off topic.

    • @chrisis9030
      @chrisis9030 7 років тому

      +mogbaba You can be damn sure I read your comment, and I simply detest people bringing up religious shit where it doesn't matter at all.
      And don't you judge or patronize me, my level of education and general knowledge are above par and so is my intelligence. I really doubt whether you know or understand more about Francesco d'Assisi than I do.
      "Typical western biased people, you just saw "Muslim" and begin to type against me."

    • @mogbaba
      @mogbaba 7 років тому +5

      If someone should leave this is you Mr. intelligent. The first picture of this video after name of the channel is a word by Francis of Assisi. So, I am quite on topic. Because you have not comprehended I have to make you understand it right. I am a non-believer, got it? In my comment I utter love for a great personality, whatever religion he might have. Giving information about my state of philosophical view and my background was in fact for people like you to understand that we humans can love each other without categorizing each other. I didn't promote any religious view there. I acknowledged the channel owner's choice of the comment. In addition I Relive Assisi's word is quite on topic and fits very well the great work The Samurai Carpenter has done. appreciating his word is in accord with the video. As I understood, you are a person with very law level of tolerance and unable to understand the nice word of Assisi. At the end I have a friendly advice for you: You are not the owner of this channel and have absolutely no right to dictate your dark views on other people and no one to ask other people to leave this channel. You can do it in your own channel.

    • @chrisis9030
      @chrisis9030 7 років тому +1

      + mogbaba Why thanks for the compliment. I’ll admit being intelligent can be a burden ;-).
      I will not leave, and neither should you, I never asked you to do so and you’re very right in pointing out this is not my channel (which I was aware of all the time, but that’s OK), please just spare us your comments as specified before.
      I will not bother you either about my origins, the way my grandparents practised their religious beliefs and the fact my grandfather was a clergyman.
      That’s my point - it doesn’t matter in any way. So why bring it up?
      I’m a non-believer too, a term which isn’t even accurate - my mind and and heart are void of any religious indoctrinations. And people consider me a very decent, caring man. Not that I care.
      And what do you mean by “people like you”?? Are you categorizing me?
      However, I sincerely hope once you’ll be proven right in your hope people can love each other, ‘cause the news tells me they can’t and won’t. And my education tells me they never have - humankind is always at war with itself, and religion or other convictions have always been at the center of it.
      If you wish to inform me on the the lighter sides of Islam and other dangers to world peace, I’d love to read that on your own channel.
      This channel is not a forum for discussions like this, +mogbaba. This is about a brilliant woodworker, from a brilliant woodworker.
      If you want to continue this discussion, take it elsewhere.

    Incredible piece of art. A true dyeing skill, working with ones hands. The utmost attention to the smallest of details and the care of every strike of the mallet and push of a chisel. The look on the young mans face as the top finally laid in place was golden. The patience with a calm mind set is the only way to achieve such beauty.
