I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.
I just finished building my first workbench out of SYP and I’m happy with it so far. Your bench has so much more precision than mine. I’m inexperienced and have some gaps, but I feel it’ll do it’s job for years. Thanks for sharing!
I couldn't have been more impressed with your skill, and with the engineering on this build. You sir are an absolute master wood wooker, and I appreciate your sharing your prowess for the rest of us to emulate.
Nice work young man! I really like how you hunted down just the right wood for making your new bench. So often do you see other channels on youtube, even some very popular channels, who use wood that contain the pith of the tree. Cheers, William
Great work with a wide variety of measurements and tools. AND, it was a real bonus for me to watch a fellow "lefty" working. It gives me a measure of hope for success on my own.
This was the most details I've seen on a UA-cam video of someone that is making one of these workbenches, very easy to follow if making alongside your video. Nice one thankyou!
Just happened to trip over your channel and now I'm a subscriber. Great video and discussion. Can't wait to see what else you've done, thanks for sharing,
Excellent video! Well thought out and presented. I commend your good work on the bench and applaud your videography. I prefer videos that have no background music, but yours was at low enough volume for me to almost forget it was there. I especially appreciate the fact that you did not point the camera at your face and blab incessantly. I watched your video because I am interested in what you were building, and that’s exactly what you presented. Well done.
The simplest ,nicest beefiest, workbench I have seen. That Southern Yellow pine looks fabulous too. May I suggest a 3/8 th inch hardwood baseboard for your router to span a long cut like the wagon vice routing job. BRAVO man.
POV: By now you've watched around 50 videos of how to build a work bench, yet you're still sitting here and wondering how the hell you're gonna do it owning only a drill and a hand saw + 10 dollars on your bank account.
NO FAIR! YOU ALREADY HAVE A BENCH!!! lol.... seriously, nice build. It really sucks building a roubo without a lot of space and very little work holding - but it can be done.
Haha. It definitely made it a little easier. I thought about making it on saw horses but I wouldn't have had any room to film it.lol. thanks for watching
G’day mate, seriously enjoyed this build video, these are full on builds & referring to using pine Jay Bates just put out a cool video on his comparison pine versus Hickory workbench & I think he enjoyed the pine bench better, absolutely top video buddy & keep on cruising along, looks like the weather is hot in the States 🔨🔨👍👍
Sumo's Projects I'm glad you liked it. I watched Jay's video. I was considering using a harder wood but at the end of the day, I want to be able to beat it up and not feel bad about it! It was good to hear he liked the pine better.
great video, thanks for sharing. When you were routing freehand near the end of the video, I would use a small piece of straight lumber pinned down with brad nails and use that as the fence. Since it's the bottom side, the little pinholes the brads make won't be noticeable. (just my 2c)
My top is 5" thick, so I used a brace and auger bit to hog out the waste and a chisel and router plane to clean and square things up for both the cavity and the rail slots.
Great job with the work bench (Y) I'm new here, and I hope it's okay I mention this: A loose shirt and a jointer (or any rotating tool) within an inch of each other is something that can't be said too often, as people still do it and some of them get badly injured! (About 1:13 into the video) I know, people need to take care of their own safety, absolutely, but when editing a video like this, it would be a perfect moment either to remove the sequence or better, add a "Don't do this" comment. This is not meant as a negative comment and I sure gave the video the Thump Up it deserves, but if we can't teach people not "just" how to make amazing things, but also do it safe, and admit we're all human and we all make mistakes, it's in my view a "win win". :D Stay safe and creative (y)
Thank you, Dave. Your presentation on this build is the best of many out there. I'm getting ready to start my bench using Benchcrafted's hardware and plans and a load of 8/4 ash I scored for cheap. Your video brings that rare combination of real expertise and an efficient presentation that moves right along, while including all the necessities and a whole bunch of little practical tips that I think will save me a bunch of headaches. Well done, man.
Thanks so much for the feedback. Your going to love the vise hardware. I am definitely spoiled now! The bench is going to be nice out of Ash! Good luck with the build.
Hi Dave. I finished my bench 2 months ago after 300 hours of work. With care, it came out so nice and better than I had expected. I ended up finding some African Sipo for the chop, endcap, and deadman. And you were right, it makes all of my woodworking projects so much easier and pleasant. Your videos were a big help. @@TwistedWorkshop77
I have to say you put out a great video. Your explanations are great and you come across very humble. You’ve earned a new subscriber and I haven’t even looked at your page to see if you gave other content. Thanks for sharing.
Really well done! You are a patient man waiting 5 weeks for the lumber to dry! I think I started my bench within a day or two after buying the lumber! I just couldn’t wait. Cheers, and really well done video too!
The HandToolery I was excited to get started but had to finish a couple other projects first. Not sure how much waiting helped. A couple boards were still pretty wet
I built mine about 18 months ago, and though there has been some warping, it's been surprisingly little, and I've not had to re-flatten the top yet! I'm betting yours will be fine a year from now, too!
Very nice. Every thing is neat, clean, and in a very high pecision I watch the way how you hold your tools and you do hold the tools like no other does, perpendicular, perfectly square, .... very great job ... stunning
I wish i could get SYP in the Northeast for what you said you paid. up here all we get at the home centers is crappy whitewood out of canada. I've decided to hold out and wait until i can pull enough money together to go with a Maple bench. Nice build you did a great job.
Thanks. My brother in the middle of building the same bench with maple. It looks great. Probably a little easier to work than pine too. The hard and soft mixed grain of the yellow pine was tough to get clean cuts and shavings
