The best career choice is definitely BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION. Why? Because business administration is focused on the administrative process which is basic and essential to event planning. It teaches you the whole process; planning, organization, leadership and control. Yes, hospitality and management can teach you important things but you can learn those things on a course or by experience. Business administration will teach you how to actually build and run your business.
It’s definitely a toss up for #1 if the average person were debating college majors for this career path. Personally I 100% agree with you. I’m a huge proponent of a business major and learning the creative process of planning and such through experience, but for the sake of picking the best major for a niche specific job...It’s just got to be stated that the degree specifically curated around the niche career by default is the “best” choice from an accredited institution. In any case, I strongly feel a successful career can be bred from either (even from those who don’t choose to pursue a degree) depending on the individual’s work ethic.

😯 Oh wow...that’s steep. Well I wouldn’t necessarily say don’t take it if you really wanted to. It really just depends on your goals for your event planning career. If you want to gain the knowledge for yourself and have it on your resume I’d say do it, if it’s worth the money to you. I just want you to know that you are not required to take it to start or be successful in this industry! 💕
That’s awesome! I wish I would have told everyone to shout out their schools in the comments, if they know that they offer the hospitality program. Thanks so much for watching and sharing! 💕
Hello Shenae, I definitely think the best way to start your event planning career is just to start! We know college can’t replace the hands on experience that you get through real life situations. On the flip side, if someone wants to go to college, that’s their preference. Some people think it helps them feel more knowledgeable and prepared going into the industry, some people just planned to attend college anyways no matter what career they were going to pursue. So it’s definitely not a requirement as all of us in the industry know very well, but hey to each their own. If you’re getting a degree in business and you plan to start your own event planning business that extra knowledge is not going to hurt. People have to find their own way to their success the way that feels good for them and fits their lifestyle, we can’t judge, only support and advise. 😊💕
Awesome video! I personally have a Business Degree and an Event Management Certificate from Mount Royal University. Both have been invaluable in my career as an Event Professional. Is a certification course completely useless? I plan on taking a wedding and event planning certificate course as well as an entrepreneurial certification course. I figured it would help me learn more about event planning before i just jump into a career i don’t know much about.
Hello! So it’s not that it’s completely useless. Its just not required! It’s not a barrier to enter the field. Many people are tricked into believing you need to get “certified” first to be an event planner ( specification by taking some online $1,000 certification course from a private company unusually)....but in all actuality it takes you being a full time event planner for up to 5-7 years to even be able to take the test for real industry recognized certification, and there’s only about 3 major certifications at that. These online courses everyone is taking aren’t true certification in the industry, they mean you received “certification” for completing their course. It’s misleading to people entering the industry and it’s not an overall requirement to be an event planner.....but furthering education can never be a bad thing, so it’s all up to you on what makes you feel more comfortable entering the field!
So, basically all week all day. Clients can inquire every day of the week at all different times of the day. As a general rule the sooner you respond the better, but this can be hard to keep a good schedule for yourself. I do most admin, like emails, client consults, planning, and shopping during the week. 9.5 times out of 10 your events are always on the weekend. However, if there’s say Spring Break then you may get a lot of weekday requests since many people have time off around that time. You have to try to set work hours for yourself that suit your lifestyle because you can end up working all the time as an entrepreneur. I get into my office around 9 usually after I take my kids to school, and get off when it’s time to pick them up around 2-3. If I need to come back I will or I’ll just work from the computer or do the other things I can do with them, like the shopping or errands. 💕
Loved the video! I was in college studying business management but due to personal circumstances I couldn’t finish. If certificates don’t really mean much, and I don’t need a degree, than what do you recommend doing to start event planning/management?
Such a great channel! New sub :) I was wondering what advice you had on starting an event planning business with the pandemic going on? I feel as though businesses like this and similar are really affected by covid and who knows for how long it would take a toll.
If anyone is Virginia George Mason University offers event management, hospitality and tourism degrees. This video was really informative and opens my eyes on what I want to do after I graduate. Thank you!
So glad Ashley! Thank you so much for this comment too, such a good idea! I should of asked everyone to write down if there school has one that they know of....That’s awesome then I would make sure to volunteer for as many of your schools event committees as possible to get that experience and portfolio started right away. Take pictures of anything you do, and get recommendation letters if possible. Even start working in your business,l since you have time, your name branding etc. So when you graduate your business is all set to launch! Good luck love! 🙌🏼❤️
Wow I was just looking up event planning certifications and your video just shocked me I don’t know if your remember me but my name is Reba we went to high school together

You as well girl, it’s crazy times right now, hope you and your family are doing good! If you’re looking to start your event planning business just do it girl, no need for certification. Things will recover in time for the industry and people are still throwing events so it’s going to rebound in time. 💕
Would you please go I to more details on this.. I am a high school drop out and I old and DNT do well in school.. but I would like to be a becorator planner
I think most people feel like they are supposed to have a “license” “certificate” or “degree” in almost every industry. I think people feel it will kind of validate them in the field. Since there are no barriers to entry I think that’s why folks crave certification to get that feeling of being legitimate in the beginning. There are some specific corporations, private firms, or clients that may require it, but for the most part it’s about your skill level and portfolio, so it just all depends on where an individual plans to work. I think the misconception is that you can just get it right away. It’s not even something to be thinking about until you’ve been in this career for years so in the beginning it’s nothing to even worry about...and probably by the time you can get one you won’t even care anymore 😄
Unicorn, spa, and paint parties we’re always my most popular! Yes, I did always stay to host, but post pandemic I’m trying to transition my business out of that model. 💕
Hi! My name is Ronak Patel and I am a hospitality major with a concentration in event planning at Stephen F. Austin State University. I have the desire to transfer to schools that have a better option for the hospitality degree, like University of Houston, but i keep going back and forth because there are good things about both degrees. What do you think I should do?
Hello Ronak, if you intend to be an event planner I would say a hospitality degree with a specialization in event planning would be an ideal major. If you find that there’s a school that has a better program and you have the opportunity to switch with burdening you then I don’t see a problem with transferring. I would just recommend you do your research and the go with what your feels right for your goals. 😊
Hello there, the links are in the description box of every video ☝️ and also in the iCard throughout the video in the top right corner! It’ll take you to my Etsy Shop at Etsy.com/Shop/MissEventPlanner ! You can find the guide there 💕
This is your first video that I have watched and I like it a lot. Are you having your own business or workplace which people contact you directly? And could you hint me a little bit about average earning for planning an event? Thank you.
Hi Catherine, so glad you found the channel! I have an office that I work out of and my local event planning clients contact me directly through my website. The average event planner according to studies pull in between $50,000 and $80,000 a year. It all depends on if you work for a firm, are independent, location, type of event, you clientele’s income class, etc So you’d could make a couple hundred on an event to thousands depending on those factors which will be unique to you!
Hey hun, don't feel pressured to change your major just because it's not the "best suited" for event planning. You can be an event planner with any degree, trust me. Computer science is a great degree to have and you may need to maintain a job while building your dream business. You can learn the art and science of event planning without majoring in hospitality. 💕💕
@@BashBesties I’m gonna give it a year and try to plan events around my college too see how I like it! This has been my dream for years idk y I’m not following it 😭
Yes that’s an awesome plan! There’s so many opportunities to get into event planning while still in school, you should definitely take advantage! Make sure you take pictures so you can use it for your portfolio! You can definitely pursue your dreams and your education simultaneously! 💪🏼💕
If you are starting your own event planning business then general “business management” will help you run the business which is half the battle. A great alternative is “Project management” for event planning.
Thanks for the video! I wanted your opinion on engineering degrees, since that’s what I have 😇 I am interested in starting event planning as a side hustle, because I really loved planning Galas and 5k events in grad school. Do you think it’s enough to have that engineering degree and pick up on other things as I go?
Absolutely! Event production and custom builds is highly sought after for clients with big budgets, especially corporate. Having that background is such an asset. Literally everyone can pickup on event planning and decor in some form or fashion but those with a unique background stand out from the crowd! Start the side hustle and play to your strengths and your particular skill set!!
@@BashBesties Thanks so much. Looking for Suppliers and where is the best place to learn different ways to decorate has been one of my challenges. The new round backdrops with the pedestals and the candy carts. I would live to do childrens parties with those in mind. Would you ever consider putting a mini convention/meeting on yourself in near future. You're so good at what you do. Thanks
I’ll do a video on where to find all those items, I know the pedastool and round back drop are just absolutely everywhere right now! Sounds interesting if you could write online articles on celebration events for your local town or tourism? I mean there’s people out there willingly looking to collaborate as long as you’re passionate on event planning.
Hi there ! New subscriber here. Just a quick question if this weird I apologize. Is there such thing as an event planner/party planner for baby showers and kids/adults birthday? Thank you!
Hello there, welcome to the family! Yes, there’s event planners that handle all events and there are those that choose to specialize in a specific niche. I always like specializing in the beginning as I think it helps you stand out from the sea of planners out there, but it’s not required. I pretty much specialize in children’s events! 💕
Hello, salaries can range drastically by location, on average event planners in California make about $50,000 a year. That can go up significantly if you have high end clientele or a rental business. It can go down if you serve a lower need clientele or only work part time of course.
Thanks dear! You can definitely do it, well luckily to this beautiful online space on UA-cam I can be everybody's digital mentor! Stay in touch because I may be creating an online members only group course soon!
Hello, so if you are just starting out, there are no courses you can take to get certified unless you’ve been a full time event planner for about 5-7 years. Online “certification” schools are not professionally recognized in the industry. Those are private businesses selling a certification for completing their specific course. Are you already an event planner looking for a recommendation? Or just starting?
@@BashBesties I am just starting and I’m stuck on where to start and what to do. I’ve been looking for 2 years now and I’ve been asking for multiple internships but I feel stuck
It’s very common when starting in this industry, so don’t think you’re the only one. It’s even more so right now during this pandemic where the opportunities to jump in are very limited, but it will not always be like this. It’s a good time to start planning for your launch. You have to decide do you want to work as an event planner for another company, like a hotel or your own? If it’s your own use this time to create mock shoots showcasing your work and start your business website and social media pages. It may not be much since you might not have as much to work with at first but it’s a start and it’s practice. You can also start researching your local businesses what types of services are they offering? What’s the price points? What’s in a standard package across the board? How can I stand out among them or specialize?
Hello! So you can be a coordinator or planner without any credentials. The barriers to renter the industry are quite low. However if you plan to work in corporate or for large companies they often are looking for certified event planners or project management. They may require a degree in hospitality to work at some hotels, or hold certain positions. It just depends on your path. If you’re looking to coordinate everyday weddings then experience and quality of work is basically the only certification people look for. 😊
God bless you for sharing your extensive knowledge and expertise. You are so intelligent; beautiful inside and out! Continued success to you and your family!
If it were me I would choose business or marketing, and supplement real life experience with a party helper job working for a local company or start my own event planning business side hustle while going to school.
Yes I definitely will, I broke my filming camera at an event. The small table blew over with the camera on it, while we were getting setup footage. 😔 Currently getting a new one and I’ll be back! 💕

Thank you Emilie, glad to have you here!! 💕
Do you get more business on the weekend or during the week? What are your operation hours like?
Business is the best route.
Love it, thx for the info, I’m your student now!👌🏻
Of course, I'm glad to have you Rocio!! 💕
If anyone is Virginia George Mason University offers event management, hospitality and tourism degrees. This video was really informative and opens my eyes on what I want to do after I graduate. Thank you!
Can you take that program online?
I am from Maryland but live in Vegas.
@@drebanker2012 not really there are some courses with in the program that are online but majority is in person
Hey girl, wow, small world huh! From Buena Park?
@@BashBesties yes I was looking at the video like that’s crazy it is a small world .. I hope your doing well not going get all up in your business in the comment section .. great video
You as well girl, it’s crazy times right now, hope you and your family are doing good! If you’re looking to start your event planning business just do it girl, no need for certification. Things will recover in time for the industry and people are still throwing events so it’s going to rebound in time. 💕
@@BashBesties I believe you I just threw a movie party for my daughter’s 10th. Family is doing well I hope all of yours is well too.
Would you please go I to more details on this.. I am a high school drop out and I old and DNT do well in school.. but I would like to be a becorator planner
Also, I have been a corporate event planner for years and they do not care about certifications. I work for Hilton just so you have an idea
What is your most pop package? And do you always stay to host?
Unicorn, spa, and paint parties we’re always my most popular! Yes, I did always stay to host, but post pandemic I’m trying to transition my business out of that model. 💕
It's good course but hard to find sponsors or company In South Africa 😥
Well done 👍 job I love the video
Thank you so much for watching, I hope it inspired you in some way! 😊
Hello, I loved you video and wanted to see your "Instand Guide" you mentioned, but I don't see it :/
Hello there, the links are in the description box of every video ☝️ and also in the iCard throughout the video in the top right corner!
How are you able to do contracts as an event planner with a cooperation?
My major is economics and computer science 😭 i think I wanna change it to be closer to my dream path
I recently came across your Chanel and i I just love everything about it, you give good advice which is very understandable.❤❤❤❤❤
Thank so much, I really appreciate that! I hope you stick around and join the family. 💕
@@BashBesties you're most welcome and I'll definitely stick around. Love everything you do.
Can i ask you that which app or software do you make your videos with???

Is Business Management part of Event Planning?
If you are starting your own event planning business then general “business management” will help you run the business which is half the battle. A great alternative is “Project management” for event planning.
Thank you!🙏🏾❤️
Thank you for being here! 💕💕
Very informative, thanks!
Thank you for watching!! ❤️

That’s funny you’d ask that, I just responded to that same question right before yours. I would love to one day, what state are you located? A mini convention/class is a great idea! ❤️

Hey I'm Netra I'm from india I'll be doing my college in america in Harvard but I want to become an event planner. Can you give me some tips and what should I do ? Should I work in a company
I do a journalism major at the minute. Could this help with being an event planner?
Sounds interesting if you could write online articles on celebration events for your local town or tourism? I mean there’s people out there willingly looking to collaborate as long as you’re passionate on event planning.
Good afternoon Where can I find the instant printable guild?

Question? What NAICS code is used for event planning?
I can’t remember the exact number, but I use the miscellaneous personal services code. 😊
Hi! This video was really helpful to me! Can you tell me what is the average salary if I became an event planner?
Hello, salaries can range drastically by location, on average event planners in California make about $50,000 a year. That can go up significantly if you have high end clientele or a rental business. It can go down if you serve a lower need clientele or only work part time of course.
@@BashBesties thank you very much :)

As an Event Planner do you need matric

Hello, what about interior design?
Yes design anything will be helpful in this career!! 👍
So I do want to take courses to start towards my certification. What online school or website would be the best to do so?
@@BashBesties thank you!!!
Do you have to be certified in order to be licensed as a coordinator
