  • "SkinnyBrace" installation to brace the second floor of a house above a garage, demonstrating connection to second floor framing, foundation reinforcement, and anchorage to foundation.
    More info at www.quakebracing.com
The installation shown cost approximately $12,000 including engineering, materials, and labor.
SkinnyBraces are available in sizes that resist from 2,400 pounds to 11,750 pounds, using a seismic response modification factor ("R") of 6.5. Typically only ONE is needed, and can be installed on one side or the other of a garage door or other large opening in a wall. This makes the installation much more versatile than steel "moment frames" that are the traditional soft story bracing method. Faster, better, less expensive--get the skinny at our website!

Great video. Interesting to see this process.
Apparently, the devastation in Turkey and Syria was partly because of the number of soft story buildings they had. Many were supposed to be retro fitted, but corruption got in the way. What a shame.

Thor, good to see that you have seen the benefit of the threaded rod. Don't like to see you on a work site wearing sports footwear. Please go and invest in a pair of Blundstone steel cap work boots. Most comfortable and wearer friendly, highly recommended, after wearing 'Blunnies' for 49 years. Toeless engineers not a good recommendation. 🙃🙃
