I've found most all CCI that I've used since the big shortage has not performed as well as it did before the shortage. My guess is the standards of manufacturing slipped during the last 12 months they were in a rush to catch up. Hopefully with this feedback they'll take a look and fix the problems.
Totally agree. We always had good results with the CCI but this last year and a half, the quality has gone in the toilet! I wouldn't recommend CCI anymore. Shame for sure.
@@leftyo9589 that would be fine if it made a difference, but the difference between loads seems pretty similar, which is saying good things for the standards but i guess once your manufacturing is pretty consistent sorting by batch might not be the key to sorting them
I'll be honest, I've received way better accuracy from CCI SV and Blazer than I have from Green Tag. I will never pay $30 for 100 rounds of green tag again. Last year I built a Ruger 10/22 with my granddaughter. I took the leftover parts and built another one: PMACA Chassis, standard receiver and bolt (I hand polished them), Ruger BX trigger, Spartan charging handle and a standard take off barrel (nothing fancy). I put on an old 3-9x32 Simmons cheapie scope I had laying around. Out in the desert I was hitting a good percentage of ground squirrels at about 125 yards with CCI Blazer. Had a total blast!
My experience with Tac22 is that it’s reliable and good for .8 - 1.2 MOA at 50 for my stock Varmint MTR barrel. I have cleared the KYL at 200y with it so it doesn’t suck but SK Standard Plus is better in my rifle
I would have liked to see a comparison between the Green Tag and CCI Standard Velocity. From my experience Green tag is no better and considerably more expensive. Keep them coming Josh great review.
I have spent more on Ammo trying to find that consistent brand and lot # than i did on my BR Rifles. Thanks for showing what Green Tag CCI wont do. I bought a bunch of Norma tac-22 to use for practice and CCI Std Vel. that shoots pretty well. My Go to Match ammo remains Lapua or Eley.
Great video Josh. I use CCI standard velocity mostly for short range prs shooting, 100y and in. It groups not that bad out of my Kidd 10/22. I did bed the whole action, and the receiver screw. Makes a huge difference.
I had similar results with Green Tag out of my CZ 457 Varmint MTR (factoring in that I don't shoot anywhere near as well as Josh). I had average groups of 0.411" at 50 yards (1054.1 fps average with 11.4 SD and 61.2 fps ES). Considering the price I doubt I'll be shooting it again.
Man, I was excited to try the green tag because the standard velocity shot very well out of my B14R. I had similar results as you tho. I wouldn't spend the money for it again, just shoot standard velocity. I'll save my money to drop on Lapua and Eley.
My 457 MTR with the standard 20" barrel loves the Tac 22. I get 5/16" 5 shot groups at 50 yards consistently. Regularly seeing one hole groups. I'm getting it in bulk at just over 7cents per round. It does as well as or better than any match ammo i have tried so far including SK and Eley. CCI of any kind... not so much. Inconsistent and too many fliers.
Same for me and my MTR. I stack the Norma deep because of the price. I get good results from Eley and SK as well, but the Norma is more cost effective.
I shoot Norma Tac22 through my 457 varmint (no MTR for us lefties) so not a match chamber. 25' indoor range testing the rifle produced multiple 1 hole groups. The range officer actually asked what i was shooting at as the "groups" were literally 1 .22" hole.
@@brianmeister7733 I absolutely believe this. I got about as true of a one hole group as one could get just this week with Norma once again, but this time in my Bergara BXR. Best group it has ever printed with anything.
Thanks for the great video. I have tried and was disappointed in both of these loads as neither my CZ 457 varmint nor my Bergara bmr like the CCI green tag or the Norma tac 22. Surprisingly, both of my rifles like the inexpensive Federal auto match.
same performance from TAC-22 as my CZ LRP....haven't tried Green Dot and probably won't after watching your video. Very informative as always Josh. Thanks.
Josh. Have you tried testing ammo with a joystick front rest? I see a huge difference in group size when I go from my AccuTac bipod to a Farley. It’s night and day letting the rifle recoil properly.
Time to revive this. It's 9/13/2024 and I just received five bricks of new Tac22. My results are just like Josh's. Shooting a RimX with a Paradigm carbon fiber barrel Triggertech trigger, Meopta Scope KRG stock no excuses for the rifle. Old Tac22 has delivered a bunch of tiny groups all the way down to .125 and plenty of center punched X rings and even shot through a Mite suppressor and a EC Tuner. The new stuff hasn't got it or I lost it somewhere. I still have some of the old stuff and my local store still has a bunch of bricks I just refuse to buy it at ten bucks a box. I paid 3.39 a box for it at Midway last week when I ordered it. The old saying is you get what you pay for. All is not lost, it does have low es and sd in the single digits I don't know why it doesn't do better. Hell of it is all five bricks are the same lot number. The projectiles look a little mangled looking maybe they got a bad run of them and put this stuff in the sale barn. I shot some in my old 513 Matchmaster and it did better than my expensive assed RimX I guess it will be designated for it. I still need to try it in my 10-22 it's partial to CenterX that would be a blessing if it likes this stuff. Right when I first got the RimX it shot RWS Target Rifle really well I never got another lot of it that did as good then I stumbled on the Tac 22 I sure should have paid attention to the lot numbers I depleted the good stuff before I realized what was happening and I bought a load from Norma. Got mixed numbers and a couple are bad but not as bad as what I just got.
Did you bed the CZ MTR that your shooting in this video ? If so, it sure would be nice to take a look at that . And have your input on betting that rifle.
Question on your Tac 22 test. Would you try a bolt shim to see if it improves your accuracy? What is your favorite torque set on your action screws on your CZ 457
Yep! That's pretty much what I get. The price of Green Tag is totally out of line with it's performance. One of my 10/22s that was worked by CPC just seems to love CCI SV. I have pretty good luck with some older black box Norma TAC-22 with my 457 with a 20 inch LIlja barrel. Have some new red box stuff that I got for $3.50/50 that I haven't shot yet. TAC-22 Match gives me problems in my 457s. Thanks for the report.
Same for me. It seems to shoot above its price point in lots of things, but particularly my MTR. I can stack 5, 10, 15 shots and so on into all touching 1/2 inch or less groups. This is usually prone off of bags. Mine likes SK and Eley as well (haven't tried Lapua yet) but I stack the Norma deep because of the price. Have you had anything that shot what you would consider to be truly bad out of your MTR? For me it was 36gr Winchester HP. It's very cheap and I didn't expect great results, but it was consistently 1.5-2" at 50 yards. Other cheap bulk box typically does better than that in my MTR. Honestly cheap HV bulk box often does better than that in my Springfield 2020 and it's not exactly a tack driver.
I had the same results with both of them out of my lever guns I would never pay for the green tag again but the tac 22 I'll shoot steel with just because I have a ton of it and it does good enough but the Norma match is definitely a step up in accuracy at least the lots I have.
Back in the day when green tag was 6.00 for one hundred rounds it was awesome, and shined over cci standard velocity. Now that the price has gone way to high for the accuracy you get, I find the regular standard velocity shoots better than the green tag.
My ruger American rimfire LRT didn’t like the green tag either or eley match or rws match or sk match or standard it didn’t like S&B match but it loved the standard Norma tac 22 average group at 50 is .350 so that’s not bad
I use the Norma Tac-22 as my cheap go to. It shoots well in most things but is lights out on my 457 MTR. Though unlike your Ruger, it does shoot Eley and SK rather well, but the Norma is cheaper, so I stack it deep. Btw, green tag is without doubt the worst "premium" 22lr ammo. It performs about the same as any of their loads. CCI standard, Mini mag, AR Tac, etc... and stingers have always been wildly inconsistent. CCI makes good ammo especially compared to most US made 22lr. It's usually reliable, affordable, and available but it's not match ammo. Green tag has been a waste for quite awhile.
To me Norma Tac-22 is okay when I got it on sale for $3.50 or less for a box of 50 back in 2023 and maybe the 2nd half of 2022. $7.50 for X-Tac is too close to SK Standard Plus pricing so I will take SK. I got better results from one 325 box of Federal Auto Match than I did from CCI Standard Velocity. Other CCI is not much better if any. I have not tried any additional boxes of Federal Auto Match. Auto Match gave me more 1 MOA groups than not in my Tikka T1X.
Josh, you've been pretty quiet on the L3i bottom metal. I've been waiting for a solution like that for a while. Is it any good, does it really improve mag changes?
I noticed the extra mag holder is on the right hand side of the rifle. Wouldn't it be better to have the spare mag on the left side of the rifle where it's closer to your left hand which does the reloads?
I realize this video is a little old, but if you see this I was wondering what height rings are you using on this setup? Would like to buy the correct height right out of the gate. Thanks
My experience with Green Tag just within the last couple weeks is similar in my old Model 52. I shoot consistently better groups with cheap Federal Auto Match at $21.95 for 325 rounds. Although the moon and stars aligned and I shot one really good group out of 120 rounds, just no consistency.
Sad to think the US used to make amazing match ammo. Wish FED would fire back up the machines and QA/QC to bring back UM1, 900 and 711 from the 90’s. Question tho, which bolt knob is that on the MTR? Looking for a new one for my American.
Only thing is that if you look into it RWS was making that ammo for Federal just the same as they do for Norma. I still have 3 bricks of that old Ultra Match and even 25 years later it's still one of the the best shooting ammo that I have shot of not the best.
@@timprice9826 Sir I’m referring to the UM1, 900 and 711 from loooong ago in the early 90’s. What Federal did in the 2000’s with the rebranded RWS was hot garbage. The stuff Federal made in the early 90’s, if made today the exact same way would cost more than Lapua’s offerings and be better than both Lapua and Eley
CCI I find is ok minute of partridge ammo. For that price point, no thanks. On another topic, have you been able to review a Victrix Venus pro rifle? Interested to know your thoughts on one.
I use to shoot green tag religiously when it was six bucks a hundred, years ago. I find now cci standard velocity shoots better even the cci sub sonic hollow point ammo is better.
This is right on par with the performance I've got out of the CCI Green Tag ammunition. I've given it plenty of opportunities. Four rifles and multiple lots of ammo. CCI can do better than this. For the price they are charging for Green Tag, it should be far more consistent, and more accurate.
For half that price CCI SV in my Vudoo & CZ does much better! Did you trouble getting the in & out of the mag well? It looked like you had jerk it out a couple of times? I like these kinds of videos. 👍
I like my Match Pro and my Match Pro ED. I got both on different one day sales directly from Bushnell. But those sales are probably gone forever as employee who provided one day sale code on Reddit was let go along with other employees as close some offices and move some work to other cities around the country as part of reorganization under Vista Outdoor who is selling off Federal, CCI, Remington ammo over to a Czech company.
Norma shoots good in my savage fvsr I don’t have have high end .22s I got a cheap wildcat I got for my son and my wife for plinking I can actually get almost as good groups with it as my savage mk2s
That CCI GT performed like it has any time I have tried. I don’t even consider it for any purpose anymore. The TAC 22 was disappointing. I have shot many bricks of it with excellent results, although the stuff I have has the older packaging. I have read reports from others that say the newer Tac 22 has lost its standing as a fine budget option.
That hasn't been my experience. I still buy the Tac-22 and stack it deep. I get far better results from it than any "budget" options. My MTR loves it. I get good results from Eley and SK as well, but the cost is considerably higher. Newer packs of Tac-22 regularly outperform SK standard plus and semi auto as well as Eley target, club, force and contact. But of course each lot and rifle is it's own thing. Maybe give it another try when you see a decent price?
Back in 1999 I started shooting Bullseye pistol. CCI-SV for practice and CCI Green Tag for matches were my go to. Life got in the way and stopped shooting competitively in 2003. In 2018 I got back into Bullseye. Went straight to CCI for ammo. I have no idea what happened to CCI in those 15 off years but it isn't good. Green Tag is no better than SV, and the quality of SV has fallen considerably. I have now settled on Norma TAC22 for practice and SK Pistol Match for competition.
Green Tag is more like Green Weenie. Old Tac must be better than the new stuff I still have a few bricks left and my local shop has some in stock. I just need to convince them it's not worth a hundred bucks a brick.
I own the worst shooting Vudoo 360 in Texas, I have tried every ammo many times, it has done best with RWS Rifle Match averaging .504 and with Norma Tac 22 avg .584 so I have a case of Tac 22. My rifle about every 8 to 12 shots throws a flyer with every ammo including Lapua Exact about 1 to 1.5 inches out of the group. My friend with a Bergara with those ammo avg .384 and .421 with no flyers and he refuses to trade guns with me even with me throwing in my Nightforce for his Arken, bad friend.
I get good results from Norma/RWS in my CZ MTR. The cheap TAC-22 often outperforms far more expensive options for me. I just run a Vortex Venom 5-25x56. I have an Arken on a Bergara BXR and it's definitely a good optic for the money, but I have to say that if it were me, I'd trade that bergara/Arken combo for your Vudoo/Nightforce. Though I have to say that I'm sorry that your Vudoo is inconsistent. Has to be frustrating paying that much for a top of the line rifle and topping it with a stellar optic and still have that happen. Any idea what the issue may be?
@@leftyo9589, yep. In theory, it's sorted/tested for tighter numbers, but it's literally the same ammo. I understand the market may not be such that it's worth it for CCI to develop and produce true match-grade ammo, but I still don't appreciate the "Green Tag" marketing BS. This stuff is priced in the Eley/Lapua range and there's simply no excuse for that.
The CCI green tag is interesting. It has had a bad reputation for decades now. Nearly all reviews say it is no good. For the money it should outperform their subsonic and standard velocity ammo but it does not. What is the problem? Does CCI think somehow the Green Tag is good or are they just selling a known bad product to the suckers willing to buy it for a premium price? Hard to say but seems like Remington was doing the same for decades too. Probably time they pull their heads out of their arses, swallow their pride, and do what is right for themselves and customers.
It really has. There isn't any match quality 22lr made in the US anymore. Green tag has been a joke for decades. It almost seems like rejected lots of CCI standard that is repackaged and jacked in price. I know it's obviously not match ammo, but CCI stingers are often wildly inconsistent.
....lol....I have found greentagissht....lol.....cci s.v. is better ime.....& norma tac 22 just alittle better, & unfortunately I missed how that lilja barrel does at its best so far, I'll have to find that video - Thanks fer sharing.
I actually was surprised when my new Tikka T1X got more 1 MOA groups than not with Federal Auto Match I bought at Walmart in Jan 2022. It also got consistent 5-round 0.8 to 1 MOA groups with three 50-round boxes of Federal Champion that I got at Walmart the same month. That was all the Champion ammo I could find in about 4 different Walmart locations. I think they dropped Champion so never got any more in store. None of the Champion I bought in 2023 online was any good--well past 1.3 MOA. I have a lot of Federal Auto Match I purchased in early 2022 but I don't know if any are from the same lot as the first box I tested in my Tikka T1X.
The best I can say with CCI Standard Velocity is I can get a good three round group but that is while I shoot a 5-round group. Typically I see at least one flier in each 5-round group. CCI Mini Mag groups at 50 yards were so bad I did not bother testing them at 100 yards.
green tag is junk. i bought some, it doesn't do as good as cci sv! atleast not in my rifle. i have yet to find anyone that likes it besides Plinkster... cci needs to rework that stuff, definately NOT worth the asking price, imho.

Sad to think the US used to make amazing match ammo. Wish FED would fire back up the machines and QA/QC to bring back UM1, 900 and 711 from the 90’s.
Question tho, which bolt knob is that on the MTR? Looking for a new one for my American.
It was made by a guy i found online a few years ago, hes stopped making them
Damn. I like it because it’s not overly large and DiP is taking forever to with a new batch of Executive knobs
That's what I'm talking about👍👍👍
Does Utah Airguns provide a discount code for your viewers? They have a scope in stock that I’ve had my eye on but waiting to buy.
CCI I find is ok minute of partridge ammo. For that price point, no thanks.
On another topic, have you been able to review a Victrix Venus pro rifle? Interested to know your thoughts on one.
I have not. Ive reached out to them but havent got anything set up yet.
Hit them up and tell them you want to see me test it
Try Cci standard, I’ve found it as good or better than green tag.
I love my Match Pro Ed
Do you have enough green tag left to test in another rifle?
I use to shoot green tag religiously when it was six bucks a hundred, years ago. I find now cci standard velocity shoots better even the cci sub sonic hollow point ammo is better.
Are you shooting at 50 or 100 yds Josh?
This is right on par with the performance I've got out of the CCI Green Tag ammunition. I've given it plenty of opportunities. Four rifles and multiple lots of ammo. CCI can do better than this. For the price they are charging for Green Tag, it should be far more consistent, and more accurate.
For half that price CCI SV in my Vudoo & CZ does much better!
Did you trouble getting the in & out of the mag well? It looked like you had jerk it out a couple of times?
I like these kinds of videos. 👍
The GM 10/22 barrel.
I love my match pro ed
My LGS has that tac-22 for $3.99/50rds .. cheap !
what trigger do you have?
CCI SV cannot go wrong for price.
Green tag is over 50 dollars in a Australia
Green Tag is more like Green Weenie. Old Tac must be better than the new stuff I still have a few bricks left and my local shop has some in stock. I just need to convince them it's not worth a hundred bucks a brick.
I still get good results from Tac-22, even in the new red packages. It's without a doubt the best cheap option in my MTR.
Hey in Australia we are paying $25.50 for 50 rounds! Thats not cheap! And weight the ammo first!
Thanks, still subbed.
Despite keyboard warriors singing the praises of CCI, I have yet to run a box that has done better than your green tag did today
I don’t shoot green tag. Just standard cci. But I’ve had all 5 shots at 50 yards touching out of my ruger precision.
Will that bottom metal fit 457 varmint?
Yup any 457
@@PursuitofAccuracy I might have to get that. It's hard to find the opening even just playing at the range.
I like tac for plinkin.
Please, CCI, develop some real match ammo!
I there an American made match ammo, that is really match?
Nope. 😡
green tag is just SV stuffed in a box with a higher price tag.
Thank you Josh and now I know not to try Green tag
Not bad if you're trying to hit the broad side of a very large barn. 🤷🏼♂️
For the money, green tag is highway robbery.
I have never seen the benefits of green tag in any gun
Norma alwsys shoots split groups
CCI Standard Velocity shoots better than the Green Tag in my 457.
My cz 455 likes Norma tac22. I have some Norma match the best I can tell it’s the same as tac22. No improvement on groups
cci green tag shot worse than cci SV on my stock cz MTR
I’m like a lot of other keyboard warriors as we were called better accuracy with CCI Standard vs Greentag.
....lol....I have found greentagissht....lol.....cci s.v. is better ime.....& norma tac 22 just alittle better, & unfortunately I missed how that lilja barrel does at its best so far, I'll have to find that video - Thanks fer sharing.
Don't make any excuses for green tag. During the /80s it shoot great. Then It went to poop. hasnt been right since then.
Pop can ammo
For us wal-mart commandos shoot some federal automatch at the end of the dissapointing ammo reviews :)
I have some rifles that love the automatch.
Green tag has always performed worse than CCI Standard out of multiple rifles. And it's more than double the price.
i had the same outcome with norma would not buy
Norma Tac-22 wasn't made to be match ammo, but for price it is great plinking ammo. It shoot near match in my Tikka T1x MTR.
CCI Corp should be ashamed. I’ve never heard anyone speak favorably about it
The best I can say with CCI Standard Velocity is I can get a good three round group but that is while I shoot a 5-round group. Typically I see at least one flier in each 5-round group. CCI Mini Mag groups at 50 yards were so bad I did not bother testing them at 100 yards.
Early!
CCI makes plinking ammo. Period. GT costs MORE than SK Rifle Match or LRM and there is absolutely no comparison in accuracy or consistency.
green tag is junk. i bought some, it doesn't do as good as cci sv! atleast not in my rifle. i have yet to find anyone that likes it besides Plinkster... cci needs to rework that stuff, definately NOT worth the asking price, imho.
Damn I shot better groups with the CCI target lol
Lol i have no doubt
