Ain’t gonna lie, this would’ve been cooler if it was darker, and yeah, sure the ratings would’ve been changed. Then again Kirby and the Forgotten land had a fear rating in it too because of a certain boss. Honestly I think Nintendo needs to take more risks like this,
I kinda feel that they either changed it due to story reasons (maybe order was actually a Tartar virus?), or they simply didn't want it to be too similar to Octo Expansion which was already quite dark as opposed to Side Order.
All this art is fantastic although a bit all over the plac, like this understanding prince? / Fantasy themed with Agent 8 having this very pretty brush sword, or this princely parallel cannon and the phantom of the Opera boss marina. But then upping the medical themes/ imagery, the parallel cannon concept art wearing hospitality gowns or the funky looking ink bottles seen in 5:35. I don't wanna be rude and think that from the beginning they didn't have any real idea for what Side order was going to be. Or is just like with most things related to Splat 3's release they got changed last minute ? For example early Eeltail Alley and Sorch Gorge, in the early trailers having a completely different layout. But based on the reasonings for why they did this " to not have complicated maps so players can remember them." I wouldn't be shocked if the complexity or darker themes seen in early Side Order concept art got scrapped due to being too much for players. Which left the devs to start all over again. No wonder the story was lacking and the game play feels detached from it until you unlock the dev logs talking about why repetition is important to learn/ relearn things. (As an explanation for the reuse of level maps)
Similar to Octo Expansion, they had some really cool ideas as well as unique bosses, but they were afraid of showing more of a slight darker tone, plenty of concepts im sure many would had enjoyed but man, I dont want to be like everyone but we definetly got robbed from the concept bosses of octo expansion and the story of side order, which is a shame.
I mean personally I think nintendo's reasoning for it is kinda... bs for a lack of better term. Like they got way with very dark subjects regarding being 'quite literally' lobotomized in octo expansion, even if they couldn't add in all of the stuff shown in the art book... they could've EASILY gotten away with more than what we were given.
Out of all the things that were shown…I got my guard caught being down seeing Pearl crippled, and reduced to being on a wheelchair. Legit- WHAT ON *EARTH* HAPPENED FOR _THAT_ TO OCCUR TO PEARL!?😰
I really wish they stuck to most of the ideas they had planned for this dlc. The contrast between the pristine whites and pastels with the sickly (almost oily) shades of black and green they had, would've been SO _SICK._ But then again, it does make sense for the aesthetic we got since Marina designed almost all of the memverse and the conciousness of multiple sanitized subjects were the ones that corrupted it, so it makes sense there weren't many spooky things present. If anything, I see these concepts working out if Tartar was actually the one that corrupted the memverse and not Smollusk/Order, which kinda makes me wonder if that was the intention at some point.
What makes me really salty about side order it's how the teaser seemed to hint at a really dark story, almost similar to octo expansion, only to then hit us with the fact that 88.8% of the darkness and edge was left in the concept art.
@@painterguy6469right? The original seemed much more of an internal journey of Agent 8 reflecting upon and facing a repressed/bleached memories of their upbringing as a manufactured asset within the octarian army as well as being a lab rat and the unintendedly sole survivor of 8,888 test subjects, Agent 8 has existential stuff to grapple with like themes of mortality, being treated as just a number or an expendable tool, or in other words seeing them and their peers have their entire lives and actions decided for them like they aren’t even alive at all, effectively robbing them of a life and rendering them dead. I think the concept arts anx trailer arts exemplify this not only with an emphasis on the inanimate, bony structures within the concept enemies but also with a complete lack of distinguishment to juxtapose Splatoon’s self expression and identity creation through fashion. I feel like for a family friendly brand they definitely had to tone it down but boy were they cooking with the original
@@painterguy6469 I'm gonna assume they made the first teaser when barely any progress was made on the actual DLC and they just assumed it'd be darker like the concepts... Either that or they just used some dark concept art to get the fandom stirring who knows
A few things I would’ve changed in side order - I wish the story was a little bit more cohesive and flowed better, as well as had a bit more depth. They focus a lot on the rougelite aspect which is awesome (has room for improvement going forward) but given the cinematic cutscenes and everything I wish the story flowed better - Maybe as neo agent 3 (your player character) you could find Marina’s secret lab and see her locked in there and she’s passed out in the floor with a VR teleportation device similar to what we see her wear, then that’s when you start to loose consciousness because you’re so close to the source that is draining the life of you, and all the people in inkopolis square. Then it transitions into the story that can still feature agent 8. The marketing campaign noted that Marina was missing, but maybe she was just hidden away in a place where no one could help her or find her. - the theme focused on order and Marina craving stability, and in doing so manifested an AI consciousness that had been realized, but fights the conscious to get the message across that change is inevitable and we have to learn to embrace it for better or for worse. I would’ve loved to see some flashbacks of Marina’s Memories, or Overlorder trying to boggle her down and pinpoint her insecurities to configure his goal. Instead of meaningful dialogue we just got puns and jokes which is nice but create a fruitful story first lmao. - lastly, the roguelite for a Splatoon game is beyond brilliant. This was a great start, but I’d love to have an endless mode maybe with more unique bosses and challenging floors. Maybe in a future game the order sector could make a comeback and it could showcase Marina’s initial plan for the Memverse. - another thing, the marketing was enticing, but I feel like the game didn’t live up to my expectations. It gave off peaceful vibes, but in an eerie and unnerving way. The world was so lifeless, hence the dead coral, and it had the opportunity to make an extended metaphor for what happens when you disturb the peace and rock the boat. This had the potential to be nightmare fuel! Overall, side order was cute and a great introduction of an innovative way to play Splatoon, but it has its flaws unfortunately 😭 I feel the same way about Return to the Mammalians as well, but it’s good for the most part!
The bald inklings represent test subjects. Represent avatar reborn. The robot prince represent royalty 👑 and somewhat alternative rival version of Pearl. Since she's called MC Princess. We could've seen male version of pearl or a new character! Also we might see some chess references. Like the knight. So it's like this. Pawn is bald inklings or octolings. Knight is one with sword and octoling looking knight. King represents the prince looking octoling. Queen represent maybe marina. Also I knew octolings and inklings can have ability to grow sizes! They can become giant! Just like Ruby Gillman! We know they have this power based on kraken power up but it's not big enough yet. Lastly seeing those concept art would've made a lot better than just roguelite. But in the end. Turf war is pretty much endlessly boring. I wish for different vibe and bigger adventures just like astro bot!
Also It be cool if the prince and fantasy theme would indicate the main plot or presentation for the story would be a musical or something which would be cool but tbh I'm reaching
To keep original rating? Nintendo, you've got a backstory to this game that literally goes this DARK, you could've gotten away with a dark side order story like this...
Never forget what they took from us…
Fr
It doesn’t even look that good compared to what we got. There are reasons some concepts don’t make it into the final game.
The Skull Helmet that Marina is wearing does give off that Daft Punk look which is extremely cool but I'm satisfied with what we got.
Looks more like Okarun from Dandadan with the teeth
