I bought my Pop a Ruger 10/22 for Christmas in 1966, I was 15 years old. I plopped down my $57 and all the salesman said was "you need shells with that?" AAHH...the good ol days. It's right here beside me as I write this.. Over 55 years old and still looks new. Pop took good care of his shit. RIP Pop.

British gun owner with 5 guns - Side by side 12g and Mossberg pump action 12g, 10/22 as in video except it's the Volquartsen version, and a cz 17hmr... Also have an Akkar/Chiappa triple barrel 20g. I think I have the right shotguns but a slightly better rifle choice possibly would be a 22 wmr semi auto and any 308...

I'm 63 years old and have been collecting firearms since I was 11 years old. At last count I own 194 handguns, 43 shotguns, 62 semiautomatic rifles not counting the 38 AK 47s, 24 bolt action rifles and 18 lever action rifles. I also own at the least 4,000 to 5,000 rounds of ammo for each and every one of the 379 weapons in my vault. And I'm still adding to it frequently. I hope you like my " five guns of choice ".

@@nandor8639 I think the problem is, he's getting most of his idea's from the shittastic NRA. Those god damn fudds don't want you to have suppressors or MG's because they're either the dopes who are still paying the 200$ tax on top of a $2000 pipe, for a literal gun muffler -- or they're the bird/deer hunters who think you don't need anything except a single shot bolt action or shotgun. I'm not gunna say that I have invested into oil filters or maglites, but I'm sure you probably know that solvents traps are a great way to clean your gun... The NRA didn't help us in the 90's and they haven't been helping in the last 10 years between Obama or Trump either. They had two full EASY years to pass the HPA and force national carry reciprocity and failed on both counts, and they're failing legislative action in about 10 states as well.

Great video for people unfamiliar with firearms. Love your suggestion for the .22 to introduce people to the sport. My five are as follows:
#1 RIFLE: Winchester Model 70 in .30-06 with a 3x9 scope. Classic rifle that can do almost anything you’d need to use a rifle for. Extremely capable with a skilled marksman.
    #2 SHOTGUN: Ruger Red Label
12 gauge. This is quite a bit more expensive than an autoloader, but a lot more fun. Autoloaders are fine for intimidation purposes, and they’re fine for trap, but a double barrel is much nicer for skeet. And, for the most fun you can legally have with a shotgun, try sporting clays! You definitely need a double barrel setup so you have two different chokes for your variable targets. I compare it to professional golf, but with a shotgun.
#3 PISTOL: Full size H&K USP in .45ACP. Simply put, the best there is. I’ll leave it at that.
#4 SEMI-AUTO RIFLE: Bushmaster XM-15 E2S Shorty Carbine in .223. No further explanation necessary
#5 WILDCARD: I have three suggestions:
First, a revolver. Smith & Wesson Model 686 .357 magnum with a 6” barrel. You can have fun shooting .38’s and then have a blast with the .357 magnum loads.
Second: a long range varmint gun. Remington Model 700 .22-250 with a. massive scope for spotting prairie dogs at 250+ yards. Flat shooting and more accurate than most people will ever be capable of shooting.
Third: A lcenter fire magnum. I opted for a Tikka M695 Master All Weather (the predecessor to the T3 which was created after Beretta acquired Tikka in the early 2000’s) in .300 Win Mag. This beast of a rifle, tipped with an extremely high quality 3x9 will allow you take any animal in North America. Skilled hunters have even used .300’s for the Big Five in Africa. I put a muzzle brake on mine to tame the incredible recoil.
There you have it. Everyone has there own list, but those are my suggestions. I own many other firearms, but these would be my base suggestions.
And, be sure to join the NRA, your home State’s club (like the CRPA in California) and a local shooting range. Support the sport!

Ultimately in an end of the world type situation you would want:
1 reliable handgun preferably a glock in 9mm with fmj for penetration such as through a door or crowd control. Hollowpoints are only necessary if youre worried about hitting someone behind the enemy.
      1. Medium to longer ranged rifle that you are ACCURATE with.
It generally takes 1 bullet to do the job, now your job is placement. With 7.62 by 39, you have enough force after penetrating through a door or drywall to kill whatever is behind it, whereas 556/223 you probably wont be shooting through things and still hitting with enough force to floor someone.
I would personally choose a cheap, yet moderately broken in pawn shop AK, and I would carefully inspect every part for wear/weak points before I decide its reliable enough.
A firearm is a tool intended for protection, and when it comes to your life or someone you care abouts life, you probably want the Snap-Ons of the protective tool section, the comfortability/familiarity with said weapon, and the respect/knowledge to use it.

A rifle is better at home protection, in particular a .223/ 5.56 caliber rifle. Having 30 rounds if Self defense ammo on tap is a definite plus as well as having decreased barrier penetration in comparison to 9mm or comparable handgun calibers.

    • @michaelmoran8780
      @michaelmoran8780 7 років тому +1

mike C You really need to study ballistics because you're way off when you say that a .223\5.56 round has less chance of over penetrating than a 9mm handgun cartridge. Let me give you an example, the average .223\5.56 round has roughly 3,000 feet per second of velocity at the muzzle and only about a couple hundred less at 100 yards, it also carries with it roughly 1200 ft\lbs of energy at the muzzle and still has roughly 1,000 ft\lbs at 100 yards. The average 9mm cartridge travels about 1100 fps at muzzle and 900 at 100 yards, the 9mm in terms of energy will usually have 325 ft\lbs at muzzle and only about 250 ft\lbs at 100 yards. Also, many 9mm rounds for self defense are hollow points to specifically avoid over penetrating the intended target, that is why it is the round of choice for many law enforcement departments. I am not trying to be hostile I'm only trying to give you correct information because I want you to know the correct information because God forbid you have a situation in which you must discharge your firearm to protect yourself, I want you to know what could happen with over penetrating the intended target so you may keep others safe.

    • @mikec8086
      @mikec8086 7 років тому +1

Michael Moran an increase in velocity does not always equal an increase in penetration. Maybe with steel core fmj but with proper fragmenting or expanding bullets more velocity will equal to more energy being dumped into a target than whats behind it.

    • @michaelmoran8780
      @michaelmoran8780 7 років тому

mike C Dude, I'm a frigging CNC machinist and have been shooting for 30+ years and reloading for about 10 years now, believe me the .223 and 5.56 rounds have way more penetrating ability than the 9mm round, even a +P FMJ round has not only way less velocity, but energy as well. Think about it, even a +P 9mmFMJ weighing 135 grains only has roughly a third of, not only the velocity but the energy as well. The shape of the projectile has to be accounted for as well, try and find a sharp tipped 9mm, you really can't. Now sometimes a flat or round slowly moving round can penetrate much material in say a bushy forest setting and a lighter faster round would be more easily redirected, such as a .223 compared to a 45-70, obviously the 45-70 is going to tear up all kinds of brush on it's way to the target, however the 45-70 is a rifle round and has energy the .223 or 5.56 round would envy if it could (roughly 2,800 at the muzzle) but comparison of handgun cartridges to rifle rounds is apples to oranges. The 9mm round or even the .45 +P can't even come close to the energy of the .223\5.56, even at 500 yards they have more than those handgun rounds have at the muzzle, again this is why law enforcement departments use handguns and shotguns for the most part, it is to avoid over penetrating the intended target. You can find all of this information online, just Google a ballistics chart or find it in one of the many UA-cam videos concerning this exact subject, have a nice day.

That’s awesome! I’ve only been into guns for about 2 years. I’m the only person in my family who considers it a hobby. I’ve bought a fair amount. My very first gun was a Taurus revolver, model 85. Great little snub nose, .38 special. Then I went out and bought a lever-action Winchester 94, .30-30. I had a bit of fun with that one. After that, I wanted a .22 pistol. Found a Sig Sauer 1911-22. Olive drab, with wood grips. Had U.S. etched into both sides. Cool as hell.
I ended up going to California for a few months. Wasn’t sure about the laws and such, didn’t want to get arrested for having something deemed illegal, that was legal for me in Michigan. So I sold the revolver and the Win. 94.
I came back to Michigan, back in May. I now have a Ruger American .22lr bolt-action. Remington 870 with wood furniture. Love the way it looks. A Ruger Security 9, 9mm 15+1 capacity. And a Glock 22, .40cal, 15+1 capacity. Only thing I’m missing from this specific list, is an AR/AK. And that will be coming soon.

So, Dad-in-Law orders a .22 Sears-branded single-shot rifle (Actually a Model 67 Winchester) for $7 (don't you wish still). Sears wrote back that it was sold out of that rifle, but was willing to sell the repeating version of the rifle for the same $7 (talk about customer service!). Would Dad be ok with that! Good all around selection, another thing to consider is the benefits of chosing a gun with a common or military caliber is the availability of ammunition. My wildcard would be a center-fire rifle in either .308 or 30.06 Springfield. A friend of mine was hunting in the border region of Khazikstan and they found a little shop that had very little in the way of ammo, some 7.62x54R, and sure enough, a box of 30.06 Springfield! He brought back a huge frickin ram that completed his Super Slam. In a pinch, if you have 5 round mags, you can hunt deer and pigs with the AK, the ballistics are very close to the 30-30 which has put more venison in the cooler, pound for pound, than any rifle in existence. Great video! 👍💪👍🤙

Pretty standard selection. I like to stay with common military ammo types. .22lr for small, a 5.56 or 7.62x39 intermediate, and .308/7.62x51 and 12 for shotgun.
The missing element here is a full size rifle. I like a savage .308 bolt action. I would also possibly interchange the ak for an FAL to have less ammo types to stock but then you lose intermediate and an fal is not cheap.
As for the .22 pistol - a ruger Mark IV is hard to beat. Not the spacegun thin tensioned barrel ones, the plain ones. Theyre a lot easier to take down than they used to be.
Adding a .308 bolt gun means you can take out anything in north america. Even a huge brown bear - although I wouldn't just WANT to.

I saw a video year back. A guy shot a Kodiak bear 18 times with a .30-06 and it kept coming. That's why I bought a .444 Marlin in 77'. Never trust a deer rifle for big game. Nothing less than a .375 Winchester Magnum.

@@peterbartolomeo9574 And a gentleman killed a charging brown bear within 30 feet with a 9mm single stack pistol too. That doesn't mean I want to rely on a 9mm if a bear is charging me.
I wouldn't take a .308 as my rifle of choice on a kodiak hunt, but I sure AF can kill a big ass bear with one if I have to. Especially if it's not charging me.

Yes - I have these guns nearly exact types of each of them. For a wild card gun I would pick a revolver possibly because semi-autos can jam if you don't have a good grip and platform while you are shooting. This is hard to do when in bed and compromised laying down. A revolver will always shoot and makes a good bed side companion (in addition to woods gun I hike with). Other than that I say yes. You've taken a good deal of time with thinking about the choices and my logic is nearly the exact same as yours all the way across on the East Coast. Your Coast NEEDS more people like you. Desperately.

For my .22 pistol, I got a Browning 1911-22. Mine is a scaled-down replica of the standard 1911 A1, about 85 percent of the original size. There are variants, such as a replica officers size and models with rails, skeleton triggers, etc. Its frame and slide are aircraft aluminum; a steel slide wouldn’t get very far with .22 ammunition. It’s not fussy about ammo. Unlike the GSG, it disassembles similarly to a regular 1911. It’s pricey for a .22, but it’s extremely well-made.

I sold my 10/22 years ago and I like them but .22 was hard to find at the time. Now it’s more plentiful but I decided against getting another and instead went for the Ruger PC 9mm Carbine which I LOVE. It’s such an awesome gun and 9mm Luger is just as cheap and far more plentiful than 9mm. It also takes all Glock magazines. I recommend it over the 10/22 because it also is a takedown which allows you to put it into a bag super easy if you have to. It’s such an awesome and well made gun and it’s based on the 10/22 but it has way heavier made parts like the bolt that’s made out of tungsten steel.
I also own the Ruger Mini-14 which shoots both .223 Remington and 5.56x45 nato which is awesome since I can use either ammo.
I also have a Glock 19 Gen4 9mm and a Ruger Lcp .380 that I use on occasion as a carry gun that works well. I got plenty of ammo for all of my guns and never have less that a thousand rounds at any time.

So we went to a gun show and got her a 1911 in 22LR. Went back to the range and we let her shoot my 22LR Rossi rifle and the pistol we got her. The way her face lit up was very satisfying. "This is FUN!!" By the end of the range session she was shooting the 9mm with 147gr rounds no problem. The 1911 trigger builds confidence in new shooters because it lends itself to greater accuracy. She was tearing the center out of the target first time she shot it. When we were leaving she was Googling where she could find the rifle I had!

Good video, but I disagree with you on one point: I'd always recommend a shotgun if you could have no other firearm. There are plenty of drawbacks, but shotguns are versatile, common and absolutely devastating at close range. You can also use slugs for targets as far out as 200 meters, though it's best for 100 meters or less. At close range, a shotgun can do more damage than an SMG, and slugs basically turn it into a high-powered rifle (a 12 gauge slug generates 3000 foot-pounds of energy, the same as any other high-power, medium bore rifle).
As far as the others go, you're absolutely right. A good semi-auto rifle and a sidearm are what you want for SHTF, although a shotgun as a primary is also a good choice.

A shotgun, and then go buy a large box of primers, a priming tool, and a tin of powder and wadding and you can shoot for a long time, just repack the shells you emptied, and fill them with gravel, cut up nails, anything you want. Ive seen people peen pennies into little bowl shapes to fit through the bore and they still penetrated completely through whatever he was shooting.
Be that the case, you could shoot powdered glass or literally anything. At that point its up to your imagination. Could cut ball berrings in half and fit 8 halfs in a 2 3/4 shell.

    • @thatguy22441
      @thatguy22441 2 роки тому

@@xxIONBOMBxx The problem with using gravel or nails (or anything like that) is they can damage your barrel. Lead is the best metal for that, but aluminum, brass or copper would work well.
There is also no shortage of good factory 12 gauge ammo out there. Even light birdshot can ruin someone's whole day at under about 20 feet. Even if he's farther away, the sound of being shot at would make most people think twice about sticking around.

I’m more comfortable with the 10/22 and the 19; I just got something I’m a little more intimidated by (I’m about to go to an outdoor range to shoot it) - Ruger American Predator 6.5 Creedmoor. I’ve signed up for a two-day General Rifle class soon. I also have a Glock 23 on order , and I took a very interesting Glock Armorer class. At some point, I’d like a Beretta PX4 Storm .45, but I want to be a better shooter.

The auto bolt release is definitely a plus, also an extended mag release I've got I believe it's from TimberCreak the XL release it stretches out under the trigger group while still following very closey the trigger guard I love it. 12 gauge yes but don't always count on the sound of cycling it to be your saving grace if you ever get in a situation, nice thing about certain manufacturers if you can get different barrels for that one 12 gauge so you can have that 18.5" for one thing and buy something like a 24" or a 28" for more hunting applications, a field barrel I believe is the right terminology.

    My recommended guns to own:
Start with a striker fired pistol in 9mm such as a Glock 19 or 48, Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 Compact or Shield Plus or a Sig Sauer P320 Compact or P365. Whatever you chose, wear it on your person any time you are not in the shower, a body of water or bed. When you are in bed have it next to you while you sleep. Along with the gun, you need a dedicated gun belt, an inside the waist band holster, about 1000 rounds of practice rounds to take to a multi day training course, 3 or more magazines and about 100 rounds of defense ammo. Shoot some of the defense ammo at training to make sure it cycles through the gun properly but keep enough left over to have all three magazines loaded when not training or practicing. Pistols make good home defense weapons but, not as good as a long gun. The pistol is sufficient for home defense while you are paying off your credit card after buying the gun (about 600), the holster (30-75), the gun belt (45 - 75), the practice ammo (350ish), the defense ammo (60 to 75) and training (550ish).
After the your credit card is paid off, start thinking about a long gun to replace the hand gun for home defense. My preference is a short barrel AR-15, in caliber 300 Blackout with a suppressor. Without the suppressor, firing an AR -15 in a home will leave you barely able to hear and communicate with family/police/etc.. I would also recommend a sling, a red dot optic and a rifle light so you can ID someone in the dark before shooting them. If you live in a state that does not allow suppressors, either move or keep good electric earmuffs near the AR-15. If your state does not allow AR-15's or similar semi automatic rifles, moving is sounding even better but if that is not an option, a 20 or 12 gauge shotgun is a good alternative. If you want the affordability of a pump shotgun, a Mossberg 500 or 590 is an excellent option. The Remington 870's used to be the gold standard but since Remington was bought out a decade or so ago, numerous accusations of dropping quality have been made so do some research or just get the Mossberg. Similar to the AR-15, keep some electric ear muffs near the shotgun. In the case of home defense, if you go the shotgun route, keep in mind shotguns have limited ammo capacity so you may want a side saddle with extra shells on it and possibly your striker fired pistol on your hip.
After getting the pistol and either type of long gun and you have trained with both, I would say you have everything you absolutely need but I agree with the video, us gun enthusiasts should always try to introduce new shooters to shooting to try to get rid of the ignorance and fear gun controllers try to spread about guns. No gun is better to introduce people to shooting than one chambered in .22. Do your research and see if you want a rifle like the 10/22 or a pistol, either is fine. Now I think you have everything you need.
Even though I have the short barrelled AR-15, I want to get a 12 gauge shotgun too. Mostly just because I like to shoot shotguns but also because the power of a shotgun. A bad guy behind cover which stops a handgun or AR could very well be penetrated by a slug from a shotgun. Shotguns can just be such a devastating weapon. Shotguns can also be used to harvest food after a natural disaster. Between birdshot, buckshot and slugs, just about every game in North America can be taken with a shotgun.
People in rural areas with flat land may find themself in an instance where and attacker is beyond the range of the handgun (75 yards or so) or the AR rifle (300 yards or so) and recommend you get a high powered rifle like the bolt action Remington 700 chambered in 6.5 Creedmore, 308 or 30-06 or a semi automatic chambered in 6.5 Creedmore or 308. High powered rifled chamber in those three calibers should be fine till about 600 yards or so. I also see the counter argument which says if an attacker is beyond 300 yards, is he really much of a threat? The high powered rifle can also be used in place of the shotgun to harvest large game.

    Five guns are:
    Semiautomatic pistol 9mm, .22, 5.7, etc.
    Shotgun 20 or 12 ga
    Rifle, any standard caliber
Last two are a 2nd rifle and a second pistol.
I own "6.5" as I can convert one to a different caliber/uses interchangeable parts.
I would up date the "generic" gun set to be:
    >9mm glock
    >AR15 with 25rd mag 16" 5.56 nato and an optic
    >AR10 with 20rd 20" variable zoom and bipod (SR25 cut)
    >12ga "combat" shot gun
    >an AR15 tricked out to be a breakdown PCC.
There are some things I would like to suggest as standard like suppressors, SBRs, and stocked pistols but not everyone agrees.

I'm a firm believer that everyone should own AT LEAST one gun, to be determined by their most likely needs. In my neck of the woods (literally woods) a pump shotgun is a perfect one gun to defend the home, or bag a deer. An urban dweller will want to prioritize self defense and so a handgun makes more sense. Someone living in the rural southwest or plains states may find a medium to long range rifle is their best option. then there's folks for whom budget constraints/physical limitations/ mastering the basics are paramount, and they will choose a 22 rifle.
Now none of this is to leave out the potential for future weapons, but simply from a standpoint of prioritizing, your first gun should be dictated by circumstances. To that end I suggest that if your first gun is a long gun the second should be a handgun, thereby giving you the most flexibility within a two gun budget. From there, you can pad out you gun case however you like.
I suppose to sum up, I would say everyone should own a handgun and a long gun determined by their own needs and abilities. Whatever else you buy is just added insurance against hard times.

Three guns are all that is necessary for any situation: personal defense, concealed carry, bugging out, shtf wrol . Bolt action high powe rifle capable of 1 inch groups or less, an ar15 in 556, and a Glock 29. Glock 29 is great for personal or home defense using a 4.6 inch add on barrel. For carry, use the shorter barrel. Also I have a 40 and a 357 sig barrel jic. I’ve also got an entire 22lr upper for it. Very modular. Next the ar in 556. It can shoot any of the 556 or 223 rounds. Plus it shoots 22lr very accurately with my cmmg 22lr kit. A lot of firepower with the 40 round clips and since it’s a 12.5 inch pistol, comes apart and fits in the pack easily. A high power bolt action for enemy engagement out to 800 yards. Which is where I’d rather engage my enemy. Cover, camouflage, concealment. I can destroy an enemy at long range without becoming a target myself. In fact, my current pack doesn’t even have an ar15 in it. It has a Chiappa 22 magnum foldup which weighs 2 pounds. And I’ve got semi auto firepower with the Glock. Shotgun is great for the homebase. Good video, but 3 firearms will get what you need

I agree with your choices for the most part, probably because I have all of those. However, for a wild card I would suggest a revolver instead of another semi-auto. A revolver is much simpler, safer and less intimidating for novice or beginner shooters. I would also prefer a revolver in a survival situation if the SHTF - more durable, no magazine to keep track of.

Solid list, I like all your choices, this type of collection is something I have already been working towards.
    1. I like my Glock, thank you, the grips designed for a single stack mag are just too thin for me, give me a nice double stack mag. Plus that means more bullets. Also I've never had a Stove Pipe with my Glock 19 or 30.
    2. I have a Henry Classic Lever Action .22, sure I can't mount a scope on it, but it works great; simple and reliable.
    3. Shotgun is on my wish list, haven't decided which gun to get, I'll look into what you're suggesting.
    4. Sorry, I'm going to get an AR-15 Style rifle, reason being it's probably the most prolific rifle on the market, finding ammo and gear/accessories will be easy, and I can still use it at indoor ranges.
    5. I guess my Henry can fill this role, since I bought it to just have fun with, it'll also be great for an introduction to shooting as well. Or I could put my Springfield Armories 1903 30-06 here, a good hunting rifle, decisions decisions.....

Great video ! I mostly agree with all your choices except for your number five. Yes I agree a 22 pistol is a nice thing to have but you absolutely need something that can reach out and touch someone or some thing at great distances . I would recommend the fifth gun be a high caliber scoped rifle that can shoot accurately at 800+ yards and pull down large game or shoot through car doors of roaming bands of hostile insurgeons, cartels, or gangs of criminals. And yes your AK recommendation was a good one a year ago but would also recommend that an AR platform would be a decent alternative due to ammunition cost, and availability. Training budgets do matter which is why you’re spot on with the 9 mm pistol recommendation. 45s and 40s have slightly more stopping power but not enough to make a difference when you’re able to pack five or six more rounds at a quarter of the price
