Without putting a clear coat of lacquer on the shell after buffing, it will just tarnish again, makes all the time and effort a little wasted.

You have any specific recommendations?

Rustoleum clear lacquer is good, but really any clear lacqer will do, it just stops air getting to the shell, and it's air that causes the tarnishing. Lacquering also helps to stop greasy fingers tarnishing the shel.
