Gary Moore filled in for an injured Brian Robertson with Thin Lizzy when they opened for Queen at the Santa Monica Civic. My gosh, what a performance, and I'll never forget their rendition of Still In Love With You.
Gary Moore the Belfast boy who played blues, hard rock, celtic rock & jazz rock. I am always proud to know that Northern Ireland gave us the great Gary & The Republic of Ireland gave us the mighty Rory Gallagher. Two gifted musicians who sadly passed too young.
I had the pleasure of seeing Gary with Thin Lizzy on the Black Rose tour at the Hammersmith Odean in London. Where he played Parisienne Walkways live with Phil Lynott on vocals. Still my most favorite live concert of all time.😎
GM's best solo.....didn't even have to think on this one....."Shapes of Things" from the album Victims of the Future. Best hard rock solo of the '80s IMO. Honorable mention would be the solo from the extended version of "Empty Rooms". Thanks, Pete.
#4 for me is Jimi Hendrix. I have no doubt that in a hundred years from now, the music of Jimi Hendrix will remain just as relevant as the day he wrote it. Favorites include: Purple Haze, Fire, Crosstown Traffic, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Spanish Castle Magic, and my all time fav song Little Wing.
Number 4 is Michael Schenker. The white flying V . Albums 1) Strangers in the night. Best live album in history . 2) Obsession . Killer riffs 3) lovedrive by scorpions. His leads make this a classic album. Song is Rock bottom live version . Followed closesly by the solo on the live version of This Kids. Nobody talks abt that one, but he shreds it on that solo.
4. Rory Gallagher When I saw him live in 1979, I thought he was the best guitar player that I had seen live. That was after I saw Winter, Blackmore, Iommi, Page, Townshend, West, Frampton, Howe, Barre & Lee & others. Now, all those guys were great, but Rory used all of the fretboard with slide and vibrato and string bending to an amazing extent. He didn’t dance around like on some videos…he just stood there with his foot on the monitor and just played. I was in awe…after the encore I got a full handshake from him…that was indeed the highlight of my concert career…That is …Until 1980 when I first saw Jeff Beck. Wow…I saw somebody better than Rory…I didn’t think that was possible at the time. (More on Beck to come). So I have followed Rory from Taste through his solo career. I first got Deuce (1971) and Live in Europe(1972) the latter which had the definitive version of “In Your Town” along with such stalwarts as “Messin’ With the Kid”, “Laundromat”, & “Bullfrog Blues”. Next I got the studio album Tattoo(1973) with fine tunes like “Cradle Rock”, “Livin’ Like a Trucker”, “Sleep on a Clothes Line”, “Who’s That Coming” & “A Million Miles Away”. Rory had a stable bass player named Gerry McAvoy with him for all of these records. Here he expanded to a foursome adding a keyboard player Lou Martin with drummer Rod de’Ath. Irish Tour ‘74(1974) was the ultimate Gallagher record at the time. Everybody I knew had this record. It was incredible. He performed in Ireland at a time of great turmoil. He also stretched out a few tunes such as “Walk on Hot Coals” & “Who’s That Coming” to over 10 minutes with fascinating solos. Photo-Finish(1978) Rory was back to a power trio with the aforementioned McAvoy and Ted McKenna on drums. Highlight songs are “Shin Kicker”, “Overnight Bag”, “Shadow Play”(with an awesome guitar solo), “Mississippi Sheiks” & “Fuel to the Fire”. Two albums high recommend are BBC Sessions(1999) & Beat Club Sessions(2010). Both of these offer wonderful live tunes. Rory was always better live !! My song is two: “Tattoo’d Lady” with Rory’s greatest solo. And the magnificent “A Million Miles Away” both from Irish Tour ‘74. “A Million Miles Away” is the best live song that Rory or frankly anybody else ever did. It’s emotional and atmospheric with the crowd gently clapping in unison. Rory picks guitar notes with a feel that’s so palatable that it gives me chills. His hands bend the notes so gracefully and he is one with his guitar. The solo has a great tone and seems drawn from his subconscious to a euphoria that I am falling short to explain. If you have never listened to Irish Tour ‘74, at least check out these two songs and see if my description holds up. My top four guitarists are the four best that I have ever heard. Unfortunately I only saw two of them live…and they are all gone now…..
@@gadgettheratboy9051Good point Gadget. I was being dramatic in my writing. I consider Beck and Gallagher equally great on guitar. Rory however was a fine singer, a great songwriter & a solid bandleader. Jeff sadly was none of those things.
Number 4. Randy Rhoads. One of the great "what ifs..." of music. What if Randy had've lived? What would he have been doing now? His recorded legacy is relatively small compared to most others, but those couple of studio albums he made with Ozzy show just what he was capable of. Solos on songs like Mr Crowley, Revelation (Mother Earth) and his riffs on Diary Of A Madman and Steal Away The Night still thrill all these years later.
# 4 is David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Laid back lead and rhythm guitarist who knows how to solo without breaking a sweat. Fantastic live performances. Words cannot describe David Gilmore. Sit back and relax when I listen to David’s guitar playing. My three albums are: Dark Side of the Moon (1973) Wish You Were Here (1975) Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) Solo performances I’m gonna cheat again. It’s a three-way tie: Welcome to the Machine Comfortably Numb Learning to Fly Cheers, Mike L 😎🇨🇦✌🏻🎸
No.4….Michael Schenker of UFO,Scorpions and his solo project.A fantastic guitarist with some of the best tone, riffs and insane solos. Lights Out was my favorite UFO song but his solo band in the early 80’s was his best guitar work.

#4 Gary Moore Corridors of Power Back on the streets Dirty Fingers So many brilliant moments. I took the easy pick (parisienne walkways) The live at Montreux Jazz Festival version (2010) HM: Flight of the snow Moose.
Todays pick : Edward Van Halen Albums : - Fair Warning - 1984 - Van Halen (note : despite having too many cover tunes, there are some fantastic original songs & solos on Diver Down. I'm only leaving it off because of all those covers) Song / solo : - Push Comes to Shove
Today my pick #4 is Alex Lifeson of Rush. Always love his playing and the tone, has so many killer riffs and solos it’s not easy. 3 albums I’m picking are 2112, Hemispheres, and Moving Pictures. Song imo is his best riff/solo is Working man from the first album, such a heavy song
Hi Pete. excellent choice in Gary Moore. Here is my pick for day 27. Pick # 4 - Jimmy Page - 3 albums - Led Zeppelin II - Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin 4 - Solo - Dazed and Confused ( Live)
4. Robin Trower (Procol Harum* / Robin Trower Band) LP's---- 1. For Earth Below 2. Bridge Of Sighs 3. Home* (HM's: Live! / Seven Moons w/ Jack Bruce). Song --- Gonna Be More Suspicious (HM's: The Fool & Me, Whisky Train*, Alethea, Shame The Devil and Crucifiction Lane*).
@@dannyhoeykens Thank you Danny. Some of his tracks with Procol are brilliant and really showcase his technique and style, like Wish Me Well, Juicy John Pink, Whaling Stories, About To Die, Repent Walpurges, The Devil Came From Kansas, and a handful of songs from their Broken Barricades album. Seems the deeper I dig into his music, the better it gets! Hope you have a fabulous day.
@@melaniethurber5117 Thank you Mel. Kelly's doing fine, slowly getting back into her aerobics and gymnastics class again. Kevin was here at the house last night with Chrissy visiting. Everyone says "HI MEL!!" Fantastic Mick Taylor pick this morning!
My pick for today is Carlos Santana. I love Santana's jazz fusion albums and all of my song picks are instrumentals that I really think show off his chops. Albums - Caravanserai (1972), Welcome (1973), Love Devotion Surrender(w/John McLaughlin) (1973) & Borboletta (1974) Songs - Waves Within, Flame Sky, Welcome, A Love Supreme & Promise of a Fisherman Pick 04 - Carlos Santana Pick 05 - Ritchie Blackmore Pick 06 - Jeff Beck Pick 07 - Tony Iommi Pick 08 - George Harrison Pick 09 - David Gilmour Pick 10 - Neil Young Pick 11 - Alvin Lee Pick 12 - Steve Howe Pick 13 - Martin Barre Pick 14 - Alex Lifeson Pick 15 - Jan Akkerman Pick 16 - John McLaughlin Pick 17 - Yngwie Malmsteen Pick 18 - Michael Schenker Pick 19 - Glen Tipton & K.K. Downing Pick 20 - Dave Murray & Adrian Smith Pick 21 - Johnny Winter Pick 22 - Leslie West Pick 23 - John Fogerty& Pick 24 - Albert King Pick 25 - Joe Walsh Pick 26 - Ted Nugent Pick 27 - Billy Gibbons Pick 28 - Duane Allman Pick 29 - Gary Rossington Pick 30 - Stevie Ray Vaughan
Super choices varying away from the norm Big fan of all that stuff to the only one I don't like is supernatural and I probably never will I own it but I just leave it probably collecting dust till after 10 years. Lol
Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. Terrific pick of yours. Gary left us way too soon. I particularly liked him in Colosseum II, who were brilliant live btw. My picks are now down to my 70s guitar heroes. Today it's JAN AKKERMAN, guitar wizard in Dutch band Focus, together with Thijs Van Leer (flute, keys). Loved Jan's mix of tasteful melodic playing, and ferocious jazz fusion. Albums (all Focus): Moving Waves (1971), Focus 3 (1972), Hamburger Concerto (1974). Tracks/ solos (can't limit it to one): Tommy, Hocus Pocus, Sylvia, Birth, P'S March.
Pick number 4. Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson two lead guitarists with Thin Lizzy. These two players combined created a major Tour de force with their exceptional guitar work. Coupled with Phil Lynott's songwriting skills Thin Lizzy were one of the most exciting bands ever. Albums.............. Jailbreak 1976 Johnny the Fox 1976 Bad Reputation 1977 Live and Dangerous 1978 Song(s) Cowboy Song Don't Believe a Word
@@keithjones7390 Excellent double choice, Keith. If I had considered guitar duos, these two would have probably made my list. For me, they were the classic Lizzy combination.
@@bryanbyrde8338 Thanks Bryan. It's getting close now to the end of the month. Debut albums in October! Well I've been having a count and have more than enough, probably suggest a few that nobody else will mention, just for fun, although l can guarantee it will be one l love if nobody else does! ☺ Cheers again.
@@keithjones7390 Good luck with those debut album selections, my friend. I won’t participate but I will keep a lookout for your slightly unexpected choices. 😆
Pick #4: Edward Van Halen Favorite albums: - Van Halen I (1978) - 5150 (1986) - F.U.C.K. (1991) Favorite Tracks: - 5150 - Feel Your Love Tonight - Pleasure Dome My picks so far: 4. Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen) 5. Slash (Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver) 6. Andy LaRocque (King Diamond) 7. Luca Turilli (Rhapsody) 8. Marty Friedman (Megadeth) 9. Kiko Louriero (Angra, Megadeth) 10. Alex Skolnick (Testament) 11. Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius) 12. Stevie Ray Vaughan 13. Prince 14. Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne, BLS, Pride & Glory) 15. Gary Holt (Exodus, Slayer) 16. Craig Locicero (Forbidden) 29. Randy Rhoads (Sodom) 30. James Root (Slipknot)
Today`s pick: Tony Iommi. Black Sabbath is one of my all time favorite bands due in large part to Tony`s playing. Albums: "Vol. 4", "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", "Heaven And Hell". Impossible to pick one song, but today I`ll go with "Snowblind" from "Vol. 4" and throw in an HM of the solos from "Lonely Is The Word" from "Heaven And Hell".
Todays pick is Mick Taylor. Favorite cds are Sticky Fingers. Get Your Ya Yas Out and Goats Head Soup. Favorite songs are Cant You Hear Me Knocking. Sway. Live version of Midnight Rambler. Silver Train and with Carla Olson Who Put The Sting In The Honeybee
My #27 Favorite guitarist is Jeff Beck. Favorite albums are Wired, Blow By Blow & Guitar Shop. Favorite songs are Love Is Green, Cause We've Ended As Lovers & Beck's Bolero.
My pick for today is Randy Rhoads of Ozzy Osbourne and Quiet Riot. I love Randy's melodic sense and classicaly tinged style of guitar playing. The tracks of the first two Ozzy Osbourne solo albums are likened to masterful orchestrations of "guitar conductor." (If that makes any sense - hard to put into words what I am thinking...) Many of these players may not be the most technical, but these are my favorites, the ones I enjoy listening to the most - although it was hard to keep out many of them, there are many players that I enjoy listening to just as much - but you can only pick 30 names. So, several of these would probably change at some point. No particular order, and while I love all these guitarists, but the starred (**) names are my most favorite. I've posted a couple favorite tracks (and some cases, albums or solos) of mine as well: 4. Randy Rhoads** - Ozzy Osbourne / Quiet Riot (Diary of a Madman / Goodbye to Romance) 5. Jimi Hendrix (Little Wing ; Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)) 6. Michael Schenker - UFO/MSG/Scorpoions (Lights Out ; Let it Roll) 7. Michael Wilton - Queensryche (Arrow of Time ; I Don't Believe in Love) 8. Mattias Jabs** - Scorpions (Make it Real ; Blackout) 9 Jake E. Lee - Badlands / Ozzy / Red Dragon Cartel (Winter's Call / Bark at the Moon) 10. Oz Fox - Stryper (Calling to You ; The Way) 11. Neil Giraldo - Pat Benatar / Benatar and Giraldo (Hell is for Children / Promises in the Dark) 12. Michael Sweet - Stryper (Calling to You ; Free) 13. Dave Murray - Iron Maiden (Still Life ; Run to the Hills) 14. Brian Robertson - Thin Lizzy (Emerald ; Don't Believe a Word) 15. Tommy Skeoh - Tesla (EZ Come EZ Go ; Lady Luck) 16. Scott Gorham - Thin Lizzy (The Cowboy Song ; Emerald) 17. Chris DeGarmo - Queensryche (Take Hold of the Flame ; Eyes of a Stranger) 18. Ritchie Blackmore - Deep Purple (Knockin' at Your Back Door ; Starstruck) 19. Michael Weikath - Helloween (Hey Lord! ; Halloween) 20. Martin Barre - Jethro Tull (Aqualung ; Dark Ages) 21. Frank Hannon - Tesla (Hang Tough ; Song and Emotion) 22. Billy Gibbons - ZZ Top (Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers ; Blue Jean Blues) 23. Vito Bratta - White Lion (Don't Give Up ; Little Fighter) 24. Paul Kossoff - Free (Walk in My Shadow ; Worry) 25. Warren DeMartini** - Ratt (The Morning After ; Way Kool Jr. 26. Gary Richrath - REO Speedwagon (Ridin' the Storm Out ; Roll With the Changes) 27. Rik Emmett - Triumph (Mind Games ; Lay It On the Line) 28. Edward Van Halen - Van Halen (Somebody Get Me a Doctor ; Ain't Talkin' Bout Love) 29. Jimmy Page - Led Zeppelin (Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You ; Stairway to Heaven) 30. Tony Iommi - Black Sabbath (Black Sabbath ; Heaven and Hell)
Today's pick is not my number one, but he's probably been the biggest influence on my own playing - George Lynch. My favorite albums are Under Lock and Key, Back for the Attack, and the first Lynch Mob album. Favorite solos are...there's a bunch, but I'll go with "Unchain the Night", "in my Dreams", and "When Darkness Calls".
I've loved Gary Moore since i first heard Victims of the Future back in HS. Somehow i never knew about these Colosseum 2 albums, thank you Pete, now i have new Gary Moore music to listen to.
My pick today is a guitarist who first came to prominence at the end of the 1960s and with his band established a style of music and distinctive guitar sound all his own. A mixture of blues, rock, jazz and Latin rhythms, the one and only CARLOS SANTANA. There is nobody can sound exactly like Carlos, like all great players he has an immediately identifiable style, so fluid and with that sweet tone. For me, one of the ultimate summer bands to listen to. Albums Santana S/T III Moonflower Solo For once I'm going to pick a cover, She's Not There from Moon flower. The Zombies original is great, of course, but this cover is also excellent and when Carlos 'explodes' in the solos, he shreds and owns the track.
If any Gary Moore fans haven’t seen it just type his name and Hold Onto Love 1984 into UA-cam. When I first heard the studio version it wasn’t my favourite, well it was a single so maybe that was part of it, but this version recorded for BBC Sight & Sound in Concert has a superb second solo which is unfortunately faded out on the studio recorded version. I listen to it loads ! 🇬🇧
DAY 4 EDDIE VAN HALEN- Hi Friends. Good to always see you and your comments. Great choice pete Gary Moore. Picked him for DAY 9. Well if you got see the late EVH and Van Halen you were lucky . The early Roth era days 78- 84. Or maybe even pre era Van Halen days before the debut setting album in 78 came out. I got to see them in 84 and was glad to see it. So killer thus the one thing they were the loudest with stacks of those large amps on stage. And big stage setup in the arena and so loud the air pressure from the speakers was intense on the chests of people as I had to pull back from on the floor close to mid range about to be comfortable standing. The band Autograph opened and had a short set of like 20 minutes maybe they had 30 minutes. They got booed as they played in front of the large black curtain that behind was VH's stage, I like the Autograph albums. as so misunderstood as to their rock sound and songs that are so good forgotten classics of the 80s that having like I do they are fine spins. Anyway the 3 albums yes have to go with the VAN HALEN debut. in 78. Hearing it then and having it had to have as have cd of it today, Had vinyls of VH and have one or two yet but not the debut on vinyl. Anyway Then 2 FAIR WARNING then 3 UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE both on CDS. A quick HM off VH debut thus the whole album is perfect so hard to be just honorable. that is ON FIRE. Killer. Course Eruption and so much more thus will pick 3 for one for each album of 3. Cause I want to be generous. Off VH 1 go with ATOMIC PUNK. The riffing is intense and soloing leads so stellar. Then off Fair Warning as different feel album rckin but great in it's own way and a classic. Will Go with UNCHAINED as enough said on the opening riffs and tones of EVH and killer leads. Playful singing by Roth and great track. Then off Unlawful Carnal Knowledge going with IN 'N' OUT which is so killer and just a beauty of brilliance and the chords and playing and shred and great lead slides and such. It's a lost gem I forgot was on this this may be a no 1 of the 3 . So and Sammy with singin is so fine for it. Miss you Eddie. Take care one and all and speak to ya all next times. Love and hugs and music. 🎶🎶🎸🤗🙏💖☮
The album Force It was a great one. High Flyer always hit a certain note with me. A true pioneer. Has been suggested he kinda perfected the shredding technique!
#4 Steve Hackett Favorite albums: Voyage of the Acolyte; Please don't touch; Spectral mornings Favorite solo: Every Day (the final three minutes are pure bliss)
Pick 4: Terry Kath Favourite Albums: 1) Chicago - VII (1974) 2) Chicago - CTA (1969) 3) Chicago - XI (1977) Favourite Solo: 1) 25 Or 6 To 4 (1970) 4) Terry Kath 5) David Sancious 6) Ginji Ogawa 7) Larry Carlton 8) Atsunobu Tamura 9) Duane Allman 10) Carlos Santana 11) Robben Ford 12) Lowell George 13) Brian Robertson 14) Reggie Lucas 15) Ian Moss 16) Mal Eastick 17) Yukinao Sano 18) Koichi Yabori 19) Bill Connors 20) Steve Howe 21) Paul Kossof 22) Kazumi Watanabe 23) Frank Zappa 24) John Scofield 25) Yuji Toriyama 26) Eddie Hazel 27) Mike Stern 28) Jeff Beck 29) Allan Holdsworth 30) Angus Young
4. Pete Townshend. 😃👍. Guitarist for The Who and solo. With his windmill playing and smashing the guitar, what is not to love for a punky teen? I just adore POWER CHORDS much more than most fancy long virtuoso solos! Three albums: (i) Tommy (1969), (ii) Who’s Next (1971) and (iii) Quadrophenia (1973). Song: “Pinball Wizard” from Tommy. Power Chords Deluxe! By now, you must know what I think of The Who! The only reasons that Pete is not #1 are my next three players. BTW, I made it through Hurricane Helene safely - just some clean up in the yard. I truly feel for those who are in pain or are suffering now as a result of this weather beast. ☹. I lived through Hurricane Andrew in Miami. Hey - Let's Go, Miami Hurricanes tonight! 🏈. Rock Always! - Heather

I remember when Out in the Fields was a minor hit ( in my part of the world at least ) and they played the video quite a lot on one of those video shows on TV at the time and most people who had never heard of Gary were saying holy crap who is that guy? Gary was not only an incredible guitarist but also a fantastic lead vocalist as well.
My pick #4 : Albums : " Portrait by Wes ";" Tequila" ; " Full House " by Wes Montgomery a great jazz guitarist of al time.Song picked /solo guitar : " Blue 'N' Boogie" by Wes Montgomery.

Hi people, pick #4 it is, and my main selection today is yet another double act that simply can't be separated. In fact, they've been inseparable since birth seeing as they're brothers and I am, yet again, claiming them as fellow Scots, as they're from Glasgow originally. If they want to be Australian, that's up to them. Angus and Malcolm Young of AC/DC I won't bang on about "first gig I ever went to" again, but by the time I saw them that night in 82 I had both of Brian's albums by then, and about half of Bon's. Angus just has to brush a fingernail over one string on that signature SG and you know it's him, and if there was a better rhythm guitarist in hard rock than the late, great Malcolm Young, then I'm struggling to name one... As for three albums that epitomise this wonderful sibling partnership, I'll go... Let There Be Rock Highway To Hell Back In Black Predictable? Maybe, but then AC/DC always were: predictably, reliably unique. As for a single track to highlight this chemistry I was tempted to pick my go-to DC number, Riff Raff for that killer build up and then that total ear worm of a riff, but just for variety I'll go for a song from the same album and say... "Sin City" from Powerage. I'm going in... Today's HM is an Irish guitarist, plucked from relative obscurity to stand alongside a vocal colossus, and the young man's brain must have exploded, given that said colossus' previous axe slinging partners went by the names of Iommi and Blackmore... Hey Iain -- fabulous picks, LP's and songs. Big fan of Angus and Malcolm -- both true Scotsmen 'til the end of time, and the brilliant, flawless guitar wizard Viv. Hope you have a terrific time on your weekend travels -- stay safe my friend.
@@iainhead9898 Great picks all round Iain. You're so right about Malcolm. I think he's the greatest specialist rhythm guitarist in rock. Angus of course is the great showman and figurehead of the band. I'm also a big fan of most of Viv's work with the likes of River dogs, Shadowking and Dio, perhaps less so with Def Leppard, but that doesn't detract from what a fine player he is.
#4 Steve Morse. favorite albums High Tension Wires, Unsung Heroes (Dixie Dregs), What If (Dixie Dregs). Favorite song: there are so many, two hands aren't enough to count them. But for argument's sake, let's just say "Cruise Control."

4. Neal Schon - My top four are all guitarists I’ve been listening to from early childhood, courtesy of my older siblings. I can remember hearing them play what I now know was Infinity when I was only 5 or 6 and being captivated by the sound of Neal’s guitar from the start, long before I was old enough to know why. Three album picks: Journey, Infinity, Untold Passion (Schon & Hammer). Favorite performance: “Of a Lifetime.” First track on your new band’s first album, that’s how you make a statement. My pick for Day 27 (#4 in my countdown) Carlos Santana Best Albums 1. Abraxas (1970) 2. Santana (1969) 3. Santana III (1971) Best song - Moonflower (1977)
My picks are in no specific order, but my pick on day 27 is truly one of the all time greatest guitar players. My pick today is no other than Eddie Van Halen. My three favorite riffs from him are Panama, Unchained and Ain´t Talkin ´Bout Love. Gary Moore was a really good guitar player, but he didn´t make my list just because I love some other guitar players even more.
Respect to the Late/Great Gary Moore. My pick today(#4 Guitarists' all-time): DAVE MENIKETTI. Fronting Y&T from the beginning. Dave had it all- blues licks, power, tone for days + a damn good singer! A band that should have been bigger but; the last remaining original member-Dave stands tall!!! My favorite solo, groove, riff? A song deeper in the bands catalog & overlooked: 21st Century. 🇺🇲 🎸🔥.
Gary is a superb pick I knew he was on your top 5, Im going with Fredik Akesson from Opeth I think an underated guitar player, going with Still Life, Blackwater Park and Morningrise ..Blackwater Park fave solo , but there is many
Today's pick is the one and only George Harrison. I will have 2 songs. 1 from his solo career and with the Beatles. The albums are Beatles 65, All Things Must Pass, and Let it Roll. (compilation) The songs are, I Feel Fine, and Marwa Blues.
4. David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) * The Wall (1979) * Animals (1977) * Wish You Were Here (1975) Song: Dogs 5. Alex Lifeson 6. Tony Iommi 7. Ritchie Blackmore 8. Jimmy Page 9. Dimebag Darrell 10. Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Back later for your choice. Personal pick today? Have to be brief as no internet/power due to Hurricane Helene passing by a bit to closely last night. So, Neil Schon, best known for being in the band Journey and apparently part of their current issues discussed in your video yesterday. Albums? Journey - just pick any three he is on. Song? No access to music library at the moment and the olds keeps my memory from recalling specific song titles but always liked the Departure album so would choose from there. Thanks, Pete.
@@melaniethurber5117 Apologies for several days late. Thanks, Melanie. Power & internet finally seem to be back up to stay. Back in the daily starting today Will have to catch up on your guitarist picks.
@@pjw5328 Several days late here but power/internet out until now. Many thanks for the good wishes. Considering how others fared, issues here were/are small. Thanks again!
Right choice...I particulary like his early '80 hard rock years and obviously the jazz rock he played with Colosseum II more than the T. Lizzy or Blues stuff. My favourite tracks are "Hiroshima" and "Hot gossip"....and the incredible "Hurricane" live with Ian Paice!
Alex Lifeson 2112 Hemispheres Moving Pictures Can UA-cam Pink Pop version of La Villa Strangiato, F.M. Broadcast of What You're Doing, Missouri '80 Jacob's Ladder, Manchester '80 Natural Science...
Today's pick is Trevor Rabin as much as I love his work with Yes it's his early solo work is where for me he totally shines his first 3 solo albums are a fantastic blend of hard rock, aor and prog and his 1989 masterpiece can't look away is his swan song
You are really great at picking the awesome guitarists in the music world and Gary Moore is a great pick and i think I'll also pick him also as well either as a solo performer or with a band he has been in several but he is a really great guitarist thanks again Pete.🎶🎶 🇬🇧🎸🎸🇬🇧

Good pick at #4 Pete, big fan of Gary Moore. Didn't start getting into him till his later years. The Definitive Monttreux collection , my favorite.. Still got the Blues, Parisienne Walkways, two Bangers.
Today's pick...Richard Forrest "Dickie" Betts. The sweetest tone and a brilliant writer as well. Just think about In Memory of Elizabeth Reed and Jessica as two of the greatest instrumentals of all time, both from Dickie.. However, its a toss between Pony Boy and Southbound as my favorite. Dickie Betts and Great Southern Live at Fillmore East Brothers and Sisters
Day 4 Superb pick Pete. My pick for today is: Mick Taylor As a Bluesbreakers with John Mayall 1 Crusade album 2 Bare Wires Album 3 Blues from Laurel Canyon Guitarist Mick Taylor Song “Oh Pretty Woman”
Gary Moore filled in for an injured Brian Robertson with Thin Lizzy when they opened for Queen at the Santa Monica Civic. My gosh, what a performance, and I'll never forget their rendition of Still In Love With You.
Gary recorded the original on Nightlife even though it became Robbo's signature song.
He revitalized music in the late 70's for me with Back on the Streets. Love this guy also.
4. Brian Robertson - Thin Lizzy, Motorhead, Wild Horses. Sadly after the Another Perfect Day album, he only recorded sporadically.
Excellent choice!
#4 - Jeff Beck
Solo:Causse We’ve Ended As Lovers
Album: Blow By Blow/ Wired
Legend
Perfect
Nice, Eric. The first song to come to mind when I think of JB. Dedicated to Roy Buchanan.
Sadly I think your wrong, to people born after 1990 he is isnt relevant and when our generation dies out he'll be forgotten
Great choices jim
Number 4 is Michael Schenker. The white flying V . Albums 1) Strangers in the night. Best live album in history . 2) Obsession . Killer riffs 3) lovedrive by scorpions. His leads make this a classic album. Song is Rock bottom live version . Followed closesly by the solo on the live version of This Kids. Nobody talks abt that one, but he shreds it on that solo.
4. Ritchie Blackmore
--Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow (Rainbow)
--Stormbringer (Deep Purple)
--Fires at Midnight (Blackmore's Night)
Song: "Mitzi Dupree"
4. Rory Gallagher
When I saw him live in 1979, I thought he was the best guitar player that I had seen live.
@@richardbooth6063 hi Richard. Fantastic picks and article. I like a lot of those names that you have mentioned.
@@melaniethurber5117Thanks Melanie !
Cool pick and write up Richard. I saw Beck and Rory as well, both in the 80's. Jeff was brilliant but I preferred Rory's style and technique.
@@gadgettheratboy9051Good point Gadget. I was being dramatic in my writing. I consider Beck and Gallagher equally great on guitar. Rory however was a fine singer, a great songwriter & a solid bandleader. Jeff sadly was none of those things.
Great picks richard and story its great to see other people have picked him. He deserves it.
My three albums are:
Dark Side of the Moon (1973)
Wish You Were Here (1975)
Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987)
Solo performances I’m gonna cheat again. It’s a three-way tie:
Welcome to the Machine
Comfortably Numb
Learning to Fly
Cheers,
Mike L 😎🇨🇦✌🏻🎸
Excellent pick, he's coming up for me.
@@peterb846 thanks always been one of my favourite guitar players.😎
4. David Gilmour (Pink Floyd, solo)
Pink Floyd - Animals
David Gilmour - David Gilmour
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Solo(s): Comfortably Numb
No.4….Michael Schenker of UFO,Scorpions and his solo project.A fantastic guitarist with some of the best tone, riffs and insane solos. Lights Out was my favorite UFO song but his solo band in the early 80’s was his best guitar work.

@@dennisstratton6508 hi Dennis. Are you swiping my picks today…… Lol… superb picks.
I've posted a couple favorite tracks (and some cases, albums or solos) of mine as well:
4. Randy Rhoads** - Ozzy Osbourne / Quiet Riot (Diary of a Madman / Goodbye to Romance)
5. Jimi Hendrix (Little Wing ; Voodoo Chile (Slight Return))
6. Michael Schenker - UFO/MSG/Scorpoions (Lights Out ; Let it Roll)
7. Michael Wilton - Queensryche (Arrow of Time ; I Don't Believe in Love)
8. Mattias Jabs** - Scorpions (Make it Real ; Blackout)
9 Jake E. Lee - Badlands / Ozzy / Red Dragon Cartel (Winter's Call / Bark at the Moon)
10. Oz Fox - Stryper (Calling to You ; The Way)
11. Neil Giraldo - Pat Benatar / Benatar and Giraldo (Hell is for Children / Promises in the Dark)
12. Michael Sweet - Stryper (Calling to You ; Free)
13. Dave Murray - Iron Maiden (Still Life ; Run to the Hills)
14. Brian Robertson - Thin Lizzy (Emerald ; Don't Believe a Word)
15. Tommy Skeoh - Tesla (EZ Come EZ Go ; Lady Luck)
16. Scott Gorham - Thin Lizzy (The Cowboy Song ; Emerald)
17. Chris DeGarmo - Queensryche (Take Hold of the Flame ; Eyes of a Stranger)
18. Ritchie Blackmore - Deep Purple (Knockin' at Your Back Door ; Starstruck)
19. Michael Weikath - Helloween (Hey Lord! ; Halloween)
20. Martin Barre - Jethro Tull (Aqualung ; Dark Ages)
21. Frank Hannon - Tesla (Hang Tough ; Song and Emotion)
22. Billy Gibbons - ZZ Top (Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers ; Blue Jean Blues)
23. Vito Bratta - White Lion (Don't Give Up ; Little Fighter)

Favourite performance: We'll Burn the Sky

For once I'm going to pick a cover, She's Not There from Moon flower. The Zombies original is great, of course, but this cover is also excellent and when Carlos 'explodes' in the solos, he shreds and owns the track.

Gary is a legend met him in Tenerife lovely guy sadly missed
Hi people, pick #4 it is, and my main selection today is yet another double act that simply can't be separated. In fact, they've been inseparable since birth seeing as they're brothers and I am, yet again, claiming them as fellow Scots, as they're from Glasgow originally. If they want to be Australian, that's up to them.
Angus and Malcolm Young of AC/DC
I won't bang on about "first gig I ever went to" again, but by the time I saw them that night in 82 I had both of Brian's albums by then, and about half of Bon's.
Let There Be Rock
Highway To Hell
Back In Black
Predictable?
Vivian Campbell of DIO, DEF LEPPARD, SHADOWKING, RIVERDOGS, LAST IN LINE and, before Dio, SWEET SAVAGE
He so nearly made my final 30, and to illustrate why, my song choices for Viv are:
DIO - Rainbow In The Dark
SHADOWKING - Don't Even Know I'm Alive
RIVERDOGS - Rain Rain
LAST IN LINE - Starmaker

@@iainhead9898 Great picks all round Iain. You're so right about Malcolm. I think he's the greatest specialist rhythm guitarist in rock. Angus of course is the great showman and figurehead of the band. I'm also a big fan of most of Viv's work with the likes of River dogs, Shadowking and Dio, perhaps less so with Def Leppard, but that doesn't detract from what a fine player he is.

@@johnmichaelwilliams6694 hi John. Fantastic picks. I hope everything gets better soon. Stay safe
Also my pick for today. Hope you’re well and safe down there!

Gary Moore was very big here in Sweden
Right choice...I particulary like his early '80 hard rock years and obviously the jazz rock he played with Colosseum II more than the T. Lizzy or Blues stuff.

Ace Frehley of KISS

Still got the Blues, Parisienne Walkways, two Bangers.
Today's pick...Richard Forrest "Dickie" Betts. The sweetest tone and a brilliant writer as well. Just think about In Memory of Elizabeth Reed and Jessica as two of the greatest instrumentals of all time, both from Dickie.. However, its a toss between Pony Boy and Southbound as my favorite.
