Blackmore will always be number one, even if his thing with Candice doesn't float my boat. His playing on Made In Japan alone justifies that place, it had such a profound effect on my life.
Frank Marino - Im going away, Stories of a hero, Tales of the unexpected, Young man Juggernaut........ The guy just crushes it with that powerful guitar tone and voice for days! Thank you Frank!
Todays pick : Jeff Beck Albums : - Wired - There and Back - You Had It Coming (I have to mention his rockabilly albums - Crazy Legs & Rock N Roll Party - another great side of his playing) Song / solo : (very hard to pick) - Ambitious (from Flash, a flawed album with amazing guitar).

Ritchie is my #1 based upon his massive volume of work and his longevity. I think he did his best soloing during the Munich gig in 1977. Stargazer and Catch the Rainbow solos are out of this world.

I am so Happy that we here in Sweden didn't have Rock Radio in the 70's so I never be tired of the old hardrock songs, I am 64 years old and still Listning the the great songs
No... but you had Agnetha Fältskog! I fell in love with this woman. I'm still in love with her to this day. You Swedes - Pat yourself on the back. ABBA was pretty damn popular, and still is.

My #2 pick was an American musician. He was the guitarist, keyboardist, backing vocalist and primary songwriter of the rock band Van Halen, which he founded with his brother Alex in 1972. I'm talking about Eddie (Edward) Van Halen. Van Halen is widely regarded as one of the greatest guitarists in rock history[2] and was well known for popularizing the tapping guitar technique, allowing rapid arpeggios to be played with two hands on the fretboard. Rolling Stone named Van Halen the 4th greatest guitarist of all time in its list of the “250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” in 2023.[3] Van Halen dealt with numerous health issues beginning in the 1990s. He died in October 2020 due to complications from throat cancer. Albums- Van Halen Fair Warning and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge Song- There was alot like I could Choose from him because his whole career had a lot of great solos like the the obvious choice Eruption(which I didn't pick) or is collaboration with Michael Jackson in Beat it or Human Beings featured in The Movie Twister (every time I see that scene and Human beings plays and Eddie starts playing I always think shit is about to hit the fan) but I'm going with a song off the album For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge I'm talking about Poundcake.Eddie Van Halen recalls that the song did not earn much of a reaction until producer Andy Johns suggested that he play the rhythm tracks with a 12-string guitar. Afterwards the band helped the composition of the song over the two electric 12-strings doubled beneath Eddie's usual dirty guitar. Regarding the guitar solo, Eddie said that "The solo goes four bars, another four bars, then two bars. Al kept insisting that it wasn't finished. He likes to count, and I never do. I'm strictly feel. I'm always screwing around with time, because I never count."[2] The solo also includes a handful of chords played relatively quietly in the background on keyboards, in the very middle of the solo. The song is in the key of E major, with the guitar solo in the key of F♯ minor, having a moderate rock common time tempo of 108 beats per minute. The song features Eddie Van Halen using a Makita 6012HD power drill in the introduction and during the guitar solo. According to Eddie, a guitar technician was operating one of these drills at 5150 Studios while he was playing, and the sound captured was akin to "kick starting your engine". Subsequently, Eddie painted a drill with the Frankenstrat stripes to use during concerts.
No.2…Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple and Rainbow. He has been in my top 3 guitarists of all time ever since I heard the song Burn in 1978-79. Never knew who played it or anything, but that riff and solo along with the keyboards, drums and singing blew my mind. Ritchie has great tone, his riffing and solos are insane. He’s a guitar god at its finest and was proud to see him in 1986.
Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. Superb pick of yours. Ritchie's still to come for me (what a giveaway!). My pick today is STEVE HOWE. An early guitar hero of mine, and The Yes Album, his first with the band, was one of the first albums I bought. Also saw him with Yes on this tour, and was amazed by his variety of styles, which he achieved back then using a range of foot pedals. Albums: Yes - The Yes Album (1971). Steve's styles include folk, jazz, rock and even the rockabilly of his solo favourite Clap. Yes - Relayer (1974). Steve adds masterful slide and flamenco to his repertoire. My second Yes gig on this tour. Asia - Asia (1982). Not really a fan of the band, but Steve effortlessly shifts gear to 80s AOR. Song /riff/solo: Ritual from Tales From Topographic Oceans. Steve pulls out all the stops, riffing and soloing, and also contributing instrumental passages linking the different sections. Dramatic stuff from a guitar master..
2. Duane Allman with Dickie Betts I wanted you to put these two guitarists together as they should be…the greatest duo to ever play together in my opinion. Duane is absolutely amazing on those slide guitar solos. He was sick and had a coricidin bottle and used that for his marvelous sounds. But he had the perfect foil in Dickie. They played off each other beautifully. And they were both instrumental in making rock history along with other members of The Allman Brothers Band. I have a cousin here with me this weekend who is four years older and saw Duane live more than once. Duane & Gregg as The Almond Joys played at Folly Beach in Charleston, SC. In maybe 1967 or 68. He saw ABB at the military college The Citadel in 1970. Now I was living in the same town at the time, but he didn’t take me to either of these shows. But he did take me to see Grand Funk Railroad in Charleston in November of ‘70. It would have been cool to have seen them just before the famous Fillmore East shows in New York. Live at Fillmore East(1971) is where Rock music hit its highest point for me. The debut album (1969) and the follow-up Idlewild South(1970) were great records full of wonderful blues rock. But nothing before was like the Fillmore appearance. The ABB jelled around the guitars and Gregg Allman’s singing and organ playing. Berry Oakley played a great bass guitar and Butch Trucks and Jai Jai Johnson laid down the rhythm on the drums. Butch also played the timpani drums to great effect on the dramatic finish of songs like “Whipping Post” & “Mountain Jam. The Fillmore East recordings were brilliantly edited. The tune “You Don’t Love Me” at about 19 minutes, was the beginning of one song and the finish of another. “Done Somebody Wrong”, “Statesboro Blues”, “Stormy Monday”, “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”, “Whipping Post” & “Mountain Jam” are definitive performances. Originally the Fillmore tunes were split between the live album and the next album Eat A Peach(1972) that was released after Duane’s tragic death from a motorcycle accident on October 29, 1971. This was a huge loss to the kind of music that the band had finally reached after years of struggle. But you can now get all these recordings on one CD. “Whipping Post” at more than 22 minutes is so astonishing. It starts with Duane introducing the song…somebody shouts “Whipping Post”…Duane says “You Guessed It” and Berry starts it with this ominous playing of his bass guitar. Duane has the first solo and it’s his best ever. He is so intense with perfect execution…Dickie has the second solo. Dickie plays lead for a large chunk of the middle of the song. Gregg’s organ is ever present; and his singing is raw and emotional. Near the end Duane solos and they bring in the tune “Frere Jackques” into the song. Duane strums loudly on the outro guitar solo as Gregg hauntingly sings of “dying on the whipping post”. The band comes to a crescendo in their playing with Butch pounding on the timpani drums. Duane closes it out with a flourish as the song ends with Butch still playing the kettle drums; snd you hear the first notes of “Mountain Jam”. “Whipping Post” to me is as far as rock music got on the road to the perfect song. There is nothing like it anywhere else. Indeed It’s the best I ever heard for sure. Duane was the leader of the band. Every song they did live was inspired by him. And Dickie provided the balance all the way…and beyond after Duane was gone. Duane said it all at the end of a monumental 35 minute “Mountain Jam”…”Berry Oakley, Dickie Betts, Butch Trucks, Jai Jai Johnson, Gregg Allman, I’m Duane Allman…Thank you”.

My No. 2 favorite guitarist of all time is the late, great Edward Van Halen. He bounded onto the scene at a time when he and his band were so needed! I was lucky enough at age 13-going-on-14 to get to see Van Halen in 1978, opening for the Doobie Brothers and the Rolling Stones. Everyone in my immediate vicinity was blown away by this new band and this little known guitar player! When the band left the stage, during the intermission before the Doobie Brothers began their set, everyone marveled and gushed about Van Halen. I was fortunate enough to see VH in 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981 and twice in 1982. 30. Joe Bonamassa 29. Dave Murray 28. Chris DeGarmo 27. Paul Chapman 26. Brian May 25. Ulrich “Uli Jon” Roth 24. Steve Morse 23. Tony MacAlpine 22. Alex Lifeson 21. Scott Gorham 20. Glen Campbell 19. Warren DiMartini 18. Richie Blackmore 17. Vivian Campbell 16. Eric Johnson 15. Neal Schon 14. Wolf Hoffman 13. Glen Tipton 12. Adrian Vandenberg 11. George Lynch 10. Matthias Jabs 9. Joe Satriani 8. Gary Moore 7. John Petrucci 6. Steve Vai 5. Yngwie Malmsteen 4. Michael Schenker 3. Randy Rhoads 2. Edward Van Halen
#2 Steve Hackett. I have been following Steve since I became a Genesis fan during the Trick of the Tail era. Favorite albums: Wind and Wuthering, Spectral Mornings, Seconds Out. For my favorite song, I could have easily picked 20 different ones! For now, I'll go with "Spectral Mornings" (the title track song)- seeing Hackett perform "Spectral Mornings" live is an awe-inspiring experience.
My pick for today (in no particular order) is Ted Nugent. Favourite albums: Ted Nugent (Uncle Ted's best album), Cat Scratch Fever and Double Live Gonzo. Favourite solos (among many): Snakeskin Cowboys and Motor City Madhouse.
I had Ted at #6. Ted definitely does not get the love he deserves, especially considering he was headlining stadiums in the 1970's, and is still kicking a$$ right now. People seem to not be able to get past his politics, which is stupid, because Ted is still making great music.
I knew you were going to pick Iommi instead of Blackmore for pick #1, Pete. 😊 Even though I also LOVE Blackmore ("A light in the Dark", "Gates of Babylon", "Lost in Hollywood", "Death Alley Driver"...) I agree with you that Iommi's career as a whole is much more consistent than Blackmore's. Here's my top 10 1 Tony Iommi 2 Ritchie Blackmore 3 Michael Schenker 4 Randy Rhoads 5 Gary Moore 6 Criss Oliva 7 Yngwie Malmsteen 8 John Petrucci 9 Steve Howe 10 Brian May I enjoyed this ranking a lot. Thanks Pete. 👏🏼👏🏼😉😉🤘🏼🤘🏼
my pick today is eddie van halen album / van halen 1 songs 1 eruption 2 im the one 3 light up the sky 4 mean street 5 unchained 6 hot for teacher 7 A.F.U. [naturally wired] 8 poundcake cheers
Pick number 2 Andrew Latimer singer/songwriter and guitarist with Camel. There was always the air of the 'underdog' with Camel when compared with their contemporaries such as Genesis and Yes etc. A little like Barclay James Harvest being dubbed with the title Poor Man's Moody Blues. Camel had a loyal and strong fan base though and l for one love their music, and in common with a lot of bands, its their earlier albums l enjoy the most. Albums............... Mirage 1974 The Snow Goose 1975 Moonmadness 1976 Song(s)................ Lunar Sea (from Moonmadness) Summer Lightning (from Breathless) Ice ( from I Can See Your House From Here)
Ritchie Blackmore will always be my #1, no matter how silly his current project is... Burn, Made In Japan, Rising. Fav perf: Child in Time (Made in Japan).
Hello Pete and everyone. In my opinion, today’s choice has played a significant role in shaping the development of rock music in this century, firstly as part of a duo and subsequently as a solo artist. I have chosen my favourite album and song from both chapters of his career, although he has also been a member of two other bands and collaborated with numerous other artists during the last 20 years: Jack White Favourite Albums / Songs - Elephant / Ball And Biscuit ; Blunderbuss / Lazaretto
@@keithjones7390 Thanks a lot, Keith. Yes, they had a basic guitar and drums format that was suited to their stripped back version of garage rock. Cheers my friend.
Pick #2: Could easily be a duo pick, but because of this guy's song writing prowess, ability on keyboards & @ times- ALL OUT, resonant, proggy excellence - KERRY LIVGREN of Kansas. No disrespect to Rich Williams;which might be the last guy standing in this pure American band.... When I hear the guitar output & songwriting skills that are thoughtful & powerful; come on-Kerry's did more in the seventies(alone) than most musicians just dream of! My favorite riff/solo??? Gonna go with a more obscure, later period track- Curtain of Iron.
My #29 Favorite guitarist is Randy Rhoads. He would've been much higher had he not been killed before he could make more music. Favorite albums are 1. Diary Of A Madman. His masterpiece. 2. Tribute. 3. Blizzard Of Oz. Favorite songs are 1. Diary Of A Madman. 2. Suicide Solution. 3. Over The Mountain. Gone way too soon.
Today's pick in no particular order is Jimi Hendrix. Best albums are Axis: Bold As Love, Are You Experienced and Electric Ladyland. Best song is "You've Got Me Floating". A sleeper Hendrix album for me is War Heroes. I have always loved this posthumous LP. "Highway Chile", "Tax Free" and "Stepping Stone" are some of the fine moments on War Heroes.
Yoke awesome . Hendrix the driver of music of all time. Yea War Heroes a fab gem of an album. I have the vinyl. And he was doing Tax Free in shows in 69. And some few things too of in 69 and early 70.
Here is a list of some of my favorite guitar players not in any order. Jimmy Page Jeff Beck Rod Price Michael Schenker Neal schon Gary Moore Bernie Marsden Rick Derringer Ronnie Montrose Ritchie Blackmore Tony Iommi Brian May Johnny Winter SRV Robben Ford Larry Carlton Nuno Bettencourt Warren Haynes Randy Rhoads Edward Van Halen John Sykes George Lynch Warren Demartin Doug Aldrich Jake E Lee Reb Beach Vince Gill Steve Lukather Pete Haycock Phil X Joe Satriani Eric Johnson.
My picks are in no particular order, but my pick on day 29 is one of my all time favorite guitar players. My pick on day 29 is Pete Townshend. He isn´t doing a lot of solos. Actually I don´t remember any Townshend solos at all. But he´s one of the best rhythm guitar players that have ever existed. The opening riff from Pinball Wizard is my favorite riff from him. He´s always serving the song. He´s never noodling aimlessly. Ritchie Blackmore made my list too. He´s Top Tier to me.
Pick #2: Dimebag Darrell Abbott Favorite Albums: - Far Beyond Driven - Vulgar Display of Power - The Great Southern Trendkill Favorite Tracks: - 25 Years - This Love - Floods My picks so far!: 2. Ritchie Blackmore is my #1. Technically maybe he’s not the best. But to my ears he’s the best sounding. He’s simply the best. Don’t know If I’d like him on a personal level had I met him. His work to me is the best. Made in Europe will floor you . 1975 Ritchie’s peak.
DAY 2-RITCHIE BLACKMORE =Deep Purple /Rainbow Hi Friends well today yes I have to cover Blackmore. As him being pivotal in my early collecting and hearing his work of music in DP. As to 3 albums as I love all the eras of DP and Rainbow well 3 albums of here 2 Deep Purple In Rock and Burn and for Rainbow Rising. And such great seeing Ritchie only with Rainbow. In 1976 and in 1978, Would have loved to have seen Deep Purple with him in the band as I was big fan OF DP. Saw Deep Purple in 76 with Tommy Bolin. Anyway So love the albums over the years. So and such many great songs I could name on the albums as great HMS Thus well I would go with not only Rainbow Rising with song as it is STARGAZER and always been pretty much ever since a fan of Blackmore and his playing and I will do one better of STARGAZER off the Castle Donnington album live where the solo transcends into space of sorts with Ritchie. On a whole different level . And Pete honored to be in sync of sort with pick today . Machine Head is an HM mention so love album and in a ranking it ranks high. Love the solo Pete picked. Forget about that one as have the DP album Anyway have a grand day and TC love and hugs and prayers . Alot needed for folks these days. Enjoy the music as it is a healer as well as many other things. 🎶🎶🎸🤗💖🙏☮. - 🧙♂ Look out for one another. B Well.
My pick # 2 : " Albums : " Let it Bleed " ; " Sticky Fingers " ; " Bare Wires " John Mayall's Bluesbreakers " by Mick Taylor.Song picked/solo guitar :"Brown Suger"by Mick Taylor
My nominations this month have not been in any particular order just really my favourite guitarists, however the top 2 would probably rank as my 2 favourites if I was to try and order them. My number 2 is guaranteed to make most SOT members list and I've already seen a few nominations for him today and there's been a steady amount of picks for him throughout the month. One of the most celebrated and seminal guitarists rock has produced, a great improviser, riff maker and soloist all combined with a history that dates back to session work in the 1960s (Oddly both my favourite players have that background). This man went on to help create and pioneer the heavy metal and hard rock sound with a much emulated but never equalled IMHO neo classical style. A perfectionist and a somewhat moody individual, who never seems to have been completely at ease with himself or his band mates. Created arguably the greatest of all rock riffs, RITCHIE BLACKMORE. I don't think I need say much more about 'the man in black' Fave Albums Deep Purple In Rock Machine Head Burn Rainbow Rising. Fave solo(s) The wild Hendrix like feedback drenched Speed King, the beautifully almost classical construct of Stargazer and the magnificent shredding but still richly melodic A Light In The Black oh and Highway Star is pretty cool too as is.... You get the picture. Fave Riffs Well you have to include Smoke On The Water Burn Man On A Silver Mountain Stargazer and a 'ton' of others.
My pick for today (no particular order)-Jimi Hendrix Are You Experienced? Axis: Bold as Love Electric Ladyland Favorite Guitar Performance-The Star-Spangled Banner at Woodstock
My # 2 pick is actually a dual of British guitar players from Judas Priest I’m talking about KK Downing and Glenn Tipton one couldn’t do it without the other a perfect match made in heaven. Twin guitarists at the very beginning of heavy metal back in the early 1970s. Their contributions to the metal scene has revolutionized what metal is today. You can call them early pioneers. But you can’t knock them. They’ve been around for over 55 years and still are at the forefront of heavy metal. Just picking three albums is tough. I’m gonna go with.: Sad Wings of Destiny (1976) Screaming for Vengeance (1982) Painkiller (1990) And out of the vast number of songs I tried to pick just one from the both of them but it’s hard: Saints in Hell: KK Downing Painkiller: Glenn Tipton Victim of Changes (Unleashed in the East) by both of the them live. Cheers, Mike L 😎🇨🇦✌🏻🤘🏻🎸🎸
@@mikelehmann6256 No doubt, Tipton was the better player and writer of the two. I wouldn't rate either of them in my Top Ten as individual guitarists; but as a rock guitar duo, I can't think of a better one. Gorham/Robertson? Murray/Smith? The guys from Wishbone Ash, Lizzy Borden, Icon, Racer X... all great players. As a duo Tipton & Downing set the pace.
Wonderful pick i think the album in Rock was the Birth of Heavy metal many people Say Tony Iommi is Better but Blackmore s tone with That Stratocaster is puré Bliss.🎸 My pick today Frank Marino another Riffs Master.
Pete you're dead on with this one, I feel the same way with one exception. For a solo, I'd say the live version of Mistreated from Rainbow's On Stage Live Album would be my pick. Richie was On FIRE that night due to just getting out of German Jail. We all know who the last pick tomorrow is, but I was wondering did I miss an episode or did Ace Frehley not make the top 30?
#2 - Steve Morse Solo: Cruise Missle Album: What If So much talent, great playing and writing! Dregs or solo, you need some Steve Morse in your collections!
Today's pick is Carlos Santana. The albums are, Abraxas, Zebop, and Best of Santana. The song is Black Magic Woman. Due respect to the original by Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac.

Ive been watching every show this month on your favorite guitar players so tomorrow could you do a quick recap, all 30 of them. I just have a hard time remembering all 30. that list was so close to my favorite 30 guitar players It was amazing.
#2 is one of the most underrated guitarists in rock history and I can't understand why: Lindsey Buckingham Favorite albums: Fleetwood Mac; Rumours; Tango in the Night Favorite solo: I'm so afraid (Fleetwood Mac live)
Ritchie is a awesome pick I knew you would have gim up there and he was on my top 10, but # 2 goes to you know who? Robin Trower going with Bridge of Sighs, Twice Removed and Foe Earth Below as my faves, though albums could change somedays...Fave solo on album is Benny Dancer, Best solo is Bridge of Sighs Live on The Beyond the MIst album.... Here it is ua-cam.com/video/zPacT9zVuT4/v-deo.html
#2…Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin. Like Steve Howe, equally adept on acoustic as well as electric guitar, and not just on LZ III. From his marvelous blues styling on You Shook Me, Since I’ve Been Loving You and others to the nostalgic solos on Ten Years Gone and Stairway to Heaven, to the emotional acoustic atmosphere of The Rain Song and That’s the Way, and to the visceral riffs of Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker , Immigrant Song and others, he’s easily the most versatile guitarist I know of. The 3 albums in order, Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin I and Led Zeppelin IV. Again, so many great solos and my favorite has always been on What is and What Should Never Be from LZ II. Unlike Hendrix, Jimmy managed to survive his drug addiction, but as Pete pointed out, he really hasn’t given us much since Led Zeppelin ended.
Hi Pete. I have a question which is about following month's debut album votings. Can we just vote for bands' and solo artists' debut albums, or can we also vote for solo debut albums of guys who already are members of a band and do solo albums during their time with the band? Or leave the band to go solo for the first time ? I guess a good example for what I mean is when Yes members all went solo for the first time after the "Relayer" album, before they continued with "Going For The One". As far as I know, everyone of the "Relayer" musicians had their solo debut back then. And, not to forget: What about bands or solo artists, which had just one single album?
My guess is that your number 1 is Tony Iommi. I could never get into Blackmore. Although he may not play the same notes, the tone and dynamics of his solos are the same. Like Yngwie, if youve heard 1 of his solos, youve heard all of his solos.
Today my pick #2 is Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, this was not easy to pick albums and songs, three albums are Led Zeppelin IV, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti. Song with the best riff/solo I always like the riff in the song remains the same the opening song on houses of the holy

My pick for today is Adrian Smith** of Iron Maiden / Psycho Motel / Bruce Dickinson. I love Adrian's bluesy rock and roll based metal playing. I love his sense of melody and how creates riffs and chord progressions. An outstanding all around musician and songwriter, who I think, while Steve Harris is the leader and glue to Iron Maiden, Adrian is so important to the bones of every song rhythmically. He is so diverse in his talents and one of my very favorites. Many of these players may not be the most technical, but these are my favorites, the ones I enjoy listening to the most - although it was hard to keep out many of them, there are many players that I enjoy listening to just as much - but you can only pick 30 names. So, several of these would probably change at some point. No particular order, and while I love all these guitarists, but the starred (**) names are my most favorite. I've posted a couple favorite tracks (and some cases, albums or solos) of mine as well: 2. Adrian Smith** - Iron Maiden / Psycho Motel / Bruce Dickinson (Stranger in a Strange Land ; 22 Acacia Avenue) 3. Ace Frehley** - KISS / Frehley's Comet / solo (Strange Ways / Fractured III) 4. Randy Rhoads** - Ozzy Osbourne / Quiet Riot (Diary of a Madman / Goodbye to Romance) 5. Jimi Hendrix (Little Wing ; Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)) 6. Michael Schenker - UFO/MSG/Scorpoions (Lights Out ; Let it Roll) 7. Michael Wilton - Queensryche (Arrow of Time ; I Don't Believe in Love) 8. Mattias Jabs** - Scorpions (Make it Real ; Blackout) 9 Jake E. Lee - Badlands / Ozzy / Red Dragon Cartel (Winter's Call / Bark at the Moon) 10. Oz Fox - Stryper (Calling to You ; The Way) 11. Neil Giraldo - Pat Benatar / Benatar and Giraldo (Hell is for Children / Promises in the Dark) 12. Michael Sweet - Stryper (Calling to You ; Free) 13. Dave Murray - Iron Maiden (Still Life ; Run to the Hills) 14. Brian Robertson - Thin Lizzy (Emerald ; Don't Believe a Word) 15. Tommy Skeoh - Tesla (EZ Come EZ Go ; Lady Luck) 16. 2. Geordie Walker. (1958 - 2023). 😃👍. Incredible guitarist from Killing Joke. His compelling and haunting playing has been met with widespread acclaim. Three albums: (i) Killing Joke debut (1980), Night Time (1985), and Brighter Than A Thousand Suns (1986). Song: “Love Like Blood” from Night Time. Cool video! 🔥. There is an interesting and somewhat disturbing musical documentary about Killing Joke, “The Death and Resurrection Show” (2020). It is available on UA-cam. Blackmore will always be number one, even if his thing with Candice doesn't float my boat. His playing on Made In Japan alone justifies that place, it had such a profound effect on my life.

Solo(s): Yes - Gates Of Delirium
His solo albums are also pretty damn good! Relayer is my favorite.
Terrific pick, Josh. Mine too.
Rolling Stone named Van Halen the 4th greatest guitarist of all time in its list of the “250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” in 2023.[3]
Van Halen dealt with numerous health issues beginning in the 1990s. He died in October 2020 due to complications from throat cancer.
Albums- Van Halen Fair Warning and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
Song- There was alot like I could Choose from him because his whole career had a lot of great solos like the the obvious choice Eruption(which I didn't pick) or is collaboration with Michael Jackson in Beat it or Human Beings featured in The Movie Twister (every time I see that scene and Human beings plays and Eddie starts playing I always think shit is about to hit the fan) but I'm going with a song off the album For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge I'm talking about Poundcake.Eddie Van Halen recalls that the song did not earn much of a reaction until producer Andy Johns suggested that he play the rhythm tracks with a 12-string guitar.
Saw Van Halen twice. Once with Hagar and once with Roth. This band was fantastic in concert. Killerr, killer, killer.
@@awesomeviper13 Great all around, you did good,Vipe!
For Blackmore I'm going with Rainbow's "Gates of Babylon"
I went with "Mitzi Dupree" for Blackmore. Love that song.
That’s the one for me too!
2. Alan Holdsworth. The legato king.
U.K. One Of A Kind, Metal Fatigue.
Solo: In The Dead Of Night
Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. Superb pick of yours. Ritchie's still to come for me (what a giveaway!). My pick today is STEVE HOWE. An early guitar hero of mine, and The Yes Album, his first with the band, was one of the first albums I bought. Also saw him with Yes on this tour, and was amazed by his variety of styles, which he achieved back then using a range of foot pedals.
Albums:
Yes - The Yes Album (1971).
Song /riff/solo:
Ritual from Tales From Topographic Oceans. Steve pulls out all the stops, riffing and soloing, and also contributing instrumental passages linking the different sections. Dramatic stuff from a guitar master..
This guy, single-handedly sucked me into full blown progressive! Always one of my favorites.
YES! He's One of the best songwriting guitarists for vocals, always came up with crazy sounds

@@gaiaeternal5131 hi Dave. Fantastic picks and article
Great pick Dave.
Very cool pick Dave! Nobody sounds like him. A true original!
2. Duane Allman with Dickie Betts
I wanted you to put these two guitarists together as they should be…the greatest duo to ever play together in my opinion.
Great choice!! Duane is my (joint) no 1 pick.

Hello Pete and everyone. In my opinion, today’s choice has played a significant role in shaping the development of rock music in this century, firstly as part of a duo and subsequently as a solo artist. I have chosen my favourite album and song from both chapters of his career, although he has also been a member of two other bands and collaborated with numerous other artists during the last 20 years:

Pick #2: Could easily be a duo pick, but because of this guy's song writing prowess, ability on keyboards & @ times- ALL OUT, resonant, proggy excellence - KERRY LIVGREN of Kansas. No disrespect to Rich Williams;which might be the last guy standing in this pure American band.... When I hear the guitar output & songwriting skills that are thoughtful & powerful; come on-Kerry's did more in the seventies(alone) than most musicians just dream of! My favorite riff/solo???
I don't think I need say much more about 'the man in black'

I’m gonna go with.:
Sad Wings of Destiny (1976)
Screaming for Vengeance (1982)
Painkiller (1990)
And out of the vast number of songs I tried to pick just one from the both of them but it’s hard:
Saints in Hell: KK Downing
Painkiller: Glenn Tipton
Victim of Changes (Unleashed in the East) by both of the them live.
Cheers,
Mike L 😎🇨🇦✌🏻🤘🏻🎸🎸
Probably the best guitar duo in rock history. Who is better?
@@acorn-yy1gi I tend to lean towards Glenn, but KK can hold his own too😎
@@mikelehmann6256 No doubt, Tipton was the better player and writer of the two.

Jeff Beck
I just listened to the Burn album, some songs for the 1st time - Richie Blackmore is on Fire!!!!

100% the same feeling s as Pete. Blackmore my favourite since 1981. Iommi now No 1
Today my pick #2 is Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, this was not easy to pick albums and songs, three albums are Led Zeppelin IV, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti. Song with the best riff/solo I always like the riff in the song remains the same the opening song on houses of the holy

Great pick, Mr. Blackmore would be my #2 as well.
I've posted a couple favorite tracks (and some cases, albums or solos) of mine as well:
2. Adrian Smith** - Iron Maiden / Psycho Motel / Bruce Dickinson (Stranger in a Strange Land ; 22 Acacia Avenue)

Jimmy Page makes an ever-intriguing appearance in the film. We all miss Geordie Walker! 😢. Have a fabulous NFL Sunday! 🏈. Rock Always! - Heather
