There is a theory that Dio's true stand power wasn't to stop time, but instead use the powers of any existing joestars. during part three Joseph Jotaro and Josuke are the main ones. in part three Dio shows off the using vines like Hermit Purple to scry and stopping time same as we found Star Platinum can do. With Josuke being alive than that could explain how Dio fixed Pucci's foot. Bálint Kristóf well it would make sense that if we're going to treat this theory as true, his power works off his stolen Joestar blood. Though I'm sure his obsession shaped the ability. Especially since its stated or at least implied that it's Dio that caused Jotaro and Holly's stands. So without being fused with Jonathan I think he would be a different stand.

Original DIO didn't have his stand for over a hundred years... he was trapped at the bottom of the sea for most of those years, and it was only within a year of the events of Stardust Crusaders that he was pierced with the arrow. I know DIO isn't the main focus of the matchup but it's still something to note =)
Ah. Well, that version of Kira isn't very fleshed out as a character, and the only fight they've shown him in so far, he lost.... BADLY. And since he's dead, I can't imagine him getting anymore battles or screentime, even in flashbacks.

Also, when Diego is a dinosaur, he can only see living things. Dio can lower his blood temperature to the point where he would no longer be detected. That puts Diego at a big disadvantage. But then again, I really don't understand when he got the ability to see things normally again. Because even when he was still human, he couldn't see the cup Johnny had out for him. Yet everything was fine after that.

Diego could win if he turned the fight into a war of attrition, but if it was a straight fight, he'd probably lose. It'd depend on the type of combat that they'd undergo, and where they were. Dio in England with plenty of buildings and castles to hide from the sun in would be good, but on the Steel Ball Run in the middle of nowhere? Yeah, Dio's in trouble.
I'd say Diego does have better chances than you give him credit and personally, I'd say this is a stalemate. Firstly, Dio does have 1 additional weakness alongside sunlight. Getting his brains bashed in. That was mentioned by Joseph as another method by which a vampire could be killed and this worked against Zombies very well, as Jonathan could do it to Dio's zombies in the mansion. Granted, considering Dio's brain was shot and bisected during Phantom Blood, you would need to utterly crush the brain, but Diego's dinosaur-strength could more than likely pull it off. Dio is also not entirely invulnerable. It did seem that the fires of the Joestar mansion were able to severely wound Dio and the zombies created by the Stone mask in Battle tendency would be destroyed by Whamuu and Kars without the use of Hamon as well. Diego might not be strong enough, but it's possible. Another aspect to consider is Diego's infection opposed to Dio's zombies. It seems that in order to become a Zombie, Dio needs to suck the person dry. It doesn't just happen with a scratch like with Diego. Otherwise, Dio would have become the zombie minion of the drunken idiot in the streets and Jonathan would've become a zombie thanks to Bruford. So Dio can't really risk taking Diego head-on, because if he gets that scratch in, Dio is going to be in quite a hurry to finish the fight before he completes his transformation and is vulnerable for Diego to just kill him while he can't retaliate, completely under Diego's control.

You have to be near Diego to kill him though. To kill Dio, you really wouldn't need to be nearby. Diego could just assault Dio with a dinosaur army during the day and Dio couldn't escape without dying. But If Dio did the same with his zombies, Diego could just escape without any consequences.
It's also worth mentioning that Dio can freeze anyone he touches near instantaneously, and dinosaurs, being reptiles, which are cold-blooded, would probably get pretty fucked up by that.

Honestly, Diego has this one in the bag. He just has to touch him once to win. Unlike Diego, Dio has to infect you to turn you into a zombie. Diego can just touch you and your done. Diego can also summon monsters at will unlike Dio. It will definitely be competitive since Dio can kill him in one blow as well because of his freezing. In conclusion, Diego wins with mid-high difficulty

You know, after this match up I'm kinda curious about how Part 1 Vampire Dio would fare against some Stand Users with abilities similar to his. Something like Dio vs Pet Shop (ice battle). Also, I would like to see Part 3 Joseph vs Gyro Zeppeli with Scan, since they are the only two characters in the whole series with both a Stand and another technique in the form of Hamon and the Spin respectively.
Dio only had his stand for 6 months and he was only able to use (approximately) 10 seconds after he got joseph's Joestar blood. He just had a lot of training and probably liked to use his stand whenever he wanted
Dio is like the best villain he was there in the beginning and even after dying he still continues. to influence the world through his followers and children
Even though they have the same stand, I think alternate universe Diego would beat part 3 Dio because his mortality meant he was much less arrogant and overconfident than his vampiric counterpart, which was a large part of Dio’s loss to Jotaro.

With Josuke being alive than that could explain how Dio fixed Pucci's foot. Original DIO didn't have his stand for over a hundred years... he was trapped at the bottom of the sea for most of those years, and it was only within a year of the events of Stardust Crusaders that he was pierced with the arrow. I know DIO isn't the main focus of the matchup but it's still something to note =)

If anything is clear by now, it's that Thoth will lead Boingo right to his inevitable defeat. He may initially appear to be doing well, but he'll probably misinterpret a panel here, or a page there, and get a King Crimson judo chop to the back of the head for his trouble.

Diego could win if he turned the fight into a war of attrition, but if it was a straight fight, he'd probably lose. It'd depend on the type of combat that they'd undergo, and where they were. Dio in England with plenty of buildings and castles to hide from the sun in would be good, but on the Steel Ball Run in the middle of nowhere? Yeah, Dio's in trouble.
I'd say Diego does have better chances than you give him credit and personally, I'd say this is a stalemate. Firstly, Dio does have 1 additional weakness alongside sunlight. Getting his brains bashed in. That was mentioned by Joseph as another method by which a vampire could be killed and this worked against Zombies very well, as Jonathan could do it to Dio's zombies in the mansion. Granted, considering Dio's brain was shot and bisected during Phantom Blood, you would need to utterly crush the brain, but Diego's dinosaur-strength could more than likely pull it off. Dio is also not entirely invulnerable. It did seem that the fires of the Joestar mansion were able to severely wound Dio and the zombies created by the Stone mask in Battle tendency would be destroyed by Whamuu and Kars without the use of Hamon as well. Diego might not be strong enough, but it's possible.
Another aspect to consider is Diego's infection opposed to Dio's zombies. It seems that in order to become a Zombie, Dio needs to suck the person dry. It doesn't just happen with a scratch like with Diego. Otherwise, Dio would have become the zombie minion of the drunken idiot in the streets and Jonathan would've become a zombie thanks to Bruford. So Dio can't really risk taking Diego head-on, because if he gets that scratch in, Dio is going to be in quite a hurry to finish the fight before he completes his transformation and is vulnerable for Diego to just kill him while he can't retaliate, completely under Diego's control.

Diego can also summon monsters at will unlike Dio. It will definitely be competitive since Dio can kill him in one blow as well because of his freezing.

Dio only had his stand for 6 months and he was only able to use (approximately) 10 seconds after he got joseph's Joestar blood. He just had a lot of training and probably liked to use his stand whenever he wanted
Dio is like the best villain he was there in the beginning and even after dying he still continues. to influence the world through his followers and children

Even though they have the same stand, I think alternate universe Diego would beat part 3 Dio because his mortality meant he was much less arrogant and overconfident than his vampiric counterpart, which was a large part of Dio’s loss to Jotaro.
He was still arrogant and overconfident though. He lost to Lucy after all.
