    Dr. Matthew Fitzer is clearly the best bariatric surgeon out there. He has compassion and understanding for his patients. I am thrilled to begin working with Dr. Fitzer to get my life back!

    Wow, that was actually a great video! When I saw how long it was, I was concerned but Dr. Fitzer is dynamic and gave so many great examples that he not only kept my attention the whole time, but also relieved my anxiety about possibly getting this surgery. Thanks for that!!! 🤗

    Great video. Thank you for explaining that there's more to succeeding with bariatric surgery than relying on restriction and malabsorbtion.

    Excellent video- one of the most helpful I have seen out there! It's long but it's worth it especially 1:10 to 1:25. Thank you so much for taking the time to go through all the examples that you do. It's easy to connect with all those cases you speak of, or the visits of patients that don't lose a lot of weight and you do the purse search and here comes your answer. Eye opening! Thank you!

    Thank you for doing this. I'm having the gastric sleeve surgery in 4 days. I have been given the after-surgery eating plan outline....but...none of the reasons why this is important. I thought that drinking with a meal was discouraged as it fills up the pouch not allowing room for the nutritious solid food. You have given me the tools and the knowledge that I will need to succeed!! Also, my doubts, about whether the surgery is really necessary, have now been replaced with facts that tell me that losing weight on my own will NEVER be a reality. You have made me feel very confident going forward with surgery. Thank you so much!!!

    I had an apt. today with a weight loss center. They told me I have to loose 73 lbs with diet and exercise. I have hypertension, border line diabetes and fat liver. After having 2 kids I feel like it's super hard to loose weight, I feel depressed and got anxiety issues. I'm a complete mess right now.😔. I can't wait to see dr. Fitzer for my first appointment, unfortunately he's booked and won't be able to see me before April. 😔😖

    My tiny angry tummy refuses to allow any messing around. I eat something too fatty or sugary or spicy or overeat...woooooooooooooooooo I experience traumatic consequences. So I must eat lean protein...slowly and carefully only. Anything else is sooooo not worth it. My tiny tummy doesn't fool around. It makes me pay. I've learned my lesson. I'm terrified of angering the tiny dictator...

      @@rmhow1 Hi there. Surgery went well thank God. I'm not gonna lie the first 2 days were so painful for me. b I had a big hernia and the doctor repaired it at the surgery. So that's why it was more pain for me, but by the third day the pain decreased a lot and since then everything was really good. I feel really good. I'm doing really good with my vitamins the only issue for me is the water,but I'm working on it. He is such a good doctor . My healing process is being so good. My best wishes for you and your surgery.

    1 rule for delivering information on UA-cam. Fantastic information will be ignored if it’s hard to listen to.
    1. Run a noise reduction audio program to reduce the background noise. This will help you retain your viewers.
    Great information, why not make it easier for people to listen to. Thanks for listening.

    • @virginiabariatricsurgeryce114

      True enough, but revision surgery is a fairly complex subject. I probably need another 90 minutes to just talk about the general situations in which folks can (and sometimes cannot) benefit from revision. That is a good idea for my next video. For now, I handle revision discussions one at a time in the office.

    What can happen if you are instructed to do a 2 day clear fluid diet right before a bypass surgery but you get busy visiting with friends & end up eating lunch with them the 1st day of that final 2 days before surgery? How can that affect your bypass surgery??

    • @virginiabariatricsurgeryce114
      @virginiabariatricsurgeryce114  8 місяців тому +1

      It's probably okay. The two instances I can think of where it may not be okay are: (1) You had difficulty meeting a weight-loss goal related to large liver size, or (2) There is reason to believe that you may have gastroparesis.
      As for (1), sometimes I ask someone to lose weight before surgery because it will not be physically possible to do the surgery without the weight loss. If they are close to the line, I may give them special instructions to really be saint-like in sticking to the clear liquid diet, because doing so may shrink the liver enough to make an important difference.
      If your doc thinks you have slow stomach emptying (gastroparesis), they might want you to adhere to the clear liquid diet to give the stomach time to pass any fibrous contents out before surgery. Ensuring the stomach isn't full of something fibrous (for example, kale) is important, because fibrous stuff can cause the staplers we use to misfire.
      I'd recommend just telling your surgeon, who definitely won't cancel you because of an innocent, forthrightly admitted mistake. If it might matter, you want to know about it.

    Rule 2 doesn’t make sense to me. If we chew all our food to a purée like we are supposed to then wouldn’t it ALL be “squishy food”?

    • @virginiabariatricsurgeryce114
      @virginiabariatricsurgeryce114  3 роки тому +8

      You have asked an insightful question about proper bariatric eating. I do not, in fact, advise people to chew food to puree. Bariatric patients very definitely can over-chew, and doing so works against the purpose of getting one of these operations, which is to feel an oversized feeling of fullness from a small amount of food.
      In general, the opposite is true: The less chewing the better. Those few Jedi-masters of bariatric eating technique who actually can generate whole-meal satisfaction with four bites of food do it carefully by swallowing them more or less whole. (I am not saying you should try to learn how to do it; nobody can live off of three four-bite meals per day.)
      The only time I recommend chewing for a long time is when someone is having trouble learning to eating slowly. Patience is the key to bariatric eating. If someone keeps having pain or an unbearable "stuck bread" feeling because their pace is too fast, asking them to chew forty times will slow them down enough to put an end to that. My hope is that by having them do that, I can help them avoid the really dire overfilling episodes that tend provoke long-term maladaptive eating behaviors like food aversions and drinking between bites. Then maybe, if that patient drifts into a time in their life where they have time to pay more attention to eating technique, they will be able to learn it without the baggage of established solid food aversions, etc. (It's a little complicated, but you get the idea.)
