It's challenging to create a no butter, and low fat recipe like this, so, I appreciate you sharing these healthy recipes, and the inclusion of health oriented recipes besides some once in a while high cal feast (especially near the holidays). Thank you for this video, Chef Buck, Camera Girl, and family! Take care and stay safe :)
oh, I have so many unhealthy recipes it's really ridiculous...it's funny how CG and I balance our diets between the best and worst and somewhat-not-as-bad dietary choices. Eating as a hobby leaves a lot of room between healthy and unhealthy dining decisions, and hopefully we swing between the two enough to keep us somewhere in the middle. Have a great weekend!
@@ChefBuckRecipes You guys are doing awesome work. Don't worry about the past videos because we all need some mix of high and low calorie diet. Besides, the new low cal and different diets have started recently, so majority of the popular recipes worldwide are not very low cal.
oh it's so good with butter--better with butter?...butter makes everything better!...I like this non-butter version since I'm taking a bit of a butter break, but I'm definitely missing butter
Fantastic idea .. love the idea of making the topping without butter ... and adding the fresh ginger .. definitely gonna try that in place of the powdered ginger i normally use.
the topping this crisp is definitely more crumbly. The texture of this crisp "feels" healthy, which is a strike against it in my book, but it tastes terrific and has a lot less sugar and fat, so I'm happy to make the trade off. Once you go fresh ginger in this, you never go back...
@@ChefBuckRecipes lol Well you got some points with this recipe! I actually like the flavor of it, as long as that's not all I taste. The use of it in a crumb topping sounds really good.
I've gone with less flour, and even almond flour, but it doesn't feel desserty enough for me that way--although still delicious! I'm a big fan of coconut oil, especially for desserts, but I think it's more saturated fat, and since I'm shooting for less fat, my jug of coconut oil is lasting longer

I like yr healthy apple crisp recipe. Thank you so much. I think I would tweak it a bit and do half safflower oil and half butter (for flavor) and add raisins and/or dried cranberries to the apples b/c I like a little sweet tartness.
I really like the cranberry/raisin idea...butter does add a great flavor to a crisp!...our "not at all healthy" version of an apple crisp calls for more than a cup of butter, and it's soooo good, but I enjoy this version equally well
This looks excellent and a great recipe. It seems that you can really play around with it each time and add some fresh peach, apricot, raisins, maple syrup or honey. Love the cardamom ingredient!!
This will be my apple crisp recipe from now on !!!! But I don't think I will cook it in the oven for an hour as I prefer the apples to keep their form.. But I will prepare it as it looks delicious !!! Thanks for sharing !!
I was tasked with providing dessert to a gathering of six. It's November in the north country so apple crisp seemed a logical choice, but my inner logician didn't stop there. From its small room in my neocortex it shouted out to see if Buck and CG have an apple crisp recipe. Intuition then chimed in from its bungalow deeper in the brain stem, "''course they do!" And they did. I went with Honeycrisp apples cuz they're my faves and I had a bunch. Kept the skins ala Buck. Quartered them easily the way CG woulda had she gotten her mitts on that knife. 8x8 for this gathering ran the risk of leaving the masses wanting, so I kicked it up to 13x9 using The Force and upped most ingredients by 50% rather than embarking on tedious volume calculations. Also pimped it out a bit by adding 4 cups of frozen blueberries. In place of white sugar I used maple syrup as required by Vermont statute. Pretty much kept to the script otherwise. Served it with coconut milk vanilla ice cream and the whole shebang was received with enthusiastic applause. Plus, here's an added benefit - our house smelled great for two days. The only tweek I will make next time, which will be soon, is to reduce the cardamom by precisely one smidgen. It wasn't overpowering but, to my taste, one smidgen stronger than I would like. Definitely include the lemon juice plus (and these little touches are where Buck shines) the zest. Also the ginger. I was tempted to go lighter on the fresh, chopped ginger, but I resisted that impulse and threw in a bit more than 4 whole tablespoons -- turned out to be a good decision. Great job guys - you made me look good and tickled my palate once again - just finished the last bowl of leftovers.
Yummm!! Love the fresh ginger twist! Thanks Chef Buck. I'm definitely making this for the kids this week. Tweaking with coconut oil and butter, peaches and apples, raisins, no sugar, no wheat, maybe 1 whisked egg? What do you think? Lol my healthy version.
Fresh ginger really does a lot for an apple crisp...I put in an egg in crisps sometimes...here's our "opposite of low fat" version of an apple crisp recipe ua-cam.com/video/ys6lH0zfNNQ/v-deo.html
Chef Buck .....I make mine with sugar free maple syrup instead of sugar (sugar is literally poison for our bodies ) and no need for oil...but coconut oil would be a good option if you absolutely need it. I do use butter though...only 1/2 of a stick and no need to cook apples ahead ...they will be soft and juicy don't worry!! As I get older I worry more about my sugar intake than fat.....oh and we use fat free whip which is delish!!
my sugar intake has upped since my fat intakes has dipped, so I'm gonna have to find a balance for sure....we don't cook the apples before we bake them in our other crisp recipe, but this version bakes a little dryer, so I like to give the apples a head start--it's definitely not a necessary step for someone who likes apples cooked less...I usually have a bottle of maple syrup in the kitchen cause it's a such a great flavor to have on hand...we're holed up at my mother-in-laws during the travel restrictions and she doesn't keep maple syrup, but I'll have to eventually correct that oversight

Just in time for FALL and 🍎🍏season . Gala apples are on sale everywhere and I’ve been looking for a new healthy apple dessert recipe. I would like to make this with Almond flour instead of the white flour. Do you think it would turn out OK??
yes...I've made this recipe with an all almond flour and flaxseed combo and left the white flour out completely and it's still super tasty...the crumble topping is just a little more crumbly
ghee is for me!--or it used to be...I'm experimenting with a lower-fat diet as I stumble gracefully toward my 6th decade, so I'm reducing my regular butter and even ghee intake, but butter and cooked apples are definitely a lovely couple
