Since you've filmed this video China has hosted the largest Pokemon tournament ever. The Beijing Masters Tournament had 5604 players. I was lucky enough to interview the winner for it. It's crazy to see how quickly it's grown. I'm not sure if even Pokemon expected it to grow so fast compared to other TCGs

Surprised this video didn't catch on in the youtube algo given the high quality, but maybe one day. That algo is a very fickle thing, lol.
Regardless of its current popularity though, you should be proud of this video, imo.
It's extremely well done! Feels like a documentary.
I was born and raised in Canada/US, but my blood is chinese, so as someone who was also a childhood pokemon fan, this video was super interesting to me.
It's cool to get a more in-depth look at how China is responding to the recent introduction of the pokemon TCG.
The vibes and excitement around the Pokemon TCG over there remind me of the early 2000's in the US, haha.
Thank you for making this! I enjoyed it :o

@@frieflow appreciate the comment, very kind of you mate! Probably one of the most favourite videos I’ve done. The store at the end has closed down since filming I believe 😔

    • @frieflow

@@WesleyWinter. I can see why. It's a great video! It's easy to tell a ton of effort went into the overall video structure, filming, audio edits, visual edits, subtitles, pacing, etc.
Ah, that store closing down is a shame :( It looked like a pretty neat place.
They did mention that there was really high & increasing competition among the TCG shops over there, so it's understandable that it was tough to stay afloat. Hope everyone at the store is still doing well regardless, even if they're working on something else now.
Hm, I might admittedly be wrong, so you should take this with a grain of salt, but I feel like if you optimized the title and thumbnail for this video, that might help boost it? Honestly, I think going through that title/thumbnail optimization process might be a worthwhile for some of your other "less successful" (in terms of pure popularity, not true video quality) videos too. From what I've seen, your videos are plenty interesting once you get a viewer "through the door", so to speak. But from the perspective of a youtube viewer, some of your titles & thumbnails don't really pique my curiosity, to actually get me through the door and click on them while browsing.
For example, I also watched your "Life in China, a year later" video earlier today, and I really enjoyed that video too! It was pretty nostalgic seeing you walk around the city to show daily life, because I haven't been to China since I was a little kid. But I honestly probably wouldn't have clicked on that video to begin with normally. At least, IF I hadn't first seen this video, which established to me that you make really good stuff. But if I hadn't already seen one of your videos before, I would've been much less likely to give the benefit of the doubt.
The video quality on your channel seems really high across the board from what I've seen, so I'm guessing that going through your channel and doing some title & thumbnail optimization might do wonders. Especially for the amount of effort it would take, at least in comparison to actually making a good video. Making genuinely interesting content is WAY harder than just making a good title/thumbnail. Your channel is already quite successful, but I still feel like you have videos (like this one) that have surprisingly low views, despite how interesting the video itself is. Of course, I don't think that title/thumbnail optimization would necessarily guarantee the blessing of the youtube algo. But it might increase the odds of it, to some degree. Maybe you could study how @AbroadinJapan does their titles/thumbnails? They might make a good reference point, since their channel also creates high quality travel/documentary style content.
Also, to be clear, I think some of your titles/thumbnails do a GREAT job of piquing curiosity/interest from the viewer. I'm not trying to broadly imply that ALL of your titles/thumbnails could use optimization. I just think that SOME of them MIGHT have a chance at benefitting greatly from it. Anyway, all the best man. Keep up the great work!

I’ve recently just added some simplified Chinese cards to my collection I have the year anniversary box friends in alola and friends in galar in a psa 10 and I absolutely love them just as much as my English Japanese Korean and Thai cards that I personally own so far! As a Pokemon collector, it's great to see more of the world join.
But also... they play card tournaments OUTSIDE?!?!?!
Finally, I visited China last year, a small city anyway, and I couldn't find ANY pokemon cards. Lots of Ultraman though. I wonder how Pokemon fares in comparison to other TCGs.

As a 1980s china grow up Ultraman is definitely one of the favorate kids TV series at 80s therefore it is big deal compare to Pokemon. If you ask them Pokemon they may not know what it is but if you ask pikachu then will be more recognizable. It's all about what you watch at childhood but good to see more and more Pokemon collectors and there is even a physical Pokemon themed shop (big one) opened in Shanghai last year

I've always had English and Japanese but am currently all in on simplified Chinese cards cuz they're at floor value and most Westerners are still dismissive so it's a great opportunity. Probably dropped close to $3k in like 3 weeks buying up those 1st anniversary boxes, PSA 9 & 10 Alolan Friends and other promos lol, will hold long term😁
