Thank you, Chris! I've always wanted to see behind a Matchless/AJS primary cover to see how the mag chain actually runs. Yes, my Pre War Triumph Speed Twin also has an extremely difficult to reach magneto platform bolt. Great stuff there. Really enjoy your videos!

The primary cover/clutch basket arrangement you have is the same as the Burman setup on my Ariel which is not the typical Burman setup. The reason is that it has a better clutch bearing design than the usual Burman one. You may find also that the gearbox sprocket is held captive by a shoulder on the mainshaft due to this design difference so you have to remove the mainshaft if you need to change the sprocket.

Oh, joy! 😒 So if mine is like yours then to replace the gearbox sprocket I'd have to strip the gearbox and remove the mainshaft? Marvellous. 😒

@@Chris.rooke150 Not necessarily. My gearbox was working beautifully, so i did not want to disturb it. I found a long wooden dowel (which I think was the handle of a toilet plunger !)) of similar diameter to the mainshaft and used it to slowly push the mainshaft out of the primary side, so it kept all the internals in place, replaced the sprocket then pushed it back in again : ). The positive of your (and Ariels) clutch is that it results in a more robust bearing with less wobble than the standard Burman arrangement which is pretty poor. I reckon it makes it easier to have a fairly crunch free gearbox, so the disadvantage of very occassionally needing to change the gearbox sprocket is probably worth it.

How many teeth have sprocket on the engine?

I'm afraid I don't know. All I can suggest is freezing the video at a good point of view and counting the teeth.
