    You should mention how useful it is to hook up a mic on your desktop, and set the "listen always" flag, and have it output to the vive's headset.
    Then you can "talk" to the person in VR without having to yell or have them turn down the volume. Very handy!

      Right click on the speaker icon bottom right of your screen. Then click "recording devices", then double click the USB audio device in the list. A new window pops up. Click on the "Listen" tab. Then check "Listen to this device".
      The microphone now plays back over the speakers.

      The standby function is not good for the Cosmos Elite. In my case when using standby for base stations it causes game breaking jittery display. If this happens to you buy a pair of RF remote outlets and a remote. Turn them on for VR time, turn them off when you're done.

    #11 Lens Distance adjustment : Where the headstrap connects to the HMD grab the grey rings and pull them out to the sides a bit. Then rotate them forward or back to move the display lenses further from or closer to your eyeballs & press back in to lock it when done. Can help reduce eye strain or improve FOV. Took me 2 years to realize this.

    a new tip for everyone : replace the factory HDMI cable by a display port (DP-mini DP), picture sharpness is much better, I'm not sure supersampling (I use 2.5 for tests) works or is properly transmitted with the stock HDMI it was very blurry before i switched to DP fyi, a good way to test is to download the "london thames river" environement and check the red circle in the middle of the bridge with HDMI all I saw was red dot on a flat white circle now I can see details in the white

    Another tip to remember (we found out at the meetup event you were talking about). Make sure to boot up your computer with the monitor only, then plug in the Vive after it's booted to Windows. If not, your Vive might become the primary monitor when the computer boots, which isn't going to work well.

    It is actually amazing to consider, that the Vive and the CV1 were the first generation of headsets filled with so much functionality that we expect as a standard. Only thing that didn't age well on my CV1 and my Vives are their Fresnel lenses.

    For those of you who commented that you felt this would be information anyone with half a brain would discover all by themselves in a day or two, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. You would be wrong, however, but still entitled to it. I very much wish I had been fortunate enough to notice and then watch this video before I even opened the box holding my Vive. If you are brand new to this level of technology, it can be incredibly intimidating. How do you know what you don't know? Don't criticize someone for being a newbie. I try to think of complexity as an illusion. It generally disappears with understanding. This video gave me understanding quickly. Yes, I could have and did spend a bunch of wasted time learning a few of these on my own. I would have preferred knowing the information in advance, and then just use the knowledge, and I thank the maker of this tutorial very much.

    1 thing that i really wish I had known, too, was that the earbuds that come with the Vive had a little tab on the RIGHT earbud that you can easily feel to know which one is right and which one is left. It even has a little R on it. The earbuds themselves both have an R and L on them, but this is obviously great for figuring out what's what with the headset ON.

    I have an Index and am watching this video long after, but I think it's neat to see how SteamVR used to look and the things people didn't know back in the day. For instance, I didn't realize both Vive controllers looked the same. With Index Controllers, they're shaped to your hands and clearly have a right and left.
    The headset mirror mode has more options like showing an overlapping view of both eyes.
    There's a double-tap system button for camera room view now, and you can actually see the room instead of just the object outlines.
    The Index also has a Bluetooth controller in the headset so you don't have to manage that yourself. All of that stuff is completely gone from view.

    am i the only one who has no idea which hand the icon is supposed to mean? they make it a solid grey cartoon hand and i have no idea if that means the back of your hand view or the palm, sinch when you hold the controller you hold it in your palm with your thumbs poiting up or out. so which is it? the icon supposed to be of the palm or the back of the hand?

      Psythik when holding my vive controllers my hands are on the side of the controller. not palm down flat on the trackpad side fuckwit.
      if you turn our hands 90 degrees palm down then your palms are palm down with the controller now sideways. if you turn them 90 degrees the other way then they are palm up with the controllers just as sidways but facing the other way. I don't pick them up palm down or up, that's the issue and that's why the ambiguous logo didn't make sense. had they made them vaguely 3d hands it would be clear. but flat 2d single colour icons specify neither way round until you know what way around its supposed to mean

    Do you know if your space needs to be perfectly square or rectangular? I have a couch with a chaise lounge that sticks out... just wondering if I could set up my space around that without having to move it.

    • @MadFluffysterXaines
      @MadFluffysterXaines 8 років тому +1

      Space can be any shape, for just standing/sitting the space needs to be just a very small box, for a play area there is a minimal requirement but its fairly small. When tracing the area you can make any shape you wish.

    Is the Vive clearer than the rift? I purchased the rift, and it’s not really clear. It’s not unplayable, but I’m wondering if this is not an issue with the Vive.
    Thanks

    Do you have to press "install blutooth driver" button after enabling it?

  • @fereoxfeles
    @fereoxfeles 7 років тому

    Uh, Bluetooth is not needed on the PC. The Bluetooth is built into the headset itself and it will control the lighthouses and controllers as needed. The option isn't on by default because it requires you to install the Bluetooth drivers for the headset (done using the plug & play when you activate the Bluetooth option in the settings).

    Thanks for the great video. I had a question about your bluetooth adapter. is there any that you would recommend? I looked at some online but their ratings were kinda bad. If you could let me know what you have that be great for the lighthouse power feature.

      the headset has it's own Bluetooth chip. No need for your PC to have one!

    Pointing at your monitor or not doesnt matter. You can rotate your play area. Dont know if that was a feature when you recorded this.

    The bluetooth thing is probably off by default because many home use many wifi devices, including the computer the vive might be running on, and depending on the band and frequency of the wifi, bluetooth can easily screw it up. For example, I had a pair of bluetooth headphones and they worked great with my phone, but would absolutely wreck my wifi on my laptop and make it cut out every 10 minutes. For wired computers, bluetooth is not a problem in the slightest, and if you game on pc, it's best you have a wired connection for the best speed anyways.
