Mutas are balanced on the premise that you're playing in Archon mode, with one player whose sole job is to micro around a clump of them like you're in a MOBA. Maybe the balance update we need is for widow mines to cost 3 supply, but only in 1v1; in all other game modes (2v2, etc) they go back to 2.
@@user-nh2bf4to7g maybe reduce the splsh damage? Like main damage is same but splash is lower. But that kinda takes their purpose so the supply one seems good
Fantastic watch. Great to see strats like burrowed banes and chasing down medivacs. This series felt like Reynor sending Serral a message; "Try the spire units!" Fully agree with Lowko though, mutas are not a viable comp unless you can find a spare 200APM under the couch.
Just add some nydus in the bases and a flood of zerg shit and we have the Zagara swarm also known as THE swarm heart of the swarm should have been (seriously Kerrigan should have died xd)
Watching the games recorded in 4K resolution is getting me thinking how beautiful game StarCraft II is especially when thinking it's over 14 years old! Love your commentary too.
so the best way to counter terran lategame is to not fight terran at all, use a zerg unit thats countered by 70% of all terran units and have a thousand apm. makes sense
The Muta strategy makes sense to me, if you can control it: Terran get unstoppable when they can set up their big economy, so the lings and Mutas hit mineral lines and keep the Terran from expanding effectively. Clem can only push out to gain momentum very awkwardly as he has to push back all the counter attacks. It means ultimately, Clem can't establish his bank, and he has to constantly re-invest in workers to get to build his economy.
I think you nailed it. The key to handling the big Terran eco is constant pressure on the bank, rather than taking the fights in the middle that the Terran player wants. Honestly my trouble is figuring how the heck you do that as a Protoss when he can disrespect the heck out of your army and map presence.
@@arbiterally101 honestly no clue. I can only imagine having multiple prisms dancing around in different spaces...but even then, that's so much more fragile - depending on keeping the Prisms alive.
@@arbiterally101 Sounds like Terran can use a bit of a nerf. To what I don't know. Their late game could use a bit of a nerf, so maybe ghosts, since they counter plenty of units. Zerg and Terran are the exact same in that regard. You have to slow down the economy. It's more important against zerg though. Neither terran or zerg need a buff or nerf.
@@kosmosXcannon What Terrans really need a nerf to is the map pool. Yeah its absurd. 2 widow mines left alone can easily oneshot your entire army, which for someone like me who is really bad at micro is just impossible. And clearly even pro struggle. Like at least make them more costly inefficient idk

I'm used to seeing zerg taking absolutely terrible trades but staying on top due to out expanding. In these games, whenever Lowko showed the resources tab, zerg was trading more efficiently!
I feel like you were right when you said Clem wasn't doing anything to directly stop the mutas. He was just waiting for a transition that never came and paid the price.
Funny enough, I like the Bo2 games the most because it's impossible to know the outcome just by looking at the length of the video. Keeps it exciting and entertaining till the end. :D
Rando balance thought - switch widow mines so they have a high damage single target air attack (leaving their ground to ground unchanged). Would this meaningfully improve muta play? Would this overly nerf the mines? Curious to hear thoughts of other Lowko Bros
That would break TvP and TvT, I think (like one-shoting phoenix or vikings would be bad). Rather give mutas more hp (so they survive a mine shot) and reduce their damage. But then Terran can't really move out with drops. The main problem with Terran imo is the flying units. Terran should loose the game, if they don't have any building on the ground for 30 seconds or something. And maybe make lift-off & land 2 clicks (like vv / ll instead of v / l and lifted buildings don't change priority (always rax, factory, starport). Sc2 should be about learning and not wasting the other player's time.

Reynor has been doing this against clem recently with some success it basically negates clems multi drops that are so hard to deal with. This is why he isnt as agressive with his drops. It creates a scenario where the drops are more scary for the terran and at the same time the zerglings can cause havoc

After the debuffs that 'Toss and Zerg had, I don't see how terrans can have "free" energy based workers (mules) and detection (scans).
