    They should make your channel a mandatory subscribe for anybody getting a mountain bike for the first time. I'm 58 and as a kid lived on my 20" bmx. They were way different in the 70s. I stopped riding the road bike I got in my 20s about 30 years ago. This past year I started back and quickly found my first real hardtail mountain bike. Afraid of busting my butt, or breaking my hip, I'm not riding the bike the way it was intended. Your channel is a must for someone like me. Thanks

    Hey guys, GREAT VIDEO! I have one suggestion... in the trials world we always practiced the "half pedal" We would time everything so that a half pedal stroke would propel your bike a bike length... This is basically what you're doing but the timing would start a little further back and with your cranks in a 3 and 9 position but instead of rolling with your normal foot forward it's your opposite. I'd do the drop just like you're doing in ONE cog harder so that when your rear wheel is leaving the edge your cranks are ready for the drop in the 3 and 9 position you're used to. It looks like you're both pedaling in a tiny bit too low of a gear and when you leave the edge your cranks are clocked a little too low so you're not landing quite as smooth as you possibly can. Make sense? Love your vids!

    Totally rad video. Frigging LOVE the STOP frames in the video. Great job taking safety first guys!
    Wheelie drops are so frigging much fun if only for the endorphin/adrenaline rush from the sheer terror of f-ing up.
    A million years ago when I was 30, my buddy and I spent hours/days/weeks practicing wheelie drops on the curb in front of my house (the neighbours were thinking “what’s wrong with these grown-a$$ men?”). We then found a12" or so rock drop on a trail to practise and then went straight to... wait for it.. picnic tables!!! OMG that was such a rush.
    At some point the drop height gets to a point that it’s no longer safe to flat drop and you have to learn to wheelie and then drive the rear wheel straight down so it lands first but that’s moving into trials territory and that so ain’t where I’m at! LOL

    • @JoyOfBike
      @JoyOfBike  3 роки тому

      Thanks Michael. I'm with you. I'm not taking my drops any higher for a while. That middle one was 29 inches. An inch less than a picnic table and the other was 40 inches. I'll hold. : )

    On my go-to trail there's an old flat shed roof that's about 10ft x 10ft. It's not level, and the lowest point is 1ft off the ground, so I have to get up that step and a split second later power wheelie off the other side at about 2ft high. It's not the highest, but there's a lot going on in a very short amount of time. Definitely gets the adrenaline pumping.

    Thanks for this. I had a pretty significant crash last year trying to showboat and wheeleeing off a 1ft wood feature/drop. Timed it wrong and speared myself in the chest with the handlebars. Obviously, I stopped doing it. Now I know how to work my way back. 🤙

      @@JoyOfBike It was slow speed and not too high, so I was only sore for a few weeks. I ended up with a sweet ODI logo stamp on my chest for the summer though. 😅

    Nice vid, Alex & Lee. I gave this a try off of a curb tonight. Felt good. But I’m definitely more comfortable just popping into a trials back tire hop and hopping down a drop. 😉
