Informative video. Thanks. Very nice neat job. Wish all electricians did work as you do. A lot of it, is simply taking pride in your work. What city are you in Florida?
I like doing things myself but I have solar panels connected to my heater as well as electric. Im assuming that the Little Gray Box will still help conserve energy?
Would a 40amp contractor in a metal box on the heater with a 115v coil wired to a smart outlet get the job done safely and to code? Just asking. What am I missing?
Sure. A 40 amp Contactor in a metal enclosure with a whip to a smart outlet will work. I was thinking of doing the same thing. I'm currently using Leviton smart swithes / outlets and wanted to get away from the timer and use the easy settings from Leviton to control the water heater. Great minds think alike Walter!
Great question because it's difficult to see. I believe I wire nutted the ends together but used the solid green wire under the screw about 3" from the end of the wire. That way I would have the ends available for a wire nut. Thanks for asking.

Yes, of course. The more and electrical device is turned off he more energy you’re gonna save weather it’s connected to solar or the grid.

did you pigtail the ground wires?
