- If you want to know how to save money on heating your water, adding a hot water heater timer and insulated blanket can help! If you have a hot water heater TANK, it is constantly working ensure that the set temperature of your hot water is maintained, EVEN WHILE YOUR SLEEPING! The hot water heater timer will give your hot water heater a break during the times that you typically don't need hot water and the insulated blanket will help it maintain its temperature longer so that it doesn't have to work as hard! It's an easy task and costs less than $100, but should pay for itself in less than a year! I hope this is helpful and if you have any questions, feel free to comment below! Peace and God bless!
Intermatic Hot Water Heater Timer
Thanks a lot Ryan. I almost called an electrician but installed the timer myself after watching your video. Take care.
Glad it helped!👍😁
direct to the point, detailed on the task, great job
Thanks for the feedback!😊👍
Great job on the tutorial, thanks
Thanks for the comment!👍😊
thank you
You’re welcome!👍😊
Great video, Thank you!
Glad it helped!👍😁
1:28 You forgot to say "First replace your old rusty hot water heater." Seriously though, helpful video.
😆 It’s only 4 years old!
I agree, the timer is a good way to save electricity. I installed that same timer about a year ago. The power company here in SoCal offers a "Time of Use" rate plan. Their higher rates are from 4 PM to 9 PM. So I set the timer to switch off around 4 PM and back on around 9 PM. Of course, the tank is full of hot water even after the timer switches off so there is plenty of hot water while power is off - unless you like long hot showers.
A few comments about your video:
Saying "HOT water heater" is redundant. There's no need to heat water that is already hot. It's simply called a "water heater" 8-)
That Romex coming out of the wall does not look safe.
😆 True true. Appreciate the feedback. That Romex was there since the beginning.😁 In hindsight I should reroute it into the back of the timer. Maybe another day. 😊
1. Without a timer, the heater isn't ON 24 hours a day. It will come ON for a few minutes every few hours (after the heat escapes). Modern WHs are well insulated and don't loose heat like the old days.
2. WITH a timer (one or two ON periods a day) its true that you're saving those few minutes every few hours, but its also true that you will have a much longer initial ON period because the water temp has dropped significantly during all those OFF hours. kind of cancels out.
3. A timer may save a little . These timers are running $70 (for the cheaper mechanical version)and it will take the better part of a year to recover the cost.
Really dude, this is not an English class. This is an excellent video.
A water heater is a appliance that fills with cold water and heats the water to a temperature controled by thermostats. A hot water heater uses hot water to heat something else such as living space, or a sidewalk or drive way.
Interesting. I guess in the south those terms are interchangeable/synonymous. lol.
Always been referred to as a hot water heater here in NC.
Great info. I would've liked to see how the water heater timer works. Thanks
Sorry about that! You screw little tabs on for “on” and “off” and the dial turns a complete circle every 24hrs and whatever hour the tab is on will turn it off or on.👍
@rutterrealtygc gotcha, thanks
Thank you for your video. Two questions: I am buying a new (240-V), 40-55 gall tank. What voltage (or wattage) Timer should I buy? What brand tanks are high-quality, long lasting? (I have a Pro-Max now. .. reader’s comments welcomed) I don’t want a tankless unit, due to hurricanes and frequent power outages where I live (Florida).
I don't have experience with which brand tanks might last longer than others, though I believe that most manufacturers provide a warranty on their tanks. If you are concerned with longevity, then I would just choose the one with the longest warranty. As far as the timer, I would contact the timer manufacturer. Here www.intermatic.com/Catalog/us/Products/Timer-Controls/Specialty-Time-Switches they even have a chat box where you can message them to ask which one will work for your application. :)
Why did not wire this timer the way it shows on the timer cover/door diagram?
I did. Both wires coming from the breaker (white and black) are “hot” for 240v
What happened to the white wires that were on terminal #1 that went to terminals # 2 and 4?
I am not really sure which ones you are talking about. The manufacturer is super helpful or you can call a licensed and insured contractor if you need help with the wiring.👍
interesting that you did not create access to the 2 panels when insulating, other than completely unwrapping the blanket. Even a flap for each seems to make good sense.
I had to do that eventually.👍
I am talking about the two thin wires on the far lift on terminal #1 that are seen at the beginning of the video and at time line number # 242 they disappear.
What are they for? Are they for powering the clock?
They don’t disappear. There are behind the “hot” wires. They go to the timer motor. You can see them in my other video: how to replace the timer motor. ua-cam.com/video/meiRedt_8xA/v-deo.htmlsi=-RAvL_XIy7JyzLrj
Great video. Thanks.
Amazon has that same timer, I need the 220V one. But theres a 10,000W and a 6,250W...which to get? Whats the difference?
I don’t know...🤷♂️
I guess you can look in the manual under specifications for the wattage of your heater
The legendary Johny sins im ur big fan
Johny Sins?🤔
@rutterrealtygc 😱 omg my idol replied to my comment.
What size are the wires?
What gauge are the wires from the house?
The 110 volt wires are split ? So a 110 volt timer will work? Or you have to have a 220 volt timer? Thanks
Mine is a 220.👍
Hi is electricity supplier responsible for correcting the timing of emersion heater
No clue whatsoever...🤷♂️😬
Isn't that covering up the burner vents?
I don't have a burner on my heater because it is electric... There are no vents.
🤗👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👍🏿👍🏿🤗
I am installing a new electric water heater and am going to install a switch to turn it off and on. Did you ever do that? For me a timer just wouldn't work
I have not done that, no. Best of luck!
Get a properly rated safety cutoff switch
Just turn off the breaker every night and turn it back on in the morning.
The intermatic can be used as a switch
Where would I obtain the timer,... Home Depot, Lowes?
Yes, either should have one.👍
I hear a clicking sound coming from the timer box . What can that possibly be ?
Mine was clicking and not going past the tabs that switch it on and off. I called Intermatic and they concluded that the timer motor had gone bad and that I would need to replace in internal parts of the timer. I have another video for this here: ua-cam.com/video/meiRedt_8xA/v-deo.html I would recommend calling Intermatic to troubleshoot. They were very helpful!
Mine makes a loud click. Is it not supposed to? I also noticed that after my wife washes alot of clothes we don't have hot water til the next day. Could something have gone bad in the timer?
It's actually a cold water heater or water heater
Thanks Tommy
Make sure it’s a hot water heater as opposed to a cold water heater
😆 Nice. I guess it heats both hot and cold water if you think about it. 😉
Does anyone know if you can wire a booster without access to the time clock
No clue... Now I have to look up what a "booster" is for your water heater.
I think you should be using MC cable not Romex
New construction is still just using Rolex down here. Check your local codes and ask your local contractor for the best info.👍
By the way, the hose you installed for your water heater shouldn't be used for hot water application. The inner lining is made of PVC material and they shouldn't be used for hot water drinking supply.
Who drinks hot water from the sink? lol
@@rutterrealtygc You will be surprised. A lot of people use it use for cooking. Or making coffee or tea. Also the hot water will wear out the rubber lining faster. Anyway, thanks for the video I learn how to replace my water heater by watching your video.
@traybern you will be surprised. I’ve seen people make coffee with hot water.
Busted 1 wire and removed pins
I hope it works now!
You said God bless. Are you a believer of Jesus?
Do I believe in Jesus Christ? Yes. 😊
Lovely. Have you received the Holy Spirit brother? @@rutterrealtygc

Just get a tankless water heater problem solved on both ends
Yeah, not everyone has access to gas or the capital for a tankless. Just meant for those who aren’t going to go tankless. Thanks for the comment.
@@rutterrealtygc tankless electric. But a timer makes sense if you have cheaper off peak pricing and/or are looking to save the environment by heating water at night when everyone is asleep.
Yeah then you got to descale the tankless all the time.....hmmm.... No thanks
