Well for a real side-by-side comparison of the amp only emulation you need to exclude the cab sim from the equation (and the fxs obiously) . Opss i see now that you did it in another video! 😋
It seems like the IK sld was recorded with less dynamic range perhaps, and so it needs more push from the pedal sims and also more dimed dials than the DSP version. There's a graphic EQ in IK that can help push forward the same frequencies as the DSP version as well, to make it brighter and less flat. Overall the DSP is easier to plug and play, the IK is a little stubborn but can be made pretty similar with some careful tweaking. Can't complain when it's free.
They missed a major opportunity with the "nostalgia" market by not putting a Mick Mars preset in there. That dude had the BEST guitar sound ever on the Dr Feelgood album by notoriously using the SLO100.
Thanks for this comparison. 2 weeks ago my feed was filled with the free Soldano for Amplitube, and now those videos seem to be gone. :) Certainly the feed at least is replaced with the Neural DSP Soldano reviews. From what I hear here, they're quite different with the Neural DSP appealing to me quite a bit more.
Both are capable of some great sounds, I am guessing the main thing holding back the AmpliTube version is the cab simulation. I wonder how they would compare using the same IR with both. Everything about that Neural DSP plugin is perfection though, I bought it almost instantly after it was released. Thanks!
Yeah it looks a bit that way...I will do a video comparing a bunch of Amp Sim plugins using a third party IR loader so they all get a consistent Speaker Cab emulation
i use ik multimedia, when bypass the IR of the AT5 and load a YorkAudio IR... i must say, it sounds fkng amazing. The problem with AT5 are their impulse responses
The Neural stuff is very good - I'm also a fan of the THU Overloud stuff (Choptones did a Soldano package for Overloud that is very good). I prefer Overloud to the Amplitube gear. To be honest, in a mix, its hard to tell the difference between the Choptones Overloud Soldano vs. Neural (for me at least). If you are using a laptop, the Overloud Soldano is a bit easier on your CPU. Just my 2 cents.
Love Fortin Cali, but for whatever reason that is my one NDSP plug that turns into a real system hog. Nolly, Gojira, Paralax are all easy on my sytem, but Fortin Cali jams things up fast :/
I've tried both and also TH-U. First of all, i was exclusively tryin' to get an Eric Johnson tone from them. For my taste: - TH-U: good tone, but maybe too "incapsulated" ; -Neural DSP Plini: Better than TH-U, the sound you can get in hi-gain is definitely out of this world, but for me was useless due to hard time to work on bass freqs and the limited amount of gear. Amplitube 5: a i ittle bit more realistic for me and best overall tone in order to achieve a crunchy bass mid lead. With the paid irs (Ownhammer and York Audio) it's the holy grail if you want that specific EJ tone.
GREAT video! I really appreciate this a lot! I thought I was doing something wrong with Amp5. I'm a newbie to all this. I have only used a small amp with no pedals or effects before. So very basic tones with no tone "searching". I was pulled in by Amp5 because of the access to all the hardware and pedals which I've never had access to before to play with effects etc. I have really struggled to get a tight metal tone from ANY of the metal amps in AMP5. Everything sounds so MUFFLED, I thought it might be my monitor speakers as they're quite heavy on the bass. I haven't tried this Nueral plugin, but I have tried the Fortin NTS one and out of the box the tone BLOWS amp5 away.
The Neural DSP Slo is far superior, but I will give this to Amplitube. Their version of the Slo was made close to a decade ago at this point. It released in the Amplitube 3 days. The technology has come a long way since then. That said, Neural DSP’s... DSP has really impressed me at every turn. I rarely find myself going to Amplitube anymore. It’s either Softube or Neural DSP for me.
I feel amplitude input gain level is incorrect. If you up the level you get a more accurate gain structure of the amps. Also a comparison using the same cab ira would bring these rwo much closer together
I think Neural sounded better but most of the change was the IR. Amplitube was more "sticky" sounding in parts like more saturated lows or something, but meh. Both are good for different reasons probably. Would argue that NDSP has a slight advantage in usability because there's not tons of excess fx in it, just the stuff you would probably want. Ma'ybe for another compare, use an external IR and just dial in the amps the same incl volume, then A/b them. Most of the tone is cab anyway so that would help show the true details of each sim on a fairer playing field. Cheers man
Yep Nick...I filmed a video yesterday...with the same two plugins and also the SLO sim in STLAmpHub...using the Two Notes Wall of Sound and some Celestion Plus IRs...made a HUGE difference...video should be out early next week
I have been comparing these two directly over the last week. I can get them to sound exactly the same - I just throw a blanket over the speakers when using the Neural...
Already done...the new video will be out early next week...I added the SLO style amp in STL AmpHub too...all with the Two Notes Wall of Sound IR loader
Hi. Very simple question. What kind of speakers are you playing through? I’m getting great sound through headphones but monitors not as great thanks. And great video I might add.
Neural seems to be the way to go. I finally got my laptop studio set up, so I'll be trying out a ton of these. Those Fishman pickups are great. Never thought I'd want actives, but damn, those destroy EMG.
Yeah I’m the same...I never liked active pickups but these seem really good...they seem to work great in that guitar!! The Neural plugin is great...I need to try more of their stuff!!
It would have been nice to see both using the same IR to rule out the internal cabinetry. the amplitube cabinets definitely sound more boxy, whereas the neural has more of a scooped sound. thanks for the video tho.
Neural have a great cab sim section, i suggest try some play amp sim from amplitube + neural cab sim section or any different amp sim. In my opinion 70% sound in Neural is from a cab sim. Maybe that is a reason way Neaural not shares cab sim as separate application
Rather off topic but can you tell us what you use as your output when you do this type of demo? IE. Studio monitors, PC speakers, amp cabinet? I usually see demos where the individual is wearing headphones.
I listen back to it through my Yamaha HS8 monitors that are connected to the Audient Interface. I don’t really like using headphones - it ends up being more work for me because I have to turn the volume of my vocal microphone down every time I play guitar (I do that in Logic after I film) but I like it much better hearing the guitar through the monitors and not through headphones! What you hear in the video is the unedited, direct sound of the plugins within Logic! Hope that explains it!!
I just recently purchased Amplitube 5 Max.....and saw this video.....thought Neural DSP sounded a lot better.....so I downloaded a trial at home....and....I'm not getting the same huge differences that you seem to get here.......here, at home, I thought they both sounded about equal in quality....I would say that there are a lot more tone shaping options with Amplitube, having a choice of numerous amps/cabs/pedals/rack gear, etc....that you can add.....but if someone ONLY wanted a Soldano copy...and didn't want anything else.....I'd say you'd be happy with the Neural DSP.......but...if you want more versatility, I'd go with Amp 5 (max) I will say that I really liked the delay "pedal" that comes with the Neural DSP.....very nice.
I love AmpliTube, but this was truly "ear opening". I didn't want to admit just how much better Neural DSP sounds, but it's really obvious in my opinion.
Oh dear... RIP Amplitube... fond memories in the early days, but oh my word,, Neural are just knocking it out of the park these days. It's very hard not to buy all of them!
My take is that when recording i use different amp sims that sound different and with that I can fill almost all the guitar sound freq spectrum ....this IK Soldano sounding slighly odd or not the same is quite good for fuller tracks ! At least for me it works !
I am not at all into modeling but the Neural is head of the pack. The UA-camrs are even putting their AXE-FX III on the back seat. The main thing it is great to see you have it. It might help bring in some new subscribers and help fill out the ranks with all us regulars and that is a win, win for the Pedal Show and for us!
Kid: "Mom, can we get the new Neural DSP SLO100 plug-in!" Mom: "We have an SLO100 plug-in at home!" SLO100 plug-in at home: Amplitube The best way to compare these would be to load both plugins on one channel and turn the cab off on one and alternate between since mic placement and cab are HUGE factors of the tone. You could do this with the cab sections from both to really get an idea. Note: I had an original SLO100 some years back. But it was before everyone and their brother had affordable load boxes and IRs were a thing, so I...had to...sell it...😭 I have the Amplitube, the STL and the Neural SLO plug-ins. The Neural has the best pedal feature set. Personally, the STL is most like the real thing out of the box, but the Neural is easily tweaked to match. The Amplitube is great if you aren't dropping big money on plug-ins, but it doesn't "feel" as good as the other two. If you really want as close to real as possible, I vote for the Neural or STL. But also, your computer makes a big difference. If your computer bogs down easily, you won't enjoy any of them properly.
Amplitube muched boxy than neural, i have the cory wong version, the clean tone with Neural are the best i geard Di on a virtual amp, yet i love the huge power house you have in amplitube 5, overall i am satiafyed with amplitube 5 max and neural cory wong, i much of a funk blues lofi dude 😅

I’m going into the Focusrite Scarlett Gen3 into my MAC. how do you get plug ins to not sound so brittle & bad (I’m thinking plug ins are never gonna sound warm and pleasant like a real amp). What am I missing? Maybe it’s because I’m using AmpliTube - nothing sounds good through headphones?
Neural sounds great. Downloaded the Tone King trial plugin today. But since I don’t use plugins often, right off the bat I notice the latency….ughhhh. Real amps rule. Looking at the Quad Cortex though…it’s kind of hard for me to get creative when you have the latency, even using low buffer rates etc.
2 роки тому
Latency has a lot to do with your interface(and your computer to a degree) and nothing to do with the plug-in itself. I also had latency with cheap Beringhers and it improved with a Rode AT-1 but I got the axe io yesterday and it blew my mind. 0 latency no matter how high the buffer size is.
I did that in another video! To me it’s more about how the plugins sound with the stock IRs. I mean in the end I can make all those plugins sound pretty much the same with some third party IRs, EQ and compression…but that’s not what it’s about! A plugin should sound good with the stock IRs…and that’s what I’m comparing here
@@TSFAHTPS fair enough. I have a different approach though. I settle with a capable device, and then I make patches. I don't not need out of the box presets. what I don't like is noticing after I invested many hours in a device, that it lacks something I cannot get. therefore I test the raw thing first, and only after this meets the criteria I dig deeper into FX and modulation. so time invested is not lost.

From what I hear here, they're quite different with the Neural DSP appealing to me quite a bit more.
Solid sounding plug in very dynamic i could sit there all day tweaking that 🤘
You definitely can...and I kinda did...after the video!
@@TSFAHTPS Awesome dude 🤘
Both are capable of some great sounds, I am guessing the main thing holding back the AmpliTube version is the cab simulation. I wonder how they would compare using the same IR with both. Everything about that Neural DSP plugin is perfection though, I bought it almost instantly after it was released. Thanks!
Yeah it looks a bit that way...I will do a video comparing a bunch of Amp Sim plugins using a third party IR loader so they all get a consistent Speaker Cab emulation
the thing that sucks in the amplitube version is the cabinet but if you change the ir you will see that the amp model is just as good as the neural!
I’ve done just that in another video - should be out early next week
i use ik multimedia, when bypass the IR of the AT5 and load a YorkAudio IR... i must say, it sounds fkng amazing. The problem with AT5 are their impulse responses
I just filmed a video about that...should be out early next week
Finally the video I have been looking for.
Thank you!!
You were as fair as you could have been. Trying to match settings, microphones etc. Neural clearly landed on top!!
Thanks will tray the Soldano tonight
Have fun!!
Thanks for sharing, Neural DSP sounds much better for me
The Neural stuff is very good - I'm also a fan of the THU Overloud stuff (Choptones did a Soldano package for Overloud that is very good).
A few people mentioned the Overloud plug-in...I think I need to check it out!! Thanks Rays Metal Tracks
And whqat about S-Gear of Scuffman amp ? So good !
That Greco is a beauty. I'd have uncovered double cream humbuckers in that.
I use SLO 100 in Amplitube 5 but to me Neural DSP sounds better
Just found your channel. I think you are my doppleganger... but you are way better with the guitar than i am :)
Finally someone who understands what it’s like to go through live with this ridiculously gorgeous face 😜
Now that I have the NeuralDSP SLO, that’s all I use for raunchy stuff, I still use Amplitube for the multi-amp clean stuff 🤘🏻
Hi Phillip, what clean amps do you like with Amplitube?
@@OverdriveMusic
can you import Neural DSP plugins into Amplitubes 8 track recorder?
@@OverdriveMusic mainly the vintage Fender suite… also use BiasAmp2 Dumble for a crispy clean
Try out the Neural DSP Fortin Cali plugin? Fantastic video; I loved your reaction to the default setting, priceless!
Love Fortin Cali, but for whatever reason that is my one NDSP plug that turns into a real system hog. Nolly, Gojira, Paralax are all easy on my sytem, but Fortin Cali jams things up fast :/
Thank you Elliott...I want to try out more Neural stuff...I was very impressed with this!!
I've tried both and also TH-U. First of all, i was exclusively tryin' to get an Eric Johnson tone from them.
For my taste:
- TH-U: good tone, but maybe too "incapsulated" ;
-Neural DSP Plini: Better than TH-U, the sound you can get in hi-gain is definitely out of this world, but for me was useless due to hard time to work on bass freqs and the limited amount of gear.
Amplitube 5: a i ittle bit more realistic for me and best overall tone in order to achieve a crunchy bass mid lead. With the paid irs (Ownhammer and York Audio) it's the holy grail if you want that specific EJ tone.
What IR’s from york and ownhammer did you used my friend?
@@GuilhermeHKohnGAnti All of them based to Marshall 1960 cabs
Cheers man
Good idea...I might compare a bunch of these plugins with something like the Two Notes Wall of Sound...thank you Heavy Metal Chainsaw
Yep, the IR used is going to make a huge difference
@@TSFAHTPS any update on this?
Yep Nick...I filmed a video yesterday...with the same two plugins and also the SLO sim in STLAmpHub...using the Two Notes Wall of Sound and some Celestion Plus IRs...made a HUGE difference...video should be out early next week
Neural is leaps ahead in the sounds/user interface. Downloaded amplitude for the SLO but I hope I can bypass the cab to use my two notes cabs
I’m actually looking at doing a video about that later today!!
You can bypass the cab.
I have been comparing these two directly over the last week. I can get them to sound exactly the same - I just throw a blanket over the speakers when using the Neural...
Hahaha
idk man i have AT and i can't get it anywhere near that neural plugin. i got the wrong one it seems.
The neural stuff is the best, but I wish you would have loaded up the same IR for both so we could hear properly how the sims compare.
I did that in another video...here’s the link:
ua-cam.com/video/WBoZRmGKoEA/v-deo.html
*Take the AMPLITUBE AMP, turn off the speaker cab section and run it through the cab section of the Neural Dsp*
Nice one man. Maybe compare next time by using the same IR for both amp sims. Rock on.
Already done...the new video will be out early next week...I added the SLO style amp in STL AmpHub too...all with the Two Notes Wall of Sound IR loader
Awesome dude. Nicely done!
Hi. Very simple question. What kind of speakers are you playing through? I’m getting great sound through headphones but monitors not as great thanks. And great video I might add.
Nice review. Is it possible to put this neural to pedal chain, or volume pedal?
@@TSFAHTPS I use the Yamaha HS8 monitors as well!
Neural DSP and STL tones are the best... Amplitude suc.ks now, it was the best before those 2 giants appeard
I just recently purchased Amplitube 5 Max.....and saw this video.....thought Neural DSP sounded a lot better.....so I downloaded a trial at home....and....I'm not getting the same huge differences that you seem to get here.......here, at home, I thought they both sounded about equal in quality....I would say that there are a lot more tone shaping options with Amplitube, having a choice of numerous amps/cabs/pedals/rack gear, etc....that you can add.....but if someone ONLY wanted a Soldano copy...and didn't want anything else.....I'd say you'd be happy with the Neural DSP.......but...if you want more versatility, I'd go with Amp 5 (max)
I will say that I really liked the delay "pedal" that comes with the Neural DSP.....very nice.
Compare these with the same external IR.....if ya want haha. Thanks for the comparison.
I did...and the video should be out early next week!!
As much as I love the hardware from IK Multimedia but Amplitube is GALAXIES behind the Neural DSP stuff....
I have an Axe I/O but since finding Neural DSP I don’t use any Amplitube 4 that came with it or Amp designer from Logic.
I love AmpliTube, but this was truly "ear opening". I didn't want to admit just how much better Neural DSP sounds, but it's really obvious in my opinion.
I use a Lancaster 1960A cab IR with the Amplitube version and sounds much better than stock IRs in the program.
I really was hoping Amplitube would be good since it comes with a lot of amps but Neural DSP blows it out of the water. How's the CPU and memory load?
Nice.Thanks for this.
You are welcome!!
Oh dear... RIP Amplitube... fond memories in the early days, but oh my word,, Neural are just knocking it out of the park these days. It's very hard not to buy all of them!
Did Amplitube get rid of the Soldano? There is a SLO100 in the amp section but nothing specifically branded with the Soldano name like you show.
Yes, it’s the same amp sim but it’s now called SLO100…I guess it has something to do with licensing…not sure but it’s the same plugin
@@TSFAHTPS Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply. I was curious because I really love the SLO100 but so many videos show it with the Soldano logo.
My take is that when recording i use different amp sims that sound different
and with that I can fill almost all the guitar sound freq spectrum ....this IK
Soldano sounding slighly odd or not the same is quite good for fuller tracks !
At least for me it works !
That’s actually a really good point...thank you very much!!
Beautiful Greco. I have an Aria Pro II 81" japanese guitars
are great!
Hopefully...a bit of a boost for the channel would be nice!! Thanks Paul
Kid: "Mom, can we get the new Neural DSP SLO100 plug-in!"
Mom: "We have an SLO100 plug-in at home!"
SLO100 plug-in at home: Amplitube
The best way to compare these would be to load both plugins on one channel and turn the cab off on one and alternate between since mic placement and cab are HUGE factors of the tone. You could do this with the cab sections from both to really get an idea.
Note: I had an original SLO100 some years back. But it was before everyone and their brother had affordable load boxes and IRs were a thing, so I...had to...sell it...😭
I have the Amplitube, the STL and the Neural SLO plug-ins.
I have a huge latency problem. Any suggestions?
Driver issue? You need an ASIO driver....what's your audio interface?
Right-click the amp GUI to change the skins...
Amplitube muched boxy than neural, i have the cory wong version, the clean tone with Neural are the best i geard Di on a virtual amp, yet i love the huge power house you have in amplitube 5, overall i am satiafyed with amplitube 5 max and neural cory wong, i much of a funk blues lofi dude 😅
for the skin change click the soldano logo just on the amp (black tolex, purple tolex and snake skin)
Oh cool...thank you!!
What about comparing the Nembrini BST100 with the Neural DSP plugin.
Man, the nembrini BST sounds amazing, I prefer the nembrini over the neural one..
@@spectre5022 To my ears the Nembrini sounds more organic and has better low end. The Neural sounds too digitally perfect. I use an evh phase 90 into nembrini and it sounds so good. Glad someone else agrees.
@@davidlloyd9598 I thought exactly the same!
Neural just get better and better please will you review the Quad Cortex?☺
I would LOVE to...not sure if they will send us one though...but I can ask!!
NIGHT AND DAY!!!! Neural all the way
I’m going into the Focusrite Scarlett Gen3 into my MAC. how do you get plug ins to not sound so brittle & bad (I’m thinking plug ins are never gonna sound warm and pleasant like a real amp). What am I missing? Maybe it’s because I’m using AmpliTube - nothing sounds good through headphones?
Are the headphones flat eq? Are the headphones powered? Straight into interface or into DI box?
@@bulletproofprs Yes flat headphones-- just wondering if AmpliTube is just bad sounding
Haven't tried the newest version. But I never was impressed with amplitude. I would describe it as solid-state sounding
use neural dsp stuff if you can its just overall better
Does Neural have a Mesa Boogie plugin? Guess I will have to look. No Mesa but have other cool looking plugins/amps.
I don’t think they do a Mesa Boogie plugin
Check the Gojira plugin! The second amp sounds and behave lika e Mesa recti, the problem with neural is that they don't tell what amp they capture
Amplitube sounds like its your little brother playing in his room next door
Neural sounds great. Downloaded the Tone King trial plugin today. But since I don’t use plugins often, right off the bat I notice the latency….ughhhh. Real amps rule. Looking at the Quad Cortex though…it’s kind of hard for me to get creative when you have the latency, even using low buffer rates etc.
Latency has a lot to do with your interface(and your computer to a degree) and nothing to do with the plug-in itself.
I also had latency with cheap Beringhers and it improved with a Rode AT-1 but I got the axe io yesterday and it blew my mind. 0 latency no matter how high the buffer size is.
cant you just usew the same ir for trrue amp comparison?
I did that in another video!
To me it’s more about how the plugins sound with the stock IRs. I mean in the end I can make all those plugins sound pretty much the same with some third party IRs, EQ and compression…but that’s not what it’s about! A plugin should sound good with the stock IRs…and that’s what I’m comparing here
@@TSFAHTPS fair enough. I have a different approach though. I settle with a capable device, and then I make patches. I don't not need out of the box presets. what I don't like is noticing after I invested many hours in a device, that it lacks something I cannot get. therefore I test the raw thing first, and only after this meets the criteria I dig deeper into FX and modulation. so time invested is not lost.
dudes they BOTH sound hella kick ass. i cant even front.
You should try and use the neural cab with the AmpliTube head. Maybe the AmpliTube cabs are just horrible.
I filmed a video (below) where I compared those two and the STL Amp Hub version of the SLO and used a Celestion Plus IR in an external IR loader plugin
ua-cam.com/video/WBoZRmGKoEA/v-deo.html
Thanks for creating and posting! I agree with the others here... from this video, Neural killed Amplitube! Was thinking of buying the $99 amplitube pack, but after watching this, glad I didn't! I'll try Neural free-trial a test... thanks!
Recently bought Neural DSP's version. There is no more use for Amplitube.
What is you setup?
I talk about the setup at 2:39
Neural DSP for the win!
*And award for LONG WINDED MOUTH goes too....................!*

Does the DI stop the noise floor?
amplitube 5 .. try different speaker.. cab settings.. it can sound exactly same as the real amp.

Used an external IR loader with the AmpliTube SLO and it sounded like the NeuralDSP in your video. The AmplITube is annoying heavy on CPU use though
Can you share the IR so I could try it out?
@@digivish using Celestion Orange 4x12 IRs with the Nadir IR loader with the resonance turned up.
Buuut... I’ve changed my view on this. I downloaded the demo of the Neural SLO, and even with the same IRs it is much better. MUCH BETTER. It’s the closest experience I’ve had to playing through a real amp. I could set the latency down to practically zero on the Neural as well. Can’t do that with AmpliTube.
Thanks. I was just curious if there was a way to make it better. The UI is a bit much for me. I’m on day 4 of the Neural trial and sounds just so much better in every way. I’m going to end up buying it.
Night and day to me, I’m Sold on it
Amplitube has been so far behind in the game, they are 3 years too late to the party. When they released 5, I thought they finally were going to come on par with Neural, ML Soundlab and others but no, still a horrible disappointment and doesn't seem they are changing their ways soon to catch up with what's already available.
Unfortunately you are correct
Would love to see SLO on overloud thu on this comparison too
I’ll contact Overloud and see what I can do
@@TSFAHTPS Checkout the Choptones for Overloud Soldano. Good stuff. The Overloud guys are cool. I have a small channel and they said they would provide any codes I needed for any additional videos, I'm sure they would be willing to send some your way. 👍
Well one was free and the other costs 100 and something...Soooo can one even debate😅
True
Yes you can. If you objectively need a good amp the price has nothing to do with it. You can compare sounds without worrying about the price.
If you really spend some time playing with different cabs, speakers, mics and rooms in Amplitube it seems to really come alive.
I had a friend who had a real SLO a few years ago and I really liked playing through it and managed to get a really solid sound with my old Rhoads V so I knew if I kept chasing it it would be in there somewhere. I daresay it's probably easier to achieve in Neural but it is fun to twiddle and fiddle sometimes (as long as you get a result lol)
Why when I record dsp on my daw there is no distortion.? Any thoughts
