Nut Pate . Grind up some almonds, hazels, & cashews, season with some salt, black pepper & bouillon powder, add to them an amount of porridge oats a bit less than the nuts. Add a pinch of herbs as liked, maybe some finely chopped fresh parsley, maybe ground garlic if liked. Boil some water & pour a little onto your nuts & oats & stir thoroughly, add a little more as necessary. You are aiming to make a thick substance that can be roughly, thickly, spread on toast or crackers. A little grape juice can be added instead of some of the water if a little sweetness is desired. Of course the nuts can be varied as you wish. Try toasting bread already spread with the pate for a change.
As an ex-pat who has been living State-side for almost 15 years now, I was thrilled to experience my first visit to Poundland when I flew back to the UK in August. Your video is bringing back memories of my UK summer, thank you! Totally on your side when it comes to coffee! Soak the gammon for an hour or so beforehand and it really helps reduce the saltiness!
Our regular meals: Congee (just keep cooking rice in a light stock until it breaks down into a rice porridge really!) Shan tofu (chickpea flour, water, salt - cook the crap out of it and then put it in a container to set. I usually bake it in cubes with pepper and spices) Watermelon rind story fry (peel off the green skin from the rind, cut up the rind finely, boil it and then fry it with onion, carrot, other veg with garlic, ginger, soy sauce and a bit of mirin. Serve over rice with sesame oil.)
Hi from West Virginia! Today, I'm making a WV-native lunch/snack, pepperoni rolls. A dinner we eat often in the colder months is chicken potpie. Love the videos!
Breakfast bites, one of my favorite budget recipes. Fry up some bacon, like half a 1lb pack of rashers, or even better those cheap bacon pieces, just chop em up! (IMPORTANT! - Keep the bacon fat for later on in the recipe, don't throw it away!) Chop the bacon into small pieces and let cool. While the bacon is cooling, whisk up a few eggs, add a splash of milk, salt and pepper and any other seasonings you like to taste. Grate a couple of ounces of cheese and whisk into the egg mix ( If you like it extra cheesy and can afford to splurge, sprinkle some Parmesan in too.) Add the chopped up bacon pieces and mix well. Coat individual muffin trays with the bacon grease you saved previously, and then pour in the eggie cheesy bacony 'batter' to each individual tray, filling each one to about three quarters full. Top with extra cheese if you have it, and then bake in the oven at about 350 degrees until they begin to brown and a knife pulls out clean. They will puff up considerably while baking, but will deflate when they cool, that's normal. These "brekkie bites" can be frozen for several weeks and used as needed! Great budget breakfast or great to add to lunchboxes!
I really enjoyed the video even tho I'm not from the UK and have never been in a poundland before. My comfort meal is basically pasta with butter and cinnamon but one of my favorite meals at the moment is a tofu tortilla- you cut a few cherry tomatoes and a some garlic and fry it in a pan with some oil, then add grated tofu(around 150 grams) for spices I use salt, veggie soup powder and shawarma seasoning. When the tofu is ready, set it aside and put a tortilla on the pan so it warms up, then add some tofu on one side and close it. The amount is enough for 2 tortillas, I eat it with some avocado slices and a little lemon juice
I've recently been making a meal I don't have a name for... It's Potatoes fried in a bit of butter (Plant based) with onions, mushrooms, garlic and plant based chicken. I top it off with some other plant based cheese and then bake it in the oven. I don't have timings etc as I just wing it! Herbs and spices are transferable also! for comfort food I tend to go for a mushroom stroganoff with about 3/4 types of mushroom in it

Nice meal ideas. Something i cook (in bulk, so i can freeze it and don't have to cook for a bit) on a regular basis: Tacomix on a regular piece of bread with ranchdressing. Construded of a bag tacomixherbs, minced meat, chopped up bell peppers, leek, corn and whatever i can throw in there. And on the side some cucumber for freshness.
For milk. 1 tin of evaporated milk (cheap supermarket brand) and 500ml of water. That is how the GF likes it and that makes 1L. For me that is way to thick so add 750ml. You can also use them to make yogurt. Very simple just need a warm place and a starter. I used Yeo Valley Natural Yogurt as my starter. Once you made your first batch take some of that and put into the ice tray and freeze. Then when you want to make another batch to pop in some of the frozen yogurt cubes. I just pour in a 410G can of Evaporated Milk with 500ml of water into a 1L mason jar with 3 tablespoons of Yeo Valley Natural Yogurt. Boil a kettle and put the jar into a pot and fill it a little with boiling water. After 10hrs you have yogurt. Its that easy to make.

She would make it so tasty I would drool everywhere! I hope you make them, I would love seeing that again as my mom passed away and I am not a very good cook, so I love seeing people make those dishes and have a good time like I did back then with her.

My mums version of a chilli con carne. Minced beef cooked till browned (season with hendersons relish and plenty of it) whilst the mince is cooking, add a diced onion, peppers and mushrooms. Then add in 1 tin of chopped tomatos, one tin of baked beans & one tin of kidney beans (drained) and then finally add chilli flakes to taste. Leave to simmer for a while and then serve with rice! You can also cook them in the oven in a covered dish.
