On Trinidad's sister Island Tobago, everyone's essential beach treat is crab and dumplings, and Miss Trim's is the place to indulge. Here's we find a plate of curried crab atop a large, flat, oblong dumpling that is there to sop up some of the curry. It's a perfect Creole dish: the curry is Indian, the crab comes from local waters, and the dense flour dumpling adds the African touch. Chef Debra Sardinha-Metivier demonstrates how to make crab and dumplings in her kitchen.

Well done chief. Great presentation and your kitchen nice too. The difference I use with my crabs are golden Ray and instead of dumplings I use buss up shot. My wife and family goes crazy when I cook it.

She even uses the the indian words, but I think chunkey means to add hot oil seasonings to a liquid like dahl.
Form a Indo Caribbean family, not Indian so I wouldn't want to deal with all that whole geera swimming around like that, but she did say its not traditional.
Wow Seriously Trinidadians always say they have Syrians and Lebanese as part of the cultural mix, but seriously people a few people that came as business people late in the game is not that much. If they were that much you would see it in the food.
Trinidad seemed like it was always prosperous, because it had Chinese going as late as the 1930's

I use cassava dumplings, and cook them directly into the sauce, so that they absorb the flavour of the sauce, and therefore do not need the small dumplings thickener. Yummy!

Chef Debra, my mouth was watering all through your "curry crab and dumpling" cooking demo. Where I got lost was, you never mention what the quantities of the seasonings were. Great demo. Very simplistic.

sardinha....have you ever spent time in the Bahamas?.Alot of your accent sounds very southern Bahamian.BTW,the recipe looks crazy delicious.We call "blue crabs" in the Bahamas white crabs.

Chef: I like using a bit of shortening and butter in my dumplings. I wonder what is the difference in mine? I even add a little sugar. Thanks for the video anyway. I had curry and crab for the first time last year in Trinidad. I found that it was too messy to eat it. I want to cook it soon but I will only use the claws. It will not be as messy to eat.
