My in-laws bought me this smoker a couple years ago with the wheeled legs. I just love it!! Extremely easy to operate and the outcome is always great. I’ve watched many videos of various smokers and for what I use it I am very pleased. Just wish I had more time to smoke. I usually smoke overnight and don’t worry about temp or anything else. Wake up in morning and meat is close to being finished.
It’s the best electric smoker on the market today without a doubt! Like you said, I smoke with it overnight too. I only smoke pork butts when I have two days off work. I keep the hickory replenished until I go to bed on day one, sleep and then start adding hickory again the next day until the butt hits 201 degrees internal temperature and I remove it from the smoker. It always comes out perfect, since this regular always maintains a consistent temperature.

Well I just made the decision to pick one of these up. Well done sir, I've been using a Little Chief smoker with an insulator bag that my father gifted to me in 2004(he had it since 1985). It's finally started to rust out and since I have mastered the art of simplicity and heartache with the Little Chief, this one seems just as simple with a few more conveniences that would make my life a hell of a lot easier. Thank you!
I bought this last year and I love it. Wish it'd get hotter than 275, buts it's perfect for a low and slow cook. Love this smoker. You can use all types of wood too. Love it. It does get messy though. I'd recommend putting foil at the bottom.
I have the exact same smoker, and I love it. You showed me a couple of thing's I did not know about it aswell, awesome video my man. Cheer's, and keep smoking
I’ve had this unit for about seven years and I am now upgrading to the 40 inch. The 30 inch works great and have smoked some of the best meats I’ve ever eaten but just need some thing a slightly bit larger. Love the video and enjoy your time with the unsmoked. Can’t go wrong with either size.
You must smoke even more than I do. That’s awesome! I’ve smoked with everything from old oil barrels sawed in half to this. An electric smoker is the best way to smoke #1 Consistent temperature #2 No charcoal required #3 Minimal amount of wood chips required to achieve the same smoky flavor

Iv had one for 7 or 8 years love it. Couple little tricks that I do. One wrap water tray, and the drip catch can in aluminum foil. Will not have to clean. Every thing else he said Wright on time. 👍
I have the 30" Masterbuilt digital 4 years, phenomenal machine, excellent results. Recently added the cold smoke box to get longer smoke periods between charges + additionally the cold smoke features. It's a deal maker. Masterbuilt nailed it. I don't believe one needs the $1K, $2k, $3k machines imo.👍👍
I have the cold smoker too and use it for cheese. It’s crazy but I like the interactive nature of the twist and reloading of chips every half hour or so and seldom use the slow smoker attachment. I’ve been around the block with smokers and this one is by far the best and is still performing as great as it did day one! I store it covered outside. If it ever dies, I’ll replace with the exact same model. There is absolutely no reason to spend more for an electric smoker and I love that this electric smoker doesn’t have a window that I have to clean. Cheers and stay tuned for thousands more BBQ smoking videos here soon! #ChefIrixGuy #Masterbuilt
@@IrixGuy interesting comment on the interactivity with the loader at the frequent intervals. I'm okay with it too but I believe the real benefit is in the amount of smoke available over longer periods thereby a longer exposure for the meat, when the smoke box is used. I'll find out soon because I have a party to do some pork & chicken & beans by 8/31. Thanx for the Masterbuilt primers. Store mine as you do and have the same likes on the MB, none better imo.👍👍
I did 4 10lb butts all at once and was a little worried how this same modle would hold up but it handled it like a champ....very happy with this little model
I love mine, but be aware they are susceptible to moisture condensation in control panel. It will disable your controls until you take it apart and dry it. High humidity and 35-40 outside air temp causes the most. Just a heads up if it happens. 🙂
This is interesting to know being a UK BBQ smoker, I just got one of these. And we very rarely ever get high humidity so this master-built 140B seems perfect for me. The only question i do have is whether it is hard to achieve that smoke ring in comparison to let's say a weber smokey mountain?
@@Nike427 the average uk humidity levels are between 87 and 90 , mine only lasted 13 months, stored in a large shed and also used in the shed (Scotland) as others have said on here my controller died, one minute it's ok the next no power ! dont expect it to last long here in the uk, heating and cooling cycles combined with our humidity destroys smokers , i have gone back to a ceramic charcoal smoker for the big cooks and a ninja smokefire oven for convenience and the smaller stuff (it has a 3 year warranty from lakeland so not too concerned now)

I use a 12 inch pellet smoker tube for 6 hours of nonstop smoke. That way I don't have to keep loading the smoker over and over again. The pellets are super cheap too. You can get 30 pound bag for only $20! If I have a large 25 pound brisket I just use two tubes for 12 hours of nonstop smoke once one of the tubes goes out as I like a strong ham like flavor. The main two things that go out is the digital control panel and the heating element after about two to 3 years down the road. I have bought about 3 Masterbuilt's within a 15 year time period.Good thing they are easy to fix and cheap to replace. Cherry wood for chicken and chicken wings is the best kept secret btw! ha ha
Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to check one of those out. Yeah, if I at least get a year out of this one before I have to replace it it would have been well worth the money. If I get a few years, that will be exceptional. This is the best smoker that I’ve owned to date! #Masterbuilt
@@IrixGuy Using the pellet tube keeps the heating element in almost pristine condition because it is not receiving additional heat from any wood chips. Also the heating element adds its own additional heat so the element does not have to work as hard...and you will get an additional year or so out of it.

to prevent the digital controller from failing because moisture gets inside you can disassemble it and put electrical tape along all inside seams, screw holes and wire port. then reassemble and put tape along the outside seam and finally tape the hole on the top of the smoker where the controller wire goes inside the smoker. i have pictures that illustrate this hack but youtube does not allow links in comments?

I always trust the ambient temperature that my wireless probe displays vs. the built-in temperature. I smoke at 225 degrees, so I adjust my electric smoker's temp until my wireless ambient probe is around 225 degrees. #ChefIrixGuy
Link within this video’s description if you decide to purchase :) There is a drip pan on the bottom (removable for cleaning) and it drains out the bottom-rear to an external pan that is also removable and easy to clean. When I smoke, most of my drippings fall into the water pan itself and that also removes easily for cleaning. I’ve never encountered issues with it dripping on the heating element. I still use this smoker several times monthly and it’s the best electric smoker that I’ve ever owned. Granted, there are plenty of much more expensive electric smokers on the market but this is the best one in my opinion :) Be sure to subscribe to my channel and check out all of my other videos of this electric smoker too! #Masterbuilt #ChefIrixGuy
Thank you very much! I forget how low but below 200 degrees (I always smoke at 225). If you need to go lower, you can get the slow smoker attachment for cold smoking cheese, etc. I linked both it and the smoker within this video’s description. Stay tuned…I’ll have to break out a tape measure when it is not raining :)
@y Thank you! I'm actually just looking to use it as a warming oven for long holds around 150. The smoke isn't an issue... I'm really just wondering if a full packer brisket would fit on one of the shelves.
I use the small wood chip bag like a linked within this video's description and refill it every 30-45 minutes or so. It uses a small amount of hickory chips, to produce amazing hickory flavor!
You can cold smoke with the slow smoker attachment. Subscribe and check out my videos of that and I have it and this smoker linked within this video’s description. To smoke cheese and such, that’s how to do it!
I typically never bother smoking the wood chips. I replenish then as needed throughout the smoke using the reloader on the side. Even when I do a 26 hour or so Boston Butt smoke, I end up using an insignificant quantity of chips from the bag.
Don't know if you mentioned this but look at the lower right corner of the door when opened. The seal looks like it starting to fall apart like mine did after only a couple uses. I have read many other similar stories about this smoker.
I’ve had zero problems with this smoker so far but will check that out the next time that I uncover it for my next smoke. If it turns out to be a problem, I’ll definitely reach out to Masterbuilt. Thank you for sharing!
I had a masterbuilt with a window for a year or so. What a pain. I'm buying this model next week. Window looks cool for about an hour. Then you can't see through it anyway haha. Low and slow and leave it alone. 😊
So true about the window in a smoker =). If you buy one next week, please feel free to shop my links within this video's description =). That helps my channel out a lot!
That’s one of my favorite things about this smoker! I set it and forget it. It does a flawless job holding temp and the temp will spike slightly, as additional wood chips are added. I’m not sure about how low but below 200 I think. I always smoke at ~225 degrees.
I’m new to wanting to smoke meat. I’m originally from KC and want to learn to make some KC style Burnt Ends from home. I work remotely on Mondays & Fridays but go into work on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Should I purchase this or get a smoker that I can control remotely instead? As a comparison, what remote control meat smoker do you recommend? I prefer to use real wood instead of pellets. Thanks in advance for the reply.
I never leave the house with it on but I’d recommend this smoker and the wireless probes like I use. Expand this video’s description and you’ll find both links there. Also subscribe to my channel and check out all of my other electric smoker videos too!
I have the same one. It's great. Only thing I would like too change is the ash tray. Be nice if you could take it out without opening the door. Kinda like the same system as the chip feeder.
Honestly though I've never had to dump the ash tray during a smoke and that includes 24-hour ish Boston Butt smokes. It would be neat to have a dedicates smoker box that sits beside it though and pipes in. Masterbuilt used to make something like that for smoking cheese but was it discontinued?
Awesome, and please check the link within this video's description if you buy one. Thanks in advance. I have the cover linked there also. I only use wood chips. They're affordable and effective. You can find the wood chips like I used linked within this video's description and also detailed specs for this electric smoker.
I've had one of these smokers for about 7 months and used it six times and it works okay, not super excited about this unit and it makes me typically go back to my charcoal smoker which does a far better job. Beware if you ever have a problem with parts which I just did, as he digital controller stopped working as a lot of people here have talked about (I kept the unit covered but it was in cold temps with quite a bit of snow) and the part should be under warranty but Masterbuilt put me through the wringer and I just went ahead and bought a replacement off Amazon as I've had enough wasted time and frustration dealing with Masterbuilt. So this smoker and the manufacturer just plain sucks
I’ve smoked the best pork butts that I’ve ever eaten in this thing. They usually take about 26 hours to reach the optimal 201 degrees internal temp. Sorry to hear about your experience.

Do you ever have an issue with dirty smoke? I have the old version of the 30" Masterbuilt and I seem to get dirty smoke a lot in my cooks. I just did 40lbs of Kielbasa over Thanksgiving weekend and It came out with bitter smoke on the casings. How much and how often do you add chips?
Interesting question! You're not by chance using treated wood are ya? =). In all seriousness, I've never had that problem. I always use hickory chips, mesquite chips or apple wood chips....never pellets. It's hard to say...when I smoke a Boston Butt for example I'll feed it every hour or so until I go to bed and then not start feeding it again until the next morning. Even when I smoke ribs or something all day and keep the smoke going constantly, I've never encountered that issue. You didn't by chance clean the inside of the smoker with any sort of cleaner did you?
I smoke so many and I'd have to check. Typically I purchase a pork butt in the 9 - 11 lb range. To visualize, even with hungry eaters, that's likely more than enough for a family of 5 to eat for dinner, break, lunch and then dinner again =). I love pulled pork and have started making pulled pork chili the next day for lunch. So pulled pork with slaw, potato salad and baked beans for dinner, a couple of pulled pork sandwiches for breakfast, pulled pork chili for lunch and then another pulled pork dinner, It's so delicious and never rush smoking a pork butt!

I always trust the ambient temperature that my wireless probe displays vs. the built-in temperature. I smoke at 225 degrees, so I adjust my electric smoker's temp until my wireless ambient probe is around 225 degrees. #ChefIrixGuy
How do you smoke all night if the Woodchips only last a few hours? Or can you put enough in for 8 hours?
Subscribe and check out my Slow Smoker attachment videos. I use that if I want continuous smoke for a long time without reloading.
Thinking about getting this smoker. The only thing that I am wondering is does grease get on the bottom of the element?
Just got one for Christmas. Nice review.
Awesome! I hope that you enjoy your electric smoker as much as I enjoy mine!

Been looking at this exact model here in Australia, think I might go and get one today...
I’m still loving mine! It works great and I store it outside with a cover on it while not in use.
How does the smoker hold up in the winter when it's cold? Is it insulated good enough?
I smoked a 14 pound pork butt in it last weekend…smokes great all seasons just don’t cold smoke cheese during the summer :)
Great video! Could you tell me the lowest temp setting and the interior measurements? Thanks in advance! Totally agree about the glass door btw...
How much wood chips you use for a one time smoke lets say for 3 -4 hours of smoke in low temp.?or how often you load wood chips ?
I use the small wood chip bag like a linked within this video's description and refill it every 30-45 minutes or so. It uses a small amount of hickory chips, to produce amazing hickory flavor!
@@IrixGuyThank You
Does anyone know how low the temp gets on these?
You can cold smoke with the slow smoker attachment. Subscribe and check out my videos of that and I have it and this smoker linked within this video’s description. To smoke cheese and such, that’s how to do it!
Great review, made me change my mind and picked this over a Cuisinart smoker.
Thanks! Be sure to check out the cover and other accessories too, if you haven’t already. I have everything linked within this video’s description.
Do you wet the chips or use them dry? I got one of these for my birthday going to cook a brisket for the 1st time. Just need to know wet or dry chips
Thank you for sharing!
how often do you have to add pellets? Once an hour at say 250 degrees?
I smoke at 225 and add wood chips about every hour. Subscribe and check out my slow smoker accessory. With it, it’s only every 5-6 hours :)
Have you had no problem with the digital display shorting out from moisture like others have had on reviews?
I’ve had zero problems and I store mine outside. I do keep it covered while not in use though.
That’s a nice view you have there! I’m looking into getting an electric smoker. Thanks for the info. 👍
Thank you and they're great! Be sure to shop the link within my video's description if you do! Thanks in advance!
Great video! I think I'm going to buy this. However, I don't think that's how your supposed to use it @ 8:34...
Awesome…I’ve linked it and accessories within this video’s description, should you decide to buy one. Thanks in advance! #ChefIrixGuy
Question How good does it hold temperature?? Also what’s the lowest temp this unit can do down to?
That’s one of my favorite things about this smoker! I set it and forget it. It does a flawless job holding temp and the temp will spike slightly, as additional wood chips are added. I’m not sure about how low but below 200 I think. I always smoke at ~225 degrees.
@@IrixGuy thanks for the reply I’m only looking for one for holding purposes I’m looking for 150 degrees
Just curious but electric smokers can you use charcoal in the wood cup trays?
No you only use hickory chips or other types of wood chips. The electric smoker’s heating element provides the heat.
Can you use wired probes?
Yes! I actually have a wired probe like I use linked within this video's description.
Hi, I’m in Canada, does it work in minus temperatures? We usually get pretty low although bizarrely now in January we’re bereft of snow
I’ve smoked s pork butt at close to zero degrees and it performed well.
Thanks for the review! Answered all the questions I had. What is the largest size of brisket that can be smoked in this?
Awesome, and please check the link within this video's description if you buy one. Thanks in advance. I have the cover linked there also. Since there are multiple racks, you could easily smoke more than one briskets. The briskets that I normally smoke in it are 16 pounds or so. Subscribe and check out my Masterbuilt Electric Smoker video playlist because I showcase various smokes within that playlist. If you have any questions, please ask and I'll try to whip up a video reponse!
What's the highest temp this will get to?
I think 275 or so but I always smoke low and slow 225 ish
@@IrixGuy Ok cool, thanks! .... I'd like a smoker yet I'd like one that gets to a significantly higher temp due to, I'd not only want to use it as a smoker but as an outdoor oven for other things too. Thanks man! Great job on the video!
How often do you have to fill the wood? Every 15 minutes? 30? An hour? Never had an electric smoker and very interested
Usually about every hour or so. When I’m smoking a large butt overnight, I sometimes don’t add more hickory while I sleep and then start adding more hickory the next morning. It still comes out penetrated with hickory flavor. If you decide to order an electric smoker, I have the electric smoker, cover and accessories linked within this video’s description. Thanks in advance!
@@IrixGuy Thank you so much. I'll definitely use the link

How would it work holding meat at 150 like a Cambro?
Not sure the lowest temp that I smoke at is 225.
Can you cold smoke fish with these?
I have not tried smoking fish yet. Check the link within this video’s description for detailed specs.
Do I have to use wood chips or can I use wood pellets on this?
I only use wood chips. They're affordable and effective. You can find the wood chips like I used linked within this video's description and also detailed specs for this electric smoker.
They say wood chips only and no pellets with this model..
I just wanna ask what state you live in, because that background is beautiful.

Do I need to use the water pan?
Always! You can use water only or mix in fresh garlic, onion, apple, etc. to add aromatics too!
Newbie here, is it a lot of maintenance using a smoker? Do you clean it after each use? Any other tips/ tricks?
Easy maintenance. I remove all racks except for the ones that I’m using during that smoke. After smoking and after cooled down, I remove the racks that I used, water pan and bottom drip tray and put them in the dishwasher. It’s super simple to maintain :) I linked the smoker and accessories within this video’s description. Thanks in advance for shopping my links if you order one!
@@IrixGuy most definately! And thank you for details again
Happy new year!
@@IrixGuywhat cleaning solutions do you use for the inside of the smoker?
Is that the 30 or the 40?
It’s the one linked within this video’s description. Thanks in advance for shopping my links and if you’re looking for any specific accessories, just ask :)
That one hour two hour resting time of the meat gives you plenty of time to clean the smoker. What are you gonna be doing during the rest time anyways?
Drinking some Natty Light! The last thing that I want to do is clean and electric smoker’s window.
Are you still happy with it ? I’m thinking of getting one

@@IrixGuy I sell food in my neighborhood farmers market. so I’m looking to learn how to smoke chicken quarters 😅 to pull and make sandwiches Any suggestions ? Thanks again for the videos and response you rock brother.
Is your temp correct? Mines will say 240 but my prob i put inside my smoker will read 200 lol and my probe is accurate it reads 32 in a cup of ice
I only trust my ambient temperature probe.
I bought one of these on the recommendation of a good buddy but he told me straight up, the temperature control and its probe, are garbage. He recommended I buy a Thermoworks Smoke II and I’m glad I did. Once you know your temps, your smoking will be flawless.
@@IrixGuy Too much bark on your wood. Take some/ most off.
That could also be too hot, if you have too much heat it creates a very acrid, nasty smoke

Good job 👏🏼 Brother I love mine as well
What's your favorite thing to smoke in your Masterbuilt? Thank you! #MasterBuilt
Can you tell me again how many lbs the pork butt was please?
I just wish it had a lock for the door. Looks like I'll have to custom built one for it.
If you don't mind me asking, why would you want to lock it? Does it smell so good that people try to steal your pork butt?
@@IrixGuy I'm paranoid. Smoking overnight or at work, with no cameras to see.

DON'T GET the 30-inch Masterbuilt digital electric smoker! I have the model with the digital electric controller on top in the rear. It's less than 2 months old.
I cannot get it to stay on. I My smoker began turning itself off on the second smoke. I filed a warranty claim on MB's website, and MB (Shannon S) at first emailed said they would send me a new controller if I gave them my shipping address. I did, Shannon acknowledged that, and then they sent me an email 6 days later saying I have never supplied the shipping address they had already acknowledged, so MB was canceling the warranty service.
Yikes! I’ve had zero issues with mine. Did you keep it covered, while not in use?
@@IrixGuy Yes, it was covered when not in use. The model is 20070421.
I guess I'm going to invest in a different brand, after this bad experience with Masterbuilt. Any recommendations?

You way over complicated the glass door. It’s worth it. It’s not that difficult if your not lazy af.
I’m not lazy (I operate multiple businesses) but I personally find cleaning a piece of glass after every cool while it’s still warm to be a time suck.
i had one here in the UK, it was utter garbage, only lasted about 8 cooks over a 13 month period then the control panel completely died ? (no power, checked fuses, wiring, took the controller off, nothing obvious.......dead) it only had a 12 month warranty ! would never buy a masterbuilt again
