Ryse: Son of Rome is a 2013 action-adventure video game developed by Crytek and published by Microsoft Studios. Set in an alternate version of Ancient Rome, Ryse follows the life of the Roman centurion Marius Titus as he becomes one of the leaders in the Roman Legion. Gameplay revolves around Marius using his sword to strike enemies and shield to deflect attacks. Execution sequences are featured in the game, which are quick-time events that serve as an extension to combat. The game features a cooperative multiplayer mode, which tasks players to fight against waves of enemies in maps that are changing dynamically.

RYSE is one of the most criminally underrated game ever

I think the opposite. The game is beautiful, but very repetitive. The combat in this game is sensational, but because it's repetitive and extremely linear, you end up getting sick of having to do the same things over and over again, which ends up being frustrating.

Marius would be a true Damocles if he had a sequel. In seriousness, I think a sequel would be great. In another time of the Roman Empire, plenty of corrupt Emperors and Generals in the history of Rome. Also plenty of possible protagonists.
Crytek has always been ahead of it's time with their graphics.
Lord of the Rings game did it first , same concept , siege towers, kicking ladders …. Only the “OG’s” in early 2000 remember this! Best games ever

One of the best looking games I have ever played. I just redownloaded the game yesterday and it’s amazing how graphics still better then 95 percent of game now in the 2024 smh.

This doesn't look like a 2013 game to be honest. The graphics and gameplay was ahead of it's time by at least 6 years.

One of the few games I literally finished in one go. It took me 26 hours of sitting in front of my PC and finished the whole story. I skipped class just to finish it XD

I don't understand how this game plays so smoothly on my old 2017 i3, MX150 laptop, while looking better than games of today that requires high parameters.

This is one of those games that isn't some major hit that left a mark on history. But it is one of those games that you would look back fondly on, knowing that you were there when it came out.

Imagine a Rome 3 TW with this graphic...but what a super- monster of computer or console you have to have to handle this. Imagine a battle with 4 armies (yours + reinforcements, against 2 enemy armies), with 12-14k models looking like this. In original version, the models had around 150k polygons, and the second edition, after optimisation, "just" 85k (but with improved textures). The models in Rome2 TW, as far i understood, typically have 8 to 12 thousand polygons per modell.
I absolutely love games like this all we need is a more open world game that can let you do everything similar to rdr2 without forcing you to do missions and it’ll be fire

A 2013 game have really superb graphics, super impressive, consider gta 5 was also release in same year, this game is equivalent of god of war 3 and even better graphics than modern games, graphics is never issue for me, its feeling that gamer want, and modern games lack of it

Cryengine is prolly the best looking engine of that time. Obviously we have Unreal 5 with updates happening. But new Cryengine will prolly take it to another level !

Men brother really though how do you manage to play this game in 4K? I’ve been trying to see if I can play in 4K but I can’t find anything not even on PC. Can you give me any pointers in how?
I've replayed this 10 times bout all the xtras! The only thing pisses me off are the few glitches were he beats the shield to much and can't stop but once you figure out all the executions its awesome fighting like 10 dudes and sometimes the javelin threw sticks

Kind of interesting how RYSE’s plot about “a guy who used to play by the rules but changed into a ruthless vigilante after being dealt an injustice” is similar to Ghost of Tsushima.

RYSE was definitely influenced by Spartacus. They had all the sauce and all the fighting moves from that show.

The part on the wall with the ladders feels very helms deep in the Lord of the Rings rotk game from 2003. Not saying thats a bad thing at all just it feels inpsired by it. Shows how good rotk was
