I agree on the death pile. I would add that you must have a designated space to work separate from other home activities and a storage area sectioned off from personal storage. Thanks for the tips!
Always great content sir! Got a small win. 4 pairs of NOS Red Wing boots from mid-2000s found on vacation out of state. Paid up for them, bought an extra suitcase for $15 at a thrift store to bring them home on the plane (SWA). Sold 1st pair for $200 plus shipping yesterday which mostly paid for for all 4. Took that risk only after past small wins locally where I paid up and was successful. Keep the wisdom coming!
I'm with you Mike, buy them and put them up. And shipping can make you or break you. So pad the shipping. The buyer may ask to give them a break on shipping and you may be able to short it depending where they live, could be a a deal maker.
You make good points but I would just say to use calculated shipping on everything, as to not using it, because the argument kind of defeats itself when the postal rates change as to why you should use it. Of course I have to pick apart the 1 percent of everything you said lol. Because you really don't have to "know" your shipping if you simply use calculated shipping for everything. I simply wouldn't play games with shipping prices. Whatever shipping costs calculated for any given area...that's what it is, very simple and honest.
Thank you-I appreciate your encouragement and advice. I’m working on all these points, and my strength is my understanding of shipping costs and pricing strategies. But my weaknesses are time-efficiency and my death pile. I’m paring it down with a goal of being at the point of listing the items I source within 24 hrs! I hadn’t thought about how that frees a reseller to find other, new sources. Thanks again!
I'm with you Tonya... I need to first get rid of my gigantic death pile and then once Im back to sourcing again, focus on listing everything I picked up in 24hrs. Great advice from Mike huh. What's interesting is that we already know these things... but hearing them OUTSIDE of my own head is critical.
Hey Mike! NwHillsPicker here! Snowed in.Thankfully as School Bus Driver I have been able to list my death pile! & I have, Clothes Golf Clubs ect.& making sales! Hope you are well with this crazy weather!

My ASP is well over $100 currently. There is no shortage of these buyers. It is the $20 buyers that seem to have evaporated or are looking for a better deal.
Yep, buying just to buy. That's a big one for me. Also coupled with that, buying/sourcing x number of items just so you can list x number of items on eBay to hit your listing goal. If you hit your listing goal but the stuff you listed is low quality with low sell-through rates, who are you kidding?
Thank you Professor Mike. I really appreciate all the knowledge from not only you but Kevin, Troy, Lonnie and the comical antics of NC Dave, You are all on my playlists and I glad to have you all in helping me gain a finacial upper hand.
Another helpful and productive video. I agree with 99% percent of the content and especially with unnecessary debt, spot on. I list every day and like you have the week set up to work on different niches. I will add to set aside every day to get some form of exercise, it works. I will disagree on the subject of death piles or back stock. There are at times rare opportunities for large bulk purchases of certain niches. If purchased correctly, quickly listing some to recover your costs. We have viewed certain large bulk purchases, death piles to some as annuities. Thanks again for sharing and providing great content.
I think I was trying to say that a death pile of a collection etc. was a bit different. Like my video game lot of 80 plus games. Takes time to check them out and get it correct.
The biggest problem with the death pile is the paralysis it causes. You get overwhelmed, then to cure that feeling you want to go out and source more. It's a vicious cycle. I stuggle with that and finding time to list with my current day job. I try to list on my days off, but my distractions get the best of me. I hope to list daily, even if just 3 a day to start. Putting in 1-2 hours after dinner and a good hour in the morning before work. I did just buy Atomic Habits! Sadly one of my bad habits is buying books and not reading them! Now is the time to break that!
Wayward - OMG we are so much alike. I bought the book and only read a chapter a week LOL And I love the way you just described it as paralysis - you hit the nail on the head. And the distractions... dont get me started hah. The list is too long. But I think self-awareness is where change really starts. We will get there! The book says that the root of changing habits is determining 'what kind of person you want to be' and then emulating it. (Paraphrasing ofc.)

Thank you for your consistently open, genuine, and wholesome videos. I've watched other people like "daily refinement" **blows raspberries** - not impressed. Another great video what a great list! The cubit feet comment hit hard. I just sold a vintage lawn chair and I looked at what others charged on shipping but with the rate increases it was way off. From now on I will be punching in the numbers ahead of time on anything large. Indiana to Oregon - Almost $75 I'm working on a smaller box tomorrow to get that down further. Fortunately I got the chair for free but I'll be lucky to break even. You touched on it, but for me personally I will probably stay away from Goodwill Outlets or bins by the weight. Closest one for me is about 1 hour drive and I find I get caught up in the rush and buy more than I typically would.
Good words, nice tips. My problem with the death pile is when I buy a storage unit I struggle with feeling like I have to list everything that might possibly sell. I'm being to figure out I don't have to do that and what sells, what to hang onto. Here's a nice win from today, I bought a PC game at an estate sale for just pennies really. I pretty much dug it out of a box of papers and just that everyone else was skipping over and would have ended up in the trash. Sold it for $225. I super stoked on that one right now
If the item is something with a ton of potential watchers and it is interesting then maybe auction. I just did the Star Trek script on auction and it sold. It will be up on the next video.
I enjoy your videos so much! I always learn something. How do you think about the "median" prices eBay flashes on the screen when you are typing up your original listings? Do you put any stock in them?
Great advice as always. I found I had trouble sourcing lately. Realized I can watch a bunch of free stuff being offer on next door on craigslist in my area. So far it has been working out for me. "find what works for you." As for death pile. I'm like you I don't bring it in unless I'm going to post it within 48 hours. For me I need to keep my storage area organized and clean. So I can't have stuff stacking up. Unless it's getting ready to sell. It's a good forcing function. So you don't accidentally become a hoarder. 🤣
Most things I agree with. However, I do free shipping. Depending on sell-through and better prices from comps, depends where I price mine. And that goes in to condition. Just got 1st edition 1978 Stephen King The Stand gutter T39, HC&DJ (from savers $3). Has a date stamp someone on the main page, price corner is cut. DJ has a handful of small pulls, but mint - no scuffs. Current listed are $400-700 diff conditions, etc. I will list mine nearer to $800-900 BC the condition and issues with mine are less than the other ones listed. However, something that price will have signature confirmation and priority. That's $12+ compared to ~$5 media. I eat the other costs BC the huge ROI. This applies to 99% of what I sell. I'm in it for profit/income. All costs are (always try to stay minimal) write-offs.
All good points. I try to do the same. Last August I had one of my best weeks ever up to that point. The weird thing was I didn't list anything for the entire week. Though I did all the other things I normally do.

Hello, I just started selling on Ebay at the first of the year. I have watched some of your videos and got some great information. What is your opinion on the best way to offer returns on Ebay?
You can either not except returns or except returns. Most, but not all will not except returns. I don't. Doesn't mean the buyer isn't protected. If the item is damaged they can always return the item. I choose to not allow them so they just can return it because they didn't like the item. It is a personal choice. Thanks for the comment
Hi Mike! Great video! I can't think of anything you missed. I wanted to let you know that I have been doing pretty good on Amazon and Ebay. But in the last two weeks, my Ebay sales have slowed down considerably. I don't know is something is going on with the platform or what.
It's a cycle. Up and down. I had some days where it has been slow. Even Kevin Commonwealth Picker mention he had some days. Inflation and tax season is upon us.
Hi Mike. Really appreciate you. Great suggestions! Now art books are expensive. Maybe in the future with books you don't want, you can put in your library's return book bin. Then they can sell or recirculate them ❤ Take care-mary
We love all the knowledge you give!! Look what we found at goodwill bins, limited edition americas cup espresso machine #237 out of only 800!!!! What do you think, it’s missing a couple things but was it worth getting? I can send pics if you want
Hey Mike, do you pre-package everything once you've listed?.. and do you use used boxes that have company logos and marks on them? btw, I'm from Israel.. dying to make it on ebay, love the reselling world, but with shipping costs from here, when most buyers are in the US, don't know if it can work :/
Zohar... a brown paper tape machine - easily covers all of those branded tapes... personally I think it's tacky to fill on one platform using obvious boxes from another... I also have vinyl from one of my sources which cut in strips will cover Amazon tape, make some more distinctive box but I don't have to worry about it getting lost, USPS continuously photographs all of their boxes throughout the postal stream... you can also use a heat gun to remove excess amounts of stickers... certain platforms you can actually have a problem using somebody else's boxes & be accused of dropshipping... like using a Walmart box to ship an Amazon fulfilled by Merchant order... not all platforms care, but why promote someone else's site...LAXVESPA-LOSANGELES
Hi Mike. As always, I appreciate your videos, and each time I learn something new. When you are making a purchase, do you have any minimum ROI or net profit in mind, to determine if you purchase an item?
I want to make as much as possible. EX: $2 to make $18 is okay. I don't want to make $3. So it just has to make sense. I really don't want to just churn money. Also, the sell through rate must be good on smaller profit items.
Hi Mike, love your content! ...Do you happen to have any insight or advise on dealing with / managing book keeping, tax filings & if you think it's a good idea to just set up a specific LLC (just for reselling) from the start? It wasn't such a big deal last time I did ebay years ago, but now with these "new tax laws", 1099k's & ebay's surprise policies (cough, choke)...perhaps it's better to not do a sole proprietorship, but instead, having all the ducks aligned, to avoid being blind-sighted or having to face any serious complications at tax time. Do you know of (or recommend) a good software for profit & loss statements, inventory management, taxes, etc.? (sorry for the long-winded post) Thanks for all your wisdom, efforts & insights!
I just use Quick books, but am very lucky that my brother-in-law is a CPA and has done my taxes for the past 35 years. I also just created a very simple spread sheet using NUMBERS (Mac) I think people tend to over complicate an eBay business. I'm sole proprietor as of now. We have talked about some other ways to go and will again this year. Both ways have advantages and disadvantages. I might talk about this in a video soon.
Hey Mike, great vid! Maybe you can help me out with a recurring problem. I sell many books on eBay and they all go media mail. Around 15% of the time they come up priority mail with media mail whited out, costs me a lot more. Do you know anything about this glitch? TIA, Randy
It's the category the item is in. You have to make sure it can go media mail. EX. Manga if it goes in single comics it might do that to you. So, I always check the category.
Man, I bought a box (medium size shipping box) full of the old style incandescent light bulbs at an online auction for $13. They don't sell for a lot. I listed them a box of 4 bulbs for $10/free shipping. I sold to two separate buyers the first day. I only made a few bucks per sale. Since they were selling quickly I increased the price to $11/free shipping. Still not a lot. Here is the kicker. Bulbs are light. When they buy multiple boxes the profit increases a lot. Someone bought 6 boxes at $11 each. Still free shipping, but 6 boxes shipped together reduces the overall cost of shipping by a lot. 6x11=66. Probably less than $10 to ship 6 boxes. See what happened. My profit went way up. In other words, if you see the old style light bulbs new in their boxes grab them. They sell quickly and are light to ship.
CALKFORNIA .. easy -as you can't buy incandescent or any light bulbs on Amazon- you cannot exclude States , you have to cancel the order which harms for fulfillment and metrics -- so they have to look elsewhere..,LAXVESPA-LOSANGELES
Great information. I recently found your videos. I've been selling for a while now. Unfortunately I was in an accident in December 2021 which caused me to slip with my ebay business. I'm a sole proprietor so getting help has not happened. I was in the hospital 3 times last year for a total of 3 months. I wasn't able to put my store on vacation. I had to cancel several orders because I couldn't get them shipped out. That has now caused my store to be in below standard status. All of my sales that I was able to complete got excellent reviews. Ebay has restricted my business by limiting me to 79 items and a very small dollar amount. I've contacted them multiple times to get that changed. They say that I have to wait until July for that to change. It's been difficult to get sales because of my inventory. I've started selling on other platforms to help. Any advice? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
I'm sorry to hear that has happened to you. Life deals us obstacles keep forging on. Unfortunately eBay is like that very set in their ways and there is nothing I can see that you can do but wait it out. Try to use other sites like you are doing. Mercari is one that you should focus on.
No car no cc No debate except my house. No cc for 17 years no car loan for 15 years. Assets not liabilities. All my inventory is paid for all purchases are from business sales.

@@rjlaxvespa1742 Hey RJ.. thanks a lot.. that's actually a very simple and doable solution. I'll use it.
Great content Mike. Thank you for being such an inspiration during these hard times!
As Johnny Cash said "DRIVE ON" Keep on grinding away! Thanks again for watching
Death piles are a big NO for me. I photograph it and create a draft right away so I can get it put away. When I’m ready to list it, it’s there!
Hey Mike...Can I see a picture of your business card? Just want to get some ideas.
Great video thank you
Great video, thanks
Thank you for sharing this with us.
Thanks so much for watching.
Thanks, Mike!
You make me believe that this is possible, Thank you
It truly is! All the best.
(sorry for the long-winded post)
Thanks for all your wisdom, efforts & insights!
@@goldenstatepicker Thank you, Mike.
If you said the same things in each video, I’d still listen, because you have a knack for motivating. Thank you for giving your time and advice.
thanks so much.
Nice! Thanks again

That's the way to do it. Thanks for watching
Get the site to work properly!!!
I like your content but the amount of ads you have is obnoxious. I would watch more if this were not the case.
I don't control the ads. Google is the one who does that not me.

How often do you answer your instagram dms?
Did you send me one? I usually am slow over there, but I do get around to them.
