A video interview with ex-commercial fisherman Frank Bee who after turning to charter boat skippering did so much to open up and develop the sea angling potential of Morecambe Bay.
It was lovely listening a man like Frank Bee talking about his life experience. No exaggeration, just telling it as it was. I have landed in FD many times since 1960 and made many friends there. One in particular was Bill Hudson, R.I.P., who met his wife in Kilkeel while he was in the army during the war. Bill fought his way through North Africa and Italy with the 8th army and survived. He would never talk about the fighting but had a lot of stories about life in the army and in the distant water trawlers. He seldom got annoyed but once, when a young shipmate asked him whether he had killed many Germans, he lost his cool and told the young man in no uncertain terms to never mention the subject again. We sailed together for years in the 'Eventide', 'Coreopsis' & 'Madame Prunier' and he got a job with the coast-guard after that. Bill was one of my very special friends. His daughter lives in FD now. Hello Ellen I hope you and your's are happy and well, and Hi to all my friends in FD. I have had nothing but good experiences of that place. Bad prices sometimes but good prices too. Our first agent there was "Hazel' fish selling co. Marrs later.
Sorry to hear Frank had passed away. He was good friends with my dad Brian Becconsall. They used to go out fishing in Morecambe Bay with the Mere Park Angling Club. My dad was in The Royal Naval Patrol Service in the war and they used converted trawlers for mine sweeping, he told me lot's of stories about Frank who had lots of great memories. R.I.P
