Casio Budget "Diver Style" Watch MRW200H In Depth Review

  • This episode of the Good Timekeeping Show is all about Casio’s MRW200H-3BV, which is a budget-friendly version of the classic Diver Style watch. This was purchased for a clearance price at a local Walmart store but it can easily be found for about $18-20 from many retailers online. Be sure to check for other color and style variations if you do a general search for MRW200H. This uses Casio’s module 5125.
This watch offers 100 meters of water resistance, a rotating bezel, a bilingual day-of-the-week and date window at the 3 o’clock position and quartz accuracy to within 20 seconds per month (or, in my experience, even better than that!) in a lightweight, resin case. The battery should last about three years before it needs to be replaced.
Although 100 meters is considered a minimum rating of water resistance for any kind of open-water diving, this should work very well for general use even while someone is swimming or skin diving. And its size makes it literally a good fit for men, women and children.
UPDATE: Casio has a larger-than-average version of this watch and I recorded an In Depth Review of that one, so feel free to check out the MRW210H at this link... • Casio MRW-210H In Dept...

I have one of these for seven years now, this happened:
+ Scuba dive down to 27 m no problem
+ running on 2nd battery in 7th year
    + still accurate to +6 sec/month
+ no scratches visible on case, scratces on crystal easy to buff out with polywatch
    - bezel is frozen, can't be turned anymore
    - strap broke. Replaced it with 22 mm soft rubber strap with cut corners 2 mm on each side to fit 18 mm, looks much better than 18 mm strap.

I got one in 2017, I took it trekking around Myanmar, skiing with a few good crashes, a fair share of hits that teenage kid endures at school, I swim at the beach in the surf all the time. I got the battery replaced once and apparently one of the screws was rounded out and I have seen no sign of water damage even with use in the surf. This watch will last you. The battery lasts well and so far I'm very happy with this watch as a daily beat around watch 😀

This watch was one of the best things I've ever bought for $18. The color of it is absolutely perfect for me too. Love the bright green on black, love the band, love the diver style, and it is incredibly accurate, and gives day and date as well. The size of it is perfect as well, not too big, not too small. Can't beat it for the price.

This is a G-shock in disguise. When you open the caseback you will see that the movement is protected in the same way as G-shocks are. I think it is also made of the same resin type. Difference to G-shock is hardlex not mineral crystal and no extra functions like alarm and stopwatch. If you don't really need that this is the best value for money. Period.

Some Walmart stores still have jewelry counters with locked display cases, but I see where the newer stores and newly remodeled stores are moving away from that and not selling any watches which cost more than about $40. Yes, it does feel flimsy. Got one that I gave to my son, but he stopped using it when the strap snapped and I figured it wasn't worth replacing... 😅

I will always own one of these Casios. They look absolutely fine in person unless you’re a watch snob. Get the black face version with white hands and Arabic numerals. The seconds hand hits the indices dead on and it’s insanely accurate. Best watch for the money...literally! And yes, I also own Seiko automatic divers, Swiss dress and field watches. I set my automatics by this watch as it only gains 5 sec/mo at worst.

    The lume is absolutely worthless.

What do you want for 15 quid?

That is a given at this price point. If you need lume, you must get a watch that offers that, my friend.

      @@jeffj318 there’s a video on UA-cam whereby a guy hand-painted hands/indices with some crazy luminous paint.
It was like a torch when done.

@gumbo7215 Here this watch costs close to the equivalent of $50 and I've never even bought a set of pairs of socks that cost anything close to that. $20 is probably the price of at least 5 pairs of socks.

Never had any problems with the 4 bolts, I think it’s much more user friendly than snap backs
