i think its to stop the water from splashing or moving the sand/substrate, or to stop it from mixing up the dirt so much with the water(which could make it very merky if it did)

I have a question, I have a tank full of mollies, just a regular tank. 2 of my mollies are now pregnant and I'm gonna get a new tank so once the fry are bigger I can add them all together. Do you think I could get away making something like this for them, or is this specifically for freshwater fish?
I have to stop watching videos like this. 😑👈 Every time I get the urge to set up a new small aquarium immediately... ...and now I'm slowly getting to the point where caring for all my tanks is becoming a lot of work.😅
Be sure you don't use only sand cause it can compact around the roots and kill your plants. I'm playing it safe myself and just using Java and anubius plants, don't have to plant those guys

Might be a aquarium with alot of plants in so youll never have to give it a full clean just half water changes and vacuuming the waste at the bottom

it's so use less sand, give plants more room to grow their roots and is using a plant substrate under the sand

Sand should work as like as you put some nutrient tablets in the sand, especially for nutrient hungry plants. I like aquasoil but it can be pricy
