Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band formed in 1996 by keyboardist and songwriter Tuomas Holopainen. The band is known for blending heavy metal with orchestral and operatic elements, creating a cinematic and dramatic sound. Nightwish's music often features powerful vocals, epic compositions, and themes ranging from fantasy to human emotion. Over the years, they've had different vocalists, with Floor Jansen being the current lead singer since 2012. The band has a loyal fan base and is considered one of the pioneers of the symphonic metal genre.
"How's the Heart?" is a track from Nightwish's 2020 album Human. :II: Nature. The song stands out for its poignant lyrics and melodic approach, exploring themes of empathy, compassion, and human connection. Unlike some of their more orchestral tracks, "How's the Heart?" has a more folk-inspired sound, featuring acoustic elements and a slightly softer tone, making it one of the more accessible and heartfelt songs in their catalog. The lyrics speak to the listener directly, asking about their well-being and encouraging them to open up about their emotions, reflecting the band's ability to balance grandiosity with intimacy in their music.

I've seen this video dozens of times now and I still tear up every dang time! That woman....she's just something else, I have no words. From this same session (I believe), Floor and Troy do "Nemo." Also fantastic! 😊💙✌🤘
Floor’s techniques, intonation, tone, range, breath control, diction, agility, vowel manipulation and ability to emote each piece is unmatched. Plenty of singers have some of these very few have all.
👍Man,that's so well said,i would ad or say this; Most people start or know Floor with Nightwish(Ghost love score),wich ofcourse is a epic start but,to grasp what was said here, you have to dive into Floors history and you will hear and see her diversity on a high level wich, also in my opinion,is not matched by many other singers/artist.🤘
EXACTLY!!! That's why I don't even call Floor a "singer" I call her a Vocalist!!! :)
In 2019 Floor took part in a Dutch TV show called Beste Zangers (singers singing each others songs). This introduced her to the Dutch public (not metal fans) and springboarded her Solo career. All 8 of her songs were beautiful but the outstanding ones were. Shallow (Lady Gaga) and Phantom of the Opera with Opera singer Henk Poort (the original Dutch Phantom). Her version of Shallow was a revelation and completely different than was expected. You should check these two out.

Rumor has it that Troy's left ear is still ringing after Floor's big belts at the end of this performance.
At least this line:
"Now there's one who came from me
A child of light, another tale"
was written by Tuomas for the GODDESS and HER husband Hannes.
As SHE heard it from Tuomas that its for HER SHE cried.......
Last year, as SHE performed highly pregnant with Lucy, SHE sang:
"Now theres two who came from me"
And I think it was at Hellfest concert, Hannes stood at the side of the stage, and SHE looked at him during parts of this song......
Well dang... that's incredibly sweet.
Glad to see you continuing to react to Nightwish. Liked and subscribed for that.
The live version is well worth a look. It has a totally different vibe. It has a more folky feel, with Troy, who you saw here playing acoustic guitar, playing the Irish bagpipes!
If you really want to see Floor in full power mode then check out her cover of Lara Fabian’s “Adagio”, the ending will blow your socks off!
Added!
Live sounds better because there are not thousands of studio plug-ins.
At 67 years old, I never thought that Karen Carpenter would be the only female vocalist that could bring tear drops rolling down my face! Until I heard Floor Jansen sing! She is without a doubt the best vocalist I have ever listened to...plain and simple!
Somebody said Troy was deaf in the left ear for a week,,😎
I believe it! Lol. I love just how much POWER she has. Dumbfounded by it.
They have several versions of this song: this one, lyric studio version and this performed at the concert with all lights out except audience swaying left-right with phone lights and the rest of the band joining at second half. It sticks in your mind when you see it live.
They also did full band versions live during the Human Nature tour. No official video but there are fan videos of the full song live.
Shallow from Beste Zangers show please !! 🤘🏼💥🤘🏼
I can't help it - I start crying even before she starts singing. What a beautiful human being I I love Floor.
Hi 👋 from the UK 🇬🇧 division of the Nightwish army also check out
This one from floor
Nemo acoustic planet rock
Hi guys, believe it or not but it is said she coming from an other planet. I almost believe it myself. Nice comments btw. Greetings from The Netherlands.
Haha! Heck yes, she is an ALIEN, for being able to do all of the things Floor does. And hey, thanks!!
great, thank you.. and now a live one with the hole band.. I love both versions
My favorite song in my favorite version😍 always super excited when reactors get to this one. It just feels so special and this version is so intimate and intense! Got only topped when I heard it live for the first time last summer towards end of their Human Nature tour with a pretty pregnant Floor rocking out on stage
Enjoyed your reaction! Song is from the 2020 Human Nature album and is Tuomas's tribute to empathy. Studio version is more folk metal with a celtic flair and totally worth reacting to given it's different sound. On the Human Nature album Tuomas said in an interview that he set out to challenge all three singers (Floor, Marko, and Troy) on the album and you can see it here with those rapid pitch changes while also having quite a few words in each phrase. One of my favorite songs from Human Nature is Shoemaker where the vocal melodies are insane and again she has even more crazy pitch changes and phrasing. Supposedly Floor, upon first seeing the vocal lines for Shoemaker, burst out with "where am I supposed to breathe".
Troy's reaction at the end is Epic and he hears that all the time for years and it still blows him away
Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that encourages empathy, offering support to those in need, and finding solace through shared understanding and connection. It emphasizes the transformative power of compassion and the ability to find hope in the midst of hardship.
P.S. This section of the lyrics is Tuomas' gift to Floor & describe how she met her husband & had her first child with him:
We met where the cliff greets the sea
Shared a story, took the leap
Rose up rooted, hid a note
You know where
You`ve been there
Now there`s one who came from me
A child of light, another tale
Dear one
Night will come but not to stay
Why?
The answer`s in the
Fair winds my love
Fly towards the calm
Fly utterly lost
Towards a beating heart
If you wamt too listen to something completly different but also beautiful try AYREON the day that the world breaks down 2017 (the source),and after that the live version of that live from 2023 in Tilburg(the Netherlands You wil love that too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm suggesting there song "Devil in the Deep Dark Ocean" live in Buenos Aries 2018 I really want to see you two's socks get blown off LOL . "How's the Heart" live there is very good also
I ALSO PREFER to watch Floor LIVE!!! On Nightwish recordings her vocals can be toned down but LIVE she goes OFF!!!!
When they play live tou get the BCDE... Band , Crowd, Dynamic Energy
Great reaction guys!
Thank you!! 😁
just epic performance... thx for sharing. ❤
Floor is an enchantress - she draws you in, enthralls and seduces you. Her stage presence and story telling are simply outstanding .... that's why live is best. Whenever I'm listening to her, either with Nightwish or without, I'm either grinning like a maniac or wiping a tear out of my eye. All the very best from the Canberra Regiment, Australian Division, Nightwish Army.
All the music videos for the Human :||: Nature album are excellent, though all but "Noise" are lyric videos and do not show the band. I agree that Nightwish live is always the way to go if a live performance is available.
Germany! After that performance, I think I totally get them, as well as the niche that Nightwish perform in. Perfect band for Floor to be in. Cheers people.
Floor is the creature who stands in front of a wall full of blocks, ticks them all while smiling like nothing happened, and then asks for another bigger wall to fill. It's unreal, she's the most beautiful dream, but true.
Floorgasmes are addictive. You've never had enough. You want one at least a day. And it's infectious.
You need to watch the live Nightwish version. Awesome as well, in full NW metal! To think the woman is sitting, & belting,. She is the best singer in my lifetime, at least for me. Forget Celine, Bette, Streisand b d, or Cher.
Any Nightwish video is worth it
They also did Nemo acoustic. Do check out How's the heart video with all the band.
The full Nightwish version is great aswell especially with the instruments.
Dead boys poem, the greatest show on earth, poet and the pendulum….tearing like a lot, is guaranteed😂
And they had no time to repeat ,😏
They also did Elan acoustic at same recording at Planet Rock
Chiiiiiiils
🥰
I would recommend the entire Human :||: Nature album in album order. Nightwish have all the lyric videos / music videos on their UA-cam page.
Your recorded intro asks if we're interested in bands from ... Norway ..., are you? You like stunning vocals? Give this a listen:-
AURORA - MURDER SONG (5,4,3,2,1) - The 2015 Nobel Peace Prize Concert : ua-cam.com/video/vh0SWTVwXxw/v-deo.html
Now you have to do her cover of Alone
And when you think you've heard it all like i did, i saw her live in Afas in the Netherlands and i can tell you when you hear her live it is even more impressive what she sounds like her voice is out of this word incredible she really can blew th band away with her voice and in is cristal clear so if you got the chance to hear her life.....grab it greetings from the Netherlands
🤘🖤🔥
❤🤘❣️
This angel is one of the best singers (incredible extremely low vocal, dramatic contralto + polyphonic voice) in the world!
Diana Ankudinova
I was stunned to find that the first performance (Show "You are Super") I heard was when she was 14!!!!
She's now 21 (turned 31st May) and still developing. She sings in Russian, French, English, German, Spanish and Arabic.
The covers she performed on that show are very popular on UA-cam. Many UA-camrs publish reactions on these performances, which include "Oh,Darling" (❗10 y.o.), "California Dreamin' " , "Sweet Dreams" (all 19 y.o.), "Can't Help Falling In Love", "Crow", "Personal Jesus" (all 18 y.o.), "Wicked Game", "Human" (15 y.o.), "Derniere Danse", "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" (14 y.o.), "Take On Me" (17 y.o.) , film soundtrack to Dune, James Bond, Spirit of Baikal (all 20 y.o) and others.
Ah, our copy&paste village idiot is trying to scrape some views again, while stalking an artist that absolutely has no repertoire of self-written songs.
In 2019, the two were on a promotional tour for their then new album Human :||: Nature and the tour that was about to start - which then had to be postponed due to the pandemic. It is the acoustic version of the song from the album. At the beginning of the tour, they played both versions alternately. Eventually they gave preference to the acoustic version. At the end of 2022, they replaced it with the acoustic version of a song from the previous album. Unfortunately, there are only fan cams of it:
NIGHTWISH - Our Decades In the Sun - acoustic LIVE || Arena Gliwice 14.12.2022
Floor also did a live version in her 2021 Amsterdam solo concert that is fantastic and professionally recorded. ua-cam.com/video/wtNti7fiimE/v-deo.htmlsi=j_R-0apmHsHJ1EjO. Decades in the Sun is a very personal song for Floor and the band. A tribute to their parents, families, and all the people they love that they leave behind when they go on tour for their fans. Supposedly when recording the song in the studio, on their first attempt Floor broke down and started weeping before she could start singing. They hadn't ever performed it live on their Endless Forms Most Beautiful or Decades tour, I think because they were worried they wouldn't be able to get through it. But in 2019 Samantha Steenwijk did a version in Dutch for Floor on Beste Zangers, inspiring her to perform it live in her solo show. With this successful performance, Floor brought to the band and they added it towards the end of 2022 as you said, I think for the holiday season.
@@rnowak85 I didn't take the Amsterdam version because it's not an acoustic version. The Amsterdam concert is a good recommendation. It was a test of whether a pop solo Floor could be successful. It was so successful that a solo album followed and she is touring with it today - in the Netherlands and DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland)
Thanks ❤❤❤
Acoustic version is missing all the composed elements for the beating heart.
🇬🇧 Norfolk strapped in 😊 Troy is now deaf in his left ear 😂and the smile at the end says everything ❤
