This interview is now older than Rowan Atkinson was at the time. Rowan Atkinson was 26 years old when this interview was made and the interview is now 39 years old
Even though Mr Bean came around 10 years later, you can see the start of the Bean character in the man on train impersonation. A comedian , brilliant beyond description.
Wow this interview is gold dust, shame your tape cut it off as I didnt even known hed been interviewed by Parkinson, Rowan rarely did interviews and this particular one is before Mr Bean and even Blackadder, he was only known for NTNOCN and his stage shows at this point and not everyone knew he did stage shows.
Thankyou for posting this. I made an audio recording of it at the time it was broadcast but this is the first time I have been able to watch it in nearly forty years. Do you have the rest of it? He was about to impersonate Prince Charles when it cut off.
I can't help but wonder if by being a guest on Parky's show, Des thought 'Yes, I could do this' went to ITV for ten years or so and the rest is history. Could you imagine Parky trying to interview Mr Bean, how bizarre would that be?
I sincerely doubt it, as Des had already been hosting his own comedy talk show since 1963, it launched on ITV made by ATV and aired from 1963 to 1971. Des then launched his Des O'Connor Tonight show in 1977 on the BBC before being lured over to ITV in 1983.

Oh my, that's like comparing a VW beetle to a Rolls Royce or a rowing boat to an aircraft carrier or a fart to a typhoon ...and I dearly hope you don't have to guess which is which.
Des saved it, then Ron saved it with the hamburger joke. The poor women of those pre-electric days, expected to put their feet all over the furniture instead of being able to relax and keep their feet on the ground like the so-called 'males' or 'men' (as gviduyrvots or BMCO82s were so-called and so-called in the pre-future).
Sorry what are you dribbling on about? What the hell is pre electric days? She has her feet on the ground during the interview, she clearly just felt comfy with them up temporarily.
Hes actually so handsome..
He is really good looking.
People saying he was hansome, come on guys he still is, even now in 2021.
I actually think he's even better looking now : )
He has aged beautifully. He has always been gorgeous.

You should realize that Rowan Atkinson is also older than he was back then, by about 39 years in fact

In real life he is literally brilliant genius level IQ Its actually quite hard to get that silly ditzy slow Mr Bean out of our heads hahah.
I love that I'm from the same place as this legend
I think people forget how young Rowan was when he became really famous in his early career
Great, thanks for this. Any other Parkinson finds would be much appreciated. How I wish all surviving episodes were available somewhere!
Wow. Thanks for this.

Impersonation of ordinary man on a train never gets old. Sooooo funny.
Rowan is adorable
I'm sure the posh lady is very nice but damn Parkison and Rowan worked hard to dig her out of that one
Very shy at this point and still doesn't like the limelight
He still is shy, he rarely does interviews he's always been a reserved guy
I've always liked Ronan Atkinson but I don't get Mr Bean. Ronan is an intelligent, articulate and handsome man who I appreciated as Blackadder ❤️❤️❤️

Who is that awful woman?
Des O'Conner....Wait, oh... :)
That is Sarah Miles she is an English theatre and film actress ;-)
Thanks. Apparently she drinks her own urine, lol, that explains everything ;)
Miles was married twice to the British playwright Robert Bolt, 1967-1975 and 1988-1995
I recommend watching Ryan's Daughter and The Servant (which she mentions here) to see how good an actress she is. Excellent.
Just like Charlie Chaplin used to do
I bet Rowan himself hates this bit so much. It is terrible.
