When I did longboarding I screwed a piece of cutting board to leather working gloves from the inside. When the screws wore through the plastic it made for nice spark effects with the unwanted side effect of the screws getting hot and burning your palms. 😅 Solved that by gluing another piece of cutting board on top of the other. When it wore through I just pried it off and glued another. Anyway, if anyone consideres making slide gloves, the dirtier the better. They are going to be dragged through dirt and asphalt. 😃 The bigger the puck the longer they last. Yours looks like the fancy and expensive ones you could buy, so well done!
Slide tips: 1. Don't grab between your legs 2. Keep your weight on your toe or heels depending on the slide until you've hooked up again 3. hookup when you're still crouched
I made some using basically the same technique, except I used recycled milk cartons and melted and cast the pucks into mini square-shaped heat-proof casserole dishes. It was quite a lot of work and pretty hectic working with the molten HDPE but they turned out pretty good, although they were a lot thicker which made them heavy, but they last longer.
Thanks for the video! One thing I'm having trouble with: really really tough to get the sewing needle through the glove and velcro. (I got the same exact velcro, and some Milwaukee work gloves) .
1. Thank you for making this video. Saved me from explaining another Amazon package to my wife. 2. Do you think you could have skipped most or all the planing/finish sanding by just using the heat gun or a torch to smooth the texture?
Yo! Hit me up on insta or email, I'm up in Stamford now but I'm trying to get a local group of riders together for this summer. @chrisfromgoodroads or chris@goodroadscollective.com
Yo wth why does ur acc have so little subs and views literally 20 seconds in and I thought u were some famous acc I just never heard of. Anyways great video I hope u blow up soon👌
I'm a maker, just recently getting into longboarding (working on building an electric board!) Few weeks ago I took a nasty fall around 20-25mph, no pads besides a helmet... Miraculously no breaks/fractures, but I wasn't walking for a couple days and the road rash is still healing, especially RIGHT where some pucks would've come in real handy (pardon the pun lol)... These gloves should probably be my next project 😅 Thanks for the vid, I'll def be checking out your channel!!
Put more weight on your hand and less in your feet, so you can control wheel lock up with delicate weight adjustment. Also not holding the board with your off hand gives you more range of movement to adjust weight :) great video! Great idea sewing the Velcro on too - will be doing this myself. I just glue-gunned some chopping board cutouts on in the past and they end up quite clunky so gonna Velcro this time!
@@dusansimic1907 100%, but it wears down faster than a 1$ plastic cutting board from the dollar store, I just didn't have a jigsaw and I had the wood lying around
I like having the finger pucks, you don't have to think as much about how you;re putting your hand down. I've never seen wrist pucks and I don't think I've ever put my wrist down so that seems less useful to me
@@JLoStu42 I don't, I'm not actually that good at sliding, but maybe I can do a persistence type video when the weather warms up and we can learn together
Ur Bord definitely seems to be lacking, but I don't really know. Those gloves are sick, thinking of making my own pucks myself. I slide with both hands down but I'm weird. Videos on my channel.
You 100% don't need a planer. You can use whatever surface comes on the cutting board and it all gets roughed up by the asphalt anyway, it'll still slide great. I just went a bit over the top with this one

This is great! Specially in my country where you don't find these type of gloves. Thanks a lot!

Thanks dude! I'll try those out next time I get out there
I love the extra steps
Thanks so much for sharing this! Planning to make a pair of slide gloves this weekend now!
thanks .gotta go to supermarket to buy one cutting board now
big wide set up carves before the slide help out a lot

Sick! Working with recycled plastics is definitely something i want to give a shot at some point
dude you just saved me a lot of money in pucks
My last pair was made from hot glue and legos.. they lasted like 10 minutes so thanks for the tutorial!

Awesome video. I'm in the process of making some slide gloves right now so this helps out very much. 🍻
Glad it helps, good luck with the gloves!

No problem! And yes, you can totally skip most of the post-processing I did on the pucks
Haha no way you skate twenty minutes from where I live. I was thinking that spot looks way too familiar lol!

We used leather work gloves and jb welded road reflectors to them, worked great for poor highschoolers
good to know what the industry stander is . . . loops on the gloves . . . very helpful THANKS!

Bit of jello in your video. Is it from the heat haze on the road?
Yup! Shot this one on a scorcher
Just found some cool leather work gloves hoping to try this out.

Thanks master! You reckon the glue from the Velcro to the glove is safe enough? Or would it be safer gluing it with say contact adhesive?
I think the adhesive on the velcro would work alright but contact cement would 100% do the job. That stuff is beastly
I just hot glued wood to gardening gloves from home depot lol
lol does that work? I wanna try it out

You can get free samples of countertop material at HD that make really good slide pucks. They're a little heavy but they last forever
@@GoodRoads so same thing as the video but instead of cutting board you use counter top?
Are you going to make a video on making cheap soap shoes or no.
Because if no, that's understandable
Hahahaha, I never thought of that! What a trip, I don't know anything about shoe construction but that would be a crazy project to try to tackle
Thank you my guy
how thick is the pucks ?.. may i know?.. thanks...
Maybe a half inch? Any cutting board will work though, thinner ones just wear out faster
@@GoodRoads thanks..
Is it worth going the extra mile and doing ones for the fingers and wrist?

Great content!
do you think using a glue gun instead of velcro would also work out? I am thinking of buying a cutting board and make it into plucks haha

Precarve
Brilliant :)

100% I'm working on it!
Slide gloves: $25 for name brand. $50 for something graphic. Why do this for more than $25? Doesn’t make sense to me.
It's fun to make stuff hahaha! Honestly I didn't know factory made gloves were that inexpensive, good to know!
They’re definitely not that cheap 😂
