Here's a list of great boards for sliding - landyachtz.com/cat/learntoslide/ Want to learn slides on a Cruiser board? Check out this video ua-cam.com/video/XSGa3TQHtLo/v-deo.html
This is a great way to show people how to slide. A lot of videos just show people who know how to slide just doing it, and explaining how they did it. I think its really good that you showed some people actually learning how to slide for the first time, then addressed exactly what went wrong. I'm sure a lot of people have similar issues trying to learn sliding, but I never see any videos showing those specific issues in action. So this is giving them a great visual representation of what a lot of people are struggling with, and a more direct explanation. On top of that, Alex is mentioning a lot of things other videos aren't mentioning. Also, Stickerbrush Symphony
Alex is honestly such a great teacher. He's encouraging and gives specific advice. This one video has been more helpful than a dozen others on sliding because it really simplified it down to what you need to do and pay attention to as a beginner. Thank you.
I’ve been sliding for years and he still taught me a thing or two about my form. I’ve been doing things sloppy and I’m excited to get out there w the new mentality he gave me about leaning forward and keeping your back knee tucked down during heel sides. Also, pointing the back foot forward during toe sides looks very beneficial. Me and the boys taught ourselves but this would’ve helped us growing up.
Alex, you are an amazing teacher. I am 54 and learning to longboard. I used your 'pre-carve' cue and it really helped me to learn to slide -- still learning!! Thanks!
I'm 35 and sometimes question if I should be trying to learn to slide. I've road rashed few times already but am totally hooked. Love hearing I'm not the only full on adult still trying this stuff. Inspiring. Thanks
More power to you guys!!! I am nearly 49 and fell in love with snowboarding last season and it is now my favorite sport. I also started longboarding this summer. It is never too late honestly!!!
41 years old here. Started again last year. I just try to identify my limits and ride within them. I push them very carefully. I just faceplanted once so far when I ignored my own advice 😅
Yooooo Landy, thank you!!! I just came back from a park hill and i did it! its been two years without knowing how to slide and today i just went full out, i lost the fear for the speed because now i can slide the shit out of my board, i got confident and went full down that hill, slid full body out like a push-up, i slid like 10 full metres! Thank you so much whoever this guy is, you are an amazing teacher and thank you Landy. I just need to practice stand ups more because i still cant do them properly but my boy, i can slide gloves down like i never did before
This dude is always so friendly and is such a good teacher! He just loves what he does and is willing to teach others how to do what he loves, and it's dope It's so awesome when the greats teach others how to also be great
I hope John is happy with his portrayal, because his experience helped me alot with my own issues! It's refreshing to see a realistic portrayal of beginners learning
Dude is a great instructor. Point out a mistake while noting the positive (student's commitment) and offer a correction. Good stuff. This is a good technique for teaching people that can apply anywhere.
I don’t comment on things usually, but all last summer I tried learning to slide and just kept getting owies. I watched all kinds of videos, and I typically catch on to things really easy and fast and I just could not grasp it. I watched this one and literally went out and was able to do both heel-side and toe-side hand slides. I think it really helped watching people that didn’t really know how to slide actually learn and you coaching them. Tons of details I’ve never heard before. You should do more instructional videos. Thank you.
No disrespect to longboarders or anything. As a street skater, its pretty funny seeing a longboarder with a crazy man's "tinfoil hat" style helmet. Gave me a chuckle. You guys are definitely gnarly in your own way. I've seen some of those crazy downhill videos. Respect.
Got a new longboard after skateboarding for a couple of months. Bombed my first hill and I couldn’t slide to stop , so I fell scraping my right knee creating a deep wound . So this video is very helpful, I’m out for a month but I’ll be back , love this
I’m 25 years old and I never even thought of riding a board until I got recommended a Landyachtz video a month ago. You guys produce the best videos ever and are BEAST at sliding! Now I have a “meowjuana”tugboat and I’m in love with it. I’ve been waiting for a tutorial about sliding from you guys. THANK YOU GUYS!
Without doubt THE BEST slide tutorial on UA-cam. Alex is so patient and positive, and clearly just out to get people skating and enjoying it. You guys should to an ollie tutorial too!
Of all the slide videos I've watched, I like this one because you have relative beginners doing it with you, which gives an idea of the mistakes you make, and what it might look like as you learn.
You are the best Hannigan!! I’m on my 34 years old and I am doing more now than when I was 15. Thanks man and Landyachtz to give us this. So much fun with my Dinghy and my longboard. Best brand ever.
OMG! I CANT WAIT FOR THIS PREMIERE! Landyachtz has been all that i've been watching these days... i've got 5 second hand boards from them since they've been out of stock... Can't wait to get there dance boards soon. Learning slides has been fun but having them teach is going to be a trip! :3
Been practicing slides without much progress the past six months. Watched this video and within a week I've hit multiple hands down slides. Great stuff guys thank you👍😁
I just bought a Landyachtz and i'm so stoked! I am excited to finally have a longboard after wanting one for 9 years, I made the commitment and now I'm ready for the journey ahead.
I hate LY...these videos have made me go out and purchase not one but two LYs already!!! 🙈 But big thanks to Mr Hannigan (and the r video team doing this series) - imho, these instructions are very good!
Hands down the best video on yt on how to slide. Also saw another person suggesting a a "truck setup" video for different riding styles, i think thats a great idea! Much love!
Fat 37 year old beginner skater here. ✨Wow. This video just enabled me to slide for the first time ever. ✨Literally been watching videos and trying for weeks and haven't managed to actually slide even once. Never even managed to slide a little, nor get a puck on the ground while moving. It always just seemed impossibly dangerous and scary, like I wasn't ready yet. Immediately after watching this though I was able to make clear and safe progress towards sliding, and after some attempts I was eventually able to slide my board for the first time! Amazing. Thank you so much. I will also mention that it started raining lightly while I was doing this and that might have made it easier to get that crucial first slide. Seeing the pushup slide is possible *at low speed* was the enabler, that allowed me to find where the board loses traction without feeling like I needed to risk major injury doing so. Go slow and trust the pucks, worked for me. Also really, really helped seeing John trying and failing, then eventually getting it! Inspiring. Gave me the confidence that failure didn't mean I was missing some mystery intermediate skill, and if I keep trying I'll eventually get it, and I did. Seeing the ways he genuinely did it wrong then showing how to fix it was also so, so helpful. There's a subtle but important difference between seeing beginners making genuine, real mistakes and experts intentionally making "fake" mistakes. Also appreciated the quick note on the foot position, this helped me notice my board has indentations and I feel far more in-control and stable once my feet are placed correctly. Thanks again for all this.❤
This is BY FAR the best tutorial video online! A couple of years ago I tried longboarding, but never really got it. This video gives the basics that I never knew before. Watching this inspires me to want to give it another try (I'm an old guy). I still have those slide gloves somewhere......
Alex Hannigan is a very good teacher, I will watch this video again and again until my slides have perfected, he gives very detailed information on key points, not just the way of doing also where the mistakes are coming, very much encouraging, helps overcome the fear thank you 😁👍
Been practicing heelside coleman's for the past 3 days and been very successful. It's a lot of fun! I've watched this video multiple times as it's a great tutorial to be able to dissect. Looking forward to mastering the heelside glove slide and then moving on to toe side glove slides. Just gotta start practing riding switch also!
This was a great video. Even though I’ve been longboarding for 10+ years it’s nice to go back and re-learn the fundamentals. Can’t wait for the weather to get warmer to start practicing. (Also I loved Johns attitude through the video even when he struggled he took it in stride and laughed through it. Love it!)
I like how you got people with 3 lvl's of skill to demonstrate this. Although I can slide all i want on a skateboard and I longboard quite a lot I never get them to slide and you just motivated me to learn them!
My favorite Canadian. I taught my friends how to skate and Alex taught me how to slide, definitely passing on the knowledge. Thank you for showing mistakes instead of just doing it and hoping we pay attention!!!!!
So I just bought me the DINGHY COFFIN COCKTAIL board. I always wanted to learn how to do powerslides, years of riding cruiser boards and just carving and cruising but never really doing the power slides. This video helped me do my first ever control power slides. After a couple of falls. I finally understood and now I can’t stop doing them. The board is great for tricks, which I’m also learning to do. Today was day one with the board and I couldn’t be happier.
Alex is the best teacher: he's great at watching people skate and articulating how to improve. Someone said he would also be a cool guy to hang with for a day- agreed! These are great videos.
Best slide tutorial on UA-cam... by far! You you also do a pumping tutorial please!!! I am getting frustrated with those short videos of people just showing of that they can do it but not HOW to LEARN it! Please!
Landy, this video is goooold! Im nearly giving up longboarding because i cant slide for nothing in this world but im going out today to experiment a little.
Best video of Landyachtz ever....A little advice is to have a worldwide shipping more cheaper because for example to peru cost 99 usd or have an ambassador
Super Old Guy returning after a long hiatus. Have a spot I've been skating, but skipping the super steep part (no helmet, need to buy) till now. It's the perfect spot (long cruisable, carvable downhill), close to home and now you've given me and (my friend "70-80s freestyler") some alternatives for our "Senior Sessions". Much appreciated.
Really well taught! Want to give this a try on my Dinghy, just about learned the 180 slide on the toeside... after a couple of bruises on my tailbone. Also, loved the Check it Out music thrown in at the end!
Video has taken me from getting back into boarding after a half decade to getting 3 of these down in 3 days. Great video, great personality, wonderfully broken down.
For anybody wondering why they can’t seem to get it right, there’s a good chance that your wheels are too sticky for sliding at low speeds. For about a week I have been confused as hell, and I started attempting these slides at higher speeds and began making progress. The puck slides are not that scary at high speeds
THE most helpful longboard trick video I’ve found. You teaching real people that don’t know the trick is a huge help in this video that I don’t see in pretty much any “learn this trick” vids. The way you teach and describe motions and terms is also very helpful. The good camera quality and view of the long boarders is great as well. I hope you remember these and continue making videos like this. It really helps those that genuinely want to learn new longboard tricks. Thanks✌️
Landyachtz puts the team on their back, honestly. So vital for the longboard community. Great boards, and the best longboarding UA-cam channel. I’m a huge fan.
This is the first time I've watched an actual video but for basic hills I just put a foot on the floor to stop myself from gaining too much speed and work up you won't need to do this for a while, its like learning to kickflip without being able to ollie
This video is a fantastic resource to keep coming back to. I keep coming back either to reinforce what I've already learned or to review knowledge of things that aren't quite there. Thank you to LY and Alex for putting out this extremely concise and informative "how-to". Maximum meat with zero BS.
Son, I’ve watched every slide video on the internet. I’ve probably invested 2% of my life to watching slide vids on the internet. I think this slide vid tops it. Basically son, thank you for this great slide vid. Personally I prefer skating an ATV or a reg skateboard because I’m a chump. But I promise you that I will treasure these skills and talents that you have handed over to me. Because I’m not a goofy dude, hopefully I don’t forget which foot is left and which foot is right though. Thanks son.
I've watched a dozen videos on how to slide, and this was probably the only one that was more than people showing off. I've now got my pushup slide down, and this video has helped me to realize that my heel-side carve game is too weak to even start trying to slide it. Thank you! Special mention for 2:21... This 5 seconds of footage is pure instructional gold!
The longer and thicker your board is the more effort will have to be taken to initiate the slide, you'll get it in due time just keep practicing to get the form down
@@chaoticdestruction87 Hey, I am about to purchase a Landyachtz drop hammer 36, do you think it will be decent for sliding? Also, do you know if all wheels work for sliding?
@@darylokeke1887 That board should work,I ride an arbiter that's around the same size in length I slide just fine. Wheels are dependent on durometer the higher it is the easier the slide but it all depends on your skating preferences, you can have fat wheels but they are more grippy when breaking out those slides,it's all on preference and what you like.
Video is superrrrr helpful. It’s lengthy and involves people who also don’t know what they’re doing. I often try to follow in the footsteps of people who are experts and they make it look so easy
Great video, thank you! Edited: Also, props to John for not doing slides from the first try so we have that greatest explanation of what to try and how to fix issues with sliding.

i agree it was very very useful and made the entire video incredibly viable
So true! I'm back to re-watch this, If only I had an instructor to teach me.
I've been trying to learn for weeks and I actually understand what I'm supposed to be doing with this video, the other ones are a lot more confusing
Agreed. All the mechanics explained and demonstrated clearly. Sliding 101.

Best slide tutorial, in the whole universe propably.
After going through a few nah. Definitely the most entertaining, but he misses out so many vital details

This is the first time I've watched an actual video but for basic hills I just put a foot on the floor to stop myself from gaining too much speed and work up you won't need to do this for a while, its like learning to kickflip without being able to ollie
@@nivenisrael1565 on foot is how i do it for any hill.
Man these longboard videos are so wholesome
Who else watched this 10 times before they got gloves and 10 times after they got them :p
This video is a fantastic resource to keep coming back to. I keep coming back either to reinforce what I've already learned or to review knowledge of things that aren't quite there. Thank you to LY and Alex for putting out this extremely concise and informative "how-to". Maximum meat with zero BS.
Is there a specific reason why John switch board from Drop Cat to Switchblade? Are some techniques harder to achieve with the dropcat?
The drop cat in unsymmetrical
I think the wheels he had on the first one were too grippy
Son, I’ve watched every slide video on the internet. I’ve probably invested 2% of my life to watching slide vids on the internet. I think this slide vid tops it. Basically son, thank you for this great slide vid. Personally I prefer skating an ATV or a reg skateboard because I’m a chump. But I promise you that I will treasure these skills and talents that you have handed over to me. Because I’m not a goofy dude, hopefully I don’t forget which foot is left and which foot is right though. Thanks son.
Someone like my comments so I can do this tomorrow morning when I go home
I've watched a dozen videos on how to slide, and this was probably the only one that was more than people showing off. I've now got my pushup slide down, and this video has helped me to realize that my heel-side carve game is too weak to even start trying to slide it. Thank you!
Special mention for 2:21... This 5 seconds of footage is pure instructional gold!
Trying to learn how to slide with drop cat38. It’s hard :(
Agreed. Been having an easier time starting on the Dinghy. DCat38 is a lot to swing around.
Skateboarder guy already has the foundation, this is harder than he makes it look.
Great video, thank you!
Edited: Also, props to John for not doing slides from the first try so we have that greatest explanation of what to try and how to fix issues with sliding.
I thought you guys forgot about this video...
they always make it look so easy, give you confidence, then you try to do it and it doesn't go so well. great video though!
"trust your slide puck"
I've been betrayed by my slide puck and had the glue separate from the puck, caused me to dislocate my shoulder
love the attitude these guys had while learning. I saw huge improvements in just 1 session from both
Where my goofys at?
