Airbnb was never supposed to create hoteliers. It was supposed to be for people with maybe an extra unit that they wanted some extra cash from and it got bastardized so fast that the cities had no choice, but to regulate it. That's the problem with good things it only takes a few people to really destroy it. I had a friend that was able to supplement his apartment for 2 years in LA by renting it out when he left, but that got shut down real fast when a couple of people staying there partied too hard. And again that's just proof of how it doesn't take a lot of people to ruin something good.
Yes! Being from San Francisco where AirBnB started out...I remember the founders saying it was supposed to be a way to make money if you had an extra room in your home for someone in the city for a couple of days...a more sophisticated way of couch surfing. I often wonder if they planned for AirBnB to explode the way it did or did it take them by surprise?🤔
I think Sam should move full time to California.

The texture of the wall is relatively easy to do. An experienced painter can do it for you. Just add sand to the paint and be consistent in your motion when applying it to the wall ( hence experienced painter). An experienced painter might have more tricks but probably would cost more. Before 1950-1960, the walls were "old plaster". That is another level.

Shelby! How do you keep your hair shiny? Do you get keratin treatments or extra treatments when you get it blonde? As a fellow blonde, my hair is kind of brittle and dry. If not what kind of shampoo and products do you use? Maybe a hair upkeep video, please? 🙏🙏🙏
You guys are way more understanding than I am. If I've booked an airbnb, I've probably drove at least a couple hours to get there and have things planned even if that is to just chill in the hot tub.

OMG, a guy jumped in front of your car??!!! Did he just get up and walk away afterward? It sounds like he was waiting for an expensive-looking car and planning to sue you if you hit him? (Assuming he would live!) So sad that AirBnB turned into what it is now. Used to truly be people who just wanted a win-win situation for them and their guests. One has an extra home or room and the other doesn't want to stay at a hotel and is offering a fair price. I've had so many great experiences with them in the past. Now it's all hotel-like. "and can you finish painting this room" LOL!! I agree that first house has character, but is dark. I'm really glad you chose L.A. because your family is there and you love the weather. And you can spend time in New York any time you want--perfect! I still would like to live there for a year.

I've recently heard so many stories of people jumping out in front of cars. If someone jumped in front of my car, that would freak out!
I went on an alpine slide in Colorado! Went to fast and fell off at great speed! Got friction burns and the next day could hardly move. Will never forget!!

Great vlog Shelby! The house was cute definitely lots of potential, the backyard was the best part of the home. I'm glad the Airbnb worked out in the end, and that Sam was there with you. You are more gracious than I would have been! The little clips we saw of the car were so cool! Big Bear looks like a nice place to go with all the trees etc. the shot of you working at the desk with the trees behind I can just picture the snow and fairy lights and how cozy it would look in the winter time. Random question but have you ever been to Leavenworth in WA? That place from photos looks pretty interesting. Makes me curious about what the top nicest coziest mountain towns are in the country.

The housing market is very hard to predict at this time. What I can say is be open minded. Remember you marry the house and date the interest rate. You can always refinance when the rates go down. Houses are not selling well right now and you might be able to find a good deal. If you can find some thing and offer 20% under asking for a house that’s been sitting on the market you never know, the seller might actually take it . Just be open to all possibilities.

Big bear is almost always icy so bring a butt pad if you’re a newb for snowboarding or skiing lessons. It’s also very crowded because it’s so close to LA. If you can afford it mammoth may be a better bunny slope to learn on

Really like that place. I would much rather buy a historical Spanish style home than some new construction with no character!
i live in a college town. When they open the garage door to those 3 bedroom 2 bath townhouses, you see 5 bunk beds in the double car garage. That is so sad that workers have to live in those conditions in America. In the 1980s, people working "essentials" barely above minimum wage jobs could afford a small apartment WITH W/D. The Monopoly Game economy started taking off in the mid-1990s. so did homelessness everywhere. At the end of the monopoly game, one person owns everything and everyone else has no place to live. No need to renovate the garage. Just put bunk beds in there. That is how things are done now. Where will the renters park their cars?
For the uninitiated why can’t you mountain bike in Big Bear this time of season? Just curious.
How’s the drive to big bear? Is it alot of scary winding roads?
NZ has been ahead of the current global house price cycle by about 6 months, because our central bank aggressively raised interest rates ahead of most other countries. House prices dropped by about 15-20% in the past two years. But rates have plateaued for a while and house prices have been increasing since May and some economists are predicting a 10% rise next year. Every market is different but don’t be surprised if yours picks up sooner than expected.
You can always put sunlights through the roof.
So what did you end up rating this Airbnb?! That is a wild experience, and IMO shouldn't deserve 5 stars 🙈 (and I'm an airbnb host)

my opinion and past experience is never try to time the market, its so hard and more than likely you cant predict. I have a friend that waited and used his money to invest in stocks and looked what happened. prices practically doubled and rates sky high. I say look for a place you can afford and if you want it and need it, buy it.

I’m told by an “expert” that virtually no improvement to interest rates will occur until at least Q2 of 2024. (For what it’s worth, the guy is a Doctorate of supply chain analytics (essentially) that looks at inventory levels economy wide. There is still too much inventory and too much spending. Apparently we’re still spending like we’re members of Congress. My personal prediction is no change will occur until the political climate/party in charge changes. By the way, I agree with Sam, you look good in the Beamer.
They don't want people to buy houses - they want us to rent. Interest rates will continue to increase - and homes in Southern California are holding steady at high prices. Not much inventory and people are getting laid off by the thousands.

I get the sense that you have developed luxury sensibilities so you'll never really be happy in something like a 1930s original LA house and then to pay a million dollars doesn't seem like great value. You can renovate but that's just even more money into something that will never be really good. I think looking for a tear down for 650k and build new is way more interesting. When you are LA poor and only can afford a million dollar home :) brand new modern is just so so much better. It's like why suffer an old BMW when you can get a Tesla :)
Were you driving the BMW when the guy wanted to be hit by you? That is interesting. if I was to make money being hit by a car, I would pick a brand-new EV BMW. Sorry that happened to you. Enlightening however sadly not surprising in these times. That is why the "Shelby Vlogs" are my " escape fun " show of the week.
You buy a house for privacy. not to have renters living with you! That is weird. You get up in the morning to do laps in your pool naked, with Sam because you can, it is your house, your kingdom ( no hoa fees of course ) and there is your renter enjoying his coffee with his girlfriend by the pool. Buy a block full of rentals if you want to make money. Or do an Etsy business. The "mother-in-law suite" of the first house you are looking at is for your living parent to live with you when your other parent passes away 15 years from now. Statistically, that will be the age. Or it can be the living quarter for the nanny when you have kids. Why have renters living with you at your million-dollar personal residence?
Also, you never get rid of closets! you will use them. People accumulate stuff as they live in their houses.
.Business idea for you. Build a storage unit place! Renting a 4 ft by 4 ft cubicle at those places is easily $200 a month. Not exaggerating. You just need to make sure to build dry and clean. no moisture, no rodents.
Future video? what makes more money: Renting an addon next to your beautiful pool in a million-dollar house or being a storage unit owner. Just my two cents. 😉😘Love Sam pushing your brand today. Good BF. 😉
