- Some people are unhappy about the recently announced increase in gratuities on a cruise. This is just one reason they deserve an increase! Our head waiter on Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas went out of his way every night for us. He even cut my daughter’s steak for her.

My son has special needs. We never ask them to do this - but they always do - it’s appreciated.
In such circumstancea the pàrents should take turns to cut his food.
Phuck that if you can't take care of yourself or your own then you shouldn't be allowed in public. Everyone is expected to carry the burden of someone else's issues and problems when they themselves aren't willing to try.
If you have a child with mobility issues when it comes to eating, then how about this,you order it's food according to its abilities.

I have a disability where I have no dexterity with my left hand so I would very much appreciate a waiter to do this for me. When I was younger though I was very self-conscious and I would never order steaks so I wouldn't have to ask my mom to cut my meat in a restaurant. Now that I'm 61, I don't care

There are common motor coordination / learning disorders such as dyspraxia that can make cutlery, steak knifes more difficult. You may never realise and consider it as clumsy or decide to shame, call pathetic.
( I have no personal knowledge that is the explaination here ) However I have been laughed at and the clumsiness story retold on the evening, later for entertainment, critique when dropping cutlery in restaurants.
Or other medical conditions just not obvious or wish not to disclose / undiagnosed.

He came up and said, "No, no, no, like this!" He then picked one off my plate and put the whole thing in his mouth in one go. We were astonished, and because it was so funny we all burst out laughing. He was a bit theatrical, and possibly under the influence.

It was. We try to make sure we eat at the same table with the same staff each night because we love developing those relationships with them and they always make it so special for my kids. We always budget in an extra tip on top of the regular gratuities for our wait staff and room attendants.

I went on a cruise once and they just came up right behind me and my family and cut our food. Being like 7 or 10 I felt so uncomfortable because it just felt too extra. The Maitre d on the cruise liners I worked on was a specialist at preparing dishes at the dinner table. He always got the best tips but used to take us all out for a good 🍻when we got into port

Eating too much fast food, now I can see why McDonalds is the number one fast food restaurant. As a child in the 70's fast food was a rare treat, we always ate our (healthy) meals at home made by my mom after she came home from work. You never realized how much she did for us and how effortless it seemed at the time..

In Mexico many years ago, our waiter was very attentive. He was almost invisible but, if anyone at the table needed anything he was, all of the sudden, at your elbow. Great guy.

My wife was extremely afraid of knives when we met and started dating. She would only use a butter knife for everything. Even on steak which she and I both love. I eventually got her comfortable with using a steak knife and other types of kitchen knives. Just some quick lessons and explanations helped her a lot. Fear of the unknown can be crippling for some. Fear(injury),Embarrassment(not doing it right), Comfort zone(this still works for me) are strong factors in someone’s decisions. I prefer to “help” instead of hinder or laugh at people.
