Love Greg Boyer, and he has been in the game so long and paid so many dues. Was so happy for him when he got with Prince but it was sad not to see him with P-Funk for those years. Now he's back with P-Funk for how ever many shows they have left, and it was wonderful to see him still doing his signature kicks while he plays.
Great interview!!! I love Greg Boyer, too. :-) There is a little episode about Maceo. My partner and I went to see ONE NIGHT ALONE concert in Osaka, Japan. Right before the show started, my partner went to the bathroom. When he came back to the arena, the houselights were already dim, so he had a hard time reading the number of his ticket. He saw an African-American man wearing a suit. He thought he was one of P's staff, so he asked for a help to find his seat. Later, on the way back home, we were looking at the picture book of the show. All of a sudden, my partner said, "Oh! this is the guy who helped me finding my seat!".... It was Maceo Parker. lol He didn't know his face. So, yes, Maceo comes to the aisle before the show. Maceo was very helpful to my partner, said he.
Thanks Oneself that is a great story and happy you and your partner got to see Maceo's kindness. As Prince once said, Maceo is as humble as they come when he saw Maceo ironing his own clothes before a gig.
He yelled Ice Cream when I saw the Parade Tour in 86 during Mutiny. There's a rehearsal on the Sign O The Times Deluxe Edition where he says that as well.
@@n34z3r right. Forgot about that. It was during Mutiny when he yelled it during the show. They sang part of Ice Cream Castle and then he yelled Ice Cream.
That “Black Sweat” groove, I always assumed that was just something Prince sequenced on the Yamaha Motif he had backstage. You can see the keyboard in that clip.
Thanks Mitch Myers. That does sound likely. I did have a long conversation with Chance Howard off-air during the pandemic and I mentioned that version of Black Sweat. I do remember we both dug that little snippet.
@ oh wow! I hope Chance is doing better. I haven’t heard anything about him in several years now (since his accident). It would be wonderful to hear an interview with him, if he’s at all willing (maybe audio-only)
This channel provides the insight that I WISH!! the estate would listen too. Why can't the estate listen to all the soldiers and pull the music that they say is magical!!!!! Naaahhh...let's sell a yellow purple rain lp!😡🤬
Thanks TylerGarrick for the kind words. Prince supported our radio show so I hope in time the Estate takes a few recommendations from fans and musicians alike. Personally, I'd love to see the live performances see the light of day legally and in best quality.
I Spoke to Mr. Nelson once in 2014 while living in Az, he gave me his address to Chanhassen MN, after I inquired about the Song Book Sheet Music of Emancipation, $39.99 he said, real Quickly & I knew I Was Speaking to the Purple Player Himself, ( the Pen I used didn't work, & I could tell you don't waste his time & I said thank you) But I didn't get it, DAMMIT arg 🤬
Whenever I hear Larry Graham's name, I cringe. However, Prince was a grown man and he made his own decisions. I don't know if it was Greg Boyer, but I heard Prince put his microphone-gun to a horn player's head for missing his cue.
Thanks DonnyNoMarie. I've seen Prince use the microphone gun as a prop. He did answer my question in the NPGMC question/answer he had about why he used the mic gun.

A True Funk Soldier
When Prince yelled, "Ice Cream!" I wonder if Boyer did the riff from Ice Cream Castles...
I was at that Montreal show too, he definitely wore the Habs sweater!
Thanks SimonPeacock. I've seen many great shows in Montreal.

Thanks Avace917. I knew in the recesses of my mind I can remember "Ice Cream" during the MSG gig on the Parade Tour. I saw both shows.
@musiciansreveal I saw the first one
@@avace917 he also yelled it numerous times in Soul Psychdelicide

@@n34z3r actually, that's what I was referring to when I said "rehearsal on SOTT Deluxe."
