These interviews with Jesse Johnson are legendary!
Jesse doesn’t get the credit he deserves and The Time are just, great ones 🙌🏼
All of them are great! Jesse was on Obama's team as the white house music director!!!
@DavidMarkThomasMusic AGREED! And all the solo stuff Jesse has played and recorded for the past several decades is SMOKIN'!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Especially when he does Blues. 💯💯💯💯
I’d do anything to see The Time come to the UK for a show, I think people would really turn out!
Great music , He's definitely under rated.
XBlackly
One of the best Guitarist ever.
Along with Ernie Isley Two of the most legendary living UNDERRATED Artists to ever play those strings in My Opinion.
I agree. Ernie is my number one. Jesse and Steve Vai (who is not underrated of course) are my next. Vai, only because he's got that bluesy way of doing Metal.
You ain't never lied, ernie isley 🔥 🎸 don't forget Charlie singleton too
Jesse Johnson is so underrated, I love that you got him on!
Totally agree.
I totally agree. Jesse Johnson is awesome!
“It’s not the gear, it’s knowing what you’re doing”
that’s a wake up call for all of us.
That’s the takeaway quote.
Prince certainly knew Jesse was a serious bad ass on that axe! And the joint w Sly!🕺🏾🕺🏾
Him and Ernie Isley are so slept on its sickening
Agreed 100!
Facts! Stephen Shockley is another great one.
Jesse’s solo on “Jerk Out” still gives me chills: “Cut ‘em, Jesse.”
One of my favorite Jesse Johnson solos.
No doubt

This solo wow Jesse
Jesse killed that guitar !!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Double homicide 🎸 🔥 🔥 🔥
This is the guy who lit the spark that ignited the flame to get me to pick up a guitar to even try to touch those strings. My all time favorite guitar player.
Holy crap! Jesse Johnson is one of the greatest guitarists to ever pick up one. You gotta check out the solo on "Can you help me"
It will be featured in the full interview
@ Awesome, dude. Jesse was one of the most prominent artists of the late eighties; he was everywhere and a real talent. you can hear it. Thank you for this.
Eddie Hazel Maggot Brain is awesome too .
@ no doubt. A guitar god.
The Solo on Love Struck!.
Jesse Johnson’s Revue is an underrated album
He's a great player! Prince used to keep the lights off of him when they toured together so he switched from a black to a pink suit! Thanks for this.
That Rhythm so locked, Preciate Jesse Johnson, he's one of the Greatest Musicians
Listening to Jesse talk it struck me that he doesn't know how brilliant he is.
Talented, Humble Man! I still remember buying his solo cd back in the day. Still listen to it today! Thank you for all your great music!
Give Jesse his flowers right now man we love you bro I rocked your album and everything you did was great and still great. God bless you brother put out another record man! Stay Indy, the people will love you
Always have been a 100% Jesse Johnson fan….a talented and humble guy. Thankfully, I got opportunities to see him cut loose and play live in concert. “Jesse Johnson Revue” and “Shockadelica” are fun album listens. I hope this interview helps get him in front of new audiences.
Thank you VE. Jesse is way overdue his flowers. The way is criminally underrated
Jesse is that dude!!! Don’t get it twisted!! RIP to my uncle Wah Wah Watson!!!
Those were the days. Love JJ's guitar playing.
Please upload more of Jesse Johnson!
Brings back so many memories. I was a huge fan in 80's.
Jesse Johnson is one of the all time great guitarists, FACT!
I couldn't hardly wait to buy his first album when they broke up. And the rest of the guys of course. He has a great song with Sly Stone "Crazy" that I have on my playlist.🙏🏾
That's the Shockadelica album. Sad he didn't have e a song of the same name so Prince did 1
This man right here!💜 Nothing like 80's MN funk!
thank you for putting the shot right on Jesse' fingers as he was playing.
Every shade of love my favourite album of his
Not 1 song on that album should be skipped!❤
Jesse johnson so underated, he co wrote nights like this for the five heartbeats. And he did other soundtracks.
Jesse got stories and one down to earth cat
Jesse Johnson is the man..I'm still trying to play guitar like Jesse Johnson and his song blonde is sooo awesome
I'm a classic rocker and metal fan and when hair metal was in full swing, this man's chops was as good as any of 'em.🏆
Jesse Johnson Nuff Said
We need the whole video asap!!! This guy pushed me into paying attention to rhythm guitar playing!! Holding down his part of the funk ingredient, iits part of the hypnotic funk recipe! His solo work is just as insane!!
The full interview will be up next week.
@@VertexEffectsInc Please hurry! ❤
If anyone remembers Morris day was a drummer before Prince asked him to step up to the microphone for him to be the lead singer in the actual group
I remember Morris playing drums on this song
ua-cam.com/video/96d5xZLNdOA/v-deo.htmlsi=tJz0_wcnWxWlHjaO
And Morris Day Playing Drums on this one
ua-cam.com/video/pTSk1U1gPvI/v-deo.htmlsi=8ADSNqXkUbszCRpL
That’s correct. It was Morris Day on drums, and Alexander O’Neal on lead vocals
Cloreen Bacon skin - Morris Day on drums check it out
Due to prince having an issue with Alexander O”Neal , Alexander was awesome and would have fit with the time
Jesse is a beast!!! 👊🏽💜🤙🏽
Jesse is n always will be 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Above and Beyond 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Oh, my hero and inspiration for rhythm playing on several of studio sessions.
This is the one I've been waiting for. Guys thank you. (Jesse Johnson) brotha thank you for the inspirations.
Jesse Johnson has always been one of the greatest Gutarist in the world, really real talk!!! Jesse will always get credit for the Time's success and Minneapolis sound.
I can still remember driving my ‘72 Chevelle with girlfriend and my brother and his wife to the theatre to see Purple Rain when it came out. Initially went to see it because the girls wanted to see it, but after I was blown away.
I have two of his solo vinyls. Underrated and old school.
Jesse is a living legend. Still hot on the 🎸🔥. The performance was hot 🔥🔥 Great Interview 👍
More to come!
That's an F'N ridiculously awesome story right there. DAMN.
jesse for president!!! good to see an og doing the show!!! what a legend!!!
I've seen Morris Day and the Time a dozen times and the man is literally the most entertaining frontman i know of. He isn't faking his act--he really IS what you see and Jerome follows him around with a mirror and a cape and a lintbrush 24-7!
A true Legend!!!😊
Mr. Johnson has been Crowned
Jesse Johnson, "Get it Up", Best Solo EVER!!!
Guys you did not ask him about his gear?!!! A lot of us want to hear him solo free styling the magic he gave. Love Struck is one of the ones I was hoping you guys would break down. Can we have a part 2 return lol please, Jesse is one of our favorites and we want to know what's next.
This is just a clip, the interview in full will be out next week
@@VertexEffectsIncthank God
Living legend! Amazing catalog of work, and plays Jimi like no one else can.
We need the entire session 😢
Next week!
So awesome! Thank you for this, didn’t know these details of the historic making of this iconic era of Music
This was Fire,🔥, amazing and chill giving..❤❤❤🔥🎉🎊🎊👏🏾👏🏾
Aww man just to get a chance to see Jesse Johnson give us a hit like that is awesome he played that segment so smooth it seemed to look like he was just barley brushing the strings and playing it by the kneck into the octave it looked like ,and the story how they made jungle love ,but man Jesse Johnson solo album REVIEW is awesome i first heard that in the night club they went nuts when they played" she wont let go i "ran to the record store looking for that album
JJ is a bad man!!
This is great! I bought his debut album in 85. I wore that album out!
Fantastic guitarist! Go Jesse! Glad he's sharing with fans the nature of his contributions to a classic hit song.
I always loved Jesse's voice--singing and just talking. Great tone and bluesy style to his vocals.
I already loved this song and Jesse's parts. Listening to Jesse play this with all of the other instruments turned down makes me appreciate it even more.
Can't wait for this one. Heck, I say that about all of them.😀😀
Jesse is the one who could give Prince smoke on the ax
I believe jesse is a better guitarist than prince
@@Wayne-e5p Prince played guitar (& almost everything else) on 75% of The Time's recorded material, basically the 1st 3 of the 4 Time albums. Johnson only played guitar on a couple of tracks from the 2nd & 3rd Time albums.
That’s for real. JJ is a real axe murderer
@@brianinglis3805 just bc prince masterd a lot of instruments doesn't mean he's a better guitarist than jesse on the strings in my opinion. Michael jackson sold one hundred million records just off of the thriller album before the enternet and he just danced. Prince couldnt do that in his whole life time.
@@brianinglis3805that’s not because Jesse couldn’t, prince was just very specific also prince did a lot of the rhythm - Jesse did the leads and solo
Long overdue recognition Jesse is a real shredder!!!
First Jubu…now Jesse! I’m done! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
And the rest was HISTORY 🌹🌹🌹
Great stories
Started listening to Jesse's music for the first time.
Great stuff
Jesse is nothing but the truth!
Even us Slayer and Maiden loving metalheads LOVE Jesse Johnson.
Wow! Jessie actually looks like Prince here i never realized it till Now
Or, Prince resembles Jesse.🙄
i dont see it… like at all
@monk__375
You’re right of course…I was just humouring the original commenter who said it.🌿
@@reliableandrewmore like Andre Simone
@@tspcocktail That's Andre 'Cymone', if you want to spell his surname correctly...all of these men are unique and look like themselves...there (may) be some occasional performance related mannerisms that they share.
He kicked out some great cuts of his own too!! Had a number one album!!
Stay tuned for full video next week!
Damn that was good!
Man...That is super exciting splitting the obx and recording stuff live with Prince. these guys are unbelievable man. I remember the first album and here I am thinking that these guys all played everything and NOT knowing exactly who Alexander Nevermind was. and turned out Prince played all if not most of the everything on that album except Morris. He really fooled us. But the time turned it all out live to the point that Prince got worried/can I say jealous/ GREAT job Jesse and the crew!
Jesse has ALWAYS BEEN and WILL BE my IDOL guitarist. After hearing him -- out of everyone I was listening to as a kid, I knew I wanted to make a living out of, what was supposed to be, a hobby. I took guitar SERIOUSLY after him. Has the chops and the Kool AF swag!!
Jesse said all the clothes they worn on Ice Cream Castles were from the movie "Gone With The Wind" and they had gone a borrowed pieces from the films' archived wardrobe.
Love love loved his solo album!!!!
AWESOME!!! GREAT HISTORY LESSON ON THE FUNK from Y'ALL!!!
I wish this was longer, about more songs, his solo work and his work with Tamara And The Seen,Jesse is an outstanding guitarist.Mason I hope at some point you’ll do a video with Ernie Isley
Full video comes next week! Over 2 hours long with JJ! I'd love to do Ernie!
Thx he's a MN treasure. ❤
Mason, is doing us a great service by show casing & documenting all of the "Greats"
💜 Prince and 💓 Jessie!
Jesse Johnson is so cool! Hey Jesse tell them to get that hair curled!
ITS ABOUT TIME YAAL HAD HIM ON!!!
Some of the hippest guitar playing of the '80's!
like his work with D'Angelo a LOT
".. Jesse..!" - we hear on the famous recording to 'Something in the Water' Masterpiece..
We - the phounky people - love JESSE! 👏🏻♥️
Ok Mason, Ernie Isley next!! 👍🏽
Yes!!!
Great post, fantastic musician.
He’s so underrated. To be able to recreate everything Prince did on the tracks, For the live shows Was remarkable Yes his solo albums are underrated too 😢
this channel is pure gold
Jesse Johnson In the house
JJ so funky.
My favorite Jesse Johnson solo is on Can You Help Me! I play it back to back.
That's a badass hat.
Thanks for the inspiration Big brother Jesse from Unk-Tu-Amun The Last Pharoah..
Damn that dude is well turned out!
Jessie Johnson is a huge part of the Minneapolis sound from that era. I have his solo albums and all the songs are good. IMO “Crazy For You” adding Sly Stone is the hardest funk song of the 80’s.
More please!
YO GIVE JESSE HIS DUE💯
Always loved his playing miss his music
yea buddy solid rhythm playing!
Bravissimo. Grazie
I love his solo album!
Loved Jesse since the 80s. I still have Jesse Johnson’s revue on wax. Super scary guitar player.
