Christi, I agree 100% with your assessment, and my first listen to this cover made me think this was one of her best, simply because it exposed a softer side I don't think I have ever heard before.
There is just something about her voice that cuts deep and opens emotions sometimes you are not even aware of.
She is remarkable on so many levels, truly a gift to us all.😊😊❤

Now we just wait until a film producer asks Floor to sing a title song for a future movie. At least one Oscar should be guaranteed! Floor always tried to expand her musical 'toolbox' through the years. In her 'After Forever' days it was mainly high notes. Then with 'Revamp' she explored her growling abilities. In her side project 'Northward' she got to her Hard Rock side. She never really tried to get delicate in her singing however. It was Tuomas who forced her to use her more delicate qualities and she was surprised herself how good it became, with this cover as ultimate result. She always was able to get emotions accross with her facial expressions and gestures. In this one her eyes at the end just grabs your soul (again).
New James Bond movie coming out soon, I think she’d be an excellent choice to sing the title song to that. XD
I agree 100%. Tuomas really pushed all the members of Nightwish to exceed their own expectations with the Human :||: Nature album. This beautiful cover by Floor is just one example of the extreme pay-off of that. Thank you, Tuomas Holopainen, for expecting More -- and being able to get it -- from the members of your band.!🌹
Listening to the whole thing now, having missed some of it this morning during the premiere. And ... no wonder everyone wants you to listen to Floor! She is fabtabulous! Also, as others mentioned, she's been doing amazing work this past year, making the most of the circumstances forced on all of us by the pandemic, and using her time to perfect her perfection. Her voice is in fantastic condition, maybe also because of the benefit of less touring and less fatigue? Also, she's top of her trade! She is indeed glowing! She recently celebrated her 40th birthday, and is very much like good wine, better and better and better with time, embodied beauty and skill and groundedness! And we are the beneficiaries of her magnificence!

I agree, this IS a different voice for Floor, and I believe that was the point. From watching her different videos, interviews, etc., I think she really enjoys stretching herself and trying different things. She has said she's not really comfortable in Pop music (which is where I would put this, along with other movie themes) so she is practicing it. Floor's "practices" seem like master performances to the rest of us.
Floor held a singing class again and gave everyone else homework. This is what perfection looks like !

Floor is just special. She really is the mist versatile singer I’ve ever heard. This cover is my favourite fore sure. Her rendition is balanced and rich vocally & musically. She’s a master storyteller in whatever genre she sings. This song just fits her perfectly.

Hi Christi, very curious about your reaction to the song.....I liked the original by M83 featuring Susanne Sundfor already, but (as you know) Floor 's vocal capabilities and versatility adds yet another layer or more depth to the song. And , yes......I admit: I am a bit prejudiced as a fellow Dutchman ;-).
Susanne Sundfor is a phenomenon in herself and I hope more people hear her as a result of Floor doing this.

I think this was also part of adding layers & depth to the song, adding “atmosphere” to a song being sung in her barn (home studio).
The mixture of tones has made this song such a good one.

I'm always late to the party! I discovered yesterday that you and Mark were members of one of my all-time favorite singing groups ... Truth. I read the Truth Wikipedia and scanned the list of those who were once part of the group. I'm not the sort of rabid fan who retains roster lists and other details memorized. While I'm a bit older, my Truth experience began late. There are certain songs that I love, and that my wife and I have covered at church as duets. So, "Hi." It's great to know you as more than a fellow Dimash, Floor, etc. fan.

In this performance, Floor is Endless Power Most Delicate. I've been waiting and searching for this reaction since this cover was released. Great reaction.
I think the use of Floor's voice is probably different. She told in an interview that Tuomas challenged her (again) on the new NW album Human :||: Nature. A whispering use of light tones in her voice. Probably, she keeps studying and gets inspired by the right musicians, like Tuomas. He's her treasure I suppose...
And a dear brother to her. She has only one sister Irene.

I think that through these covers Floor is experimenting to find where she should take her solo project that she is working on right now. Preparing for a career after Nightwish. Loved your analysis and commentary Christy! As usual so intelligent and informed. One of the big things that sets Floor apart from most vocalists is how she sings out these short lyric lines and holds them out till the end of each measure. Such amazing breath control. @@eddiecreutzburg7375 I hear you my friend, and I hope she will never leave. However, I think Tuomas may be headed for softer pastures. I think he may pursue the Auri thing with Troy and his wife as he gets older. Hopefully not for another 5-7 years, but time will tell. Peace.

To me personally, it's my favourite cover of hers as well. We all often say her voice is from another planet, but in this one right here, I FEEL it. Otherworldly vocals, it feels like she's doing things to my heart and soul with this cover, things which I can't even put into words. It's a mental experience I've never had with any song ever before, no matter which genre or artists, so I can't really explain it. It's just so different... (It feels a little bit like these moments when you're having a really cool dream during sleep but you're close to waking up so at this point you KNOW you're just dreaming and therefore enjoy it even more hoping it won't end too soon... If that makes sense to anyone? lol idk) Anyway it's really amazing. And I agree, the harmonies are gorgeous as well. ♥

Floor does so many things that make her such a great singer. I feel like it is a privilege to watch and hear her sing her music no matter where it comes from. You can just tell that she studies all of the songs she plans to sing. I thought this was her best cover ever for many of the reason you mentioned. By the way I love watching your reactions. I subscribed quite a while ago. I would call it delicate with power.
My theory is that she was pushed hard in the Human :||: Nature album as Tuomas took her far out of her comfort zone in many of the songs. It turns out she can actually do all of those vocal techniques she might have never have to seriously consider before. Shoemaker was the key, she talked about it in several interviews. Overall it seems like she has always considered herself as a soprano but found out through the Shoemaker process that she has some amazing mezzo soprano qualities too that have been relatively untapped in the past. We've known for a long time she can do the high register stuff very well, but her lower registers 'unlocking' through this process is what has opened a new dimension to her voice. Other than her ad libbing parts, the actual lyrical singing parts of this song reside in quite low registers for Floor. The power, voice colors, and control of breathiness she brings to the lower register is something she hasn't shown all that much in the past, not like this anyway.

Christi- as you are a self proclaimed Floor fangirl, I would suggest you check out Floor with the Marcel Fisser Band (from Beste Zangers), on one of their performances right before the lockdown, for an interview at the Muziekcafé . Floor sang a song from one of her projects, Northward (a more straightforward rock project) ..."Bridle Passion"....it's stunningly gorgeous!!!! It's probably too short to do a reaction to, it's just under 3 minutes, but you might like to see it just for yourself. Just Floor and an acoustic guitar, stripped down.

Nightwish is doing a virtual concert in May. Listening to her covers and watching her videos, she's in perfect shape. Curious who the bassist will be, but I'm looking forward to this concert. She's stunning as always, as is NW.

Many of us think the cameraman fainted at the end lol. I love your analyses I learn so much from them! I call her vocals on this song(just made this up lol) "Powerful Ecstasy" because that's the way I feel with her voice and the massive synthetic keyboards and her background vocals and yes I think Irene is also singing the background vocals. I've heard Irene sing and if I was Floor she would be my pick and not just because she's my sister. Again I compliment your analyses. Many so-called vocal coaches and "analysts" doing these videos should in fact NOT be doing them b/c they know very little about music and voice techniques. You do know and that's why I keep coming back to your channel. Again, the instrumentation gives me goosebumps. MASSIVE up and down runs from the synths!!

You right Christi, Floor show in this song abilities that we not often hear from her. Tuomas challenge Floor use more her softer and lover part of voice in last albums(2015 and 2020).If you want to hear even more delicate/softer side of Floor I recommend Procession from Nightwish new album.

Susanne Sundfør's original is very good. Floor's take is heavier of course. But her vocal palette is also more colourful. I get a strange nostalgic and emphatic feel from it. Haha, camera lens make Floor's hands huge, but not for reason. Everyhing she puts them turns to Golden. 💗👸👸

When you asked for comparable "delicate" performances what came to mind were the almost theatrical aria "Imperfect Tenses" and a more traditional power ballad "Cry With a Smile", both with After Forever, although young Floor seemed to use higher register for "delicate". Her version of Nightwish's "Deep Silent Complete" from their Live in Buenos Aires release might be closer to this cover.
Floor, self-admittedly, had not challenged her softer vocal side before joining Nightwish. Her first NW record is critiqued by some for not using Floor's talents to the fullest, equating fullness with power, as opposed to breadth and mastery of the vocal palette. For the more delicate side of Floor's Nightwish, consider Elan, My Walden, Procession, and especially Ad Astra, as they may fill in the gap between Floor you've known until now and this Floor.
She is from another world
Nightwish - Our Decades in the Sun is the other song that comes to mind with her more delicate singing. There is no live for it only album version as it was too emotional for them to perform.
The first half yes, great call, then the second half of Decades... reverts to her familiar mixed belt vocals.
But there are certainly new qualities here in Oblivion that havn't featured before too xx

I think she is using these covers to experiment with her voice while it doesn't have any consequence other than a few thumbs down...not that we are ever critical of her, I think we should be more critical so that we can push her to even greater heights. It is hard though if you like her voice...damn!

Someone said this is her best cover so far. Is it? She just showed another side of her never-ending capabilities. A new tone to her voice, yet another one. All her works are from an extraordinary high level, hard to choose which is best. Most likely her next work ...
Working with other artists means she is constantly developing herself. Working around Sabaton, her husband's band, and on the Northward project and Nightwish HumanNature being so different to other albums and more classical, she has pushed herself so much.
Someone else commented that Decades in the Sun captures some of this tone quality, and while I do agree, I think it highlights just how much her tone quality has improved in 8years in that non belting mixed chest/head register of hers- because we know her belt in her mixed chest/head is incredible!

I thought the movie was much better than it gets credit for, anything with Morgan Freeman in it gets my vote. Also, this song in the original form doesn't seem to carry the weight of the loss that Floor's version imparts, this is a SAD song and this version FEELS that way. I liked the original but I LOVE this one and you can FEEL this one.

Floor and Susanne are just so different. They're both perfect and totally different ways. Go listen to Suzanne sing this song live in Kimmel. Her Vibrato and haunting quality to her voice is to me, what makes her version the best. It feels like you're floating (which fits the movies premise). Floors is amazing but doesn't give me the same feelings. M83 had a few different singer live, with Kaela being the newest, and she gives again, a different version. The only thing I think Floors version suffers from is the recreation isn't as dense as m83s, so that build up to higher and higher isn't as intense. It's little things when you're dealing with perfect singers.

In one of her recent fan Q&A's, when asked generally how she was doing during the Covid-19 lockdowns, Floor replied: "I have two sides: the ("home") dog and the ("roam") wolf" (symbolized by the dog and wolf tattoos behand her left and right ears). "The dog side of me is fat and happy and almost too contented to even bother to wag its tail. The wolf side of me is starving -- he wants to get back out there and roam the world, learning new things". So lets wish Floor the fastest return possible to concert-going in the coming year!
I presume Floor starts to explore that part of her vocals during Beste Zangers 2019 were she had to adapt her voice to the other vocalists vocal techniques. She is always looking for a connection between her style and adjust her voice to the capabilities of the others singers. On top of that she always gives 120% a song all what’s needed.
I also think this COVID sabbatical gives her time to come at ease. This is the renewed Floor and she made a reboot at the countryside in Sweden. No other composer’s did give her directions or fluenced her on musically topics. So this could be the real Floor. Floor is always been a pleaser, giving everything to the world. Now there is no one else than herself to make the artistic choices. She’s became 40yo now, older and wiser. A family mother and wife, living along the countryside in Sweden with husband and daughter and animals.
This gave me the same feeling as Dimash in ”Across endless dimensions”.
Hey can you react you a video on Clap It Up Dan's channel; it's 22 times Tim Foust went subharmonic. Also could you possibly react to a singer known as Shawn James. He's an amazing singer, yet no one reacts to him (except maybe one person). He's a bluesy folky singer and I'd think you would just love him.
