A great interview with one of the most talented and gifted human beings that gave everyone beautiful music to enjoy. I love all types of music. The way we were is my favorite song of the tens of thousands that I enjoy listening to. Great video.
Beautiful singing. But as a pianist I can't tell you enough about Marvin Hamlish's playing. He was a keyboard genius but his matter of fact way of playing lets you think he's not doing anything remarkable. He is doing incredible things with this piece. It makes the entire performance amazing. He'll be greatly missed.
Marvins dad Max was my accordian teacher and Marvin tested me for pitch when I was 13, he was 18 I think and going to Queens college at that time (Not Julliard yet). This was in 1963. His mom would NOT let him fly anywhere. He would take the train and she would fly to meet up with him. Things changed! He started flying eventually. This all originated in the Bronx, a cousin of his brought me to see if his father would take me for a student. They lived behind the Planatarium in NYC. After the lesson, Max would actually walk me to the subway, pay the 15 cents each to get in, and put me on the correct train. My stop was the last stop on the D train, so a no brainer as long as I was on the right train! His cousin Freddy asked him to play a few tunes. The only one I remember was 3 little Words written by Harry Ruby. For those who don't recognize the name, Ruby wrote the songs for thre Marks brothers, and the theme for You Bet Your Life for Groucho!

So talented…Marvin Hamlisch is a national treasure, gone too soon.
Incredible talent
So great!!!
Marvin was a great accompanist, just listening to the chords he was laying down while she sang was just incredible.
"The Way We Were" Marvin's treasure forever!
