I haven't spotted from Rydges yet but its view looks a lot better than the old Observation Deck! Sydney will miss the UA 744's but the 772's will be a refreshing change.
We have so many of these United 747-400's here at SFO but always great to see the queen of the skies. I wish they could fly forever but unfortunately that won't happen.
I used to work for UA for over 10 years - lots of great memories doing the pacific long hauls. Gonna miss my Bloody Marys and warm nuts served by our seasoned trolly dolls.
I remember flying in United's 747 in the old battleship livery. I was 6 at the time. It's sad that United is getting rid of these classic giants I wish they would get a 747-8i though.
Had no idea UA's 747s are being phased out, I so happened to be at Airport Drive that day in the afternoon and saw that very plane take off and being an amateur film photographer I snapped a couple of photos of that plane on a very old 35mm film that expired in 1983, will be interesting how it will turn out on developing, if successful I will upload and share. I have also previously captured it on Super 8 a few months ago ua-cam.com/video/JO9JUvV7tmA/v-deo.htmlm40s .
Awesome video mate, it's such a shame to see the 747-400 go out of service, because they're such an iconic aircraft.

The roof I thought.
Is it at the car park near Rydges Hotel?
Aviatorspot Rydges is the place to go, not the carpark. The view is elevated and better too.
So its the rooftop at the Rydges hotel? Do they let anyone go up there? How do I get up there?
Not only that, United now also has the 777-300ER (773).
Spectacular video man, excellent shot! It's an end of an era at LAX and SYD...
Beautiful take off
WOW! It's come to an end of the UA 744 at SYD, I flew on both routes for 10 years (4 times each year), so sad to see it go!!

Good take off.
Great shots mate. Gonna be a somber day when we don't have a UA 744 here anymore :(
I remember seeing the UA 747 Star Alliance at Sydney!
Sad to see them gone
Wow great shot it seems like the 747s are getting ran out by the 777s
***** you mean 747-8I
all the 747s are now in america
I went on like the 3rd last United 747-400 flight to San.fransico

Wait does the United airlines operate the most 747s in San Francisco?
michael roblox Yep
Have they all been taken out of the U.S. Airlines fleets...say it isn't so!!
Now they are on 787s
They'll be all gone in 2018 when the newer A350-1000, 777-300ER, and 787 fleet are placed into service.
You will be missed
We're getting the 747s instead of 777s here at ORD
on the domestic?
Nope. Well.. Sometimes. SFO-ORD. But most FRA-ORD and Shanghai-ORD

At least united will be competive with qantas/virgin/delta.....
The last flight ua747
y are they getting ride of them
+X LiiMiTz 3D Because the 747s are not economically beneficial from expensive maintenance, high fuel consumption and poor ridership.
I wouldn't say the 747s have poor ridership though. I believe the planes are as full as the amount of passengers that want to fly those routes.

Wtf
United Airlines needs to replace the 747-400 with the 777-300ER and maybe they could order 20+ 747-8 I's
+Jo Tyers They indeed ordered the 777-300ER, but unfortunately, not the 747-8
