Did this flight many times over the years and now live in the UK. Loved every journey I ever took but now retired and of course cannot afford to fly anymore. The trill will always be part of me.
Still amazes me when I see one of these in the air; I understand the science behind to still...! They are beautiful aircraft. I'm lucky to be in London from where the BA 747s still operate and we can see them daily coming and going from Heathrow.
I was the captain onboard her and it was an emotional moment during the entire flight. I wanted to make the aircraft look amazing on takeoff by taking of at a sleek angle. Moving back to the 777-200ER now. Never really loved the 777 but hey my life is aviation.
Its such a shame we dont see these anymore. A Qantas 747 was the first plane i flew on in 1981. I was 8 years old and thought it was the coolest thing i had ever seen.
Good old BA,those colours do look the biz...she may be old(I know the newer models are about,by old,I mean that unique airframe) but the 747`s still have the looks no other heavy will have, beautiful a\c. ..and those RR`s spooling up and that whine...goose bump time...
reading some of your comments on here and some of them are ill informed and frankly some beggar belief. are you forgetting this aircraft has 1971 vintage with a few (quite a few) modifications. BA still and will continue to fly their 744's for quite some time and the one featured in this video NLF was only yesterday 21.02.15 despatched on a mission to Miami. She is coming up on her 25th birthday and still plying the long haul routes and long may she still do so. The 747 transformed aviation - lest we forget that. The 380 and the likes are natural evolutions of what was originally achieved, lets not knock the old bird but admire her achievements. Mx
the dear old girl (747) has become a victim of the finance kings, sadly, the previous 'Worlds Largest Aircraft' seldom flew full Pax Loads. Compared to the A380 Cattle Truck, it was considered a fuel hungry monster, however, the A 380 is now recognised as a fuel hungry aircraft unless the airline is able to FILL both classes of the aircraft. Its all about money, costs etc. The 747 created a new demand for improved airports around the world (with some exceptions such as Melbourne which is around the 1960's from a passenger viewpoint. The 777 appears to hold her own and the new Dreamliner appears to be satisfying the demand for new equipment. It must be understood that today's airlines are directed often by people who haven't a clue about the demands placed on high cost machinery, an aircraft is loosing money so long as it is on the ground of course. Many top executives have shown little knowledge of airline operations and this is a major management disease these days Branson for example, has been ridng both his airlines and railways for many years on Taxpayer funded government handouts and chicanery, doubtless many other airlines operate in a similar fashion, Ryan Air for instance, they'd have Standing room Only if they could get away with it. Back to the greatest Pax a.c ever, the 747's will now do a considerable number of years as Cargo Hacks , so we shall not be seeing the end of them too soon.
BA16 flies Sydney to LHR via Singapore. BA12 to LHR is still a 747 flight. You can book it that way, even via their website if you book it as a multi-city flight.
Last Air Pacific/ Fiji Airways 744 to SYD is on 07 NOV. Korean Air are bringing the jumbo back in December for a few months and Air New Zealand will be increasing 744 flights to SYD in December. There is also 2 charters that will bring more jumbo jets. Jumbo has some life left in SYD but yes we lost a lot recently which does suck.
Will definitely be missed. Sad too that I didn't get to see the last flight off but that's the way it goes. I imagine it will be 77W's for a while now unless the demand increases for A380 services.
Yep, once the A380's are delivered they're going LHR-LAX and LHR-HKG. Maybe get a chance to fly on one via HKG with QF or CX next time I'm heading back to the UK :P But I don't think we'll see anything larger than 77W in Sydney for some time to come sadly :(
Sad moment. Nice sound off those RB211s though! The 747 is such an amazing aircraft, it's truly sad that the 777 series basically killed the 747, with the next generation coming of the 777... well. I guess it's gotta happen with economics and making profit but the 747 is the greatest aircraft ever made (I think anyway). :)
This Sucks, First the JAL 747 is Replaced by the 777 and Recently the Air Pacific 747 has been cut from Air Pacific or "Fiji Airways" Now the BA 747 has been replaced by the 777 and in a few months time the United 747s will be replaced with 777s not to mention Qantas are slowly retiring there 747s. Atlas Air still have 747Fs to Sydney as well as the rare Emirates Sky Cargo but who knows what the future of 747s in Sydney will be.
British airways should of kept the 747 on that route 😔😔😔 and my mum worked on 747 for ba and JAL and on tri stars and some other aircraft's when she was flying with british midland....... She also worked on the ground as a check in lady after this she was an actor!!!!! And played in the bill, estenders and many more
I've understand that BA has taken away their 747's from many routes. But they aren't selling/scrapping them, right? What routes are they transfered to, really?
I was hoping the day the 747 is replaced in SYD it would be replaced by A380 but they don't have any presently and I don't think the route is justified to take the A380 for BA. :(
My understanding is BA will acquire/ operate the 747-8F for cargo... Unlike Lufthansa, I don't think BA intend operating any 747-8 Intercontinentals... Most major carriers with aging 747s will retire them and introduce A380s. Luckily QANTAS has six GE equipped 74-438(ER) purchased in 2002/3 and a smattering of Rolls powered 438s all of which have at least 6 years of useful service life remaining :-)
Keyyyyzzzz they would like to introduce more 787 and aircraft like that from what I'm told the a380 isn't a massive money maker unless you fill it up. Airbus was only on saying a few months back that they will have to offer a a380neo or scrap the production because airlines aren't ordering as many as they thought and some are even rejecting orders near compleation . planes of the future will be like the 787 (all varients including -10 if they decide to build it) and the 777(all variants including the future -9x) and the a350. They can make more money from them buy saving hundreds of millions of dollars in fuel each year
Pfft, give me a 747 any day of the week. The interior is only as good as the airline decides to deck it out. I can almost guarantee you that you would NOT be saying the same thing if Emirates decide to equip 11 abreast on their A380s in Economy. If that's "21st century air travel", then no thanks, I'm not interested. Long live the classics!
MrPhucdatbich Too bad Emirates wouldn't equip it's A380 with 11 abreast, Airbus already said no to them since day 1, Emirates CEO said they actually want to used 11 abreast seat since they launch their own A380 but Airbus never allow them to do so, stop making shit up! 747 is shit get on with it!
I really shouldn't start a fight with an eleven year old, but the truth is that a 747 is to this day one of the best aircraft for passenger experience! 777s? They are being cramped with 10 abreast seating by most airlines. 787s? 9 Abreast, they are designed for 8. Meanwhile the 747 can carry 10 Abreast comfortably, and the 767, (another older aircraft) carries 7 abreast comfortably. No airlines have tried to cramp that plane!
+Speedbird yeah im with you 100%, IM SO SAD BRITISH STOPPED OPERATING 747S TO SYDNEY now we get no more rb211's :( there are only 4 qantas 747s with rb211s and you dont see them very often
I was on this piece of junk. Should have retired it. Got to Singapore then got offloaded as one of the emergency exits was U/S. Glad to get on a 3 month old 777-300 the next day
***** BA didn't order any B747-8 don't they? not many Airlines did either, BA going to Bought either B777X or more A380 because of the slots restrictions in Heathrow, B747 are either too small or to big for most of their market
***** Most of them are still around because the airlines hasn't got their delivery of B777 or A380 yet, Cathay Pacific would finalize the retirement of their B747-400 next month, while Qantas, Air France, Asiana Airlines, Korean Air, Malaysian Airlines, Air New Zealand, Philippine Airlines, China Airlines, Eva Air are in the process of retiring their B747-400, most would finished retired their B747-400 around next year
***** Only Lufthansa (19), Korean Air (10), Arik Air (2), Air China (5), and Transaero Airlines(4) order B747-8, only total of 51 aircraft had been ordered, some of them are from unidentified costumers
Did this flight many times over the years and now live in the UK. Loved every journey I ever took but now retired and of course cannot afford to fly anymore. The trill will always be part of me.

The jumbo jet will always be one of the greatest aircraft :)
Beautiful Queen of the skies

3:25 a beautiful bird soaring up into the sky, so emotional 🙂😢
Great video! Love the BA 744's so it will be sad not to see them in your videos :(
Its such a shame we dont see these anymore. A Qantas 747 was the first plane i flew on in 1981. I was 8 years old and thought it was the coolest thing i had ever seen.
I love the Jumbo - been on it at least 3 times. Great video!

..and those RR`s spooling up and that whine...goose bump time...
That is very sad! And it will be sad not to see them in your videos anymore :(
Great filming, sad to see the jumbo go though.
wow nice video
Another great video, hopefully you get to see this or the A380 that British Airways started to fly several monthns ago.
reading some of your comments on here and some of them are ill informed and frankly some beggar belief. are you forgetting this aircraft has 1971 vintage with a few (quite a few) modifications. They sure are!! The RB211's are my favourite engines on the 747-400 :P
BA16 flies Sydney to LHR via Singapore. BA12 to LHR is still a 747 flight. You can book it that way, even via their website if you book it as a multi-city flight.
Sad to see this happen, but the 777-300ER will be be cool to see though.
THAT 747-400 IT'S BEING RETIRED FROM SERVCE ?
BEST ENGINES!
Wonderful video bro! BIG LIKE
747 FOREVER!
The sound of the beautiful RR RB-211s ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the compliment! :) I will check them out shortly :)

They still fly to Sydney but now with newer Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Will definitely be missed. Sad too that I didn't get to see the last flight off but that's the way it goes. I imagine it will be 77W's for a while now unless the demand increases for A380 services.
Hopefully its not the end of them forever, just for now. I will have to head over to the UK to see them again though if they don't come back. :P
Farewell british airways 747 from Sydney I still remember when I flew on you in may 2009 going to London via Bangkok
Well thats a lot better to hear, thanks!
Awesome mate. BEST OF BRITISH
Hey the 777 is excellent and the newest jumbo jet is the 777 300ER
This bird isn't being retired. This flight to Sydney is no longer operated by the Boeing 747-400. :(
It is a transition to retire 747’s and 727’s too
Yep, once the A380's are delivered they're going LHR-LAX and LHR-HKG. Maybe get a chance to fly on one via HKG with QF or CX next time I'm heading back to the UK :P But I don't think we'll see anything larger than 77W in Sydney for some time to come sadly :(

Sad to note the final departure. I flew BA into SYD on several occasions.
Am I the only one who wants to see a 747 with 4 of the T7 engines.
BA use 777 300 on the Sydney route ok is cool I thought they would have replaced the 747 with A380 on this service or is it not possible
I love the 747. Why did they have to do this! 777 are good but still! :(
They are great planes to fly, I have flown on them too. :)
BA 16 ?
RB 211's ??
Either way, very nice, thanks :-)
It sure is, the BA jumbo will be missed from Sydney skies :(
Don't cry, Malév has gone forever ...
Sydney are still lucky, they get 747's regularly, where as perth don't get them at all anymore :/ Only Cargo which doesn't come often.
It is a very sad sight indeed :(
@matthew walsh 4 months ago. Your Mum sounds like a very talented lady, did she teach you any grammar?
Yes that is true.
Truly one of the saddest things to see :(
It is a interesting change, I rather them change aircraft types then lose them all together :)
British airways should of kept the 747 on that route 😔😔😔 and my mum worked on 747 for ba and JAL and on tri stars and some other aircraft's when she was flying with british midland....... She also worked on the ground as a check in lady after this she was an actor!!!!! And played in the bill, estenders and many more
So sad British Airways have retired all of there 747 aircraft now.
I will miss filming them :(
if you were the captain, how did you get from SIN-LHR after this flight? ;)
The A380's are on their way!!!!
I've understand that BA has taken away their 747's from many routes. But they aren't selling/scrapping them, right? What routes are they transfered to, really?
I'm flying the BA 747 in August from Heathrow to Dallas. So that's one route they still use it for
they do use it from Kuwait-Heathrow
They use the 747- 400. Heathrow - Phoenix Sky Harbour, but the planes are a bit long in the tooth now.
MegaVector2011 Tell me about it! Looks so outdated inside, and I felt SO claustrophobic, especially if the person in front reclined.
BA are keeping 40 747s for the foreseeable future.
Maybe they replace the route with Airbus planes in the future
that 767 336er that landed ex ba
I was hoping the day the 747 is replaced in SYD it would be replaced by A380 but they don't have any presently and I don't think the route is justified to take the A380 for BA. :(
They're using 777 now
Small chance I think but possible. :)
At least the daily BA 12 and BA 11 is still the 744, turn round in Singapore
*Sigh* same story for Seattle, it has been replaced with the personality less 77W
The BA 747 is Still going to Sydney!
Only 773's now.
wow it is dirty
yeah the 747-400 may be retiring but they will eventually have the 747-8
My understanding is BA will acquire/ operate the 747-8F for cargo... Unlike Lufthansa, I don't think BA intend operating any 747-8 Intercontinentals... +Keyyyyzzzz I heard that Qantas is replacing 9 of its 12 747's with the Dreamliner by 2018
British Airways will retired 747-400 2024 and replace by Boeing 777-9
Retired 747. Jolly good. Old and tired. Now bring on modern A380 comfort and 21st century air travel.. Try it, you will love it....
Pfft, give me a 747 any day of the week. The interior is only as good as the airline decides to deck it out. I can almost guarantee you that you would NOT be saying the same thing if Emirates decide to equip 11 abreast on their A380s in Economy. ivan block How is it that bad? NOTHING beats the roar of RB211s, and the feeling of privacy you get on the upperdeck is amazing!
I really shouldn't start a fight with an eleven year old, but the truth is that a 747 is to this day one of the best aircraft for passenger experience! 777s? Bring back the Comets is what I say !
Well not all hope is lost for you 747 fans..... thai airways will remain using their 747 from bangkok to sydney..... for a long while....
yea but they dont use rb211s
My nan you're the captain looking at your channel. Nice try kiddo.
HORAAAY! DEAD TO 747! fucking hate this plane

Same thing I will be saying when the 777-300ER's time comes by.
