Making curtain tiebacks and installing curtain holdbacks was the last major project in my sewing room makeover, but I ran into a serious hold back with the metric screws my curtain holdbacks came with. My metric wallhanging screws would not screw into the stud behind my drywall because they were too short, but I also couldn't use drywall plugs because there was no room on one side of my window to install them, and American hardware stores don't carry metric screws, so I was unable to get a longer metric wallhanging screw to screw directly into the stud behind the drywall. I had to get creative with wood slices for this curtain holdback, curtain ties project to screw in my metric screws that just didn't want to screw into my wall. So I'll show you how to screw in a screw that doesn't want to screw too.
Getting these metric screws to screw into my wall was important so I couold install my curtain holdbacks in a sturdy enough way to hang up my home crocheted curtain tie backs with very heavy crystals on them. I upcycled the crystals from the chandelier in our bedroom becuase they clacked together and made an awful noise when we ran the ceiling fan, and they look beautiful as curtain ties. You can make your own curtain ties at home with crochet thread and craft crystals, but I recommend smaller, lighter craft crystals than the ones I used.
I used craft wood slices to install my curtain hold backs properly. I hand painted the wood slices with dark purple, light purple, light pink, and black paint to match the dark colors of my purple and black curtains with the light colors of my window valances. The wood slices worked like a charm for this DIY project. I was able to screw the wood slices directly into the stud with long Imperial screws and screw the metric wallhanging screws into the wood slices so my curtian holdbacks were nice and sturdy. This is a very practical method for screwing in a screw that doesn't want to screw!
I purchased these pink rose curtain holdbacks online from Amazon. While the roses are adorable and the reviews were decent, I definitely don't recommend buying something like curtain holdbacks online if you live in America because there's a risk you won't be able to use the screws that come with your curtain hold backs, or that you won't be able to screw the metric screws into your wall. But I definitely do recommend making your own DIY curtain ties because that part was fairly easy, and they look great!
