Come organize my fabric stash and scrap fabric stash with me as I set up my new sewing room! I have a ton of different types of fabric from cottons to wovens, taffeta, brocade, velvet, and lace. My scrap stash also needs to be organized into drawers because I can't keep storing my fabric in plastic bags, boxes, and suitcases.
Several boxes of fabric have to be washed before I can sort them and put them away. I sorted my fabric by color and by type so I could wash it more easily. I ended up doing 6 loads of laundry to wash all the fabric I inherited from my Aunt a few years ago, but wasn't able to use yet. These fabrics are very fine, most are delicate fabrics that can't go in the dryer, and had to be laid flat or set out to hang dry. The load of quilting cottons was the easiest fabric to wash because I was able to dry it in the dryer. I even washed some doilies in garment bags.
I ended up sorting out four boxes and two suitcases of fabric and organized them on my new shelves in my sewing room. My huge garbage bag full of scrap fabric ended up being organized very well into a set of stackable drawers. The see-through stackable drawers are perfect for scrap fabric because they make my scraps so much more accessible. It took a while to unpack, wash, organize, and put away all my fabric, but it was well worth it to get my dream sewing room.
I love having my fabric organized on shelves in my sewing room! Being able to look at all my fabric makes my sewing room feel like a fabric store--the best place ever!
